Set password to buy apps on Samsung Focus - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

I have no idea if there is a way to do this but I let my 8 year old use my phone to play games most of them trials and the ease of buying on the Focus is great for me but and 8 year old might click buy not thinking and then I see I have bought an app on my AT&T bill..
Also I did google this and search the forums with no luck, I am new but not 100% retarded

No. You can't set password at this point and it's charged to your phone bill.

god that is such a bad idea, I am hoping they fix this in the update because as it is now it's way to easy to buy apps and I am now going to uninstall any trial I have just to be on the safe side..

hmmm, t-mobile won't let me add it to my phone bill. Goes straight to the CC.

I found one solution: you can delete your credit card from the account. Oddly, not from Zune software, but you can from zune.net.

Please post these kinds of questions in the General Section, as they do not add anything to WP7, if you had made a new feature of some sort that had this ability this place would be the appropriate forum, or even the Software Development Section.

Purchasing apps on the new marketplace

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything on this yet because I haven't...
I remember hearing that you will have the option of charging a card to purchase applications or charging them to your carriers bill. Has anyone heard if you will be able to use MS Points to purchase applications? I would like to assume that with the tight intergration between Xbox Live and Zune Marketplace, that this would be an option.
Thanks if anyone knows yet.
There has been a lot said on the topic. Yes, you can add a credit card so it'll be charged. Yes, carrier billing will also be available as an option if your carrier chooses to provide it. Marketplace will use money, not points.

+1, on the ZuneInsider podcast, they said they were working to get rid of the MS Points. (Can't recall which podcast was that, sorry)
Surprised they never mention MS Points. I thought they would use them exclusively like Zune and XBox Live Marketplace. Good that they're phasing them out except they give you the option of paying with cash by purchasing point cards. This would only be useful amongst XBox users without credit cards though. The main problem with them is you always end up with spare change that you can't use.

Looks like my question was answered.

For buying software, Windows Phone Marketplace will be in dollars; Xbox Marketplace will be Points ("funny money")

Any lawyer's out there. Please read.

Ok I know when you buy a computer and if say you don't want Windows on it and its preinstalled you can deny the terms and conditions, and Microsoft will refund you the amount of money that windows cost.
Now using that same theory if I wright a letter to HTC saying I don't agree to there terms and conditions, than wouldn't they then have to either supply me with a stock Android Rom minus there software, or provide me with a way to remove there software, by either giving me a way to load my own Rom built from source, or give me access to system partition to remove the said software.(see were I am going with this)
Anyway if someone with some legal knowledge could school me a little bit that would be great. Thanks.
Yes this will work. This is great..... FOR ME TO POOP ON!

Calling in the Suits
Does the Incredible have an EULA on first boot? I am still waiting for mine so I cannot say, but I would assume when you sign up with Verizon, such rights are waved (esp. after the 30-day return period). I would assume the most they would do for you would be similar to Microsoft and give you a rebate in exchange for the device.
However, these are all assumptions on my part. I am friends with a lawyer who used to represent Olga.net (On-line Guitar Archives) when I worked with them. He managed to fend off the NMPA (kind of the music version of the MPAA) and MPA (a sister organization to the RIAA; focuses on publishing rights) for many years. Really the only reason OLGA is not running now is the admin providing the resources was told by his employer that they were no longer going to support the site once the take-down notices started to flood in and the words "possible lawsuit" were whispered.
I'll get in contact with him and post (possibly PM only) his reply, but you might also want to try and get in contact with someone at the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), as this sounds right up their alley.
Yes on first boot you are asked to accept the EULA.
I think you are out of luck.
The phone is a phone first, a computer second. You can't buy the phone without the OS in it because Verizon won't allow a phone device that has not been approved on their network.
You didn't buy the phone from HTC, you bought it from Verizon. So any dispute with what you purchased is with Verizon, not HTC (Ie you can't buy the phone from HTC direct).
If you don't like Sense UI, don't buy a phone that comes with it. Your recourse which you had from the very beginning was to return the phone.
Not a lawyer...
I love sense but I'm just looking for some options.
I'll give you $1,000,000 if you actually do this. Why? Because it will never happen. No offense, but are you truly serious or are you really really high? Do you think if I bought a video game, I could decline the license agreement and demand they provide me the source code or something? Krelvin is trying to talk some sense into you, so listen to him. Just be patient and wait for root. It will happen soon enough.
Why didn't you just buy a phone with an android os without sense. ??
Verizon will just tell you to **** off. HTC isn't going to give you root access just because you deny the terms of service... Give it a shot though!
Just wait for Root...or return the phone and get a different one.
There, done deal.

flash your own rom. nobody stopped you.
Come on guys, give binny a little bit of respect on this, he isn't a n00b to the Android world and he doesn't dislike HTC or Sense, he is just thinking of possible ways for us Incredible users to get root. I did run this by my lawyer friend though and he basically repeated the line a few people have come up with (that it's really Verizon that you would have to deal with and it's highly unlikely that for any reason you would be able to force their hand).
However if you still want to pursue this, I am still recommending the EFF. To start a new "action" you can sign up here.
Didn't mean to come off as such an a-hole as I was kinda irritated that day ahha.
but anyways, if he can accomplish this (which is highly unlikely), I'll give him all kinds of props.
If he's willing to go through with it, by all means do it...but like others have stated, Verizon will most likely be quite unwilling...

I'm not being disrespectful. I am being real. Binny is in dreamland if he thinks this will help/work/not be a waste of time. And no offense, but your lawyer friend didn't do that website much good as they are still shutdown, and if he successfully "fended" anyone off the website would be up and running, not shutdown with a notice about legal issues.

Thank you so much for correcting my grammar it was soooooo nice of you.
And I will make this clear my complaint would not be with VZW as they had no hand in anything software wise. I'm not going to feed into the trolls here. So please I ask if you have nothing productive to say than don't say it. There are 3 licenses that you are accepting, HTC's, Google's, and the open source licensing, if you accept the two of them and not HTC's than you should still be able to use you phone. That's the point I am trying to make here but thanks to everyone who felt the need to comment on this, and had nothing useful to say.

WP7 Development pointers?

I'm new into the WP7/Mobile modding scene, (just left the X360 and Halo Scene). I made an account on AppHub, only to find out you need to be 18, and my school didn't partake in DreamSpark. I have a few apps i am really keen to debug on my phone, but i wasn't sure of an eta or any developments in running homebrew code on my WP7 (HTC HD7).
If anybody knows of any developments or even links, i would be very greatful. Thanks, Alex.

It would have to be the same as my xbox live, windows live and apphub account details. So that also isn't an option
Just start a new account. They ask for your xbox credentials, etc, but it isn't necessary to give them.

Buy the dreamspark product at journeyed (its free, no credit card required). You will have to send them some sort of identification and academic verification (class schedule, id, etc). You can read on their site about the verification process/requirements.
Once you're verified you will be emailed with further instructions. Works great! And journeyed is legit, I've bought lots of stuff from there before.

Titanium reverts to donate version

I upgraded my Titanium Backup to the Pro version paying the $5.95 (actually $1.00 + CHF 5.25). it was instantly upgraded, and I got the email (+smses from my bank). Yesterday on its own it has reverted back to the donate version. Also,if I remember correctly there was a second Titanium app which is also now missing. I am on Android 2.3.3 on my Dinc 2.
I download the pro version from 4share.apk
Finally fixed. Titanium staff (Joel) were most helpful. Finally, removed and reinstalled Titanium Backup and the problem was fixed. Reinstalling the Key file did not help. Apparently, if you are using the same Google account then i. you can reload the key and ii.you can run it on multiple phones. They key is personal to you.

I seldom use those forbidden sites to acquire fully functioning software products only to make sure that it WILL perform properly on my aged PC.
If it works and I like it, I actually purchase the software and re install the proper version on my PC.
If it does not work or I don't care for it I remove it.
Piracy for the sole purpose of trying to get something for free that is offered for usually a modest amount, is wrong plain and simple.
It IS nice of you to offer help to people that are stuck trying to make use of the software that they DID pay for.
Usually there is a Read Me file within the file or on the site stating that if you like the product, then you should pay for it.
And now that you know, If you like the product and it works as it should, you should either pay for it or uninstall it.
The site you quoted probably doesn't pay ANY add revenue to the developer of the product.
I know it was a hassle to get my purchase validated also, but I kept at it and feel good about having done this.

What the hell man, this is just crazy what is Microsoft thinking? This will only drive more people away from the platform and will keep phone sales at the rate they are now or lower. Who in the world wants to pay $99 a year just to be able to customize a phone? I personally do currently pay the $99 but will stop soon this is just a death sentence for Windows phone, really someone over at MS gets fired over this.
do you realize that most people would not care about these stuff, and we only nerds that like to hack our phones will matter. Maybe microsoft has something better in store? possibly in apollo we will get sideloading capabilities and other power user functions.

I've a Samsung WP unlocked by Chevron. So, I've installed Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps... this means that after the 120 days, theses apps won't work in my phone?
So basically MS and the Chevron team just ripped off everyone that went and bought a token? I thought the token was forever, was there ever any metntion that it would expire in the future? if not this sounds like a scam, well for those who paid. I see a law suit.

I don't see any law suits as Microsoft as offered to refund $99 and swap Chevron unlock for App Hub Developer unlock.
However, interesting thing would be how many $9 unlocks are from non-supported countries!?
Surely out of 10,000 there are at least 100 people who paid $9 and don't have access to App Hub - those can go for a law suit unless Microsoft is going to make up for it in any other fashion in a separate announcement.

You're one of the people who make me disgusted at this community. Nokia apps (and other OEM apps) are device specific. You need to buy those devices to get those apps, as those apps on other devices is called stealing. Yet, this entire community insists they are entitled to things they have never paid for... Most of you don't want these accounts to "develop" or contribute, you want these accounts to sideload apps you have no way of paying for/getting.

I could be wrong, but didn't Nokia release these apps in the earlier versions for other non-Nokia devices? Of course (now) Nokia is claiming that their updated apps will be only for Nokia devices. Not condoning piracy here, but I don't see a problem with side loading device specific apps on other Windows Phones. These apps are free to the the users anyway right? -Well most of them... As we all know, each manufacturer has its own collection of apps for their devices. -And we can all agree there are apps that are better than others in each manufacturer app store. If the apps are free, I find it a little ridiculous to say that Windows Phone users would have to go and buy a certain WP just to be able to use a device for a specific free app on their phone. -Now if each manufacturer released their apps to EVERY WP device with the apps being free for that specific device and had a paid version for non-specific devices, my argument would be irrelevant here. -But we know this is not the case.
Anyway, yes I do agree somewhat that some users want their phones dev unlocked just to sideload apps that they themselves didn't develop or buy, but I have to say that I believe some/most members here on XDA contribute to some form or fashion to the development/modding/hacking phone world. I myself became a Windows Mobile/Phone developer because I was amazed at what I could do with my phone when I first started getting into flashing roms for Windows Mobile. I kept on coming back to this forum to see what I could do next with my phone. I finally realized that I couldn't wait for the next thing to come out for my phone, so I started learning the development side of the phone. As the years kept rolling on, I became very familiar with the development process and even made quite a bit of money on my apps. -So the point is, calling people out on wanting the dev unlocks just to sideload restricted apps on their phones is sort of unfair. You and I do not know the motives of the other users on this forum.
