Stock Email App - Desire General

Is anyone else having issues with the stock email app and Exchange 2010? My company has recently set a flag on the Exchange server which has stopped Stock Email app from working.... however, my colleagues HTC mail still works, Roadsync and Touchdown both work...
any ideas from anyone?

I had a similar problem with both the stock Mail app on Sense and CM 6.1. I actually had to subscribe to a service from my company that allowed my email to be configured on mobile devices. Once I did it, it works without any problems.

When you say subscribe to a service what do you mean?

Yes I have the same problem Exchange 2010, self-signed certificate, "Allow non-provisionable accounts checked".
HTC Mail works, stock Android (cyanogen, oxygen...) doesn't.
The only thing I found is issue 1780 (google it) for Cyanogen, but non of the links for different Email.apk work so I can't try them.

FYI
I fixed my issues by using the Email.apk out of this ROM

email client sucks badly

Basically there are two main flaws which MUST be fixed by HTC!
1) 9 times out of 10 when you try to create a new imap account, the setup doesn't proceed over the incoming server page so you can't configure it at all
2) you can't add untrusted certificate when syncronizing with an exchange server (this function is supported by standard android client and I can't understand why htc removed it!): I'm not able to recieve push corporate mails becouse of this and was forced to use K-9 client (which works as a charm)
HTC must fix these issues as soon as possible, as they make the Desire unusable as a reliable business tool. Seriously

When creating my excahnge account, it just asks me if I want to acccept the untrusted certificate and thats it, thats the last I hear about that.

Odd, mine hasn't ever done that. I've been using a Hero with exchange for 10 months or so and now the desire a few days with no issues.

I haven't had any problem with corporate exchange certificate when was using my old windows mobile phones nor with my former Androids (Hero and Magic) but with this Desire it's a nightmare. When using K-9 client everything works fine so I think it's HTC client's fault...
Will be interesting to see whether anyone else has the same issue. I can't fault it, works just as well as it did on my Hero!
Untrusted certificate problem...
I've got this problem too, but, I don't know why, after few attempts, the problem is switched off by itself.
I don't know if it is possible to load the certificate into the phone via browser, but you can try this way.
Sending email via outbox without data connection is not possible...
This is another odd issue:
If there is not a data connection, the email client is NOT able to send email. Normally the email clients move email into the outbox folder for a future sending when a data connection will be available.
It's simple to test. You can try this issue, disabling every data connection on your phone.
This is very boring issue, mostly for those people that strongly use email for business.
Any feedback about?

Exactly the same with me too. Which version of Exchange are you using? If it is 2007 just remove the handset from exchange managed devices then recreate the account on the handset. Might help?
Just to confirm, currently using Exchange 2003.
Weird, the client is working perfectly for me, with Exchange 2007. I wonder what it is about your environment that triggers the problem?
I've setup IMAP acounts many many times with no issues at all on my Magic because of constant re-flashing ROMs ;-) (most of the time with the HTC mail client). Also the 2 IMAP acounts on my desire were setup in minutes with no problem. Maybe your device is faulty?
i had as well no problems setting up my corporate exchange account. it was exactly like on my hero. it showed me a warning about the certificate once, i think i pressed ignore and that's it. no more problems.
Exchange 2003

Oh yeah I forgot about the IMAP bit. I use IMAP for my personal email account and again, it worked first time and has worked perfectly since. Same on my G1, though the default client lacked some functionality on there.
Do you have good connectivity when you run through the IMAP set up process? When you enter your details it tries to connect and verify that they are correct, so I wonder whether this is the delay/hang you're seeing?

Indeed have this issue with exchange 2003.. Just to bad.. It's so close to being perfect, but now I have do dig out my iphone again..
I've been in touch with HTC customer service. They don't see this as a bug, but agreed to open a feature request to allow 'download and trust certificate' aka TouchDown does..
not had any exchange issues on my desire with exchange 2007 or 2010 as of yet. really pleased with the email client actually, works a lot better than my n97 one did!

Exchange ActiveSync Mail Force Close Issue With All ROMS

This happens every time when I click on an email. It crashes every time. Is this a known issue? I can get around using a mail widget. But I like to use the native mail app. following is the error I get:
Sorry!
The application Mail (process com.htc.android.mail) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Please help!!!!!
more background would help as to what steps you have taken:
My suggestion is to do a factory reset and wipe all via AMON and install fresh ROM. I am having issues only with Exchange on CM, all sense mail apk's work for me.

I have done everything wipe, factory reset. This is Lotus Notes 8.5.1 Traveler. Exchange and Notes both uses ActiveSync protocol for push mail.
I was wondering if anybody else is having similar issues.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
For starters your in the wrong threads, this should be in the General Questions,
But info needed is rom your using, version of email program.
As I use Exchange Active Sync on all the roms I have tested from 2.1 and 2.2 version even the Cyanogenmod Default works fine for me. My office uses the new Exchange 2010 servers.
Now notes is a far different thing. It might use the same protocol but that does not mean it is the same setup.
Never heard of this issue with Exchange 2007, or greater. What ROM and mail apk are you using?
willing to bet it's got something to do with lotus, and not the mail app. Tell your corp to stop using horrible lotus and use horrible exchange instead
As opposed to?

Agreed. Lotus really sucks, at least at working with third party software. I've never met a developer that didn't hate any attempt to integrate with Lotus.
Lotus Notes... eww...
Well... I sync with Exchange Server 2007 and I had zero problems with custom ROMs.
Well, I am having the same issue... Force close when I try and look at any message from ActiveSync in the default Sense mail client.
I am running a stock EVO, not rooted with the 3.29.651.5 Software.
I do have the beta LN Traveler client installed. I did not try to uninstall that and connect the default mail client again. I am wondering if it has something to do with the ?requirement? that mail be stored encrypted on the device?
Everything else seems to work, except actually reading the mail. Our IT department says they are going to cut all other clients off in the near future anyway. I really hate that because the LN Traveler client stinks (no surprise) in that nothing is integrated so agenda widget doesn't know about those calendar entries at all. Contacts is the only part that is integrated.
Yes, I hate LN, but some of us don't have a choice...

I am totally with you on this. Lotus Notes is a crappy email system and as users we do not have a choice. Traveler works perfectly on the iPhone and not Android. Our Lotus Notes team is also going to discontinue Android support. Just iPhone and Blackberry only. No one wants to fix the issue and IBM suck at support. That's it I'm done.
We have updated to 8.5.2.0 but I got the same problem you are talking about, have you found any solution?

Exact same issue
I know this is an old thread, but this is the only one I could find that matched my problem.
I'm running SprintLover ROM and using stock email app. Configured Exchange account fine and email headers and calendar syncs fine. Can open and edit calendar entries and it syncs. However, once I tap an email to open it, I receive a force close error.
I did a factory wipe, and did not install or sync anything other than the Exchange account - same story. Synced fine but could not open a message.
But sorry, I haven't found a workaround or solution yet.

[Q] Froyo (official) and multiple exchange accounts

I just installed the official Froyo build. Unfortunately, it looks like multiple exchange accounts is not supported.
Do any of the other 2.2 roms (e.g., Sky Raidar) support multiple exchange accounts (preferably with sense - I actually like it)?
Also, assuming another ROM will work, what is the best way to flash the ROM without losing my settings. The official build updated without the need to wipe (only issue I found so far is I had to uninstall/reinstall swype). If I install another ROM, does titanium backup do a good job of restoring the phone's app and settings? (don't want to have to redo all my screens, etc).
Thanks
I've never known any device to sync multiple exchange accounts. But this is my first Android device coming from iPhone.
Unfortunately, the HTC Mail application in general does not allow for multiple exchange accounts...
Is there a way to get the non HTC stock mail application installed (or do any of the vanilla roms support multiple accounts)? Unfortunately, I assumed Froyo would enable multiple accounts (I am already using touchdown and the native support to get 2 accounts, but I have a few additional ones).
Thanks
You know what they say when you assume. My only recommendation would be using Touchdown which you already do. Depending on what you use your exchange accounts for (work or personal) you can setup some forwarding rules to have everything come into one spot. Only thing with that is it is against businesses policy (or it should be) to forward company property like that.
The stock Email.apk in /system/app from CM6 works fine on the incredible. The ONLY PROBLEM is that when you read an email from somewhere else, the notification is not removed from the status bar, and it stays there until you re-open the application. My only gripe.
Interesting. I am awaiting the OTA and use the stock 2.1 for accessing an exchange server. Hotmail is setup as a separate account. I heard Hotmail will go live this week with Activesync support, so will this mean I will have to choose which one I want, giving up one, beig hotmail obviously.
Thanks.
No just setup your Hotmail as POP or IMAP, whichever it supports.

How would I go about installing this? Is it as simple as installing other apps? I used the CM6 ROM for a couple weeks and loved it but random reboots forced me back to my previous ROM.

Hotmail doesn't support IMAP which is a large part of why people want to set it up as an activesync account. Pop just sucks...
It's sad that the HTC client doesn't support more than one activesync account, the Pre they gave me at works handles up to 8 I believe (have 3 currently setup on it).
That is not to say that the Pre's activesync implementation is better, I wish it would let me choose which parts of the account I want to sync rather than forcing an all or nothing approach, but it is nice to have real push email on all my accounts with it.
The Pre can sync tasks as well... I wish HTC would implement this.
Has anyone figured out an acceptable work-around that doesn't involve non-working notifications or paying for touchdown?

Improved Email App
I installed Improved Email from the marketplace. It supports multiple Exchange accounts and syncs email, calendar and contacts.

Built in exchange support or not?

Just saw a disturbing post and I wanted to get some confirmation from those who own the phone.
I saw in a comment on a review of this phone that it doesn't support Ms exchange for email or calendar. I absolutely news push email and calendar for my business. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not?

Thanks. Awesome news

No issues on my side. This phone activates exchange the same way my last 4 android phones have. No issues at all as far as the phone side goes. Also if you have root you can replace the TW email.apk with the stock Gingerbread one. I did this just because I like the aosp email better.

The builtin mail app works fine with my exchange server. I use Touchdown because I like the interface better though...
One thing that you might not be aware of if you're using Exchange 2010 for your mail server is that there is a limit to the number of devices you can connect to an account. You can manage connected devices in OWA so login there and delete any old devices...
One other thing that my exchange server does when I connect the phone to it is to push security settings to my phone. A popup appears on the phone that I have to accept in order to sync mail. If I don't, I don't get anything...
Finally, you could try touchdown and if it works but the built in mail app doesn't then I'd recommend the purchase. It's still better than the improved built in version IMHO
Robin. Another quick question. Can you send and accept calendar invites for exchange from the native calendar apply? That's another big one for me. I am aware of touchdown and even own the license but I am a minimalist and if I don't have to install an app that's services are already present I wont. Thank you in advance.

[Q] Cant connect to exchange email account!

Hi everyone!
No matter how many times I try I can't get my g3 to connect to my work exchange email account.
I'm 100% sure all the info is correct. Works fine on my galaxy s4.
Anyone else having this issue? Might be a deal breaker for me if I can't get this working.

I just got a G3 today and had the same issue trying to setup my corporate email account. It looks like the email client is broken.
I downloaded "MailWise" from the play store and was up and running in a few minutes. I don't like having to use an additional email client, but at least it works.
Turns out my problem was related to my being an admin account on the exchange server. Had to enable permissions inheritance ok my account. Works now.

Exchange issues...
Hi all,
I got a very similar issue: I got my frame repaired (LG G3 case broke at microphone hole) with some potential upgrade to the latest software. Since then I can't access my exchange server anymore through the "built-in" email program! Access is still easy through all of my other devices (S3, Note 10.1)...
Only solution I found: The "Nine" app works very nicely (14 days free, US$9.99 therafter) and easily connects to the exachange server and leads to synchronization of emails, contacs, calendar, notes and tasks! So the problem lies within the Android 4.4.2 email program!
Let's cross fingers that Google is addressing / solving that issue soon!
Best regards, UP

Have you manually updated to the latest Google exchange apk? It's available in this post regarding the new Gmail 5.0 and Exchange 5.0 apks. http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...-support-material-design-landed-apk-download/
Keep in mind that there is an ever newer version of the Gmail 5.0 apk that has been released, so double check your version number before updating that specific apk. But the exchange apk is the latest that has been released.
These updates have allowed me to connect to my work's Exchange server through gmail. So not only does the exchange connection seem to be working, the gmail app has been updated to allow these types of accounts to be added. It's nice to have one gmail interface where I can access all my gmail and exchange (and Imap, pop, etc) email accounts.

Hi,
I updated the email and the exchange APK files - all POP/IMAP access works fine but the exchange server is not reachable (it is, however, reachable via the browser app) - so I am still locked into the NINE app that works pretty nicely (I wonder why Google is not able to provide a similarly easy and functional app...).
