HOW LONG AM I SUPPOSED TO BE SAT HERE ****** ****** ROTATING MY PHONE?
I've tried the figure eight technique as well, doesn't make a squat bit of difference.
MOD EDIT: That kind of language isn't tolerated on xda...I'll be leniant with you this time since I've just started modding this forum and I'm a good mood
Same here. It took me like five times until it turned green. Hold it straight up and down, and press calibrate, and slowly flip it around from top to bottom, and then rotate it side to side. You don't actually have to flip it all the way around in a circle. Just about 3/4 the way back and forth. If you go too fast it will turn red. The trick is to go slow and smooth (like when you are with your girl!)

Go on, admit it, you didn't press the button to start the calibration process and were just looking at the demo animation.
It's ok, I did exactly the same thing
Had the same that happen and felt pretty stupid sitting that flipping and rotating a phone for...*ahem*...to long. It seems that once it turns red, there is no going back. Exit, restart, and try again more slowly.
My experience with it is that if it doesn't turn green in the 1st 10 seconds...it ain't gonna.

Ahhh.. The dumb thing says to turn it 'slowly' so I figured I had to be patient with the damn thing. Turns out that what's needed is to flick it around like a spastic for a second or two. Couldn't they SAY SO then instead of lying? <-edit..
And to the rest, while the animation confused me at first I had actually gotten past that stage when I made this thread.
edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP3d00Hr14o this worked a couple of times earlier today - however, refuses to work now. nothing. i give up on this - I am now etching 'compass' away from the feature list of the phone. It might as well say 'utterly pointless, useless magnet'.

Guilty as charged. I felt very stupid
Yep I was dope as well took me about 10 minutes before I figured it out.
Still pissing me off. I'm just glad the phone is rugged and waterproof.. Not gonna say anything more...
Well, I never had the green icon but my compass is really, really accurate.
Yesterday it thought north was west, today north was south.
I've given up too, always turns red!
Whether i go slow, or fast, i am still unable to get this to show up in green... maybe someone could post movie with working calibration?
Mine went first red and when I just continued it turned to green. So no need to restart when the sign goes red.
Mine has never turned green, but its still pretty accurate.
i just calibrated the compass of my defy and it works now. red means one axis done, two to go. yellow the second axis and when all is done, it turms green. It took ca 45 seconds.

ok so i searched on the sites for a fading to a white screen problem but it looks like its related to the dpad... my phone was really low on battery last night it kept beeping continuously... so by the time i got to plug it in the screen started to fade to white... now the screen has vslight vertical lines and every time i shut off the phone with the power button and turn it on it comes normal but as soon as u touch the screen it fades to white!!! was this caused by the low battery. i fully charged it but still have the same prob. i tried clearing my storage and that didn't help..what do i do?
white screen
you will need to replace the board for the dpad.
ok thanks. is this the same issue that others are having as well? the wierd thing is half the time it works the other half it doesnt...
I had a similar problem. I had pressed the power button to check the time and screen was white! SR rebooted and after the first splash screen the screen faded to white. I finally founded a product called Pocket Controller http://www.soti.net/ (trial ver works fine) that allowed me to see my phone on my computer. I was then able to backup my data to the storage card. I reflashed the phone and it’s worked fine afterwards.
yeah man thats what happened to me exactly... im reflashing the official wm6 rom now... ill post what happens... thanks

damn it didnt work with me my screen still goes in and out when it chooses to. and it is my dpad b/c it stops working when the screen is gonna go..
Hi,
Try tightening the screw behind the red hang up button on the dpad. There is a component behind there which causes this problem. If tightening doesn't work try loosening. It's all to do with the pressure on the chip. Very odd problem.
Also try squeezing the bottom right hand corner of the phone and SR.
Bonkers solution for a bonkers problem but it certainly fixed one of mine.
Good luck!
yes, the screw tightening/unloosing thing works for me. same thing happened when i dropped my unit. i even completely dismantled it (managed to fix the microsd card spring). something loose with the connections.
niec guys thanks... i will try the tightening and loosening the screw... i tried holding down the bottom right and SR didn't work but thanks anway... i guess i have to buy a screw driver to open this thing up... god i remember when i had to take apart my mpx 220 im getting flashbacks!!!
Had exactly the same problem but mine was due to an phone shop employee dropping it. It would do exactly the same as yours. Sometimes it would work fine and once when I reflashed it the problem went away for a few days but if came back.
I used to control it using Soti pocket controller but them migrated to Net Support as that allowed me to control over wifi. In the end had to get it replaced.
I got my hermes from my friend, (HTC X01HT), she didnt want it because she dropped it and the ringer didnt work. it had only gotten unplugged, so i opened it, plugged it in, and had an awesome phone.
I dont think this is normal, but from the time she gave it to me, the screen made an awful highpitched ringing noise, (very uni-directional, it was weird).
Anyways...
now, the screen is just white. for a little while i could get the screen back, just by opening and closing the slider and hitting the power button a couple times.
Sometimes the today would display, then it would jarble up a little bit then fade to white, but i cant even get it to do that anymore.
Anyone else seen this issue? i'd hate to get rid of a perfectly awesome phone.
Thanks!
(also, if someone could post a picture of the device locked screen, where you have to enter a PIN to use the phone, that would be great, im trying to get into the phone with activesync, but its locked, and i dont know where to push the buttons.)
thanks!
~Mix3d
Looks like the screen is unplugged, really. Maybe you need to disassemble further, like http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_hermes/ shows?
keep in mind, it worked fine for almost three weeks before the screen issue started... but i will try that when i get my hands on a small flathead again.
There's a whitescreen & D-Pad failure issue that can be caused by many things, including DROPPING the phone.
I wrote a guide about it which seems to be quite successful for many people.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321163
so after trying a hard-reset, (which somehow displayed on teh screen), and clicking no, i was able to get the screen back... only this time with the moved screen problem, wrapping around at the top about 1mm.... and the buttons didnt work.
i tried your guide, but now im stuck at the white screen again... :/

Im having the same issue..weird!
Well known issue with CWR. Koush said its not high on his priorities. You could download the source and try to figure it out though.
hmmm, ok. im not an expert with doing things from source. somone else maybe, with more skills?
It's an issue when the charger is plugged in. It should shut down fine if you haven't got the charger connected.
there is nothing wrong with being in recovery while charging -- uses very very very little power and when your ready to turn on the phone, you just hit reboot and your done. Or maybe you want to clear cache before you boot? or maybe you want to backup before you boot or maybe you wanted to fix permissions before you boot? i mean -- its actually a blessing in disguise. I would be more annoyed if this was an issue with the G1 because it was so easy to get to recovery as it was (power and back button) whereas with the g2 if you wanted to get to recovery you'd have to either use adb or its PC counterparts, a reboot app in the rom, or by booting into fastboot and then 3 more steps after that to get to recovery.
its like living next door to the convenience store, bank, grocery store, and the massage parlor. one stop shoppin -- no hard trudging around to get places.
it is a benefit... yes its a bug...(a bug with benefits heh) but frankly i've put in a request that if koush updates recovery i want to be able to "keep" this bug.

Talking about the screen?
Hold the back button. On my Pulse it turns the screen off. Or totally black, I can't remember.
Better yet, turn it upside down.
Or, leave it switched on.

First time I discovered this bug I was about 9 hours late. I grabbed my hot ass phone n unplugged. I put it infront of the ac vent so it could cool down. After about ten minutes I powered up n the setcpu widget told me the phone was at 120 something degrees.
Needless to say my first g2 never ran right after words. Too many random reboots n odd graphical glitches.
I unrooted and cried bad hinges so tmobile would replace it.
Damn shame its not on his priorities list...
Title says all. I was just chillin' listening to some music (Let's Get It to be exact) and when I pressed my power button to check and see how fast the WiFi reconnects, I swiped up and nothing happened. It was like that for about a minute or two, the volume rocker worked and I could hold down the camera button and go to the camera, but the touch screen just wouldn't work. I popped off the back and was about to remove the battery and thats when everything went back to normal...pretty odd...just a heads up.
Wifi now reconnects instantly. I am pleased
strange... not had any problems like this at all on mine yet...
Seems VERY responsive, been using it all lastnight over and over and this morning.
what phone you have? im using the mozart

Dammit, I thought I said what phone I was using...I'm on the HTC Arrive. It hasn't done it since I've posted..I highly doubt it'll happen all the time (probably won't ever happen again)..just wanted to mention it.
This happened to my arrive right as it was done updating on the screen that says the update is done...the close button wouldn't work, but I remember reading this thread so I waited it out and it started to work after like 2 min
I am having the exact problem on my HD7, only seems to occur if I am listening to music. The lock screen appears, but I cannot swipe.
Mine doesn't always come back and I have to remove the battery.
I have the same issue every once in a while. I'm not on Mango though, I'm running NoDo on a HTC Surround.
It's happened about 5 times in the last six months.
I've had the same issue since before NoDo. The quickest fix is to try turning the screen off and then on again, sometimes it takes a few attempts but it normally works.
haven't noticed on dvp or anything I wonder if its a htc thing...
I haven't noticed it, though I did get the red screen associated with changing the reg entries to get 32 bit color one.
Interesting side not, when I was updating to Mango, on one of the reboots I got the red screen and thought I was screwed, but the update process continued and on the next reboot it was normal again...

nope havnt come across this yet on my Samsung Focus. The only issue seems to be the increased boot up time(phone stays on d Samsung logo screenfor a long time) but I am quite sure its due to Samsungs crappy bootloader and besides I hardly have to reboot WP7 ever anyway
Hey, has anyone else noticed that weird icon where your signal and data icon should be?
Idk if its the new icon for no signal or what...but when I unlocked my phone, I saw an icon that looked like the copy and paste icon where my signal and data icon should be.
I must say I'm noticing this on third party apps a lot, I don't know whether it's because they are downloading data from the Internet or what but it's happening quite a bit at the moment. LG Optimus 7 btw.
Has anyone else notice that for some reason there's a lag like if the screen is off and I knock to turn on it'll take 10 seconds to turn on. Or if I have the quick circle case when I tap on the circle the little ring glows but it stays black for about 5 seconds then it shows the time. I have to turn off the phone wait a bit then turn back on. And it works fine once again anyone have any ideas?
i had to return my first G3 for a new one because the glass wasn't properly attached but before i returned it i noticed my device was warm and it had a 2-3 second delay when i would knock on, didn't really think anything of it at first, thought maby it just took along time for the cpu to fire up.
but after exchanging my G3 for a new one right away i noticed it was quite cool and fast compared to my first one AND the knock on feature on my new device is INSTANT, unlike my first one.
so i conclude my first device had some random issues right out of the box.
i would try a full power down, wait about a minute while it's off so it can static discharge then turn it back on, if that doesn't help maby try a facorty reset and if that doesn't help maby exchange it if you still can.
it's either apps/settings (factory reset to find out) or bad manufacturing like mine was.
Thank you, I'll try the factory reset hopefully that works. Otherwise I'll try to exchange
