i email HTC to ask if the voice to text feature was disabled on the Sim Free version of the Desire and this is the response i got....
Thank you for your enquiry about voice to text.
Well the device does have voice to search via Google, so it should do. The only thing is you'll probably have to install some apps from market on the Device, hope this helps..

So any one with the desire ATM does the above work? (i.e voice to search) i find the answer vague so i have asked for a yes or no answer to the question i asked. i quoted the desirehtc website where it states this feature will be available.
if anyone else has emailed HTC on this subject i would be interested in the response you got.
UPDATE
HTC have now resopnded with a Simple "NO" you will have to use a 3d party App.
no voice search here.
cos it's using the HTC IME, it is missing the microphone key that you get on the Android keyboard to use the voice to text functions.
whoever answered that at HTC obviously didn't have one to hand to check and was probably looking at the nexus....
Afternoon all,
After enabling the 'Voice to Text' as shown on How To Enable Voice To Text using one of the links on page 2 I have now got Google search by voice working on a T-Mobile Desire.
You don't have to change over to using the android keyboard if you don't want to use the main voice to text functionality, but now pressing and holding the search button brings up a pop-up on screen with 'Speak Now - Google Search' and a microphone symbol.
Seems to work fine to me.
works fine for me too.
Maybe it's coming in another update, this is from the htc website desirehtc dot com
" Android 2.1...
What's that all about then?
Launched in January 2010, and known in the trade as Eclair, this is basically an update to the operating system. In laymans terms, it's a sexier looking interface. But it's not quite that simple.
Now, for example, your Wallpapers can be animated, injecting your screen with a new lease of life. This works particularly well with the AMOLED screen.
Rather excitingly, it brings us into a realm where voice-to-text is a reality in all text fields. Imagine sending texts or emails simply by talking to your phone. Now do it, we're there. "
I'm sorry but voice search has always been there...

Here it is, tried and tested.
1. goto settings
2. goto text to speech and install voice data
3. goto http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UQC37DJC on your desire
5. download it
6. install it (you may get a prompt saying that you need to change your settings to allow it to install, so do so)
7. next in settings again goto language & keyboard
8. tick android keyboard
9. click android keyboard settings
10. make sure voice input is ticked.
11. go into messages and hold down on TAP TO COMPOSE
12. select input method
13. then select android keyboard
14. click the mic and start talking

Cheers mate... great help, 1 more reason 2 love Desire...
Back to my orignal post.....
HTC tell me the voice - search is available by default (i.e not installing any other SW) they say it has to be enabled in settings then it work when using the search key/menu?
any one confirm this?
Actually, I also got a similar answer from HTC. I'm from Singapore though. Thus, most likely it is an unlocked version. My question was:
"Does the HTC Desire support the speech-to-text function out of the box? Does it also support AVI files? Thank You."
This is what i got.
"Thanks for contacting HTC.
For HTC Desire, it does have the function for Speech-to-text, but it doesn't support AVI file.
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
We look forward to be of service to you again."
From this reply, it seems obvious what the answer is. But the truth, from those who already got the phone, are far from it. I had specifically said out of the box. But, as told by owners, you need to download apps and everything for this function. Just FYI, I do not own the Desire...yet XD
HTC says NO! to voice enabled in default.
So that. I'm looking for a program to change my voice in live, during a call.
Is there any??
Thanks!!!

Hi, this is a nice idea
Anyone know?
But I doubt Android allows app to intercept incoming call (hijacking) for security concern.
I might be wrong though ...
Not exactly what you were looking for but Spoofcard does voice changing, as well as spoofing caller ID and recording. They have the SpoofApp in the market. It's a paid service.
spoofcard.com
Thanks!!
Any other idea?

As an amateur terrorist/outlaw i find this a much needed feature which will easy my day to day work...
Somehow I think an app that masks your voice probably wouldn't go down too well with Google haha
i'm sure i've seen apps that record your calls, maybe someone with a decent coding knowledge can use the api for this to alter your voice

I do not think that Google will authorize an application that in most cases will be used to:
1 .- Ask form ransoms in kidnappings.
2 .- Make jokes to the policeemergency numbers
3 .- Make bomb threats by geek terrorists.
thatd be cool if this existed lol
Hello all!
Does anybody knows any way to call records on Gingerbread? On Froyo I used China telephone hack for it. Similar solution on 2.3 is exist? Thanks for any advices!
P.S. I've used search, but not found anything :-( Maybe I searched bad, but English not mother tongue for me, sorry...
Install CM7 RC1.5 and install the zip from this post via Recovery afterwards.
Then use Total Recall or similar app for recording.

Hmmm... I downloaded Total Recall from market, it has only 3 strategies - A, B and C. What does "method 4" mean? I tried all 3 strategies, works only one - automatic records ALL calls. It's very waste for memory...
I found Call Recorder (developer is "ITS On Mobile"). That's soft works almost fine, I can choose, record or not every call, but program requires too many permissions (f.eg. SMS sending or unlimited internet access), it may be dangerous... So, can I any way to limit application rights?
UPD: Problem solved, permissions change - built in function of CianogenMod 7
Its strategy c with total recall. But that would have been really easy to try yourself - faster than posting here.
Thanks to all, especially shorty66! After installation libraries for recording all works fine! Topic can be closed
P.S. A lot of searching gave a result, I found wonderful recorder, named HTC Call Recorder Widget. It's soft can record calls from line and offer to record every call. Little pop-up button appear on phone screen and you can push it in any time. I'll share .apk to community, maybe it'd be useful

Thanks. This works for my HTC Magic running CM7. But, it records only a 15 seconds clip. Is it some kind of trial version or something?
Hi,
I think there is a very useful app needed in all smartphone...and specially in the fantastic galaxy s2: the offline voicecommands.
People, like me, that have not the possibility to get always connected to the net, need the offline voicecommands like the mororola smartphones. We just need a porting of that app as the vivaldi 4season team did, but working for all the roms and in particular that app have to work...
Who is the dev that can do this for the "disconnected" community? He will help the people that need to call someone whilst is driving a car... No accidents trying to do a call whilst driving car, no money spent in a special contract to be always connected.
We need a hero!

Dont we have that already with the Built in Samsung Voice actions powered by Vlingo which also has a drive/car mode
Vlimgo requires Internet and to be honest is not greatest when dialing contacts especially if they are not typical English names.
Just do what I do as soon as I install rom, delete vlingo and put original android voicedialer.apk in system (note: not voice search) app from nexus s gingerbread or cyanogen rom. Works offline and much better for contacts recognition. Responds fine to bluetooth dial as well.

Could you post that apk please?
Here you go!
Remember put this in system/app folder with root explorer (do not install as regular apk) and remember to delete vlingo voice to go apk from there cause it will clash on bluetooth dial.
Istituto tris app multilanguage?
Is this only for dialing or sms too?
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 usando Tapatalk
It's name is voice dialer! Ask me again if this is for dictating sms!
Or are you asking if you can start text message with this?
There's voice actions for that or vlingo or whatever but they all need to be connected to the net.
With this you can basically start any app installed on the phone with command open * (open MESSAGING or open OPERA MOBILE) or dial contacts on the PHONE or command redial.
You can not say 'send text to "contact name"'. If you want deeper than that then use online ones I mentioned.
Iono if it's multilanguage? I why don't you try it then tell us? What I do know is that I have plenty non English contacts and it dials them correctly even though it repeats them weird with English phonetics. It is able to learn as well so if it's confused between 2 contacts, manually selecting correct one, will not prompt again with same pronunciation. I have had few names that I had to gradually train like that going from English phonetics to native tongue pronunciation and now it's perfect.
I save data with titanium so don't have to train it again between flashing.

Calm down. If you insist, so i ask you again: is it for dictating sms?
A forum need people able to talk gently with others and if they can and want, to answer to the question, and not to be arrogant.
If you are nervous go to sleep.
So Dumb
So Dumb to not understand plain English.
Lol! Yeah all we need in forum are lazy people that post request in wrong section and won't do **** for themselves even when the help and explanation is being offered several times, but are easy to offend!
This was a waste of fingers. I'm off to sleep as you suggested and you wait for another soft spoken fellow or a gall.
But I'll throw you another bone. None of the solutions to date offer offline dictation on any smartphone platform and you ponder...

Stupid as usual. Nothing better to expect from you and useless people thinking like you. Enjoy you and your friends with the bones by yourself.
Poor you...find a girl and be less nervous, and maybe a mother so serious you will be polite.

Point being: instead of finding ways of being offended maybe you should have read more carefully and see I and others had tried to help you throughout this topic. You have 4 posts and look what they are.
Anyways ill stop now and leave your thread alone.

Hi guys,
I just saw the video of the SGS III, showing the ability to ask the phone anything by simply double clicking the home-button. Is there any way to integrate a similar app with the One X? So:
- What is the best Siri like app out there?
- How can I map it to pop up when I double tap the home button?
Thanks in advance!
Heard iris is ok aint really a fan of VA but heard it works well
Mod Or Die
I use AIVC and it works well, but sometimes when u got many background sounds it calculate to death.
As far as I know iris does same thing...I've been using for a while but does not understand what we were saying at all the good point of iris if you asked where is the nearest petrol station will shows you in a pop up window via browser...

Yeah - i had two accounts so closed the older one with that video - sorry!
To be honest - its a free app so download it from the store and have a play with it and see what you think.
Its not bad and although not as in depth as Siri - its more customizable and has features Siri doesnt still.
I've started using the ordinary voice search (the one on the end of the google search widget) - its speed is second to none - it doesnt have to think about your question for ages before giving you information either! If your searching the web or asking for the weather in a location then its blisteringly fast.
try the hacked s voice apk. its no way near as good as siri though, nor is its voice recognition as good as apple/googles
For me AIVC is the best one. I mapped longpress home with AIVC (Charmeleon ROM) and because of i buyed AIVC Pro i can make it listen when it starts.
So my own Siri listens to me when i long press home.
