Hi all
Hope this is the correct area...
My hubby bought me a S20 plus for my birthday through a local dealer.
I noticed a few issues like not being able to use biometrics or install certain apps.
I've since found out the phone has been rooted.
I've tried to do a factory reset, but this hasn't helped.
I've downloaded root checker and it confirms the phone is rooted. I've downloaded SuperSU yet is won't work as ver 2.82 claims it's for an older Version of Android.
I've downloaded solid explorer to delete the root access files such as Busybox and SU however I cannot find these files in the system folder or the system/bin folder.
Can anyone advise on how I can unroot my phone? I am unable to install certain needed apps due to this.
Phone details below. Sorry am unable to upload pics.
UI Version = 1
Android Version = 10
Let me know if other info is needed.
I've even tried calling the Samsung Center and they are unable to assist...
Thanks all
Lee

You will need to get hold of the stock firmware from somewhere like Sammobile and flash back to stock using ODIN. There's tons of guides knocking about on here for the step by step. The damage is done though as far as any Knox related features go, it's like a fuse that blows when you root and you can never fix that.
Having said that, biometrics should have never been affected by rooting so that's a bit unusual. Flash stock and set up from scratch then go from there, could be faulty also
Thanks for the guidance Dave. I'll search the forums for the steps.
For clarity, when I say biometrics didn't work, it works allow me to record etc, but when I tried to enable it, like on my banking app, it wouldn't allow me. This is how I eventually figured out my phone was rooted. While I know the benefits of being rooted, a normal everyday user like myself, certainly won't benefit from it.
I've had a Samsung my entire life, and always saw the secured by knox logo... When you say damage has been done, does this mean that all my security in the device, such as my banking details etc, may be compromised?
Jees. I hope not. As this would really freak me out...
Ok so Finding the firmware wasn't to difficult. Sanmobile quite easy to navigate.
Just a query please... My phone base band version lists g985fxxu1atb2 however the closest I could find to this is G985FXXU1ATBM
Is this ok or does it have to be the exact same description?
Shoo. Lol. Really hope I'm going to be able to get this right **insert nervous smile emoticon here**

The last letters are the region/operator of the Rom. Not necessarily has to be the exact description, the really important are the first that indicate model number.
Ok. So have downloaded Odin and am busy downloading the flash firmware.
May I please be so bold as to ask someone on here to please share a link tot he step by step guide that I will need to follow in order to flash my phone back to the original boot thingie :silly::silly::silly:
I have tried to search but seem to only come up with a nexus thread with no mention of Odin.
~Sorry to ask, but little overwhelmed LOL and want to make sure I do this properly and not screw up my phone.
REAL noob here, so apologies if I come across lazy and getting others to do the work, but am really grateful for the help.
Maybe I'm searching incorrectly???
I found this somehow....
Is this it?

Can you unlock your phone with biometrics? Im guessing only the banking apps don't work because it's rooted. If i remember correctly most banking apps and maybe Google pay(not sure about that) stop working after rooting because the phone is "compromised" and it's not safe. You have to hide your root status from these apps and they will work properly then. Maybe someone else can help you with that because i do not remember how to do it.
Hi Marto
Yes, biometrics does work, although not really good. But that's probably due to the hectic screen protector.
Correctly so, it's mostly the banking / payment apps that won't work, and I can't check or download any software updates... Although I belive this can also be done manually....
But wow, there's an app that hides the root status? That might be a whole lot easier than re flashing. Truthfully I'm Sh!tting myself at the thought of attempting this ????

if the phone was bought as new, go back to the dealer and demand a new one that is not rooted.
could also be that your husband rooted the phone and installed software that keep tabs on what you do.

I’m new to this forum, and I’m new to android, with the minimum knowledge in developing or modifying anything in an android phone. So, I’m asking if someone has solution on my issue, should he please explain it with all the details.
I just bought 3 phones, SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 MINI VERIZON SCH-I435 - ANDROID VERSION IS 4.4.2 [maybe just 1 that I selected on the phone to update the software, and the others (I still didn’t opened it also no line on it) are maybe 4.2]; I need it for 3 employees that I want to use it with a specific program for my business that it not needed to be updated continuously, and its suppose to getting updated daily with a direct USB connection to our server.
My issue is, that for many reasons I want that the internet and any type of data connection should be fully disabled, no browser, no e-mail, no data apps, no in apps purchases, no MMS messaging, and also no video. Just Talk & Text and. So I’m wondering if it’s possible on an android phone to disable all data apps and block all data connections, in a way that it shouldn’t be able to restore it back.
Before I came here, someone told me that I can do it if I first root the phone (he also didn’t know what I need to do after rooting) he gave me to try a few programs to root the phone, Super User, TowelRoot, Kingo ROOT ,Super SU but as I see nothing worked for my phone. The SuperSU gives a message that it cannot find the SU binary, and the others don’t work for other reasons – I tried to search somewhat on the internet about this kind of problems with rooting this model phone, and I found some complicated guidance with a combination of a few downloads, what I even didn’t understand the instructions how to do it, and I’m also definitely afraid of damaging the phone, and maybe after all it will still not work for me to root the phone – and the main thing is that my goal is not rooting the phone, but to totally disable any internet and data connections from this phones.
So I’m asking if someone can please give me a step by step solution for this kind of modification on this model phones, to permanent disable all data connection from the phone, and if 1 of the steps is to root the phone, then I also need detailed information from someone who has the experience with rooting this model phone with this android version.
I will appreciate everyone’s time and effort to help me.
Thanks
P.S. if my issue can only be solved by a paid android developer, maybe… I’m willing to pay some amount to do this. So if u see this for the only solution, then please direct me to a reliable developer. depends on price, experience, and more, to decide if willing to pay

Hello, i think to achive this someone have to create a modified rom(maybe based on samsung's stock or even cyanogenMod). I dont think its pretty difficult, but i dont have the wright knowledge to accomplish this.
But i can help you for rooting the phones. S4 mini s running 4.4.2(lets call it v1). But samsung pushed an update again on 4.4.2 after some months(call it v2).The v1 is easy to update with towelroot.
But the v2's kernel cant be rooted with that way. I follow some instructions from a post here on xda and i rooted mine. If you are on v2 you have to flash v1's kernel with odin, root it and then flash the v2's kernel. That's the way i did to my phone and i successfully root it.
You can download from sammobile all the stuff you need(kernels). I think it will gonna work for you too. To check if you are on the old(v1) or on the new(v2) rom, try towelroot and if it fails you are on v2, else on v1.
Thanks.
First, how do i get such kind modified rom?
second, about rooting. I tried already Towelroot and its not working, so maybe this means that i have already the update that you call V2. how could i know if i have V1 or V2?
also can you please explain me in detail your solution. Sory Im a novice in the android language. what "odin"?, how do i get it, how do i use it?, what means flash? how do i flash v1's kernel? and how do i flash V2's kernel?
Thanks again

About the 'modified rom' you have to wait for a response from someone with the knowledge to do this. There is no reason talking about root from now.
You can pm some developers and ask for help.
Maybe try something like LBE Security think you can deny access to things like that and maybe have a master app password. Maybe try looking under Android development forum under software or general. You may get a better response to your question, as it's pretty much just a device topic here. But I would think on Android such things should be possible.
Hi there,
A while back I updated my already rooted Z1C to the newest firmware 14.6.A.1..236 via PC Companion. I thought it was just a minor update so I did not think of losing my root access
As far as I know all I can do now in order to get back my lovely root privileges is by going back to Kitkat, install Dualboot Recovery, put my pre rooted Android on my phone and flash it.
So here is my question:
Is there any fancy way of doing this more directly? I would much prefer not having to fiddling around with backups, which may or may not restore all my data...
I would also be interested in why I can't just flash the flashable.zip directly onto my phone using Flashtool or similar. As an IT student I would really like to learn this kind of stuff
Thanks in advance!

You can get root with KingRoot app and then you can change it to SuperSu with this guide:
Code:
www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html
(I know that the guide is somewhere in XDA, but can't find it.) I have tested the procedure and for me it worked.

Thanks for your fast reply. However, after googling the App while the download was still going I found several articles which found the App not trustworthy. Trying to download the App from their site directly even gave my a very clear warning. So I'd rather use something else :/
I think the best reasons against the App can be found here:
https://www.quora.com/Is-KingRoot-the-one-tap-Chinese-rooting-app-legit-and-safe
If, however, a more experienced and credible user (sorry foguh, this is nothing personal ) can recommend the App as well, I might give it a shot...

There are 381 pages about KingRoot, I am not entirely sure is it only about people begging for specific root methods, but I believe there could be some convincing posts about it. And I don't trust KingRoot that much myself, that is why I included the post how to replace KingRoot with SuperSu.
Nothing taken personally though, just trying to provide solution for you, which worked for me
I am still unsure of the App but as it seems to be the easiest option I installed it and rooted my phone with it.
Everything went quite smoothly. One thing I really didn't like however is the required internet connection during rooting. Normally this tells me immediately that its fetching some malware and I get my hands off...
Of course I also immediately replaced their App with SuperSU but I am still worried it might placed more on my phone than it claims.... Let's hope for the best
Anyhow, thanks a lot to you foguh! It's really nice to get so quick and helpful responses and I appreciate the effort
Have a nice day/evening/morning/night/...

Glad I could help!
As far as I am aware, the internet connection during rooting process is for fetching the correct root method for the phone (and that damn Purify app.)
But if you are worried that there could be some other leftovers, you can monitor the network traffic of your phone to be 100% sure. And of course go through the files manually. (Personally, I haven't bothered to do it, I trust people too much)
The easiest way to say "Thanks!" is to hit the button below!
Hi,
terribly sorry to bother you guys!
I recently bought an M9 (Belgium, no carrier) and rooted it with the help of this youtube video /watch?v=rOHN8byHAzk
works fine, it's rooted.
The thing is: i did updates before doing the root, as i unlocked bootloader everything was lost/deleted, at the time (4a.m), with my brain half asleep i didn't think about doing the updates again before performing the actual root. Now i keep getting the "system update available" message and can't get rid of it.
It'll keep popping up every few hours, obviously i can't install them because i arrive back at twrp recovery.
Android version 5.0.2
Kernel version 3.10.49-g5c16a62
I turned software updates off in the "about" section in settings, to no avail. I keep getting the message that updates are available. Downloading them and then proceeding to remove the downloaded files don't solve it.
I'm a total noob at this, but (hopefully) not a complete idiot. If there are any steps i can take to get rid of this constantly popping up, please advise me:fingers-crossed:
There's more than one possibility to proceed. Could you provide the output of the "htc_fastboot getvar all" command, when M9 is in download mode (without IMEI and Serial no.). I'd like to point you into the right direction.
Send by the swarm intelligence of my coffee machine ?.
Thanks for taking the time!
It's in download mode, i've got my command prompt open but it says "htc_fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, program or batchfile"
In all honesty just pay for s-off and you can flash an unsigned zip and be done with it.
Otherwise you need to get back to official status to flash the update. Pita to be honest.

Honestly, i just rooted my last phone through good old towelroot without ever having to touch or change anything else. I should not have touched stuff i know nothing of to begin with.
I appreciate you guys taking the time to reply, i'm gonna find some sites to teach me more about this, if you have anything that could help me, feel free to share, because i literally know 0.

Basically, there is a safety feature in HTC otas now that prevents them from running unless your phone is 100% stock. So being rooted, it won't run. There are only two ways forward, find the RUU files for your carrier and install them, or get s-off and update manually. There are multiple threads on how to do all this in the General forum. Read there before doing anything else. HTC phones work differently from other handsets that have to be hacked to achieve root. There is an official path, but how you do it matters.

The easiest working solution i found for the issue is to go to the Apps management (Settings, apps), go to "All", select "Updater" and then clear data.
No pop ups so far.

Ok so I just got out of prison and use to have a rooted phone actually I've rooted all my phones I cant find a single walk through for this phone matter of fact I cant find anything on it and I want to root it because I wanna get rid of ads and custom recovery possibly a rom that's more customizable its through straight talk can anyone help me please once again it's a sm-s260dl
Just bumping this to see if any response. I also have Sm-s260dl, and it's locked up tight. "oem unlock" option is hidden in settings, and I've tried tricks posted online to reveal it, but don't work. I also went to authorized Samsung service, and they couldn't do anything. They are bound by Samsung agreement that they can't flash any fw on a device except for the original stock fw (to repair only), and there is only one file officially available for Sm-s260dl, which is the same fw it has, which is Tracfone branded, (which is probably the reason it's so inaccessible).
I have network unlocked, using Samkey, and have access to freeze system apps and write secure settings, using adb and Island/appops/setedit apps, but would really like to be able to unlock the bl. I know it's made unlockable by Samsung, but how's can I get to it?
Any way to use activity manager or other adb to toggle the switch through terminal, or...?
Thanks
Hello,
I'm looking for stock firmware for this device. I'm having difficulties flashing the firmware I have found for it. I need the BIT 5 version to flash in Odin.
Thanks.
Souds as if all our s260dl need the same bit, as ive also been searching for it. It is listed as downloadable with Z3x box server, torrent file, so i dont know if there is an atual file attached to it, i dont know. I have been able to get a couple torrents to work, but not this one.I I have chimera, and it has 0 files for this model.
Interesting enough, when looking into this device, I found a post, that shows an image of the s260dl and on the screen the firmware installed is J260Axxxxx.
If i remember correctly, it was a leak before the official release /announcement for the device.
Im thinking itll be accessable soon., or I'll end up getting the z3x box soon anyway. Ill update here if found etc.
Bootloaders locked tight, no root for this device unless exploit found.
Can easily be network unlocked for use on other carriers tho.
please help with this phone

Dude, what happened? Did you manage to move forward with the device?
Hello,
I have recently entered the world of Xiaomi after a history with Sony Devices (Xperia, Xperia SP, Xperia Z3). I'm so far delighted with the Mi 10T Lite, it's feature rich and blazingly fast. However, I miss one feature I had installed on my SP and Z3 that made their batteries live extra long. It's this:
Battery Charge Limit [ROOT] - Apps on Google Play
Stop charging at desired level to preserve battery health for most devices!
play.google.com
With this tool, you can essentially leave your device permanently on the charger and it will stay within the limits you have set. I used to have it set to 71-80%. So when the charge dropped to 70% it started charging, until reaching 80%. I therefore balanced keeping the battery charged for short intervals and at a sweet spot for its health, with having enough charge in case I wanted to grab my phone and leave the house. I really love this app.
The problem is, it requires root privileges.
I understand that rooting my Xiaomi is not particularly hard, but since it is a new device I would not want to void its warranty. It's possible that some defect shows up and I am left without a warranty. It would be a particularly big bummer if I discovered I rooted the device only to see that the app does not work properly with it.
So, could someone with a rooted device try out this fantastic app and let me know if it works? You might end up with a battery life extender you never knew existed!
Many thanks,
Yanni
Athens/Greece
Friendly bump! Could somebody try this nifty app for battery life optimization on their rooted 10T Lite? Let me know if it works so I can go ahead with arcane rooting magick, hehe.
I have been using it for the last two years. It is a great app.
It does work fine on the mi10t lite, you just need to change the control file from default to "input_suspend" pixel2/xiaomi mi6. After that the limit is respected. Another alternative is a magisk muddle called "Advanced Charging Controller" it is more technical than bcl.

Thank you! Both for the confirmation and also the control file's location.
I think I'll be rooting my device, using magisk. Briefly browsing a couple of guides, I guess it won't be very involved. Besides voiding warranty I'll be losing OTA firmware updates. I presume I will have the option to manually updating by flashing a new official ROM.

Just FYI - you should not void the warranty (at least in Europe - https://www.piana.eu/root/) and OTA updates will arrive normally. You will need to restore stock boot image from Magisk manager before installing OTA and then re-root the phone afterwards, but that's the only complication.

Thanks for the link. Besides the EU statutory warranty, a quick search reveals that the company itself allows rooting without voiding your warranty. So I'm a happy camper I guess.
Guys, please, if anyone can upload the .xqcn file generated by the backup in QPST, thank you. It has to be a Mi10T Lite Global or EEA.

You do not need to ask in every unrelated topic. I guess that no one has the file and/or no one wants to share his IMEI publicly.

In fact, there is the issue of IMEI. I wanted the file to go through my device and see how it would behave, taking the risks. Unfortunately the XDA community was once more collaborative.

Maybe if you provide step by step guide how to extract xqcn file and remove sensitive information from it before uploading to the internet, someone will be willing to do it.
In each case, we are heavily offtopic here.
Hello, I thought of hijacking my own thread again.
After painfully waiting for a week (go Xiaomi!), I unlocked my bootloader, and got an instant factory reset with all my data gone (again, go Xiaomi! I didn't expect that).
But now all is unlocked and I am left with the task of rooting my device. I think I 'll use Magisk. From what I understand I need a boot.img file to patch and then flash. Thinking I 'd like to keep my current ROM, I looked around for a full ROM image to get the boot.img file. But I couldn't find it.
My current ROM is MIUI Global 12.0.5.0 (QJSEUVF), which like I said, I could not find anywhere. It must be an early 12.0.5 ROM used on the first phones shipped. I have two questions:
a) Is it possible to somehow extract the boot.img file from the running phone?
b) If not, and if I can't find the installed ROM zip, what ROM zip would you pick to stay as close as possible to the one I have now? The reason I want this is that the phone works pretty damn fine up to now, and I see reports of problems after major upgrades, like version 12.5.
Any info much appreciated!
Best Wishes,

Bootloader unlocking always results in a factory reset (unless vendor seriously screwed up), it's standard security feature of Android since..like pretty much forever.
If you do not have boot.img at hand, the most easy solution is probably to hot boot TWRP ("fastboot boot twrp.img") and flash Magisk from there. Also it might be a good idea to reflash your phone with normal global version which is already available for download, QJSEUVF sounds like Vodafone version, I would certainly get rid of it and replace it with QJSEUXM.

I should have figured out what VF means. I think I will take the straightforward way and use QJSEUXM which I have found readily available. Thanks!
