Can someone explain me Flash on this phone? It was my understanding that it came with Flash 10.1 preloaded and I can certainly view and interact with flash sites but, when I go in the market, Flash 10.1 does not show up as "Installed" but shows up as "Free". Do I need to install it from the market or will it update on it's own?
Also, wasn't there a modded version that enabled us to watch movies at hulu.com? I'll keep searching but I would really appreciate if someone could point me to such version. I'll post it here if I find it before I get a response.
Thanks in advance!
is this what your looking for?

though you have to change the useragent to desktop in order to get it to work.
I would like to say that yes, this is what I'm looking for, however, I couldn't get it to install. May need root for it to work. Thanks for digging this out though!

Yes I would install the one on Android Market. Flash is pre-installed. But I had trouble using some flash sites with the pre-installed version. Wasn't able to watch videos on crunchyroll.com. After I installed the Flash from Android Market, I was able to watch them.

Here's a basic stock rom in case you need it sometime
the only modifications made are the su and flash_image binaries are included and ro.secure has been turned to 0 so you can adb remount.
How to flash download the rom from here
Place rom on sdcard
wipe data and all else
then flash rom
reboot and do what you need to do
Cool, you never know when you might need this.
Thank you! Appreciated.

How is this comparable to the rom listed here?

I want to have a known working recovery before I make any more changes to my phone. I am not exactly a newbie to this stuff (I have a Pandigital Novel that has been rooted and hacked into a nice tablet) but this is taking things to a whole new level for me and I need my phone. So I'm a bit nervous.
Of course I really wish I'd asked around some before I got to work on removing some of the stuff on it already (mostly known junkware from Virgin Mobile and stupid stuff like weblinks pretending to be native apps) after rooting it with superoneclick and installing root explorer. I need to know if your rom or the one I linked to will be able to allow me to roll back to a default installation that I can revert to if there are any issues down the road. Can you help me?
I apologize if this isn't the right place for this question. Thank you for the many mods I have seen you do already. I look forward to trying them once I have a fallback plan.

I'm not actually sure what your talking about but I've posted this on three different sites so far. I do that for the guys that don't go to other forums. There probably isn't any difference in the roms.

I'm talking about the one by takehull posted on sdx-developers here.
Yours is not exactly stock since you added su and flash_image binaries--or does that really not matter?

I'm not sure exactly how his is different since I didn't build it. I'm gonna guess and say his probably doesn't have the binaries in it, I'm not sure exactly how his is different since I didn't build it. I'm gonna guess and say that his doesn't have the binaries in it. I don't know. Honestly the only way to know for sure that it's stock rom is to get someone that hasn't rooted yet flash the recovery and get a backup of system. I've been waiting for someone like that to come along but ... It hasn't happened yet.
I won't tell you which forums to watch but I'm partial to xda cuz I been on here since my first android phone and it doesn't have those flash ads that pop up cover your entire screen until you click the x.

My only excuse is that it was late when I found the thread and I wasn't reading clearly. Going by that statement his rom and your rom basically seem to be the same things.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't rooting actually a requirement of obtaining the backup? Or did I misread the instructions somewhere? It'd be nice if someone at Virgin Mobile were to leak the complete rom somewhere so people had a fall back option besides trying to return the phone as bricked. (If that's even possible?)

Sounds like a good reason to pick a forum. Not sure if I'm a member of any places that do that since I run with adblock and noscript enabled most of the time.
Any chance you could link me to written instructions on how to flash the rom you have here? I know you have video tutorials but those are harder to follow for me because I am hard of hearing. Music I can do because it is "beautiful noise" and I can usually find some lyrics to get the words of. Your video HOWTOs are not good for me because I have to strain to hear what is being said.
Thanks again for your time and patience in replying to me.

Thanks. Dude above me, there is a rom flashing tutorial at prepaidandroids.net. We will help you out there. Its a site that specializes in on the Optimus v itself.

Thanks for posting this. It just came in handy when I was changing my virgin phone number. Part of the process is dialing ##841446# to bring up the activation menu, but the ## prefix on CM7 does not work, apparently only a stock ROM can do that.
Any way to put it on a phone friendly site? No matter what browser I use on my phone it will not download from google docs.

THANKS, this worked perfectly.
It's pretty much as described, a stock Opt V rom, with Super User already set up and installed.
Titanium worked on it no problem as well.
thanks a ton man! i needed to flash back to stock to get my 3G working again. if you flash a custom rom while youre between payments, you know, during down time, you may need to flash back to stock and run the activation app next time you put service on your phone.
worked like a charm. i thought my 3G was broken. im doing a happy dance now!
Anyway I can get a link to the stock rom with all the bloatware removed but not rooted?

Hi all, I'm new to this phone, and new to Android in general. I've read up on rooting, but I'm still not clear on a couple of things:
1) Does flashing a new kernel like zedomax get rid of all the apps that are on there just to get root? I like quite a few of the apps that came from Sprint/Samsung, like Vlingo and all of the google apps, so I don't want to lose them.
2) In the CWM thread, it mentions that after loading CWM you can get root by loading a file linked in that thread. Does this mean that the phone is essentially the stock phone, with the exception of root and CWM as the recovery program? Is the stock ROM still on there until I choose to install other ROMs?
The only thing I'm really interested in for getting root is to run the Cisco VPN client from the app store. I don't mind tinkering around with new ROMs, but I don't want to lose any functionality or have a flakey phone where sometimes the radios don't work properly.
Thanks for the help.

Flashing a new kernel to get root access won't delete any data. About the only visible change is you will have an app called superuser. All data will remain unchanged. The best way to get root access is through ODIN, there are many tutorials on how to do this if you are unsure.
For your second question, unless you install a new rom, you will be left with the stock rom after gaining root access. You will also have cwm for recovery and superuser to give certain apps root access. Hope this helps, let me know.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I'll give it a try tonight and let you know how it goes.
Just so I'm clear, getting root access through ODIN, you're referring to downloading one of the zedomax kernels from part 4 here that roots the phone?:

The stock kernel listed there doesn't look like it has root.

Hi guys. I have just gotten this headphone but I can't install android app because it says it is not compatible with my phone. I have sent an e-mail to Jays and they said, because of the Samsung and Sprint restriction these kind of apps cannot be installed Galaxy S Epic Touch 4G. They recommend to root and install new rom.
My question is, is there any way to install this app to my phone without root and without installing new rom?
Thank you.

edit. im rooted so im not sure if it will work. just extract the .apk from the rar and put it on your sdcard and install from there. might work. let me know if it does.
there are great guides and videos here to help you root and pick a great rom if you want to. (i would suggest it because my favorite feature is being able to long-press the volume buttons while the phone is asleep to skip to the next/previous track) i use the Blazer ROM.
second edit: ugh, it might not work unless you are rooted because you may have to flash the 'Headset Fix ZIP' first. sorry bout that. i have totally different headphones with three buttons and this app AND the 'Fix' made my buttons work with my audio.
QbKing77 has posted great videos on how to root and rom in here and on youtube. i would do some researching.. i can never go back to an unrooted phone. there is just more freedom to do what you want with a rooted device.

you can update the profile and prl but i dont think firmware could be updated. if it is, you may lose root with their update so i would just stick with the rom specific update. the latest ROMs are based on el29 firmware which is sprints latest anyway and their next update will be 4.0 ice cream sandwich which the devs are already working on. plus the updates made by these devs are WAY better than what sprint does. these guys work out more bugs and add way more options and allow our phones to do way more..or you could stay stock if you really want to
its so worth it to root. took me like 10 mins. (i have rooted and rom'd other android phones in the past so it was very easy but if you watch a a couple of those How-To vids and read a little bit in the how to threads, you'll be fine.)

If you accepted the 4.3 OTA, there is no way to go back to MD4 at this time. The update has installed the Knox bootloader. You will brick the phone if you try to go back to MD4. Until the devs find a way around this, you're stuck on 4.3
Hi all
Hope this is the correct area...
My hubby bought me a S20 plus for my birthday through a local dealer.
I noticed a few issues like not being able to use biometrics or install certain apps.
I've since found out the phone has been rooted.
I've tried to do a factory reset, but this hasn't helped.
I've downloaded root checker and it confirms the phone is rooted. I've downloaded SuperSU yet is won't work as ver 2.82 claims it's for an older Version of Android.
I've downloaded solid explorer to delete the root access files such as Busybox and SU however I cannot find these files in the system folder or the system/bin folder.
Can anyone advise on how I can unroot my phone? I am unable to install certain needed apps due to this.
Phone details below. Sorry am unable to upload pics.
UI Version = 1
Android Version = 10
Let me know if other info is needed.
I've even tried calling the Samsung Center and they are unable to assist...
Thanks all

You will need to get hold of the stock firmware from somewhere like Sammobile and flash back to stock using ODIN. There's tons of guides knocking about on here for the step by step. The damage is done though as far as any Knox related features go, it's like a fuse that blows when you root and you can never fix that.
Having said that, biometrics should have never been affected by rooting so that's a bit unusual. Flash stock and set up from scratch then go from there, could be faulty also
Thanks for the guidance Dave. I'll search the forums for the steps.
For clarity, when I say biometrics didn't work, it works allow me to record etc, but when I tried to enable it, like on my banking app, it wouldn't allow me. This is how I eventually figured out my phone was rooted. While I know the benefits of being rooted, a normal everyday user like myself, certainly won't benefit from it.
I've had a Samsung my entire life, and always saw the secured by knox logo... When you say damage has been done, does this mean that all my security in the device, such as my banking details etc, may be compromised?
Jees. I hope not. As this would really freak me out...
Ok so Finding the firmware wasn't to difficult. Sanmobile quite easy to navigate.
Just a query please... My phone base band version lists g985fxxu1atb2 however the closest I could find to this is G985FXXU1ATBM
Is this ok or does it have to be the exact same description?
Shoo. Lol. Really hope I'm going to be able to get this right **insert nervous smile emoticon here**

The last letters are the region/operator of the Rom. Not necessarily has to be the exact description, the really important are the first that indicate model number.
Ok. So have downloaded Odin and am busy downloading the flash firmware.
May I please be so bold as to ask someone on here to please share a link tot he step by step guide that I will need to follow in order to flash my phone back to the original boot thingie :silly::silly::silly:
I have tried to search but seem to only come up with a nexus thread with no mention of Odin.
~Sorry to ask, but little overwhelmed LOL and want to make sure I do this properly and not screw up my phone.

Can you unlock your phone with biometrics? Im guessing only the banking apps don't work because it's rooted. If i remember correctly most banking apps and maybe Google pay(not sure about that) stop working after rooting because the phone is "compromised" and it's not safe. You have to hide your root status from these apps and they will work properly then. Maybe someone else can help you with that because i do not remember how to do it.
Hi Marto
Yes, biometrics does work, although not really good. But that's probably due to the hectic screen protector.
Correctly so, it's mostly the banking / payment apps that won't work, and I can't check or download any software updates... Although I belive this can also be done manually....
But wow, there's an app that hides the root status? That might be a whole lot easier than re flashing. Truthfully I'm Sh!tting myself at the thought of attempting this ????

if the phone was bought as new, go back to the dealer and demand a new one that is not rooted.
could also be that your husband rooted the phone and installed software that keep tabs on what you do.
