Hey,
I was just wondering if anyone was going to port sense for the epic now that the source code is out.
Thanks
I second this, I really want a sense port for the Epic, that would be awesome!!!!
Third here. I'd Never used a Sense UI before but i would love to try it. Looks cool
Fourth here
sent from my Epic 4G
lol, this is turning out to be a request thread. any more people requesting this?
The group of devs who were already in the process of porting sense to the Epic should have a much easier time, if I remember right they were going by Galaxy SENSE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826144
Galaxy Sense, not common sense, lol
Here is the link to the one I found. I hope they continue the project because sense on this device would be just plain awesome!!!!
Yes, it would be hella nice of someone to port the mytouch 4g rom to the epic too
I'd like to have Sense on my phone, as long as the widgets came with it.
im not from this forum but i really want an epic, so ive been watching. But back to my point, why to try to get the evo shift rom? just cuz its 2.2 i think, and already has kb support? is it cuz its sooo much smaller than the epic? sorry if i seem like a super noob lol
Because the Evo shift has nothing in common with the Epic from a hardware standpoint (Different processor, antenna, etc.), it would be like trying to mix Lego's and Mega Blocks
Hmmmm... which Sense ROM would be easiest to port then?????? No HTC Devices have the Hummingbird processor and totally different specs, maybe a Desire Z ROM or something similiar would be good
Everyone was saying when the froyo source came out....
sent from my Epic 4G
They didn't say the next day after, these things take time
do any developers want to partake in this project?
This would be a major achievement for the epic.
Thanks
my opinion, why do u want sense? Its slow on all the incredibles on custom roms and evos, Why not be more creative and use launcher pro and customize everything!
Sense and touchwiz= Bloatware!!
it is not that much slower
Its not slow at al, in fact I see no lag in sense or touchwiz roms. I've never had to wait for an application to open or ever experienced force closes. Sense is highly embedded, from widgets to applications and offers a great user friendly ui. And there's no harm done porting sense, its not like people who don't want it have to use it. You know what I mean?
Should I try requesting this in the development form? Or keep it here till a dev sees? Lol sorry if I'm annoying anyone, I really want to see a sense port
DO NOT REQUEST this in the dev forum, there is already a group working on it and nagging them won't make it happen faster, patience is a virtue.
Ok thanks, but I just want to confirm:
there really is a team already working on porting sense? Sweet!!!
Hello,
I was just wondering when 4g was going to be fixed for sense 2.0 Roms
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 4g speed determined by the network. I don't think sense has anything to do with it. Sprint and Clearwire just need to step up their game. WHo knows when that will happen wipespread. Hopefully rumors of lightsquared come true.
No, I'm talking about sense 2.0 ROMS that have no 4g, when will it be fixed. Like this rom, it has no 4g because it is from a GSM Device:

oh...I knew that But I read somewhere that (maybe miui thread) that they are holding off until gingerbread in a few weeks to begin working on 4g. Although that aosp im sure the same applies to sense.

I haven't heard any new news on implementing 4g into Sense 2.0 roms. I keep checking every now and then, but no 4g yet. I'm sure its a difficult task, to get 4g to work on a port, that had no 4g to start with. As soon as it works, ill be all over the z roms.

we will have gingersense roms soon, won't need to add it to a z/hd port

I can't wait for gingersense, and hope it is indeed soon! Can't imagine how tough that project must be..
when the E3D comes out there will be a port to the evo, gingersense plus 4g. its gonna be sick
Obviously the best option is for a Sense 2.0 ROM to be officially released for the Evo. We don't know if that will happen.
The next best option is the Evo 3D, as NewZJ mentioned. It will have 4G built in, though we don't know if it will "just work" or pose challenges. There could be some differences in chipsets or other differences between the devices that make porting more difficult, or in the worst case even impossible. But I would expect that they'll get it working.
Failing either of those, it's very challenging. Yes, CM got it, but it's based on open source code. They had to reverse engineer the 4G code, but once they did, they could just add it into CM at the source level. It'd be much more challenging to get it to work when we don't have all the source for a Sense ROM. Still, it could be possible.
One more thing..."fixed" isn't the right word. "Added" would be better. Fixed implies that the developers did something wrong in some way. They ported a ROM that simply doesn't have WiMax as a feature. It's not there, so they didn't "break" anything. Yes, compared to another Sense 1.0 ROM, it doesn't work, but it's not really the right way to look at it.

The Sense 2.0 roms were not made for devices with 4G capabilities. As my friend k2buckley stated, devs ported Sense 2.0 over to Sense 1.0 devices like our EVO 4G. With that in mind, 4G is not broke and thus, there is no need to "fix" anything. What they are trying to do is figure out a way to give Sense 2.0 the ability to use our device's 4G capabilities and that will take some time. Be patient, my friend. Many of the devs have other jobs, families and other commitments.

Dear Admins
Why locking every new Sense 3.0 ROM thread? (Spare Honeysense 3D)
I am really worried about the spirit of competition for Sense 3.0 development on DHD... Every new Sense 3.0 ROM being posted get locked within a day or so.
This is unhealthy practice and I would think it has dire consequences regarding pushing Sense 3.0 forward on our device.
There must be some other way to settle arguments other than doing it this way in public.
I have no hard-feelings towards any of the Devs involved in this matter, but it is getting way too much now.
I hope we can keep XDA forums a pleasant and civilized place for all Devs (like it is meant to be). After all, it is an open source OS and no one has rights to claim any part of the software spare HTC and Google Devs imho.
Cheers

I think it's because of people using virtuous unity as a base without their permission. There aren't many devs that can port and resize a stock Sensation etc. rom to the DHD, so that's why almost every new Sense 3.0 rom is based on a already existing port. If people made their own roms from scratch it would be ok as it would bring some diversity. Now all new sense 3.0 roms are practically the same as there can't be any huge differences if the devs don't know how to use the m10 tools for example.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't all MIUI and Cyanogenmod custom ports are based on the original Rom with some tweaks? Why Sense 3 needs to be different...
I never saw an MIUI or Cyanogenmod custom ROM being locked for this reason.
If you have a good base that you can just simply tweak for better performance/custom looks, wouldn't that make devs lives easier and get us more choices to Flash? Of course I cannot expect someone to take a base without mentioning the original dev/team who cooked it and giving them proper credit for their work. But still mentioning them in credits should be enough imho. And still people have the choice to flash whatever they want.
Cheers

My main point is the last sentence in my previous post. There isn't much tweaking you can do as a dev if you don't know how to work with the rom in the first place. If someone wants to modify the looks of a rom they could just release a theme. There's just too little being added to these new roms that someone could be able to call it their own imo and then there's the permission part...

I tried just about every ROM for my inspire and I decided to keep Honey3d.. after trying just about every sense 3.0 ROM, I believe that each one had its own touch. They look very similar but some just had a different style or look. Personally there was a big enough difference between them all to meet everyone's different styles.
If your worried about them all looking the same, take a look at some of the other ROMs out there too. Many of them look close to a bunch of the other ROMs.
Overall I don't really understand the locking on the 3.0 threads. I really hope I get to keep using Honey3D.. I don't really want to change to anything else

I am looking at playing around with porting a sense 3 ROM to this device (Inc 2), mainly for personal use and to see if I have the patience. Does any DEV out there with porting experience have any recommendation on what ROM would be the best to start with?
I would imagine a wvga cdma ROM, but that seriously limits the selection?
Thanks in advance

from a straight, getting it to boot and being fairly functional perspective...anything already on the inc s is usually a good bet as there the least amount of changes/edits...granted these are "ports of ports" so there are more quirks..but if you are just doing it for yourself functionality > everything else
but there arent really any (or many) wvga cdma devices you would want to port from...inc1 and rhyme is really it...bolt is lte/cdma and a mess (also only sense 2.1 anyway)
but gsm to cdma isnt really that bad (just some quirks in things like sys ui will call on evdo rather than 3g icons etc)
best devices to port from are desire hd, infuse 4g, runnymede, rhyme, desire, desire s, inc 1...to a lesser degree evo, evo shift, mt4g slide
really if you want an untainted base, try and track down the RUU of what you want to port (its not hard to capture the rom zip and run it through dsxidia's kitchen to get a base to work with)
ive been equal parts enjoying/wanting to pull my hair out with rom ports...its very easy to get them to 75/80% functional, but then taking them to the finish line is another thing...the bliss/mede port i have out was the first i could push closer to complete and felt confident enough to put out and attempt to support
although for the heck of it i started on the latest desire s sense 3 ota and made a 95% functional rom out of it (just camera wouldnt work with ffc...but sense 2.1 camera worked perfect)...so i may end up putting that out..just cuz

it can take a while (i still dont know what im looking at a good portion of the time) to get used to

That's borderline impossible. Completely different framework and kernels. There is a team working on bringing sense to Samsung, sense4all,I believe. Its not something the average person can manage to do.

not necessarly true a new kernel would have to be created but not impossible if htc devices can get touchwiz booting the s3 def can have sense booting 2 sense4all was successfully created for the galaxy s3 international problem is thats a completly diffrent hardware then the sgh i747 im really looking forward to the deving on this device its nice and powerfull and i hope that more people get on the dev scene on this

Yes a new kernel would be needed. The difference in the sense based stuff in an htc kernel does not directly work with a Samsung device of the same processors. The ram disk needs to be modified, correct drivers would either need to be made or modded, that's just for the basics. I'm not including adding in the camera, sound, radio, touchscreen etc stuff. Those a specific to each different device with the newer versions of android now of days.
I can't just directly port over a touchwiz ROM an drop it on my phone, so much work goes into it. If you do get the kernel built correctly, more problems arise. Gotta rework the framework to match the Samsung phone, including HTC's framework among other HTC specific files.
What HTC phone has a full booting touchwiz rom?
Not to mention a lot of Sense drivers are closed source and proprietary.

That video doesn't prove that is a full touchwiz Rom. Then your link is only for the launcher, yet again that doesn't prove anything at all. The Rom is just a stripped out sense Rom(ie senseless)with touchwiz launcher an possibly ui. It's not a full touchwiz rom.

sir my question was simply why can they bring our UI to them and we cannot port anything to our devices besides Aosp and Aokp and miui they have ports of our UI why not port there UI ? they stripped sense and got a Touchwiz Ui on top of it why don't we start with an Aosp or AOkp and throw in a Sense UI im not here to argue about getting a full rom my question was hey can we get some sense on our phones and thanks for all the help ive never had a moderator actually reply to my questions its good to have an active moderator on a forum props to you sir

The ui alone is possible but not very sure how stable it'll be though. Probably the main reason nobody has done is: 1. They just don't care about sense. 2. There no demand for sense on the device or 3.nobody thought of it yet?

The level of activity in development in this particular forum is relatively low although the devs have come up with some pretty genius things I will start this venture and if I am able to get a beta launcher application of sense ui. I will post in the development for testing and see how well it'll catch on I'm not much of a dev. But will give it a shot.
