[Q] Oxygen 2.0: No Youtube? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't seem to find YouTube in the market and manually installing also failed.
Any solutions? Am I the only one?

Never mind. Got it installed now using the YouTube.apk from Defrost 6.1.
If anyone has the same problem, I'll gladly upload it.

Since you're rooted, just get Market enabler, set it to T-mobile US and install whatever you want.

Thanks, that worked, I've downloaded it from the market again.
Do you know why I have to use Market Enabler now?
I used to find it in the market without doing anything else.

No idea, maybe they've pulled it for your country. Im using Market Enabler since august 2010, so I usually don't even know, whats available locally or not. If its out in US, I can have it :]

Youtube works.

[Q] Adobe Flash

Can someone explain me Flash on this phone? It was my understanding that it came with Flash 10.1 preloaded and I can certainly view and interact with flash sites but, when I go in the market, Flash 10.1 does not show up as "Installed" but shows up as "Free". Do I need to install it from the market or will it update on it's own?
Also, wasn't there a modded version that enabled us to watch movies at hulu.com? I'll keep searching but I would really appreciate if someone could point me to such version. I'll post it here if I find it before I get a response.
Thanks in advance!
is this what your looking for?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688054
though you have to change the useragent to desktop in order to get it to work.
I would like to say that yes, this is what I'm looking for, however, I couldn't get it to install. May need root for it to work. Thanks for digging this out though!

Yes I would install the one on Android Market. Flash is pre-installed. But I had trouble using some flash sites with the pre-installed version. Wasn't able to watch videos on crunchyroll.com. After I installed the Flash from Android Market, I was able to watch them.

Updating Hosts file

Complete android newie, please be gentle - had my Desire less than a week.
Been trying to update my hosts file with a custom one.
Tried using some info I found on this site and couldn't get it to work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=680579
Root Explorer also fails. Reports not enough space.
Device is rooted, running Oxygen custom rom.
Just wondering if updating it from an update.zip would work?
I am assuming the rooting worked fine - I was able to access the /system/etc folder and take a backup of my old hosts file, just doesn't want to play ball the other way around. Yes I did change from R/O to R/W.
Anyone got any other ideas - I see there are several posts saying they can't update theirs on the desire.
I take it you're rooted? Just get AdFree off the Market and use that, works fine

friend at work used that - said it wasnt on the market anymore?
I've had about 4 updates to my version since getting it, just search 'adfree' on the Market
Yes it's rooted.
Tried adfree but I read that the hosts file was very outdated and that a member on here has updated it. I have the updated hosts file, just can't replace the one on the device.
You don't need to, it uses the downloaded ones

[Q] How to install Apps not designated for your country

Hi there,
no and then I notice, that there are Apps out there in the Market which might be interesting and are only available in the US but not for people living in other countries (in my case it's germany). My question is: is there any possibility to get access to this Apps without changing the product code, as this would lead to a full factory reset each time the product code is changed. I tried to find websites which provide the physical .apks for download and subsequent installation as a third party app, but with no luck for the apps i am interested in.
Thanks in advance informations that might help!
No one? I too am seeking a solution. Market Enabler didn't work for me.
Try this:

Thanks for the link miro666. Unfortunately my phone is not rooted till know, but I will do that this evening and directly install this app. Following the link and searching on the net I found no information, wether MarketAccess could be theoretically dangerous in terms of messing up the phone/IMEI or not. Do you know anything?

No worries. I've been using Market Access with no problems at all since I got my first Android phone (a little over a year ago) and realized paid apps were not yet available to my country (Philippines). I've kept the apk handy in my phone ever since so I can always have it with me even after flashing ROMs constantly.
All it does is spoof your sim card temporarily since that's what defines your locale for the Android Market. You can easily restore the old number through the app or just reboot. It doesn't mess with imei's or anything like that.
You might however have trouble with your apn settings (which is understandable since apn stuff are linked to your sim) if you use market access before connecting to 3g or whatever if that's what you use. So just connect first, then use market access.
phone is rooted (CF-root), MarketAccess is installed and it works perfectly for me
Me a glad for you horst_o....And maybe Market Enabler wasnt work by you, because your device was unrooted. Try now, after rooting with this first apk.
Regards
it doesn'tw ork for me with galaxy tab 10.1... and rotted and marekt enabler

[Q] Thinking of trying new ROMs

As the Title says, I am thinking of trying new ROMS for my phone. I am posting this in the T-Mobile Q & A because...well...I have a T-Mobile phone and I am not sure if other manufacturers have their file systems the same as T-Mobiles.
Anyway before I go ROM happy so-to-speak...I am just wondering a few things;
STATEMENT: My phone is unlocked (I called TMo and got the code from them)
QUESTION: will my phone retain it's unlocked status?
STATEMENT: My phone is rooted
QUESTION: Will my phone retain it's Root Status?
ASSUMPTION: Yes so long as the ROM I flash too has SU.
STATEMENT: I purchased apps from the Market such as Titanium Backup Pro, Super User Elite, Root Explorer, ect...
QUESTION: Will these be "Carried over" to the new ROM and still be installed or would I have to re-install them?
QUESTION: Are all the apps from the market compatible with all the roms out there? (For example: ES File Explorer, or games that use the accelerometer, or Market Enabler as I am in afghanistan right now as a civilian contractor) and if not, how can I tell if an app is compatible with a certain ROM?
If I could get answers to these questions before I go and flash a new ROM (Especially the Unlocked Phone question) that would be great.

I apologize as I do not know this. Maybe try to find someone in here that is using this phone on ATT. As an assumption I do not think flashing a custom rom will overwrite your unlocking.

Assumption Correct. ANY custom ROM will have root.

YES, any app you have purchased in the market will carry on to any ROM or phone you use so long as your sign in with the google account you used to purchase the app. Well, as long as it's a compatible app with that phone.

Any app that you are currently using will be compatible with any TouchWiz ROM. There is, however, a couple AOSP/CM7 ROM's out there and you could, not probably, but could run into compatibility issues.
All of your paid apps are liked to your Google sign in and account. So as soon as you reload on your new rom you can redownload them whenever. It will usually give you an option in the first startup to keep it linked and autobackup.
Most roms (if not all) have root. So You should be autorooted. As far as unlocking I am not sure, but if not couldn't you just unlock it again using the code they gave you?

You will not lose the SIM unlock when you flash a new ROM. What I did find though, was that I was unable to unlock the phone while running CM7, I had to flash back to a stock-based ROM.

Well before I flashed to Juggernaut I backed up my APKs and of course had to reinstall them. Redownloading them from the market was a last resort as our internet speeds out here in afghanistan would of meant it would of taken HOURS to download.

Any temp unroot for 4.4? like voodoo ota rootkeeper?

I used Voodoo OTA a few times on 4.2 but evidently it no longer works on 4.3/4.4.
Did some searches and couldn't find anything so figured i'd ask and see if anyone knows of a way, either through a on device app, toolkit, or anything to do a temp unroot.
It's not something i need often, but flixster and all my ultraviolet copies won't play if rooted.
Did you find anything useful ?

If you have the xposed framework installed you can use this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2574647
It has been reported working with flixster.
I guess an alternative could be to use multirom, and just keep an unrooted ROM in it, then you can just reboot into the unrooted ROM when necessary. That seems kind excessive tho lol.
Good luck, I hate that some developers Intentionality make there apps incompatible with rooted devices.
