So lets say my friend broke his screen a couple months ago. he went ahead and ordered the parts himself and fixed it and everything was working fine. Now lets say today his touchscreen is all wonky, messed up, unable to be fixed, blah blah. Lets say he called verizon and he am getting another one shipped to him tomorrow because it is still *under warranty*. What would be the best way, hypothetically if someone was to do so, take the void sticker off of the screw in the phone.
Doesn't fixing the screen yourself void your warranty in the first place?

same as how rooting voids your warranty... people unroot, return to stock, and no one knows...
well I've never taken a phone apart and tried to return it but I've done plenty of UNmodding in order to get phones 'returnable'. I thought they could always tell if it's been opened up before.

That's what the void sticker over the screw is for, if it is punctured or removed the warranty is void. I said he should just using a hair dryer and heating up the sticker until it can be peeled off carefully. Just wanted to get input from other people because I'm sure others have done the same.
Heat it up and use a needle to pick and peel it off carefully

I've never had trouble removing the tamper sticker on the screw without hurting it. I usually just use the pointy tip of an X-acto knife. A needle would probably work too.

Anyone have an idea how much it might cost me to replace the entire casing of my desire without voiding the warranty?
I dropped my poor baby and scratched and dented the f*** out of it yesterday and I can't keep it the way it is, it looks awful.
The whole left side is dented in, chunks missing out of the corners and the plastic bits.
Kind of annoying too because I had just that second taken it out of its case, my girlfriend dropped her Vivaz and I tried to save it and ended up dropping my Desire.
ok, sorry but there is no way of replacing the housing without voiding your warrenty. To change the housing, you need to remove the intestine, but for that you need to unscrew some screws that are under "VOID" stickers, if you do remove the stickers, you warrenty is gone..
anyways, if you do decide to do it, here's a guide
http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-tear-down
go donw to taking out the intestine, and the put it all into the new housing. Also, just the housing itself is like $70 (£50?), and the tools another $3 (£5)..
hope this helps! good Luck!
My main question is, would HTC do it for me so I can keep warranty but how much would it cost?
Surely my warranty is void already since it has obviously been dropped?

No, your warranty is still in tact.
HTC will do it fro you, but expect to pay a lot more than 70 Pounds.

Well I'm on a 2 year contract so I'd like to keep my warranty, but I don't want to pay close to the value of the phone, otherwise I would just buy another and keep this one as a spare.
Then get a quote from HTC. If it is too much - Then, live with it scratched/ dented.

I found a temp solution, I just ordered a hard case off ebay. SHould have done that before I scratched it really, but It'll do for now until I get a quote from HTC or I get a new phone.
I was going to start the warranty process for my Galaxy S III today with AT&T. Upon inspecting the phone (after removing it from my PureGear DualTek case) I noticed a scratch on top of the phone near the top microphone. The scratch appears to be pretty deep. I am wondering what everybody's opinion is on this and whether or not you all think it is enough to void my warranty. If more or, clearer pictures are requested I can certainly take them. My camera which is a 14MP Sony CyberShot, had a lot of difficulty focusing on the phone so any advice on taking a picture of the scratch would be taken.
Side note: I generally have the phone in the case. I do not believe I have dropped it without the case on it. I am not sure if it was caused by the DualTek case, however, the case is pretty hard to remove and the scratch is angled in the direction that I slide the phone out of the case. I remove the phone from the case once in a while to change batteries because I am not always near a charger.
I highly doubt this would be enough reason to void your warranty.
What are you going to return the phone for?

My headphone jack is damaged. I can not hear sound out of the left side of any set of headphones I use. I ran OTA updater, tried factory reset, and PowerAmp / Google Play Music and nothing.
i'd ship it back and warrenty it , only a scratch , it's cosmetic :")
Can I directly contact Samsung support? Or does AT&T handle all warrenty claims for phone bought from them?

U can go directly to att.
If it's bought withing 30 days any att store will provide warranty.
If it's over 30 days u have to go to att device support Centre. I can even call them or chat with them. But I will say go there personally if one is near by you so u can replace it quickly if they have it in stock.
I got mine replaced in 30 mins from device support Centre.

I exchanged mine through warranty with a scratch like that about 3 weeks ago. The issue with mine was the it stopped reading my SIM card. When the rep asked if there was any domestic damage, I mentioned the scratch and he (the rep) said that was fine. As long as the screen was great ..I'd be ok.

Hey guys, my camera seems to have a random "blob" in the preview window as well as after the image is taken. I personally think its a spec of dust.. But i went to T-Mobile and they are warrantying it out.. I kinda dont wanna warranty it out as i get a stupid refurb device.. When mine is BRAND new and flawless. Screen protector ALL the time, otterbox case ALL the time.. Plus in my past, i never had luck with refurb devices..
My question is this, since i have the know how to take apart the device and "clean" the actual camera iris, i am wondering if samsung would be able to tell if the device has been taken apart just incase a bigger issue comes down the line where it will cost me too much to fix and warranty will cover it. I do have all the proper tools to dissassemble the device without leaving pry marks or screw marks. Thanks guys!

they usually figure it out from the fairy dust that's left behind.
but seriously, how would they be able to find out it was taken apart until they have taken it apart themselves? will they leave a sock on the doorknob? you know how to take the device apart, shouldn't you know if there is a way? you are probably one out of 10,000 people that will read this that knows how or will take the time to actually "clean" the iris. if you know how to do THAT (?) you are better off doing any repairs yourself before bothering with warranty and getting a refurb. just my two cents

Thats what i thought.. And from my experience in my other devices (HD2, Touch Pro 2, Galaxy S2) i have seen screws that were covered by "Void" stickers where once you remove the "void" sticker it has "void" written where the sticker used to be.. Meaning well you guessed it, warranty now void.
I do enjoy warranty because i used to not have to pay a single cent for it, well now T-Mobile wants 20 bucks for shipping handling -.- (Seriously Tmo?) But somethings i do not enjoy taking apart.. Like say i dont know the EXACT issue, i would rather just get a refurb.. But i have the choice once the refurb gets here, i have seven days to send one of them back. If i do a once over of the device and figure its in worse condition than my current one, i'll fix the current one. Again im just hoping its as simple as dust on the iris..
Thanks for your reply though!!
I bought a 2nd hand One X yesterday, it came with the original receipt.
Today the phone became unusable. Content is rolling over the entire screen vertically, resulting a flickering.
Thinking it could be a mechanical issue, I opened the phone and manipulated the flat cable to the screen a bit to check if it could be caused by a bad connection. No effect.
On top of that, I saw a cracked void sticker on one of the screws, which brings me to the following questions:
If a pristine phone is returned for repair, and the repair technician needs to break the sticker, do they replace it with a new one? Could it be that the phone was officially repaired?
How many stickers should be normally in place, is it just the one on the top screw?
Any help is appreciated!
This should probably be moved to the Q/A section.
if you have warranty you should allways use it

Nope not always, because i sent my earlier hd2 in for repair and the technician forgot to put new stickers on the screws

Key word forgot , but normally they DON'T FORGET
That makes sense, and answers my first question. Unfortunately, it also means I can better avoid returning the phone for service in this state.
How about the second question; does anybody know how many, and where those stickers are supposed to be in the HOX? I've seen a ton of disassembly photos and videos, but nothing that clearly shows those tiny stickers. The punctured one I have is black 2mm, and on a screw above the camera. Are there supposed to be more?
Hello,
I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S 4 directly of the T-Mobile web site within a week after it came out this year. I have since rooted it and put a custom rom on it. Now I use it on Red Pocket Mobile.
Today I was carrying a water bottle that had a little hole in the bottom so it was dripping water on my phone which was in my pocket. I realized the water was leaking and pulled the phone out and of course it was wet. I went to turn the screen on and I saw the screen fizzle out.
I am wondering if the screen is fried. It appears to start up. I can hear the usually noise as if it was starting up after putting in a battery and when I push the power key the lights below light up indicating a reaction. However the display never turns on.
I suspect this phone is still under warranty? Will T-Mobile replace it even if I do not have current service with them?
Do I have to send it in or just take it to a store and get a replacement? Does someone have the link to a forum that explains how to return it to stock and unroot?
Any suggestions? I need this phone! ASAP
Here's how to unroot:

For future refference the last thing you do after getitng a phone wet is try to test it. Always pullt eh battery IMMEDIATELY and put it in a bowl of rice for 24-48 hours. The rice will absorb the moisture to help dry it.
By turning it own you fried the circuits that were wet beyond repair.
You can still put it in the rice bowl for a day and see if maybe by some miricle it's not really fried though. Also try sitting teh rice bowl near a fan or a vent. Anythign to keep it extra dry.
They will check the "water damage indicator" if there's any sign of water damage it will not be warranty.
If you have insurance that's a different story.

If your no longer a tmobile customer as you mentiomed you were not. I don't believe they will replace the device. Sorry but you likely HAVE to be a customer to get them to help you...if your no longer a customer I do believe your on your own. Sorry..

I missed the part where he's not on T-mobile. Still if it's water damage warranty is void.
Well you c an go through samsung for warranty issues right? Or does it have to be the carrier? Also I would let it sit in rice for a few days. You want to make sure its completely dry before trying to turn it on. If you're up to it take the phone apart and use a hair dryer.

I wouldn't use a hair dryer as you can ruin delicate parts with the heat. I would try the rice again. First thing that's checked under any warranted situation is the sensors for water damage. If they are pink then usually your out of luck so sorry. However you might check with your local cell phone repair service and they might be able to help get it running again. Its worth a shot. Best wishes.

One could go through Samsung but with water damage it doesn't matter if it's Samsung or T-mobile. I highly doubt anyone would warranty water damage.
Haven't had to warranty a Samsung yet (knocking on wood) but with a few other companies, they all go through the same process before RMA. One of the very 1st question ask is for you to check the water damage indicator. With Apple when you go to the Smart Bar or whatever it's call, the first thing they check is for water damage before they even proceed. BTW, where is the water damage indicator on our GS4?
Your phone is likely under warranty with Samsung but since it has water damage I believe Samsung would consider it physical damage therefore not covered by warranty. Also since you don't have service with TMo they will basically tell you to piss off.
The phone might have value as a parts phone on eBay.
Be warned though. No matter how well you describe it as broken and for parts only if an idiot who doesn't read buys it and complains it doesn't work eBay will take your money back and refund it to the seller.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
I think your Sol bro. I had water damage to my s4 w/o T-Mobile insurance and I'm a customer. They said the only option was to buy another one at full price. I was only lucky I had a third party insurance that covered it.
