Hi guys,
I just saw the video of the SGS III, showing the ability to ask the phone anything by simply double clicking the home-button. Is there any way to integrate a similar app with the One X? So:
- What is the best Siri like app out there?
- How can I map it to pop up when I double tap the home button?
Thanks in advance!
Heard iris is ok aint really a fan of VA but heard it works well
Mod Or Die
I use AIVC and it works well, but sometimes when u got many background sounds it calculate to death.
As far as I know iris does same thing...I've been using for a while but does not understand what we were saying at all the good point of iris if you asked where is the nearest petrol station will shows you in a pop up window via browser...

Yeah - i had two accounts so closed the older one with that video - sorry!
To be honest - its a free app so download it from the store and have a play with it and see what you think.
Its not bad and although not as in depth as Siri - its more customizable and has features Siri doesnt still.
I've started using the ordinary voice search (the one on the end of the google search widget) - its speed is second to none - it doesnt have to think about your question for ages before giving you information either! If your searching the web or asking for the weather in a location then its blisteringly fast.
try the hacked s voice apk. its no way near as good as siri though, nor is its voice recognition as good as apple/googles
For me AIVC is the best one. I mapped longpress home with AIVC (Charmeleon ROM) and because of i buyed AIVC Pro i can make it listen when it starts.
So my own Siri listens to me when i long press home.

So I thought I'd start a little thread to see what tips & tricks people are discovering about the Desire now that we are getting our hands on them
If you swipe your finger (L to R or R to L) across the middle button then you can scroll through home screens without touching the screen
If you want more options in browser including UAString (Android, Desktop, Iphone etc,) just type in url window "about:debug" (without quotes!) then press enter; it seems nothing happens but if you go into settings all new options are available
I'll be surprised if it hasn't been mentioned before, but a quick way to reboot:
Power button, vol down and press the track pad at the same time.
Download Advanced Task Killer! Applications just stay open once they are activated. I also use the Power Options widget on the main homescreen which is great for quick adjustments to brightness, WiFi and Bluetooth.
I am a new user here so I am not allowed to post outside links yet, but do a google search for "Why You Shouldn’t Be Using a Task Killer with Android" and read the Geek For Me thing about task killers.
anyone here tried to re-arrange the 7 home screens? .. i could swear i saw it in some vid, you put it in "leap" view, and then you hold on of the screens and move it around!!!! ....

"SMS popup" gives you the iPhone like popup whenever you receive an SMS.. Works on lockscreen as well as over any program/app. Unfortunately it doesn't do emails
Alternatively you can change the whole SMS app to chomp or handcent.. Those gives you popups as well.

SMS Popup does not seem to work on my device :-/ I think it might have something to do with Sense UI. Can anyone confirm they got it working on their Desire?
Yup. You can re-arrange the home screens but not by pressing in the big menue but by pressing when your actually on the screens and dragging them accross. Works a charm. Just got mine today and tried it!

Where on the screen(s) are you pressing to do this? The only thing I can manage to do is move individual item (widgets. shortcuts, etc) across different home screens but not the entire screen itself.
Hi!
I'm looking for an application that controls my sgs via voice command.
Now every voice recognising application is failed with my accent, including voice actions, etc.
All I need is an app that records when I say "NEXT" or "BRIGHTNESS 50%", and whenever next time I tell it, it executes the command. Sounds really simple, but would it work?
Thanks for any input, or idea.

Maybe you can do a search for something like Dragon Talk for android. Dragon Talk is originally developped for Windows but I can remember something I read that it should also come available for Android...
Hope this helps...
Thanks mate, but it's basically the same as Vlingo, and these apps struggle with my pronounciation... that's why I need an app where I record my voice first.
Hey Guys,
I wanted to try something. I think everyone of you has his favourite app or apps. They have a really cool feature or they just look really awesome.
So I had the idea that we could make a list with the favourite apps from the SGSII user. I know there are several websites with tests and everything.
But I think that mouth to mouth propaganda works the best. Especially for "secret" tips.
And that's how it works:
1. Check the list in the second post if your apps are already there.
2. If not then post your TWO most favourite apps. Post the link to the appmarket or the XDA thread. So that everyone can find it easily.
Tips:
-You can write a little description if you want but you don't have to.
-It would be very nice if you could write the category in which the app belongs.
-It would also be nice if the link would direct to a trial or a free app so that curios users can try it.
An example how a post could look like can be found in post #3
I hope a lot of people like this idea so that we can collect a good list with good apps.
LIST
Efficiency-tools
Swipepad
Swiftkey X Free
Vlingo
CircleLauncher light
AppWidgetPicker Read the instructions!
Entertainment
DroidTV Primetime
Health & Fitness
My Tracks
Example post
So I will make the start.
My two favourite apps are:
Swipepad
SwipePad is a launcher panel overlay. With a single swipe action, you can launch anything from within any app.
It's a really simple app but it improves the handling a lot.
and the second one
Swiftkey X
It's a smart keyboard which learns how you type. It even learns slang and dialects and predicts it in the right moment. After some days you don't even have to write a sentence the app knows already what you want to say.
The apps are both from the efficiency-tools category.
favorite app: DroidTv Primetime-without a doubt!!
This app is the best! To have a personalDVR(digital video recorder on my phone ) like Tivo to record every new tv show I want for 9 dollars every six months is a dream of mine. I can watch all my favorite shows all the time period!...
It is better than anything for all those wait times when you are stuck on hold, at oil changes, shopping with the wife etc
I'm typing this from my phone, so sorry about the missing links...
My best apps is Googles My Tracks, and Vlingo... they are just great, if,you have use for them!!

I personally hate this app. I wrote the original launcher widget for android (launcher dock) which used this circle format. This app not only uses the exact same format but when I took a look at the code was simply my code deodexed and recompiled. They didn't even bother to remove my freaking comments.
Have tried to get it taken off the market but Google are useless when it comes to this sort of thing.

I understand your anger but it looks like you stopped development so I leave circle launcher on the list. They are still working on it and they added some new functions.
I hope it is okay for you if not just say it and we can have a look for a solution.
I always install AppWidgetPicker first on a fresh ROM. Great if you have apps with multiple widgets. Does not work on stock launcher and needs to be pushed to system/app.

Hi
Does the galaxy havesmart dialing?
It is one of the things i loved about my Sensation. i could start typing a few letters (numbers) and all the coressponding contacts were shown.
from what i can see from all the videos this may not be possible in stock android 4.0?
Can anyone relay my fears
Cant remeber the last i didnt have that feature even going back to my nokia e71.
I invented cyberspace. You're trespassing.
the X10i Sony doesn't have it and i'm worried the nexus doesn't
i use it a lot when using the htc dialer
No idea how to load my google contacts into emulator... if there's an easy way to do that I can try for you.
i have tried it in the emulator.
it will not work under the dialer itself.
however it will work under the search bar.
when you start to type the number under the search, it will appear all the related contacts.
You can always use a 3rd party app such as Dialer One or TouchPal Dialer (free on the market) which has the feature you desire.
Mark.

You can export your contacts from Google contacts as a csv-file. That file can be imported in the app.
Thank you

Android SDK
Takes about 10-15 mins to get up and running purely dependent on connection of course. But emulator takes few mins to boot and is really sluggish. Still no clue how anyone develops on that.
I made myself as a contact..dialer did not show what you asked. But unless I get full contact list in there cant say for sure. But the layout itself doesnt seem appropriate for it.
This is one of my concerns aswell, I love the smart dial feature on the HTC dialer and heavily rely on it. I don't want to have to get an alternate dialer I want a nice clean pure android experience.
It's crazy to me that people still look up names by numbers instead of names.

you can use the search bar to search for numbers. it will appear with the contact that match the numbers.
just like it has already happening in honeycomb table. just that no ones use honeycomb to make phone calls.
It's a change it might not.
I no longer have it on my device after switching over to CM7

Smart Dialling appears so backwards to me. I have internalized only a few phone numbers and that's because it'S always easier and faster to just use the contacts feature instead of "dialling".

It only works from the start of a phone number though.
So if you know the number ends in 5423, if you try searching for that it won't match it.
HTC's dialer will match anywhere in the number.
Balls, much faster to start typing a name on the keypad and results are refined as you go. Every phone for the last 15 years had t9 dialling. So stupid Apple dropped it and Google following along.

Hey all, Since the purcahse of my Infnity Tab, I have been waiting to get an android "phone" to replace my old iphone 3gs. So grabbed the Note II yesterday ! Love it ! So far so good, with the exception of one small issue. S voice fine for what it is, but I watched many videos on Google Voice where it will actually "speak back" (a la Siri or "S" voice). I can not for the life of me get google search to speak an answer back to me.
I have check volume for "media" - I can hear S voice so I should be able to hear Google's voice
I have English (US) selected as language of choice.
I have voice response set to "Always"
What might I be missing. I have searched and watched a few videos, I am stumped.
Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried generic questions like "what's the weather gonna be like today?" and if so, what happens when you ask these questions.

Where do you live? If you purchased your phone outside of the United States that's why it's not working.
I got my NOTE 2 in Canada and had the same problem. Refer to my post for the answer:

I'm kinda confuse here... You do know Google Voice and Google Now are two different products, right?
Google Voice: voice.google.com
Google Now: the voice recognition (assistant) feature introduced on JB, like Siri on steroids...
As for the question... Open Google Search, check on Settings\Voice\Speech Output
Peace!

But no matter what if you want Google NOW to to talkback you have to use the local/language app. Because for some reason none US phones don't allow you to change the phone language to English (US).
