Hi I've been reading here for awhile and just decided to post on here. I'm really considering rooting and was wondering. Are there any feminine type themes or ROMs? I did a search and all I found was this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860559 and it looks good but I'm really nervous on rooting because I don't want to brick my phone. I've read through the noob faq and also the ROM bible but I'm not sure if its what I'm looking for. Sorry if I'm confusing but I'm trying to learn more about making the phone my own. TIA!
29 views and no posts? No I'm not impatient or anything just wondering if anybody is gonna comment or help me out?
I think the reason people may have simply viewed and not posted is due to the lack of feminine themes out there. Are you looking for the latest and greatest, or simply a ROM that's nice and stable for now? Making themes for the Froyo ROM is much easier then making themes for the Gingerbread ROM. I am currently undergoing a massive undertaking of completely themed Gingerbread ROMs (as a hobby) and would not mind setting some time aside to make a few ROMs of the more feminie nature if enough people would like that.
It's good that you looked at the noob FAQ and did your research. before posting. As far as bricking the phone? There is always that chance, but the new methods for rooting the Slide are nearly foolproof now and wish it was that easy when I first rooted.
If you and/or other people post in this thread with if they would rather a CM6 or CM7 theme and how feminine they/you want it to look, I can lend some time to making a theme that is more suited to a womans taste. Do keep in mind that CM7 is experimental and has problems with a wide variety of users, CM6 however is much more stable.

Thank you so much for replying! I would like something stable without lots of problems. I wouldn't want to trouble you with taking time away from you working on something you are passionate about. But I do thank you for the offer. (if you do have the time to do so then thank you in advance) I'm gonna read around some more and hopefully see what I can find. Thanks again!
Also there is always the option to use apps such as adwlauncher, openhome etc that offer variety of themes

I've read about a few of those. I've tried adwlauncher before and I didn't like it to well (was moving between screens REALLY slow). Might try it again once I'm rooted. Thanks for the reply!
I posted a ROM over in the Themes and Apps section. Here is the link to the thread.

Hi aa,
I would be very interested in a feminine themed rom.
I currently have the SLIDE-Reloaded v1 which is in the bible by True blue. This guys really has it manned up so I had to delete a few things but what I really liked was that fact that it was pretty close to the stock rom. I had initially installed CM6 when I first purchased the phone and cannot really pin point what it was about CM6 that I didn't like.
I don't know a whole lot about this so please bear with me. Would installing another rom delete my apps and settings? To me the obvious answer is yes but I could be wrong.
Cheers!!

To be honest I did mention either CM6 (Froyo) or CM7 (Gingerbread) for the feminine themes, as that is currently what I am familiar with. I am going to make a more pink/lavender CM6.1.1 ROM in the near future as soon as I finish my newest CM7 project.
And yes, it is recomended to do a wipe before installing a different style ROM, like going from a Sense UI to a CM based ROM. You can always try an advanced nandroid restore and just restore data...

Thanks for the work!!!
I am very new to the concept of rooting and flashing ROMS. Haven't flashed any kernels yet (confused about that). I flashed a couple of Calkulin's ROMs on my Epic 4G Touch and the notifications are being troublesome. I know that E4GT v1.0 is not stable. Is there ANY other ROM that is perfectly stable and offers wifi tethering (ICS ROM preferred).
Thanks a bunch!
This question was so important you had to ask it twice? Anyway, there is a thread like this everyday. Same answer for all.... It's user preference. Just because I like something doesn't mean you will

It'd get deleted from General section (sorry I am new), which is why I reposted it here.
I really don't care about the cosmetics. The only thing I want is all the features working properly, and have wifi tethering and good battery life. Any ROMs that do these?
Thanks!

Well most likely your gonna wanna stay away from ICS builds as it's not official and other experience different battery life, but if you want it I suggest mijjz ICS Blend, he keeps it supported greatly. As for a GB rom I suggest either calkulins e4gt rom or blazer rom 4.0 (themed like ics). Both are extremely stable, and calkulins rom includes a battery saver script for great batter life.

If you want ALL features working, you will need to go with a stock rom, and it wont be ICS cause there isnt an official release (notifications issue is an ICS issue, not the custom rom's).
If you want wifi tethering, stock wont work for you. So I would recommend you look at the gingerbread roms. Caulkin's el29 is a good one. Not sure it has tethering though.
There are apps you can buy that will get you tethering, so maybe stock gingerbread + a paid app will meet your needs.
Hope that helps.

I read:
"very new to the concept of rooting and flashing ROMS"
and
"Haven't flashed any kernels yet (confused about that)"
And think "You should Not Be Flashing ANYthing ICS based, at All!"
You could be headed straight to hardbrickland, one way ticket.
Like mentioned in the two previous posts, I would stay away from anything ICS based right now, not only because they have a few issues, at best, but mostly because of the bricks people are getting when playing around with them while not readoing direction Very Carefully and not being familiar with flashing techniques on this phone. If you are going to play with them, be Very Familiar with ODIN and sfhubs OCs, Know Your Kernals, Read Every Damn Thing about the restore process, watch all of QBKing's videos on flashing/restoring re: the ICS stuff, read the sticky thread in general "How To Not Brick our E4GT"...
Like many people have mentioned throughout the threads recent, ICS is nice, but it being unstable many people, even experienced flashoholics, are returning to GB (read as: EL29 stock restore by sfhub) for stability until an official release.

Look at the thread rating, read the comments for bugs and flash several till you find one that meets your needs.
But man... you better do a lot of reading first and you would see how these threads are frowned upon.
Quick background about my flashing habits before we begin. My first Android phone was the G2, and I really liked it but wanted something with more power. About a year later I "upgraded" to the Sensation and immediately I was taken aback by how awful Sense is/was. It became my mission to get back to the pure Android feel and so I found the (original) HNS ROMs. Those were great, and that phone lives on today as my wifes primary device. Now I have a Gnex, and my "problem" is that it comes out of the box the way it took me a year+ to get my Sensation so there isnt much I want to change. Roughly 2 weeks ago I decided to flash CM9 to see what all the hype is about, and I can honestly say I dont see what the big deal is. Sure, I can change the governor and modify the LED for specific notifications but as far as I can tell thats about all you can do. Clearly there are other 'under the hood' modifications but none of them are immediately evident to me at least, and so I am about to flash JB.
Am I missing something huge that CM9 does that JB doesnt not? Is my analysis totally off? Let me know if JB is a mistake and if I should have stuck with CM9 in the comments below!

It doesn't work for you, then ok. Nobody is going to convince you to use a specific ROM. Its YOUR preference and YOUR phone, so do as you please or better yet, make your own ROM the way you want. If you read you would know people like CM9 for its stability.

CM9 have way more customization options than that.

Dont get me wrong, I am not knocking CM9 in any way. However, I can tell you I had zero issue with the stock ICS build my phone came either. I am hoping JB proves to be just as stable.
lol a troll thread it is. nobody are allowed to blame CM. best android community ever! and now AOKP is also emerging. how dare you insult the only dev community that give free support for your device. you dont like it go away and keep it yourself. no need to tell it here. use stock rom and go play outside.
EDIT : ok... but still, whats your point of this thread? you want to try JB then go ahead. and since your stock ICS is working well just stick with it and wait for JB OTA. CM are already working on JB, its gonna be CM10. you dont follow news regularly i suppose... CM9 was started from scratch with no features for your info. and its still in RC! what do you expect....

Agreed, but how many of them are actually useful and not just "cool"? After reviewing every single feature of the ROM I couldnt find anything else I thought was worth while. If you have specific examples please let me know, as I spent hours making the decision to ditch CM9 and I hope I made the right choice.

Who is "insulting" CM team?? I have used their products for years and I think they do a great job. The purpose of this thread (if you bothered to read it) was to determine if I will be missing any functionality of CM9 by moving to JB. Assuming you are not currently using JB, then I respectfully ask you to move along and comment elsewhere. This thread is for people who have used both ROMs, and can comment about the differences. Please troll elsewhere LuffyPSP.
Not yet having a Nexus, I can see how CM9 wouldn't be such a big deal since you're coming from AOSP already. But for those of us running manufacturer-skinned-and-bloated devices, CM9 is really amazing. Lets us basically run Nexus software on better hardware.

You nailed it right there, and that was the premise of my first post. Coming from a Sense "enhanced" device the AOSP experience was priceless and amazing. However once you are already running a pure Google experience (stock ICS ona Gnex) there is much less to improve upon. Hence my movement from CM9 to JB, and hence the thread you are now reading. Some people here need to relax and have a civil discussion (not you, some of the others)!
Was this thread really needed? Cm9 is a great rom remember what your parents should of told you if you have nothing good to say then do not say anything at all. So shhhh

Wow, I guess we are back in kindergarten or something? I never once said a single negative thing about CM9. This thread is to discuss what features CM9 lacks that JB has, or the other way around. Do people even bother to read the thread before they chime in?
everybody is entitled to their opinion. And a ROM preference comes down to just that.
(without comparing features and what-not)
CM is living history in the world of Android development, specifically custom ROMs. I ran CM back on my original Droid when Koush first ported it (having to come up with ClockworkMod Recovery just to be able to do so, so that's one big thing that came about as an indirect result of CM). But Cyanogen was the first one to build a ROM from source, something that was a LOT harder back when he started. Many of Android's features were found in his ROMs first. While you may prefer this ROM or that, you should know that the CM team's impact on the android development community is only surpassed by Google itself (and it's by a narrow margin IMO). The CyanogenMod team is absolutely legendary and deserves more respect than that
as far as comparing CM9 to JB, it's apples to oranges. You won't see a CM JB ROM until source is released, that's how they work. And even still, it'll be a while before they get their ROM compiled, stable, and feature-packed
Came across this thread by accident... I think the users here was misled by the thread title... Anyway, i get what youre saying though about running aosp stock and cm9... You feel like youre not missing anything when running stock... Im not sure about stock ics but i think CM9 have alot of under the hood tweaks compare to stock... They may not be noticable to see but they are there hidden in codes ... May i say enhance in coding... Maybe wait for CM10, the wait will be worth it
Edit: apologize in advance if i misunderstood you

I remember when you would see CM before you would see the official ROM from Google... that was back during the G1 days... ah good times... Back then, he would release a basic rooted ROM then work out the extra features and bugs as he went along... but of course back then there was only one Android device, (and later only two or three) so it was easier.
The proliferation of different Android devices has really slowed down the CM development cycle. We are just now seeing a RC for CM9 and JB is already out in the wild.
CM has really influenced Android development as a whole... many features that come stock in Android today were first done by CM and then adopted into AOSP. I remember when Google Devs were asked at a press conference about specific features for a specific device... and they said "We won't do them, ask Cyanogen." Those guys have a lot of respect for Cyanogen, even way back when he worked on his own, and now he heads a huge team of Devs that rivals Google's in house team. (if not even larger)
There are a lot of little features that CM does that AOSP still doesn't and even others do not. Adjusting auto brightness settings are one I really like (especially on AMOLED screens) and also the color balance controls that help correct colors on AMOLED. There are other little tweaks and settings that you can do... and lots of code tweaks. Google must try to balance many aspects (performance/battery/multiple devices/differing hardware) with their code, but CM can focus on certain performance goals (in regards to all the mentioned aspects) and each version can be tweaked for its target device more than AOSP.
Basically CM is making AOSP the best it can be on the supported devices.

exactly. Hell, I think CM is the sole reason I even joined this forum when theming my D1 after Koush ported CM on another forum (I think alldroid or something like that initially). I remember the first experiments with JIT, and wow it was a ***** to get onto the D1 lol. I can't wait to see them play with JB when source drops. Thanks for the help! I have a toro nexus and do not view the evo fourm much!

Hmmm, so instead of using your time to give me a suggestion, u have to troll the thread instead. Thunbs up to u buddy.
Let me clarify. I know where to find the ROMs, kernels, themes etc. I know there are many choices when it comes to roms (aosp, sense, miui etc). I am not looking for some to hold my hand and explain to me the differences, because truth is that I probably have tried many if not all of them on my nexus. However the situation I am in is that my girl friends evos is outdated running a stable version of cm7 and timemat kernel and is starting to act up. I was thinking of just reflashing cm7 with a fresh start, however gingerbread is very outdated.
So because this is not my phone, I do not have the time to test ROM/kernel combos like I do on my nexus. That is why I am simply asking for suggestions from my fellow xda members.
I am looking for a aosp jelly bean ROM (if not ICS). I need this ROM to be stable (FFC and 4g borked not a big deal) but must have MMS and video recording. From what I can tell, these are the most common issues.
So please give me some suggestions of something I can flash on her phone without biting off my head. I would greatly appreciate it.
I was also curious about theatest and greatest kernel since timat is way outdated, however I will save that for a further question because trollers get mad.
Posts like this are against the "rules" because it could cause issues between devs or members trying to say who is better or what not.
Your best bet is to use search or go read op's of the 10 or so ICS roms.
SFM Blazin Fast Reloaded OG Evo.

I would suggest that you try them and make up your own mind on what you consider stable and usable. Everyone has their own opinions.
I would also suggest that you read the rules and realize that these threads are not allowed based on the reasons made above.

As of now I own a Samsung Galaxy II (Hercules) rooted with a custom ROM with my own personal theme for it. I also own a 10.1" Toshiba Thrive tablet (great device) also rooted with a custom ROM and with my own personal theme. I pretty much know whats up and I understand that I better read, read, and READ before I ask that universal anoying question "What's the best ROM for my device"....BUT if there is things I need to know about this device that wont be really out there for me to read in plain view then I would appreciate any input from you people. Thx ahead and I look forward to checking out all the goodies

Here's as great thread with a ton of info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711125
Its pretty much going to give you all the info you need.
If you want something rock solid stable and everything works check out Relix flex reaper ICS ROM (probably ideal for a youngster). Set and forget it. I also recommend linuxsociety's twrp 2.2.2.1 recovery (relix already has his kernel). He implemented some tweaks to help prevent bricking.

THX Ro. I will start there.
Yw. There are a few updates since that thread was written, most can be found in the dev section. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

I wouldn't call flex rock solid by far.
It as well as any cm9 based ROM have all kinds of app compatability issues. Which i don't find on CM10. Seeing as how it is for a child, they will want games, which is soley what i use my tab for. Streaming video as well.
Save yourself the headache and just flash CM10.

As of right now I still haven't checked out what ROMs are avialable for the A100. Im a fan of original-source-based ROMs so any CM based ROMs I wont be checking out unless there are issues with the before mentioned ROMs. Thx for the recomendation though! I got lots to read I know.

If by original source you mean factory, then its AOSP. CM is as based on AOSP as stock roms. Mods that devs do to CM pulls it further from its AOSP base, and is usually where the bugs come up.
Entirely up to you of course, but I wouldn't discount CM10 so easily, its been rock solid for me since source dropped and I started building my ROMs, your A100 will never feel faster. I'd be hard pressed to say any stock based ROM is more stable then cm10, and they are for sure not as fast or smooth. Just my opinion, but keep an open mind.

By original source based I meant the latest stock released by Acer for the A100. Sorry I might it said it wrong and I could see why "original" should of meant AOSP. Trust me Im gonna check a few out cuz I wanna settle with the one with least bugs no matter how tweaked it is for the fact that Im not going to be the one using it all the time.

I agree cm10 is a very nice ROM. It is what I am using now. I recommended relix due to its out of box reliability. I have some app issues on cm that are not apparent on ics, so it is all user/app dependent. Cm10 does have its bugs, but it is the latest, greatest and quickest, which is what most of us power users want.
I definitely recommend checking them both out.
I'm saying CM10 over any ICS because i am a heavy gamer on my tablet. I figured a child is going to be more interested in games than anything else.
If thats the case, nearly half my games crash on any ICS /CM9 ROM I have tried, even Acer stock.
Using CM10, I would say maybe 3 out of like 40-50 games, don't play.
ICS/CM9...half of these games crash.

So I've been reading alot. I'm really disappointed on what I've read about the A100 in terms of hardware (battery, screen responsiveness, that scary emmc bug). I'm starting to regret I ordered in the first place but it was a good deal. A while back I had read good reviews on the A500 and I thought the A100 would be no different. Oh well I really don't want to turn back now. I'll just hope for the best and hopefully I won't run into any issues that will disappoint my lil one with her Xmas gift.
As for what ROM to install, it boiled down to the two mentioned in this thread. I said before that I prefer ROMs based on the official release for that specific device (Flex Reaper I believe) just cuz I always felt it would be the most stable since it was made for that device itself. Now I keep reading that alot of you prefer CM10 but I'm not sure if it is because IT IS more stable (as in everything in the A100 that suppose to work, WORKS) or its just cuz its Jelly Bean (the newest n greatest thing) and its more customizable than ICS. I prefer for everything that suppose to work...to work. I don't like flashing a new ROMs just cuz its the newest thing out there but lets say "bluetooth" its not working as good as the ROM I had before (YES I'm still on GB on my SGSII cuz the ROM its rock solid and EVERYTHING WORKS!). Now knowing that I'm gonna give this to my 8 year old daughter, I needed to be as stable as possible. If I could get some honest opinion between these two ROMs based on what I said I would be really thankful from you great people. THX ahead!!
If you are worried about the emmc bug. Your best defense is linuxsociety's kernel in the dev section, and his twrp 2.2.2.1 recovery. He has implemented changes that could prevent the bricking. If you bought the tablet new and you get a brick, they will warranty it, just make sure you keep your serial number safe. With these bricks they can't tell or don't care about the flashing ROMs.
Seems everyones given their opinions bub.
Make a decision already. Lol

It took me 3 days to make that choice out of box. lol
Never looked back or regretted it, and hopefully the emmc protection measures work!
So I think Im gonna go with Flex Reaper (please don't shoot me Jackyl ). I gotta ICS theme for my Thrive that Im gonna try to port it to this but in turquoise since its my lil mamas favorite color...hopefully everything will be ok. Thank all yall for your support...Ima shut up and start flashing .
