Mango users, watch out for unresponsive touchscreen - Windows Phone 7 General

Title says all. I was just chillin' listening to some music (Let's Get It to be exact) and when I pressed my power button to check and see how fast the WiFi reconnects, I swiped up and nothing happened. It was like that for about a minute or two, the volume rocker worked and I could hold down the camera button and go to the camera, but the touch screen just wouldn't work. I popped off the back and was about to remove the battery and thats when everything went back to normal...pretty odd...just a heads up.
Wifi now reconnects instantly. I am pleased

strange... not had any problems like this at all on mine yet...
Seems VERY responsive, been using it all lastnight over and over and this morning.
what phone you have? im using the mozart

Dammit, I thought I said what phone I was using...I'm on the HTC Arrive. It hasn't done it since I've posted..I highly doubt it'll happen all the time (probably won't ever happen again)..just wanted to mention it.

This happened to my arrive right as it was done updating on the screen that says the update is done...the close button wouldn't work, but I remember reading this thread so I waited it out and it started to work after like 2 min

I am having the exact problem on my HD7, only seems to occur if I am listening to music. The lock screen appears, but I cannot swipe.
Mine doesn't always come back and I have to remove the battery.

I have the same issue every once in a while. I'm not on Mango though, I'm running NoDo on a HTC Surround.
It's happened about 5 times in the last six months.

I've had the same issue since before NoDo. The quickest fix is to try turning the screen off and then on again, sometimes it takes a few attempts but it normally works.

haven't noticed on dvp or anything I wonder if its a htc thing...

I haven't noticed it, though I did get the red screen associated with changing the reg entries to get 32 bit color one.
Interesting side not, when I was updating to Mango, on one of the reboots I got the red screen and thought I was screwed, but the update process continued and on the next reboot it was normal again...

nope havnt come across this yet on my Samsung Focus. The only issue seems to be the increased boot up time(phone stays on d Samsung logo screenfor a long time) but I am quite sure its due to Samsungs crappy bootloader and besides I hardly have to reboot WP7 ever anyway

Hey, has anyone else noticed that weird icon where your signal and data icon should be?
Idk if its the new icon for no signal or what...but when I unlocked my phone, I saw an icon that looked like the copy and paste icon where my signal and data icon should be.

I must say I'm noticing this on third party apps a lot, I don't know whether it's because they are downloading data from the Internet or what but it's happening quite a bit at the moment. LG Optimus 7 btw.

[Q] Is mine a defect or is this normal?

I bought my epic 4g touch brand new from a corporate sprint store on friday. I really really like it but there are some strange things happening with it. I'm trying to figure out if these are normal or if this is how the phone is so that I can know if I need to do a hard rest, return it and use my evo again, or just exchange it.
Here are the problems I am having.
1. Friday while driving it home from the sprint store it was in my cars console and the screen turned off. Me being nuts about it, I decided to pick it back up and turn it on to admire the screen some more and it would not turn back on. I pushed the power button over and over again but nothing! I had to pull the battery.
2. It seems like the 4g is going to sleep too fast and also even into a sleep that is too deep! (example... after about 5 seconds of not using it the 4g symbol changes to zzz once that happens its almost like my data is off completely. This is especially frustrating because my e-mail is being delayed along with notifications from apps.
3. I have gone into settings and tried to increase the amount of time it takes before my screen turns off but no matter what I put it on it still goes off in like 15 seconds.
4. When I get an incoming call the ringtone is realllllllllly low for the first 2 or 3 seconds then it gets realllllly loud. Why is there a 2 second delay?
5. This morning, while using typing out a text msg the phone just completely froze. I tried pushing the home button and also tried the power button but nothing would work. I had to pull the battery.
I forgot to add this...
6. Sometimes when using 4g the 3g icon goes away then comes back and it will say both 3g and 4g then the data connection will not work at all. (I have done prl and profile updates over and over and over and over...)
Are these normal things to happen with this phone or should I take some kind of action?
sounds like you got a lemon
I'd say those things aren't normal - especially the freezing and things.
I don't get my SGSII until Tuesday... but I can tell you I don't get those symtoms on a MyTouch 3G (528mhz thank you lol) with almost no memory running Android 2.2.
That being said, you might want to wait at least a couple days, my logic is this:
My buddy bought a Droid X when that phone came out. When he first got it, it was slow, laggy, surprising given the state of the art (at the time) hardware it had. "Must be blur!" we said. But after a few days, the phone settled down, and sped up significantly. In his case, it was because there was a lot for the phone to do on initial startup - connecting to and synching all the Blur stuff through whatever social networks, apps (I'm sure Gapps included) synching your info.
Maybe something similar with TouchWiz for the first day or three?
thanks guys. I'm gonna try a hard reset later to see if that helps. Then I will give it a few days.
I'm having the same issue with the ringtone. Quiet for 2 seconds then gets loud

#6 happens to me. When I turn on 4G 3G goes completely away.
When I turn off 4G, 3G will not come back. I have to pull the battery and reboot the phone.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I don't think I am.
Cheers

I was noticing the same but using wifi not 4g. I had to restart the phone earlier today in order to get my 3g back.
hard reset and see if that helps....if not just take it back to Sprint and ask for a replacement.
I have #4
...
i get the loud thing... its soft at first.. and then gets really loud. basically you just need to set the volume to in the volume manager in settings...the initial volume is not the true volume you have set
I also have #4. The ring volume seems muted for the first "half ring" or so, then full volume comes through.
Cheers
Ive been flipping through ever sound setting no way to adjust that.
I guess its norm?
Testers please
Crank up ring volume to high then give it a call report your findings

if you keep getting random shutdowns, take the phone back. Software won't fix that. A friend had the same problem with photon. It would just turn off on its own and wouldn't turn back on without taking the battery out. Apparently the battery kept dislodging and there's no way to fix it without ****ing with the hardware.
@comeatmebro well it froze twice it hasn't restarted or shutdown

Nexus Rebooting Randomly

Its happened twice that i can remember now.
This morning in bed I grabbed the phone, deleted some emails, opened the browser and the screen went blank with the sound of a slight crackle. It then instantly revooted (google logo popped up etc).
Im concerned the phone is faulty. Is it likely just one of those things or does it sound more sinister?
Hope somebody can advise.
Mine rebooted once the other day. I don't necessarily think that the phone is faulty, it just has bugs that need ironing out.

it's just the apps
it can happen with any android device
just keep an eye on which app is causing it
you can pull out the logs and scan through it
I've been having the same thing as the OP. I get "Android is Upgrading" when it restarts, too.
In additiona I've seen (several times now) that when I press the power button to turn the screen on, it wont accept any input. After 30 minutes or so it spontaneously restarts and goes to the "Android is Upgrading" message when it restarts.
I'm on the verge of RMI'ing the thing as some of the other guys in the office who have it have not had the same problems.
I'm running vanilla sim free version, no operator tat installed.

Are you running a totally unmodified stock rom or have you flashed a custom rom/kernel/radio to it? Kernels are still being worked on and arent perfect yet.
Also Android 4 is still very new and alot of apps are not fully compatable and subject to crashing or crashing the system.
Everything will be ironed out in time

[Q] Big problem after volume fix!

Hi all,
I purchase my Samsung Galaxy Nexus from 3 (Three) UK Store last Thursday. It has been faultless bar the odd hang which taking the battery out has resolved. Im using it on Orange.
However, this morning I picked up my phone and was notified I had the volume bix fix update.
I downloaded and installed the update and all was well for about 20 minutes.
Then my phone started going crazy!
I think its something to do with the screen as it keeps popping up the google search bar and flicking through some options, then the screen stops responding.
Sometimes the phone flicks between home screens partially and make them jiggle!
Locking and unlocking the phone gives me 5-30 seconds of normal use, then the phone goes crazy or just doesnt respond.
Ive turned the phone off and on, removed the battery and even reset it this evening.
It doesnt do it ALL the time, and whenever I try and do it on queue, it doesnt!
Luckily tonight I got video of the phone going crazy.
Can anyone help?
The phone is bog standard, ie no roms/roots etc.
Should I take it back or is there something I can do?
Also, since ive just reset the phone, ive had to set up my mail. Once the phone behaved I put in my account details and then it started popping up the menu button at the top of email, ie to change folders or accounts etc. Deffinately seems to be something with the top of screen.
Thanks

Please check the video out.
Maybe download the original shipping rom from Google and fastboot the image onto the phone and see if the behaviour continues.

This.
There's links to the original roms with or without the volume fix in place which can be found on the development section. I used this to update my gun and its working just fine. I'm also on Three UK and the reason I did this is because even though the volume bug doesn't affect us three users I still like being 100% up to date.

Green pixels, freeze and battery drain. Anyone else?

I did not have that problem for a long time, it only recently happened. In the morning the device 'froze' for the first time and did not react to any input without the screen turning on.
I took out the battery to restart and everything seemed fine. But later on it happened while I was using the device, certain pixels moved out of place (like a green pixel distortion) and the device froze. Screen turned off soon after. Taking out the battery was the only option.
Now, this is either battery or some other hardware flaw. After restart the battery had been hit with a 20% drop.
Might the device act up by some charging problems? When I am charging the device, I can feel the electric 'buzz' from the docking connectors (the three golden circles).
Also, when it is not charging, I cannot detect it myself, but if I take a strand of hair, the end of it 'sticks' lightly to the screen (and to the docking connector) if I put it close there. I fear like there's some manufacturing flaw there that broke loose.
The device has not dropped once, nor has had any other physical damage happen to it.
Has anyone else had the same symptoms happen?
Sounds like you've hit the same (or similar) issue to others (including me)

Thank you. I thought it was different from Sleep of Death since the initial symptoms were different from weeks ago when I read that thread, but now reading it this seems correct. This thread can be merged or removed, I'll post in the other thread. Thanks again!
I've had that too, couple days ago using Facebook everything just froze. The keyboard went all buggy and green pixels everywhere. The back of the phone started to warm up phone wouldn't respond in any way.
Tried everything I could try, only option was to pull the battery, once that happened phone wouldn't turn back on!
I gave the phone 5 mins to rest before putting battery back in then it turned on.
My heart was pounding I thought my phone had died!
Thankfully it hasn't happened since
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It's happened to me multiple times. Less since I turned off the EQ in the Music app, but it's still happening.
Once it happened with the device just sitting there with Tapatalk displaying a list of posts. I wasn't even interacting with it.
I think it's a OS or driver problem and will be fixed in an OTA.
happened to me once, although when it happened I was already pretty low on battery, about 20% left, maybe less.
I was in a settings menu for some app, I can't remember which. But I had the keyboard up, and the green pixels hit, froze, unfroze, green pixels again, froze, and then shut off.
it would not turn on via the power button, so I quickly pulled the batt and put it back after 30 secs or so and powered it up. Batt did not drop any lower than it was, and it worked fine. Plugged it in, recharged overnight, and has been fine ever since.
I'm running 4.0.1 and I don't have anything but apps made by Google on the phone at the moment.
never rooted or unlocked bootloader.
Hopefully 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 fixes this
i realize now that there's no support for 720P AC3 .MKV files on the Nexus yet, but every time i tried the phone would lock up and i'd have to do a battery pull. other then that, i notice if i have Google Music running and attempt to do something else(multi-task) the phone will also lock up.. but then it will reboot on it's own. i also get lag regularly switching views/menus or going from portait/landscape. additionally, the browser(regardless of which one i use) will occasionally just freeze & close by itself.. usually if i try to do a secure login on a site. i will also sometimes get FC's(have seen them for launcher pro & android keyboard)

[noob inside] - Screen unlocking problem, faulty device or android bug ?

Hey there guys , I've been searching through the forum topics about my issue but so far I've found nothing close to my scenario.
A few months ago I bought my first HTC phone (M8). Its a great device for sure , despite the fact that I had to return it back twice.
First time it was a faulty microphone , so they sent me back a brand new device. Great isn't it ?
However recently I've noticed a few .... let me call them 'glitches' .
Let me give you some details on what I've experienced with the device:
Despite the issues that i'm going through ... the phone works great, but...
Sometimes the screen wont turn on when I'm receiving incoming calls (same goes for the alarm clock) but the phone is able to recognize touches - i've managed to pick up the call when I swiped the screen in the area where the "green" answer button appears .
The above issue doesnt happen so often but the thing that bothers me is the unlocking issue.
At first I thought that it was stuck or faulty power button.
When the phone is idle for some time and I pick it up and press the unlock button ... nothing seems to happen I've tried pressing it hard ... i've tried pressing it gently ... i've tried pressing it multiple times until the screen wakes up .
Same goes for motion launch unlocking .
When I use motion launch to unlock it the phone only gives me a vibration feedback ... and thats it until I try harder to bring the screen back to ''life'' .
(I can also press my security pattern buttons while the screen is dead and feel the phone vibrating , BUT NOT ALWAYS , sometimes is just .. dead )
I already sent the phone back describing the same problems and they just flashed the firmware , which did not fix any of the issues.
Stock Rom android 5.0.1 , not rooted
Soo what do you guys think? What can I do next .. is it android bug or a faulty unit ?
is it possible to be a sensor problem (proximity , accelerometer)
Already tried factory reset and dalvik cache wipe.
Any advice would be useful.
Thanks for taking your time .
Cheerz
I have the same issue. There are times it takes me hitting the power button 20 times for it to finally light up but I can press buttons with it black. The weird thing is it does it on every single ROM but I havent noticed it on Stock...maybe I'm not using stock enough to see. I'll probably throw stock on there today and take it into sprint and let them replace it.
I have the same problem whether it's on stock or custom ROM (KK or L). I am pretty sure this is a hardware problem. Unfortunately, my m8 is out of warranty so HTC won't fix it for free. I read it some where that it could be a faulty proximity switch so shining a light beam to the top part of the phone may wake up the screen. I haven't tried it yet because every time it happens, I don't have a flash light handy. It is an annoying problem to say the least.
When this happens, I pushed the power button, the volume up button, and swiping the screens. Eventually the screen would wake up and every thing works fine... until the next time.
Its a ****ing pain in the ass.
however none of the sensor reading apps report a faulty/stuck sensor.
the wors thing... I've already sent my phone for repair, describing the problems in details. .. and it took them a whole f*cking month to bring it back to me with no results.
I don't think they will replace it because its a problem that takes time to be experienced...and no one is going to wait for it to happen. ...
Any other ideas?
Should I wait for android 6.0 or should I try a custom rom too see if these problems presist.
Fml I love the phone but this is frustrating.
I have the same problem I think. I just bought an M8 on Ebay. I am S-off, unlocked and rooted, using the Viper Rom currently. I have also tried AICP, the stock Tmobile Rom and a few others. Same issue.
If I double tap, I feel the screen vibrate, but nothing comes on. Then, I keep pushing power button a few times. Sometimes it comes on and sometimes I am too impatient to wait, so I just hold power and volume up.
I also know that the phone internals come on, because after that vibration, I swipe up and push the screen a few times. Then, when I am fiddling with the power button and it does come on, I do see that there is an app already on the screen.
I think this is a rare issue, as I haven't even been able to find many posts regarding this. I may have to get a new one if this keeps going on so bad.

I am experiencing the exact same issue with my M8. I have seen a lot of people stating it may be a hardware fault related to heat and internals but something about how it reacts seems software related.
I really hope someone who has fixed or uncovered the reason comes forward. At this rate I may be switching back to a S4 LTE-A.

I think it IS hardware related. I was able to return that one and got another M8. No problems at all.
