[Q] HTC: Quietly making the worst wp7 handsets? - Windows Phone 7 General

was very surprised to see on another site that the HTC trophy was recommended was the best phone for the user, even when up against the samsung galaxy s and the iphone 4! i thought are you crazy? it seems that most HTC wp7 handsets are half baked and faults are appearing on them quite often. so with that in mind what would the reviewer had thought if he got his hands on a samsung focus for example?

I have not had any faults appear on the two HD7's I have had since launch day. People have personal preferences when it comes to handsets anyways.

Am loving my HD7. No faults to report, sir.

Love; failures we have two threads on this, closed!

Which is gonna be best to get?

hi with all the leaks of the new mobiles that are to be released which one is going to be the best 1 to get thats gonna keeps me going for at least 2 years.
With WP7, the specs are all standardized. The options are pretty much personal decisions..
How much storage do you want?
Do you value a physical keyboard?
Which do you think looks the best?
How big of a screen do you want?
What models will work on your carrier (this will probably limit you the most)?
Noone can answer those questions for you. The things that would affect longevity (CPU, RAM) are all standard on WP7 so really won't differ much if at all.

go with hTC Hd3~ haha
question is when is the hd3 gonna be released? One things for sure i dont want a small screen nothing less than 3.8 but would prefer 4 and above
I looking for more of a Touch Pro3 type device. Although I would love to see a 4"+ screen with a slide out keyboard.
I'll probably end up with a Samsung whenever I decide to switch. I don't know what it is, but I always ended up with a Samsung in my pocket for the last 4-5 years now.
I went from the Samsung i630 -> i760 -> Omnia II (i920)
Probably has to do more with Verizon being my provider than any affinity I have for Samsung.
what I'm wondering, .I'm from the netherlands, and also wantto buy it in october, but the dutch version won't be there then yet. So, can I also buy the english version here, or do I need to export it?
cheers

According to pdadb.net the HTC Mondrian/Schubert /Mozart's predecessor model is the HD2, so basically, this will be the HD3.
pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2388&c=htc_mondrian__schubert__mozart
But to answer your question, RustyGrom couldn't have said it any better, but the best thing to do right now is not to get into any contracts until at least November, I just canceled Sprint and now have and HD2 with T-Mob, contract less...
I must say all those leaked devices recently look very bad.
Besides Dell Lightning.

I liked the square Asus was it...there was something else square that looked nice...was it another Samsung maybe? But it's weird...that samsung taylor prototype look has grown on me, lol. But I can't wait to see reviews instead of leaks.
PDADB?
Is there another site that organizes the upcoming models better?
Well, as always Sprint is last to get a phone. The only positive is lately Sprint has the best looking and performing phones out (Evo and Epic). I hope this trend continues and Sprint drops a real monster this winter.
There is a decent round up here...
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/35093/windows-phone-7-launch-phones
now we know the models that are being released which is gonna be best, now im more prone to the hd7 or the omnia 7 manly being screen size not sure which yet. So which would you pick and why?
I'm partial to the Samsungs with the S-AMOLED screens. WP7, even more than other OSes, looks great on a AMOLED screen.

ditto - plus SD card support as well if that pans out.
From people who have had hands-on sessions and the lucky few who have received their review units already, I've been hearing Mozart and Omnia are the nicest. The general consensus seems to be that the HD7 doesn't feel quite right, too big, too shiny and WP7 somehow feels better on the smaller screens.
The Trophy seems to be winning a lot of praise too, though I think that's on the presumption that it will be quite a bit cheaper than the Mozart.
Yeah the Mozart is a very nice looking device. My only concern is no SAMOLED. I agree with the above post about WP7 looking best with an AMOLED screen. However, I'm not too sure I want a phone with Samsung's build quality. Decisions.. decisions..
The LG phones actually look good in the reviews Ive seen which is a bit of a shocker as Ive never like LG for phones that much in the past...
Well... I prefer the HD7... it just looks like THE WP7 device... it just stands out, that gorgeous 4.3 inch screen? that beautiful camera(2 LED!), the stand! the other devices are small and weak... the Dell one just looks ugly(I thought it looked like the BlackBerry Style)
Still, speed is no issue with any of them...

In my opinion I believe Windows 7 mobile is beautiful and well made. I think this a winning mobile OS for MIcrosoft.
Yeah it does seem to be a vast improvement over Windows 6.5.
Are you getting paid each time we click your links??? I mean seriously ? WTF is up with that.
complete "meh"...
It should be called the "hTc HD2 II iLeo".
lol.
just sayin'.
That review was really unfair... that device is the best on the market, the only way you can tell if that screen is weird or not is if you compare it, alone it looks beautiful. the surround's speakers blow and it is so thick!
The display is objectively terrible. HTC has an unhealthy addiction with reusing old stock/designs on new devices, which is probably what made it use a vanilla TFT-LCD panel on a device that is all about the display.
Omnia is the best WP7 launch device, unless some showstopping hardware defect is found.

Objectively terrible....Hmm have you actually seen a HD7 in the flesh or are you taking it from a poorly crafted review? The display is actually far better than the HD2 with richer colours, better back lighting (more even) and it's nice and bright. The design is also subtly different, far better camera, sound quality is excellent. Maybe try one for yourself before criticising, personally I only like to comment on items when I have something informed to say!

You can see the display by lookimg at an Evo. Fon't embarass yourself. The quality is terrible, ESPECIALLY compared to a Super AMOLED display. Evo looks washed out compared to Galaxy S. The same will be true for HD7 vs Omnia 7.
However, I would suicide before buying another Samsung phone.

Really, so I have the device in my hands as well as a Galaxy S and you are looking at an Evo, and I shouldn't embarrass myself Hmm! Most people who have the HD7 are more than happy with both the build quality and the screen. As I stated the display is better than the HD2 (Evo) so you are incorrect! and yes I have actually had a HD2 as well! The HD7 is using a newer screen.
Since I have upgraded my Galaxy S to Froyo it seems to be running far better. Using the HD7 now though as my main phone.
ps not take things so personally that you feel you need to attack me!

Yeah....They were at MWC 2011, but they would have done better if they stayed home to spare themselves the embarrassment.
It's OK, at least now they know what their competitors are up to

I'm quite happy they're not blowing people out the water - means the last year I have on my contract won't be full of jealousy

Ha-ha! Excellent point
About the SGS II .... 4.3" @ 800x480 ? And they'd probably try to market it at like 600 quid - initially at least.... They also could have done a bit better, I think. I really hope both companies would get the appropriate market feedback. But human intellect follows a normal distribution hence advertising works quite well.
Did you see this one:

Many issues, too, but! Has the potential to show in the UK at like 150-160 contract-free
yeah read about that one too today, actually not too bad..

[Q] New phone or continue with my Desire?

I love my HTC Desire more than any phone I have ever had. I baught it the day it came out, and I have not had any trouble with it ever since. I have used CM since 6.x version and I love the product. It has kept me up to date without having to upgrade my phone.
Now im testing out some of the ISC versions that works on my phone, still I feel that the hardware is now not enough for me, (including cam- quality, and especially internal memory and processor speed).
So I wonder what phone should I consider if I decide to buy a new phone? Or should I wait for something extraordinary to come on the market?
Wait for HTC Edge or Ville. I also came to conclusion that I want better GPU and better camera. For 2-year-old phone Desire is still unbelievable competitive.

Those two phones looks amazing, especially the Edge with the quad-core. Hope the camera could be a reasonably replacement for a digital camera. I havent seen many phones that can match the flash that regular digital cameras have.
I am more devoted to stay with HTC after I saw they have the HTCdev.com .
Was considering to look into some of the samsung- phones, but I feel its a bit more plastic than HTC.
I agree with mikbe on this one. My Desire is suprisingly competitive after almost two years. If I should buy a phone today, it would probably be the SII. But since my Desire is still alive and kicking, I'm gonna wait for the "next big thing", whatever (or whoever) that might be. I love my HTC, but I'm not married to them Maybe the SIII...?

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
if you buy today, then I would choose HTC Sensation
but it is reasonable to wait for HTC Edge
if you buy the Samsung I bought a samsung galaxy nexus
Just be a few weeks until the next set of HTC phones will be released at MWC. I would wait until after then - something might grab you, or if not, the current phones should come down in price. This is the worst time to buy just now!

after my htc desire I may switch to the htc sensation
though...i also like the size and look of it very much
having a tablet some of the 'new-power-devices' features are not required
i may even go back to a smaller phone next time...so having more a 'telephone' than a small supercomputer
I was htc fan for many years now..but also considering a samsung as my next android phone
I think I will wait for the next great HTC phone. Now that I have Sandvolds ICS I can float a bit longer. And now that I have an extra partition I can install lots of stuff. The ICS is a bit buggy, bit hopefully it will become complete. Sandvold is doing a great job. Recommend it for everyone !

What brand will you switch to after HTC goes bankrupt?

Hey guys, from what I have seen going around on this forum it's pretty obvious that HTC has shot themselves death w the One X fiasco. The way they response to the issues so far will definitely transfer to brand damage and permanent loss of customers. Combined w their abysmal performance lately, the future is not so bright for them. Such a shame since I really like their phones. Using an HTC sensation XL now w only one core and I'm proud to show to next to any SII.
Anyway, there's a big fat chance that HTC wont be around long. Just wondering what brand you guyz will switch to once they're done. For me it'll be either Sony if I really really want to stay w Android (I love Google). If not I'll jump to Nokia and WP even though I really hate M$, or even worse, I'll go w Apple and iOS (hopefully they'll have released something bigger than 4.5 inch screen wise by then). Wont ever go w Samsung phones since their fan boys are bloody annoying. They're the worst kind of fan boys ever, even worse than Apple's srsly.
Imagine someday we'll look back at our old HTC phones and realize there was a time when they existed lol.
Peace.

all devices have a fiasco at launch, it was there when the xbox360 launched, ps2, ps3, sgs2, iphone4...i can keep going but can't be bothered
yes its worse than usual but nothing new
besides our polls, the faultless One X thread and 95% of the reviews making love to the One X proves it's still far away from a failure
the worst that will happen is a measure for early adopters, just like Sony did for the defected Xperia S screens

I've been following this phone on the internet and there are just simply too many issues. All the polls so far as far as I understand don't count how many phones are affected in every way. Instes each poll addresses a particular issue. Hence if we combine all the affected phones the ratio is pretty large I think. I understand very well that all new products will have issues, particular the one x since its a complete new direction in manufacturing for HTC. However the way they rushes out the products and how they have been responding to the complaints so far just makes me rethink my allowance for them.
And as I have said I have been following this phone every single day since the launh and the issues dont just come up in this forum. Threads about issues come up in other android forums as well. Also a lot of average consumers probably haven't paid close attention to the defects particularly the screen flickering issue. Or perhaps they justwerent bothered by it enough to make a big deal ( I think they'll regret it though as it gets worse).
So yeah not trolling at all just wanna share my thoughts. No need to get so worked up

Every sony phone I've had in the past (admittedly older phones, not smartphones) has developed a fault within its warranty period, or just after.
They were still using crappy connections for charging, that after time dont fit properly and everything else.
So Sony nope...
Samsung, crap build quality, awfull touchwiz. No thanks.
WinPhone7, just removed it from my old HD2 so my Mrs can have Android on it. No thanks... Its very slick for a phone/functions perfectly but is too immature to be a real option as a smartphone. Crappy sat nav, and a million things on marketplace that you have to pay for thart are free for android market.
Doesnt leave anybody does it?

I've never said they'll go bankrupt because of the one x fiasco. I said that in combination w the abysmal financial performance in the last couple of months, the one x issues will probably put a lot of ppl off HTC forever. Remember LG?
The smartphone market is very different now. It's basically a 2 horse race between Samsung and Apple for the premium market and the Chinese manufacturers for the low level phones. Hell the latter is even moving up as well and w very competitive price. It's not easy for HTC to turn around now and apparently even harder once they lose customers because of the lack of response and future potential customers who are discouraged from buying it either by someone they know or by viewing forums like this.
I won't be switching back to Samsung if HTC goes belly up, that's certain.
I'll move away from smart phones and go back to retro 90's Nokia phones
