Hmmm, what are you planning to do with the SD Card ?
Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are organobromide compounds that have an inhibitory effect on the ignition of combustible organic materials. Of the commercialized chemical flame retardants, the brominated variety are most widely used. They are very effective in plastics and textile applications, e.g. electronics, clothes and furniture. BFRs are commonly used in electronic products as a means of reducing the flammability of the product.
LMAO!!
LOL Or did you mean how to make a Bridge Farm Riding School?

i want to make btrfs partition )
Why? What needs it? Custom ROMs need an EXT partition
You can make one using Gparted btw.

i think its faster than ext or reiserfs
Only if the ROM you want to use supports it. If not it's a pointless partition

But it is less stable which is why people have moved to ext4.

I can't believe that I would be the only one superficial enough to want this......are there any developers who would care to waste their time developing an app like this for windows mobile?

yeah, i still have a case of that somewhere.

I wonder.. if the Apple store created a "Useless Crap" category, how many apps would be there? 90%?

I've been kind of baffled at how terribly Android handles the file organization on SD cards. It seems totally crazy to me that it dumps everything into the root of the sd card, instead of putting all of the apps, folders, and temp files into a single parent folder (/sdcard/android/* for example). There has to be some way to deal with this, especially considering that Android OS it's a biproduct of a company who's entire business model is built around efficiency and streamlining information.
So my question is this: does anyone have any idea how to deal with this? I've done some Googling but haven't really found much.
Thanks in advance!
(I'm rooted and running MIUI 12.11 on an ADR6300.)
*** er, organization ***

I too have wondered the same thing. The best thing I have found to do is reformat it and start from scratch. A lot of different programs seem to make their own folders. Coming from windows mobile where everything is organized via things like "programs files" sucks but id definenlty take android over all
agreed. i came from ios jailbreak world - even there things are more organized. best way to liken this is:
iphone = lexus - user friendly, everything works but it wont give you great thrills. even if you jailbreak it, virtually impossible to brick. there is always a way out.
android = mercedes - designed by engineers for engineers, a whole lotta fun if you know what you are doing but extremely inelegant UI or organization inside the guts. you can hurt yourself bad if you make a mistake i.e. brick it.
I like it.. Good analogy.

Reformatting? What kind of stuff sites that erase? I myself have been noticing the sd card is a bit messy, but it seems like reformatting would erase app data that us kinda important.

Good analogy indeed.
That's kind of a bust though. I came from ios jailbreaking as well, and I had high hopes for a more cognitive file system from Android. Needless to say, I was more than let down.
I still feel like there has to be a setting or string of settings somewhere (at least on a binary level) that could be changed to send everything to mnt/sdcard/Android instead of just mnt/sdcard. Something has to tell it where the sd location is.

thanks guys! the people on these forums can be quite rabid about android and i was worried I might be told off. The truth is that despite the more chaotic way things happen in android I still prefer it to iOS. There is certainly more tinkering to be done in android and certainly a bigger unofficial dev community who can tweak it. However, one of my observations is that most android dev work here tends to be a lot more individualistic expressions (and funnily most of them are still quite similar) rather than concerted teamwork of the iphone dev team type barring a few exceptions - MIUI, cyanogen come to mind.
I wish the devs would collaborate with each other a lot more than they do. then there could be specialization on various aspects and we would truly see the advantages of open source code.
I feel all of y'all. It really is the lesser of two evils; the file system. Give a little, get a little.

I've formatted my SD card before without any dire consequences. As soon as I put the completely empty card back in that whole "preparing SD Card" message appears, and you get the typical android folders back in there. I did that because I've wiped my phone when flashing a new ROM and there were app folders on there for apps that I never put back on the phone. It was just part of my slight neurosis towards organization.
what I do is just ignore the root of the sdcard as much as possible. I have a directory in the root named my name( like "users/username") and I use astro and make that the default location. I have music, videos... folders there and that is where I keep all my stuff.
You could probably make symlinks from there out to your picture and download folders and never really have to leave it to get your stuff?
Smart solution. Thanks!!

New to flashing roms etc...should i flash a new kernal first or do i flash the rom i want and then flash the kernal...or does it matter?
Always flash the rom, wipe cache and dalvik, then the kernel.
ROM first. Also Rom's come with their own kernel so you don't have really have to flash any kernel.

And to answer your other question; it is always the chicken. The chicken is known to have evolved from the [insert whatever the effin scientific name is], thus, obviously, coming first. While it is unclear whether or not the chicken originally produced eggs or live offspring, it's obviously a fact that it does now. Obviously. Some argue the 'chicken' is an offspring /off-branching offspring, spring, of another ground based bird /fowl - much like the common alligator / crocodile is but a close relative of its prehistoric bretheren.
Still poses an interesting question of life and how we have come to be. Or, ALIENA. Which would be Latin, scientfic name, of ALIENS. By that, I mean, aliens are why.

To add to that, the chicken would have to come first, because its a mammal, and mammals learn by emulating the parent.

OK, so I have a KIN and the goal of this forum is to put android on the phone. But, even if we do what is going to replace the home, menu search, and back buttons? Maybe we could put iOS. But anyway, some person said there's 2 storages. The ROM and the 8gb storage. The ROM is locked to prevent modifying. So, why not try to disable the ROM and put Android on the 8gb, instead of trying to flash it? This forum should be merged with the windows phone seven for better eposure and a bigger community willing to help.
As you'r starting posting, i will be soft.
We cannot write on the 8gb storage for files at will, so not writable for now, ok?.
And personally, would stay with the crappy Kin OS before putting iOS there.
Okay I'm not trying to be a douche but the main purpose is not to just put android on the kin. The main purpose of this forum is to get it hacked period. As for the iOS, no that would suck horribly. iPhone sucks. Apple doesnt deserve to be on a "windows" phone. I myself think that the purpose of these forums is just to get it hacked. Maybe add some feature but not android. Android will take time.
No Drivers, all said above
Ok, I understand. iOS would not be the best OS. But, seriously, this forum is not getting a lot of posts. Maybe we could make a 'general' forum for all things that relate to the windows phone. As I said above, there would be more posters. And heres my list of ideas and priorities for the KIN.
1. An appstore/marketplace (could call it XDA market and could be apps by XDA developers)
2. Flash another OS ( depends if people want it or not. Possible OSs could be Windows Phone 7, Android, or just leave it be)
3. More customability ( different color schemes, more pages of tiles/icons, etc.)
4. Ability to transfer contacts.

Please read the forums before posting. Your ideas have all been thought of and are being worked on.
No access to the storage and a lack of an SDK means no homebrew apps/marketplace.
We've tried flashing the device and we could possibly put CFW on using SPST but we lack a ROM and it seems dumping the device is not possible.
Customization options would be something found in a CFW.

OK, it was just a list of my ideas. Anyway, would it be possible to open up the KIN and play around with the motherboard and storage and stuff? I know that to Jtag an Xbox you got to open it and solder some resistors and diodes. Would it be possible to do something similar to the KIN?

I can not recommended hard-modding the device in any way unless you have previous knowledge or have completed both Intro to Electronics and Advanced Electronics classes or their equivalents. With that said what would we be playing with? Take the storage and attempt to access it without the device?

what if instead of dumping the OS, we simply swap out the internal memory with the OS on it? we could probably find a chip about the same size as the one already in the Kin. It would be like switching out your main HDD on a computer, however we would have to create our own drivers first.

I don't think it would kill your phone, de-soldering is easy enough and re-soldering is not that difficult either. But, I guess no one would really want to try something like this anyways. Damn you, Microsoft.
Actualkly Ive been thinking. I have taken apart another phone roughly the same size and shape as the kin twom and it has a chip the same size and shape as the KIN (this phone was an HTC). This might actually work! If we have a way of tying the new chip with the kin motherboard and adjusting the files and software on the chip so they work with the Kin it would work! This might actually be possable.
if you really want to pursue the idea of sodering.. idk if it works but hey if you can more power to you there is a tear down of the kin somewhere on here

correction normal soldering isn't that difficult but these are surface mount chips which use a different process generally involving dipping the whole board into a vat of solder with the areas not being soldered covered in something, in the end very tricky to mess with not to mention the boards are customized for these chips
i will sum it as "no". kin is hard enough to handle, not even think about getting desoldering & soldering people who know how to code for the new chips, then discover then soldering again and test on the normal not-hacked kin devices.
....

I don't wear glasses so I think I would find them distracting and cumbersome. Also, I think it would do more to separate people.
Also, while on the subject of google products, could some of you confirm that there are actually people somewhere who use any of the google products besides maps or mail? Thanks

Yes, I would actually wear them around. Maybe not all the time, but not just occasionally. Although I'm looking forward to them developing to the point where they can integrate to a pair of "normal" glasses.

I think it's a logical progression from slow information through to instantaneous information (letter->phone->mobile phone/internet->bluetooth/video calling->lightweight wearable visual interfaces->cochlear/optic implants). Whether people like it or not, having more information available faster is highly desirable. As it becomes possible, it is inevitable.

This is true, although this is not a new idea. In some situations, wearable computers with visual interfaces mounted on a "goggle" or "glasses" setup have been accepted for decades. As the technology becomes cheaper and more accessible, it will become more socially accepted. Just think about how acceptable it is now to talk to yourself like a crazy person on the street, now that bluetooth headsets are affordable, easy to use, and common.
And wearing glasses isn't cumbersome or distracting. Just like wearing clothing isn't cumbersome or distracting (well, some clothing). Humans are very adaptable.
