Am I the only one Superficial enough to want this for WinMo? - Windows Mobile Software Development

I can't believe that I would be the only one superficial enough to want this......are there any developers who would care to waste their time developing an app like this for windows mobile?

Please tell me you are taking the urine, oh, I do so hope you are. Mind you, never underestimate the gullibility of the "huddled masses" - I remember back in the 70's, someone made a fortune selling dehydrated water during the whole camping fad.

yeah, i still have a case of that somewhere.

Yes u are the only one! lol

Its a really good con, simple app, unprovable results!

I wonder.. if the Apple store created a "Useless Crap" category, how many apps would be there? 90%?

REQ: Tipulator

Hi has anyone seen the Iphone ad running in the UK at the moment which has a handy app on it called the tipulator.
This is a simple calculator in which you type in the total amount of your restaurant bill then how much in percentage how much you want to tip then choose how many people you want to split the bill between and it tells you what each person has to pay.
I'm sure this would be pretty simple to build on the WM platform - has anyone seen anything like this?
Ye I second that. Would be a good idea.
I just use me brain. Time I got the HD app to do it, I'd have figured it out in my head!!
Just wondering if you even searched on Google? Because in less than 2 minutes i found these.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-tips-calculator-v1-0.html
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-tip-calculator-and-bill-splitter-1-0.html
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-simple-tip-calculator-v1-0.html
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-tip-pro-v1-0.html
Or just the normal calculator...
Hmmm sounds like another excuse for iPhone owners to get their phone out and bore people stupid with how wonderful they think its is... the resturant as well as the pub now...
I'll stick to me head.... probably good but how difficault is 10%?

wow - you need a special application to calculate total bill x 1.1 / people? What's wrong with the calculator?
I knew iPhone users can't think for themselves but we're supposed to be the smart ones.

Some people are obviously very lazy...
there is an iphone app for absolutely everything , and most of it is pointless, like the spirit level which is actually just the gsensor calibrate screen on the touch hd , there may be apps but good quality apps is what matters so let them have there mass load of rubbish, once we get a few 3d games we'll be laughin
We have freekin excel in our pockets you can calculate almost anything!
F Me! You are a miserable bunch of b*stards
I think its a pretty good idea. There are plenty of people out there who do not know how to reprogram a WM phone. Sory I'll rephrase - not SAD enough to know how to reprogram a WM phone!
So a neat little app like the tipulator is probably quite appealing.
"Oh we can't have that *geeky chortle chortle* why can't you write a few formulae in MS pocket excel" - Jeez, give me strength!
If I went out for a meal with a group of people and someone used excel to calculate the split, I'd think they were a complete tosser, and tell them so.
But then most of you aren't old enough to go into a pub let alone go out for a meal and not have your parents pay for it.
So I'll "third" the proposal.
stop making waves!
of course i am not expecting from someone that is preaching us about laziness to bother and make a search so i did and found in less than 15 seconds this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499829&highlight=tip+calculator
see, i used the search button and made the great effort of typing 2 words: tip calculator. well, i'll do anything for a little peace and order in this forum

Firstly if your asking for help then ask for it don't assault the people who could be programming this for you!
Secondly excel does exactly what you want it to do, if your too stupid to write a simple percentage calculation then your too thick to own a WM phone!
Thirdly I'm a comfortable programmer, I do it as part of my job, but I do have a life, I'm surrounded by good, intelligible friends, I enjoy power kiting and surfing, I probably have a much better life than you!
Fourthly if you think someone's a tosser for using a WM application (Excel) to calculate the tip then you MUST think they would be a tosser for using an identical application that someone's put on their device but with pretty pictures so rambling buttock scrapings like yourselve can use it without confusion!
Finally learn to use the search facillity it's really very simple, I also hear Google do these searches aswell!
So don't sign up to a developer forum calling all the developers misserable Bas*ards!
Don't retalliate with a barrage of insults when people try to help you!
And don't post without searching!
Oh yeh and I'm 22 more than old enough to drink in this country!
Just realised hurst didn't start this, sorry to the thread starter and hurst you're a gimp!
@joey
don't feed the troll! an undeserved effort to try and explain something to "his kind".
he doesn't know to use google and u are asking him to use excel??!! imagine asking him to make the calculation using his head....lol! another rude a..s hole!
did you guys miss my post in the previous page? I posted a bunch of tip programs.
I dont think anyone really wants a "tipulator" cos its useless. More useful would be the bill splitting thing that they showed on the iphone advert. I know its another thing from the iphone n stuff....but that is actually gd unlike half the apps from the apple store.
Has anyone got anything like that already? if yes then pls share with us!

Does MS get it ?? WP7

http://twitter.com/ckindel
Tweets:
"This author gets it: It's a challenge. Are we up for it? I think we are. Let us know if I'm right after MIX. http://is.gd/8WA4V "
Just maybe MS will get this right ?
From the little I know about Charlie Kindel and the brief video he did on Channel 9 I've got a good feeling that they'll nail it.
A difficult question that we won't know the answer to until MIX.
Right now, it seems like they don't get it.
They will be more than two years and 200.000 applications behind Apple when WP7 launches!
To catch up, they have to be much better. Simply copying Apple won't be enough, but it seems like that's exactly what they're trying:
Right now, they charge developers even more than Apple for access to the Marketplace.
Visual Studio, XNA, Silverlight are fine - but there's not much wrong with Apple's developer tools and both restrict the number of APIs that developers can use.
Apple has no multitasking, thus they could beat them with a great multitasking/task switching concept, like Palm's - but right now, it seems that they not only have no good concept, but might even copy Apple and have no multitasking at all.
They certainly have a few advantages, but will those be enough to catch up? I doubt it.
What makes you think that somebody needs to match the number of applications in AppStore to have an equal or greater market share?

Exactly. 139,900 of the 140,000 apps in the iPhone App store are complete ****.
@RustyGrom
Very good point.. there is clearly a point of saturation in the app market and I dont think anyone is willing to "try out" 10,000 apps (much less 100,000) to find one they need.. LOL
I just found the tweet to be rather confident... and almost teasing as to what is to come.. did peek my interest to say the least...
In addtion.. it is rather compelling to think I can be productive etc on my mobile device without installing 50 apps !

In charge of the developer ecosystem for WP7. If you want to complain about .net/XNA/Silverlight/multi-tasking/etc, he's the guy to complain to.
Ah, OK, thanks for the clarification. I think, however, that he's the wrongest guy to complain to if he's in charge of all this.

To be honest.... I dont think complaining now is going to help.. what they have designed is done... I doubt it will change significantly between now and release with respect to the development environment..
MS has traditionally had the developer environment pretty set... long before the beta/RC level.. so.. while they may have some flexibility with the primary developer environment vs more native enviroment (api's) I doubt there will be big changes..
I dont doubt there will be at least some dev upheaval .. because I doubt they will take the entire API and just hand it over..
I just have this curiosity.. that perhaps they have covered all the bases.. especially for devs... that remains to be seen...

I'm not saying people SHOULD complain, just saying that if you must, he's your target hah. Don't waste your keystrokes on here because you'll just drive all of us insane.
I don't get those developers(since I'm not a developer maybe that's why). They moan about the difficulties of developing for multiple hardware specs etc. when it comes to WP7S. Doesn't the same problem exist for Android? Many different phones with different hardware specs, yet lots of apps. Is Android magic? Is that why it's not a problem for Google?
As for the other things like developer support, maybe Microsoft actually has the ability to change. So they did a piss poor job in the past, does that mean they have to do a piss poor job for eternity?
Personally I think some of those people have a grudge against Microsoft for whatever reason. If they don't wanna develop for WP7S then that's their choice. I'm betting there are many others who will.

It's almost hysterical to me that they are making the EXACT same mistakes that Microsoft made with Windows Mobile. Yet, the tech press seems to love Android. But even they are starting to say 'WTF' when Google releases apps that are restricted to a small segment of their install base. The love affair is ending.

[Q] Soooooo... what are the chances of wm7 coming to our android devices?

The final devices just got announced, devs will probably take a swing at it, AND ive seen some wm7 dumps going around the forum. sooooo... what do you all think? i'd love to have a play with this, just like every other ZOMG-NEW-UI-I-GOTS-TO-HAVE! guy here haha

First of all, I believe the phone manufacturers still pay a fee to Google for the GApps.
Secondly, it's all about profit margins - Android is attractive to companies like HTC because they likely make more money per unit than they would if they use WP7.

5-reinstall limit on paid apps

I hope this story doesn't turn out to be true but, until it is debunked, I won't be wasting my money on anymore WP7 apps. And if it turns out to be true, I will abandon WP7 altogether...set it up as strictly a Zune audio player and be done.
There's only so much a customer can be expected to take with any product. If this story is true, MS will go way beyond that limit.
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/microsoft-you-can-install-a-wp7-app-five-times-on-a-purchase
This is a lie and has been proven as such.
The truth is:
1/. You can only install the app on 5 different phones with the same windows live ID
2/. On any of these phones, you can install the same app as many times as you want.
3/. You have a WP7, you could've tested this with one of those $0.99 apps that you don't even like anyway instead of scaring the crap out of people.
That's not true. I think the truth is that if you use the same Live ID on more than 5 phones, you need to pay again. And you can swap out 1 phone by another one every 30 days.

How you think I felt when I read the headline? I started counting off the dollars I have invested in WP7 paid apps. Then I started thinking and rationalizing the need for system hard resets. I feel like my HD7 needs an HR right now. That would put me down to 4 more HRs before my games are no longer playable.

Even so, you could have purchased a cheap ass $.99 app, installed, uninstalled and reinstalled it 5 times to see what it told you. Doing so would have taken less effort than posting your OP and it would have given you the answer you sought - that you can indeed install the app as many times as you want on upto 5 devices at a time, with the possibility of changing one of those devices out every month.
The whole "story" came about due to a erroneous French translation.

If that's not enough, perhaps you should check the original thread over at MS Answers where Camille B. has cleared up the confusion saying there was a misunderstanding and that you can install it on five phones as many times as you like - as long as the app/game is still available on the marketplace.

Only Borg type people are iphone users. Plus your supporting shady business practice.
The biggest turn off is the tiny screen. Ive also told people I couldnt deal with such a small screen.

My friend keeps nagging me about her iphone 4s and that useless siri. Post pictures or short videos to show that we are superior! I just want to win for argument's sake
Make this thread fun and amusing as possible

...Is she a barista?
sent from an e4gt hungry for some ice cream sandwich
How about the most basic of facts...just tell her, "hey, I get why you love that i-thing...who do you think made that processor and pixel-dense screen?...SAMSUNG" That's always a fun fact to throw at 'em. Good times =D

I usually don't but once in a while you'll get that smug ifan android basher that has no clue what their talking about. OP just wants a few talking points to shut them up.
Best ones:
IPhone is a smartphone for dumb people.
Tiny screen is unacceptable.
Slave to apples dictatorship on how your phone will look and operate.
Supporting a company that competes through litigation instead of innovation in a free market.
Overpriced handsets with sub par specs and quality.

I've used both platforms extensively and there are definitely strengths and weaknesses to them both. The arguments back and forth can be pretty funny especially on forums like Engadget. The statement that iPhone users are dumb though is one argument that I find ridiculous. Out of all my friends i am definitely the most tech literate. I flash roms, theme my phones, even write some applications. A lot of the people I know that use iPhones are doctors and lawyers, but don't have that much interest or the time for technology so simple is good. To think you are smarter than someone because you can switch out your launcher or overclock your phone is pretty stupid to begin with. Most of this is just effort. You are probably kidding, so not directed at you... this just always comes up in these "discussiond" especially when folks starting getting personal. Cheers.
