Hey Guys,
I wanted to try something. I think everyone of you has his favourite app or apps. They have a really cool feature or they just look really awesome.
So I had the idea that we could make a list with the favourite apps from the SGSII user. I know there are several websites with tests and everything.
But I think that mouth to mouth propaganda works the best. Especially for "secret" tips.
And that's how it works:
1. Check the list in the second post if your apps are already there.
2. If not then post your TWO most favourite apps. Post the link to the appmarket or the XDA thread. So that everyone can find it easily.
Tips:
-You can write a little description if you want but you don't have to.
-It would be very nice if you could write the category in which the app belongs.
-It would also be nice if the link would direct to a trial or a free app so that curios users can try it.
An example how a post could look like can be found in post #3
I hope a lot of people like this idea so that we can collect a good list with good apps.
LIST
Efficiency-tools
Swipepad
Swiftkey X Free
Vlingo
CircleLauncher light
AppWidgetPicker Read the instructions!
Entertainment
DroidTV Primetime
Health & Fitness
My Tracks
Example post
So I will make the start.
My two favourite apps are:
Swipepad
SwipePad is a launcher panel overlay. With a single swipe action, you can launch anything from within any app.
It's a really simple app but it improves the handling a lot.
and the second one
Swiftkey X
It's a smart keyboard which learns how you type. It even learns slang and dialects and predicts it in the right moment. After some days you don't even have to write a sentence the app knows already what you want to say.
The apps are both from the efficiency-tools category.
favorite app: DroidTv Primetime-without a doubt!!
This app is the best! To have a personalDVR(digital video recorder on my phone ) like Tivo to record every new tv show I want for 9 dollars every six months is a dream of mine. I can watch all my favorite shows all the time period!...
It is better than anything for all those wait times when you are stuck on hold, at oil changes, shopping with the wife etc
I'm typing this from my phone, so sorry about the missing links...
My best apps is Googles My Tracks, and Vlingo... they are just great, if,you have use for them!!

No problem. Vlingo looks quite interesting. But in which way is it different from the normal Google Voice?
for the efficiency circle launcher is a nice app as well

I personally hate this app. I wrote the original launcher widget for android (launcher dock) which used this circle format. This app not only uses the exact same format but when I took a look at the code was simply my code deodexed and recompiled. They didn't even bother to remove my freaking comments.
Have tried to get it taken off the market but Google are useless when it comes to this sort of thing.

I understand your anger but it looks like you stopped development so I leave circle launcher on the list. They are still working on it and they added some new functions.
I hope it is okay for you if not just say it and we can have a look for a solution.
I always install AppWidgetPicker first on a fresh ROM. Great if you have apps with multiple widgets. Does not work on stock launcher and needs to be pushed to system/app.

I know its probably a sin to talk about this, however... Has anyone come up with a bootable theme (meaning not with a 3rd party program ie: ahome, open home etc.)
I LOVE LOVE androids functionality and the Cyanogenmod rom layout, however I love the layout and design of the iPhones face.
Is anyone interested or even thinking about wanting to do something like this? If not i understand (as I said its probably a sin to talk about let alone do)
I just think it would be the best of both worlds... I love androids layout design too, dont get me wrong, just a simple question... (please don't flame)
I'm actually in the process of learning to do themes and what not so i'm hoping if this hasn't been done yet, to put out the first and it will obviously be on the "LOVE IT" / "HATE IT" scale where it will be a hit or miss.
anyways thanks for reading and again (don't flame me, this was a question for those who were thinking it and didn't necisarily say it due to people flaming over it )

I think one of the best ways to achieve the iphone look you're going for without having to go thru the trouble of making a whole new theme is just installing better cut, and then just bring your icons to the home screen and using one of the icon packs, such as tenious icon pack, to give that iphone look. Hope that helps. Just a suggestion

Hey, thanks for your input (and not flaming )
That's a great idea and i've seen it done, however putting all those programs onto the phone really lags the g1 down...unfortunatly Cyan's rom is fast but start packing on the programs and it boggs a great rom down lol.
What i'm trying to accomplish is the entire "feel" if you will of the iPhone;
When you click on "Phone" you will see Favorites, Contacts, Dialer, and Voicemail all at the bottom like the iphone,
also when you click on lets say Alarm clock, you will see the layout of the iphones alarm clock setup.
also the browser setup... androids browser is great functionally however, the layout of the iPhones is much cleaner.
So hopefully if it CAN be accomplished I would like to change all of these things to fit the android with the iphone "feel" almost as if you were using the actual phone itself with a few android goodies

No nothing out there right now with that much customized. I dont think some of the things you mentioned are easy at all to pull off, but Id have to assume if anyone could, it would be the devs here at XDA.
It would be much more than just a theme. All of the things you mentioned would require replacement apps.

As a theme maker I can tell you that what you're talking about (replicating phone/browser/alarm clock layouts) is not an easy task without having to edit the actual code of the apps. This is more of a developer territory, you'd be recreating a new app basically. So...no on what you want to do. You can however use one of many iphone skins available on home replacement apps out there.
UPDATE: It's now out in the Marketplace and totally rocks.
Read my post here or go straight to the Marketplace and download it.
Carbon for Windows Phone is an upcoming Twitter client for Windows Phone. It supports multiple twitter handles, and really embraced the Metro design language when designing the application.
Check out some pictures of the app at this link:
http://www.gowindowsgo.com/2011/11/...tter-app-for-windows-phone-you-cant-have-yet/
The dev is looking for people with developer unlocked devices to test the application! All you need to do is email saleh at dotsandlines.com with you twitter handle to get on the list. Once he fills up all 50 spots he'll push out the beta invite!
Support him and give great feedback!
Sam
Annnnd just as I post this I get the XAP to test it, I'll post some pictures once I get home and load it up and play around with it.
Email Sent!! Looking to test out the app.
I've been using it since its first closed alpha. And even though it didn't sport all the features it offers now, it was still better than everything else available back then. In the meantime another great client has been published, that's also feature rich and fast: Mehdoh. But I for one still like CarbonWP better. But I think that's just a matter of personal taste.
Been using it since few hours. Overall I do like it primarily for one main reason, it makes use of more Panorama View than taps. Thats a big advantage.
Will be posting video review tomorrow.
Using it too, also still the first alpha, very nice client, I just miss smaller fonts

I haven't pinned anything besides the app itself, so I don't know about other CarbonWP tiles not updating. The main app updates just fine though. Did you activate it in the app settings? If so, go to the OS settings, swipe left and check if CarbonWP is enabled in the background processes.

I am having a few issues with tiles updating. I'll make the dev aware of any problems we run into on here. Also be sure to leave him good feedback so he can improve the app. With better font sizes on the horizon this app is shaping up to be really good!

Hi guys,
I just saw the video of the SGS III, showing the ability to ask the phone anything by simply double clicking the home-button. Is there any way to integrate a similar app with the One X? So:
- What is the best Siri like app out there?
- How can I map it to pop up when I double tap the home button?
Thanks in advance!
Heard iris is ok aint really a fan of VA but heard it works well
Mod Or Die
I use AIVC and it works well, but sometimes when u got many background sounds it calculate to death.
As far as I know iris does same thing...I've been using for a while but does not understand what we were saying at all the good point of iris if you asked where is the nearest petrol station will shows you in a pop up window via browser...

Yeah - i had two accounts so closed the older one with that video - sorry!
To be honest - its a free app so download it from the store and have a play with it and see what you think.
Its not bad and although not as in depth as Siri - its more customizable and has features Siri doesnt still.
I've started using the ordinary voice search (the one on the end of the google search widget) - its speed is second to none - it doesnt have to think about your question for ages before giving you information either! If your searching the web or asking for the weather in a location then its blisteringly fast.
try the hacked s voice apk. its no way near as good as siri though, nor is its voice recognition as good as apple/googles
For me AIVC is the best one. I mapped longpress home with AIVC (Charmeleon ROM) and because of i buyed AIVC Pro i can make it listen when it starts.
So my own Siri listens to me when i long press home.
:good:Hi
My first post here and obviously blatant self promotion so I expect to be flamed but I wanted to gauge interest.
Given the lack of Facebook Home support for the Nexus and the fact I didn't like the way it took over my whole phone I've been writing this live wallpaper that does coverflow type stuff with different social networks.
At some point I'd like to make lots of money from it (obviously) but I've set up a free version on the market for Tumblr and could do one for Instagram if there was enough interest and keep the one that does everything paid for.
I can't attach anything so all I can do is ask for people to search for "SocialWallpaper Tumblr" on the market and hope you can find it!
I'm really interested in hearing what people think so here are some screenshots, a link and the offer to flame on!

This looks very promising! Would love something like this for instagram though, don't use Tumblr at all to be honest. Hope you can make a few bucks from the paid version. Good luck! (I think you are allowed to link to the app itself on the Play Store)

Hi testers,
I've developed the app Timesheet. It's an app for keeping track of your work hours for payroll reporting, billing etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217159
I think, compared to the competitors, it got the most complete feature set. But i'am only getting 60-100 downloads a day, and currently the retention rate is a dismal 25%. Why?
The few ratings the app got is good (4.3), but i need critical feedback!
Why do downloaders uninstall the app?
Is the app to complicated?
Is the app poorly designed?
Is the app missing some key feature?
Is the app buggy?
Is it the ads?
Is is the lack of translations?
What is it!?
Please download, it's free, and give it a try. Then tell me whats wrong, the cold truth!

Hey! I saw your app and was really eager to test it out. However, I decided not to because I saw it required a lot of permissions; most of these permissions I did not feel comfortable giving the app. I was planning on using this to audit my payroll for myself.
I think having too many sensitive permissions is not good for this type of app in my opinion. Things like reading my personal information, my accounts, to me seems a bit much for something I was just going to use to audit my payroll.
I hope this helps! Good luck And I look forward to see how this project progresses.

I've suspected potential user might see this as an issue. I think i'll move some features to optional plug-ins to reduce the permissions requirements, like READ_CALL_LOG (used by phone tasks) and MANAGE_ACCOUNTS/AUTHENTICATE_ACCOUNTS (used by ftp client).

Sweet alright thanks for the tip. Ive never used illustrator im a Photoshop guy but ill give it a try. Also i tried the app and i had a few issues getting around the UI i got a bit lost but i looks stable and also idk why but maybe just integrate the 3 icons you have installed into one that way it doesnt clutter the homescreen, i know some users dont like having 3 icons for one app. Maybe include a side bar sorta like G+ does.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've heard others getting lost . The problem is that the app is a bit complicated. The view and data structure is both hierarchical (Main > Projects > Tasks > Expenses/Breaks) and wide at each level (Details, Tasks/Breaks, Expenses, Files). I've looked at the side drawer but it doesn't really fit the hierarchy part.
The app actually had three seperate launcher icons in earlier versions. Now it just adds the two additional home screen shortcuts. But even these will be removed in the next version.

I love the set up and the simplicity, one thing I think you could add to make it better is a start date on the project page, I found it confusing to backdate my project until I went on the calander and added it that way. Also as a former door-to-door salesman and now a subcontractor for construction one other thing I found frustrating is there iz no pay by the week, by the sale or by the job option sometimes I work odd hours and get payed compensation, sometimes I work odd hours and get payed by the job, and sometimes I work odd hours and get payed by the week so if you could add that it would become the perfect app for me

Timesheet is should really be used to punch in every time you begin work. That's why the start date is set to today when creating a new task. But as you found out, the History tab is the quickest way to add past time entries.
Change the timespan in the Overview/Details tab to see income, overtime and expenses per day, week, month, etc..

Timesheet isn't intended to be used as a calendar to register future work. But that sounds like an interesing feature we could incorporate better support for.

My first impression is that the app is a little daunting... but then I have never looked at a timesheet app before!
If you are you using Androids analytics you can get a good understanding of the areas people use the most. This is a good way to analyse your app, and make decisions in terms of UI.

Yeah, it’s a bit over engineered. But with so much features it’s hard to keep it simple.
Since i posted this thead, we’ve added alot of features and made the UI a bit more flashy, and it helped alot. The app now got 300+ downloads a day with a retention rate around 30%. It’s top 5 of it’s kind so i think the app has reached it’s peek.
Hi there. I tried your app months ago when I was searching for... well a "timesheet" app. I was one of those who uninstalled your app. One of the common problems here in our small company was having to fill up these excel sheets. I thought your app could help me track my work hours, just to find out it was a bit complicated than what I was expecting. I only wanted to track my work hours. Basically I just wanna know how many hours I spent in a project for that day. In your app I needed to input my hours first before actually starting with my task. I know this is not the proper way to handle projects and all, but there are times when we need to insert some side jobs in between projects. So there you go.

You don't have to input the hours before you've done the task! You just begin the task and then later end it.

Voice commands, anyone?!
Any Timesheet users here who downloaded the latest version 1.2.7?
If so have anyone tried the voice commands?
Sufficient testing was impossible since the emulator doesn't have any Speech Recognition engine!
