If we updated to EB13, the other roms such as Viper v.2.0 won't work anymore will it?
how soon can we expect ROMs for this version?
Dude, give the devs some time to cook their roms, they have lives too and I can pretty much guarantee they'll be out by the weekend.
I was just wondering if the older roms were going to work. I'm not trying to be an ass or anything.
Sure old roms will work but there old builds of froyo and wont have what the official one has
sent from my Epic 4G
Just give it about a week, then we'll be flooding with new ROMS!!!!

It seems that the ROMs the chefs are cooking are becoming more unstable. I am not trying to put them down, but I havnt flashed a stable ROM on my device since Dutty's ROMS. Is it because all the releases that are coming out are not meant for the diamond and are ported from other devices? It would be quite nice to eventually get a stable ROM with all the new tricks of the trade on the devices already.

No stability issues for me on my cooked rom.
Chefs can really only do so much with official releases. So unless they get new ones, they're stuck with messing around with the ones they've got, unless they wanna start from scratch, which I imagine is extremely difficult.
The reason most of the new ones are betas is because they're either..
1) Actual beta tests to discover very minor bugs before releasing finals soon after and based off official ROMs, OR..
2) Based off the Windows Mobile 6.5 beta ROM, which has never made it to an official release and had all its bugs worked out. Soo.. If you're working off a beta ROM, the most you can really deliver is another beta release. There's so many of them because 6.5 is up and coming, with more features and somewhat more customization to it, whereas 6.1's been out for forever. It's just more fun to work and experiment with right now.

It's obvious you need to do more research to put a blanket statement out like that. Please take the time to read at least the first page of threads and you will quickly discover how inaccurate your statement was.
ill close this thread
before the flaming start....don't tar all chefs with the same brush.
all roms here are beta.....work in progress......something new.....and the roms gets updated....a chef will state final...then bam....new update...if you not happy with cooked roms you need to go back to a standard buggy rom too.
thank you....thread closed
Hi all, are there any Android donut ROMs for the HTC hero? I know there are some for some other android phone but are there any ports for the hero ?
If there were, you think it wouldn't show up? Have some patience, the device hasn't even been out for a month yet.

lol! well i too am just wondering why there has not been a rom for the phone yet!
Yeah i hear the "its only been out for a month" but seriuosly??? the magic had roms before that but just by looking at the hero forums there doesnt seem anyone to be working on cooking roms..
exactly my point minogue, i know it might be tough to make the ROMs but its not like it can't be done
Well the phone has been rooted already.
However many people rooted their magic and g1 to install the htc Hero rom. And I guess since we have an HTC Hero, developers are not interested in making roms or optiming the current HTC Hero Rom.
yea well I still dont understand why they wouldnt want to optimize the hero its supposed to be the best android phone yet wouldn't they want to play around with it and see what they can make out of it?
Well hopefully HTC will release an update soon. It's said to be released within next months.
yea at least the update is out soon so I guess well all just have to wait
as i have said before
i too find it very strange that no chef is on board with us hero users
as we all know the chefs like to come/be first.....and we have nobody
unless the HTC update is all we need
Yeah, i was kinda hoping Cyanogen would get himself a Hero and start optimizing the ROM to improves speed, along with maybe some extra Donut features.
But i think the problem with the Hero's Sense UI is that it's not open source and so you're not allowed to tweak or mess with it. Only the underlying Android is open source and so may be meddled with and distributed.
Cobblers! Windows mobile is not open source and that's been getting cooked for years!
The main reason i reckon is because we already have what everyone wants....that's why the roms are all adding Hero stuff to the Magic.
They'll be here soon enough, in the meantime, be happy with the fact that you have what everyone else wants...!
I believe that Paul from Modaco is going to be cooking soon.
He's already posted stock unbranded and branded ROM's and mentioned cooking up a ROM with new Sense UI stuff soon.
I hope it's True. Paul's bits on using recovery image has already got me rooting and doing nandroid backups etc (I supplied the stock t_mobile rom to him as a result)
I guess that most people (like myself) just have no need for an other rom. I can already do everything I want and I have only minor speed problems from time to time. So I think motivation is very low right now on the rom front. This of course will change with a new Android version or updates Sense UI. Until then I'll code apps instead of messing around with the rom.

Yep, nothing much out there yet.
If we do get people working on speed improvements/optimisations then that will be great. Back on my touch HD some of the roms were very slick.
Sense UI upgrades are main thing, along with new versions of Android itself. We'll probaly get them faster as rom's here than official upgrades

You wouldnt want to customize something that is allready very good? If I could I would optimize it so its even greater than It Is. But that's just me I guess other people dobt wabt to make something that Is great greater
I believe the reason there is no cooking going on is the fact that there is nothing to upgrade yet. The Hero ROMs that are available right now are the latest thing, there is nothing newer so there is nothing to upgrade or borrow from better ROMs. Once there are newer phones and/or ROMs the cooking should start itself

The donut stuff came from a developer release by Google. Its not from another phone.
I'm seeing all these ROMS with sense 2.0 that lack 4G and what not... instead of adding 4G to the rom... wouldn't it be easier to try to take sense from a rom and put it on one that already has 4G??? If this questions is dumb don't get smart lol I'm still learning when it comes to this...
I'm not a dev but I'd like to believe it is more to it than that. It's hard enough taking a rom not designed for the EVO and making it work.
gingerbread source has been released for months. and we are just now seeing the first, buggy leak for the evo. it's freaking hard to incorperate sense into a rom. takes months for a team of professional developers to do it. it's not just installing an app.

The problem with roms that have newly leaked gingerbread and sense 2.0 is that htc hasn't released source codes so the devs can't get 4G and in sone cases camera to work. Give them time this is the best group of devs in the world here at xda
Are there any ROMS yet that are based off of the official gingerbread and not the leak?? All the ones I see in the dev section are ones based off the leak.

Fresh is the first one that comes to mind... thought there was more... ok, maybe not? (too lazy atm to really search. ) But a new Sprint Lovers is in beta. And xHaus has a rooted stock.
Lol I looked through the dev section and everything was still based off the leaks. But ill check out fresh thanks

There are several, at least. The official ROM is 4.22.651.2. The leak is 4.22.651.1. Since the numbers are so close, I didn't even notice a new ROM was released until my father came over and had version 2.3.3 on his phone. He came over to root his phone. Oops!!! It didn't take me long to realize he had messed up. fortunately, he is very patient on waiting for these things.
GingerAleV4, MikG-v2.00, fresh-evo-4.1.1.0, etc. Very very very good roms, 100% all working, fast, good battery life.

Hello friends,
Just upgraded from the evo 4g through Craigslist & going to get the Evo LTE for my often travels to Texas.
I have done a few hours of reading and one thing I can't grasp is what is the dominate rom for our S2s?
I only really want root for backup & wifi hotspot. I would prefer to make sure I have no issues with gps or Bluetooth as well.
[*]What is the most stable setup?
[*]Most curated or updated lovingly?
[*]Any big drawbacks to your suggestion?
I appreciate the knowledge!
@IdeaJason
Gingerbread or ICS?
This should be posted in Q/A, but, that's irreleavnt...
In my opinion, the most stable ROMs are the stock Samsung builds. Stable is the key word. It (the EL29 Gingerbread ROM) is the most widely-available build, installed on thousands of active devices. If there were problems with it, we'd know/the problems would be out there. This is the "official" ROM for the phone.
There are a lot of ROMs for you to play with. Personally, I love all of Calkulin's ROMs, all extremely speedy and robust. Stable as well.
I currently have the FE07 ICS ROM, but that's because I'm an Android nerd. It has it's bugs, but it's an official Samsung leak.
All in all, just play it safe. Obviously, things like CM9 or Codename Android are still in Alpha builds, so they are not what you're looking for.
Sfhub uploads the One-Click ROM/Modem/Kernel install files - these kick ass. He has them for all builds.
Sorry if this post was a little vague, I'm in a hurry to work.
There's no such thing as a dominant rom for any popular device here on xda, because there are so many awesome developers making stuff for it. Also, development now is strong enough that bluetooth and gps are working on pretty much any rom unless otherwise stated. General rule of thumb to finding popular/updated roms is to look at when the thread for the rom was started, how many views/replies has been made in the thread, and when the rom was last updated. After that, you can determine for yourself.
I agree there is no dominiate rom. Each rom has its selling points. All in All all roms we have are awesome. This kind of thread will only lead to flaming so lets not open that can of worms.

Hi my name is Larry..... Hi Larry.....and I am a flashaholic, blazer ROM is my ROM of choice lol ohhhhh yeah

thanks
Thanks all for your replies.
I'm not looking to start a flame war at all, just trying to save myself a ton of tinker time before going on a trip.
I have everything rooted from my Viewsonic Gtab to my old EVO and they both had bugs that affected my performance on the road.
I want stable but I also want root backup & hotspot. So I know I can't use the Samsung stuff. I would prefer ICS if it is stable but ginger is fine if it the only option.
I'm just looking for opinions. Even ones that are unpopular if they are worthy.
(Sucks changing phones. I invested so much time learning to root & all the different roms that when you change its like going to a new OS.)
Thanks again all who have & will post.

I have told several people the same thing and like I said I have tried everything, but blazer has all the functionality and no quirks and great battery life that you are looking for. IMO, just from my experience stay away from ICS until source code is released. I am not for sure but it seems like all the devs are just trying to make the most out of a good situation with the leaks right now but once they get something solid they will be able to make ICS just as good as their gingerbread roms. Shout out to all the devs for all your hard work I envy your skill. Thank you
