According to a trusted source via IntoMobile, the SDK for Android Gingerbread version 2.3 will debut on November 11th. What makes us sure that this rumor may be very true that Samsung is holding an event in New York next week on the 8th to launch Gingerbread-powered Nexus Two.

Well obviously that aint gonna happen since the Nexus One supports Gingerbread right? And basicly our Desire is a re-made Nexus One with enhancements so GB is supported by our device.. unless GB wont be out even for the Nexus One in the first place?

I think it's up to HTC to decide...
But if N1 gets 2.3, then Desire also should...
Someone will port it over in the next month or two. So be patient.
Would make sense to release Gingerbread for the Christmas season.
Aren't we suppose to be getting the new sense by Xmas?, so we will atleast get the new sense, if HTC don't do another HTC hero episode haha

Seems like a massive hint that it is coming very soon. Basically, Adobe have screamed 'update flash or it wont work on your shiny new gingerbread!'

Not convinced that it means Gingerbread is coming at the same time... I think Flash are probably just more prepared that most other apps
I'm surprised so many apps keep coming out without any app2sd support from FroYo still - e.g. the facebook update that went from 3mb to 5mb installed of which 4mb of that could probably happily be on the SD card...
There is a member of the Open Handset Alliance who said on twitter that the nexus One will get gingerbread within the next days. (source: androidpolice.com) So this is probably proof that the Nexus One will get Gingerbread. If the nexus one is capable of running it, the desire should also. So it's up to HTC I guess... I would already be happy with the new sense.

Ok that does sound hopeful...
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetrev...d-23-is-gingerbread-headed-to-nexus-one/19742
It's probably a good thing though that it is being classed as 2.3 and not 3.0 - because I am sure I read somewhere that google said that by 3.0 they'd do away with the UI's like TouchWiz and HTC Sense.
Gives a little more hope that this update will come to the Desire
Can only hope for the best. I would realy like the offical gingerbread on Desire.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Gingerbread + New Sense UI update.
I thought 2.3 was coming with the new nexus two?? samsung phone, now that might mess the nexus one and desire up for the update but no specs released yet for the N2

There's an article saying it was coming out for Nexus Two, but because of delays with the handset, Google are pushing on with 2.3 for Nexus One good news for us!

Umm, maybe because it is a phone two years old?
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using XDA App.
Mate I reckon it's the screen resolution. Explorer is 320x480 so they can sense up ICS. They could offer this rom to the desire users (in theory) but it'll look like poop on the 480x800 screen with low resolution sense. To bump all the sense stuff up to desire resolution is too big for 512.
Just a thought.

Actually, the entire desire family is a mess.
Desire - Proven to be able to run sense 2.1 and gingerbread but not updated to sense 2.1 and gingerbread
Desire HD- Can run Sense 4.0 and ICS, not being planned to update to sense 4.0 and ICS
Desire S - Same as DHD
Incredible S - Same as DHD
Desire Z- Not even updated to sense 3.0 and 2.3.5
Sensation XL is just a overclocked DHD*
HTC are in the business of making phones.........not supporting 2 year old models who they would like them to sign up for the latest handsets.Been said before and its a fact.

You know what would be smart? If google only made two android phones that worked with the next update. One with physical keyboard, one without. Only difference.
And here's something you probably didn't think of as a benefit of that. Over time, communities like XDA would ditch their old phones, and start using the only android phone. Then, there would be a HUGE AMOUNT of support for literally anything that we could think of for Android, and it would ALL WORK all the time, because Android would be universal. Anything at all. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the combined devs on XDA developed a holographic projector out of that phone.
But, sadly, I don't think Google will do that. Oh well. They sure as hell would start pulling people from the iPhone and not push them towards it if they did.

HTC had the code of Jelly Bean some weeks before official presentation.
Google introduced the Android PDK with Jelly Bean: http://androidandme.com/2012/06/news/googles-android-pdk-could-mean-quicker-updates-for-consumers/
I just read xmoo's update of his experience with a HOX XE device, and I'd not be too sure if HTC would really provide an OTA update incl. S-OFF.
Maybe the update will make S-OFF easier to achieve, but in the past it usually did not, or am I wrong?
I can't imagine, given every other communication from HTC up until now, that they'd suddenly decide to allow users full access to the previously restricted areas of the phone.
And even assuming that they did, I definitely can't see them pushing this ability to all users rather than providing a specific warranty-voiding tool to do so.
That, combined with the fact that he says there'll be a new kernel included as if that's something special rather than a routine part of any update, makes me think that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Original posts and conversations sound like BS. Anyone who actually had that kind of information wouldn't be sharing it publicly like that.
We have every reason to believe that HTC HAS had the Jelly Bean PDK for some time. Google specifically said that major OEMs have already had access to it for a while, and if HTC isn't a major OEM, I don't know who is.
And finally, HTC has already said that if they were to give us S-OFF, which is possible in the future, it would be through HTC-Dev.

So this person interrupted the OPs thread with a valuable PSA to stop what's he's doing because JB's going to be out soon and it's going to be great? The 2.05 leak has been out for weeks and there's still no deployable version. The thread interrupter, if credible, would know how slowly the wheels of progress move at HTC and s/he'd also know about and probably be active on XDA. Saying something unsupported like that here would get him/her chewed up and spit out.
It seems more like someone looking for validation of how important they are than providing any real "news." Hell, I could go on G+ and say I've heard from a credible source that JB won't be released until January. No one would believe that even though it's no more or less credible because everyone wants to think JB is just around the corner. Samsung had the earliest access of any manufacturer to ICS because of the GN. How many months after that did it take for any of their own devices to get the update?
History is the best predictor of when we'll get JB and its months, not days and weeks. All these Sasquatch sightings being reported from non-credible sources aren’t going to make it happen any faster.
I take it we're all at the same conclusion, the guys talking rubbish.
I'll keep helping the person who wants to root on here instead of g+, at least on here people help and share instead of trying to stall

BTW, I think it's terrific that you take the time to help novices 1:1 to be able to get the most from their phones. XDA used to be like that before it became the place for people to gossip, *****, argue, and seek their 15 minutes of fame.
Having come to the end of two years with my desire I'm due an upgrade. I'm holding on for a phone coming out later this year. Meanwhile I decided to be adventurous and change my one and only rom that has served me so well, miuxj. I check out Evervolv 3.0.3.p7 Jellybean that is "pre-beta" and I kid you not.... I have a new phone. It is an awesome rom. I am actually shocked and pleasantly surprised that the end is better than the beginning! Makes hanging on to my desire sweeter while this rom is being developed. These developers are like artists at work, thankyou guys!

Same experience with CronMod CM7/AOSP
I had official gingerbread ROM for two years - it was stable, quick enough... well, I was almost happy with that.
Of course, with decreasing free memory I started to think about custom ROM.
And I'll tell you one thing... IT'S AMAZING
I fell for CronMod-bravo (CM7/AOSP), with ICS theme for ADW launcher and it looks like a brand new phone, with lockscreen gestures and mods, customizable row and column counts (now I've got 5x5 icon grid on screen) and lots more... and lots of free memory! I'm using Sandisk Class 10 microSD card, with 1.5GB EXT3 partition... and installing every app I had to uninstall before because of low memory
Now I'm looking forward to stable ICS release, Sandvold or Spazedog... whatever comes first

Haha, the wildmild series is impressive, but the cm branch leaves the oxygens in the dust with the right customisations

I haven't tried jelly bean yet, I've been using Lords ice cold sandwich and been pretty happy with it. I haven't even looked into jelly bean yet, maybe it's time I take a look at it with your raving reviews

Sent from my HTC Desire
All kinds of FC's
Nonworking camera, video playback with haxxxezz
3G connection issues
soft reboots
reboots when you answer a call with alternative lockscreen from EVT
project butter in ur wet dreams
enough?
Not to mention what jmcclue here said. Plus the environment where you are not supposed to post any bugs, non workings etc where that
seriously hinders development. I know devs these days for sure know what are the intelectual capacities of ppl drooling all over things which convert HTC Desire to HTC 0,7 Desire, but Halls of shame etc. Really? I don't remember we were treated that way by Leedroid, Neophyte, Sibere, Droidzone, melethorn or any other ol sk00l developer here which actually improved your phones functionality when they delivered. And then there were morons among their quorum, but neither of them deleted their account here iirc because of that.
You are not supposed to stop using waht you want on your phones. U r supposed to stop suggesting things even yourselves don't know what works and what does not to other people as daily drivers.
I'm no expert. I've only ever tried 2 roms on my phone, miui xj - a work of art in my opinion, and the Jellybean pre-alpha p7 which to me is a serious upgrade in speed and smoothness.

No, HTC officially changed the release date to the day after tomorrow.

Matthew, the "tomorrow" thing is an inside joke from another thread. The idea is that HTC will release an ICS update tomorrow but tomorrow will never come because by then it will be today.
HTC hasn't announced any release dates since missing the August deadline. They haven't officially said they won't update, but at this point it appears HTC and Verizon have quietly abandoned our phone.

Crap we have went from never getting it to never getting it plus a day. We cant catch a break around here.
You're out of luck.
They stopped updating that DINC2 awhile ago. I suggest flashing a new ROM.
Even CM7 is missing the love. Last merge was middle of December. Although they did post a New Year's nightly build.

Well tomorrow I'll learn Linux and java and c and c++ and I'll make a kick ass ROM that's 4.2 oh and the phone will have teleportation capabilities.

It's not that easy...
LMAO!!!
I sort of envy the Thunderbolt owners.
I don't envy them their phone, but their imminent ICS update.

Why does everyone think they said we will get the update in August, technically they said they will decide by then if they will release the update to us, kind of using lawyer terms to keep them from commiting to an actual deadline. So technically they havent missed the deadline and it could be 100 years from now and they still wouldnt have lied, nkt agreeing with their practices, actually their deceipt disgusts me...

Update to be released tomorrow. See other thread for more on this. Stay tuned.

I wish. I loved Froyo. Someone should make a Froyo ROM for the Inc2.

There was a PlainJane Froyo ROM, but all the links are dead and it's super old.

Or somebody could port the OTA (I posted) from the O.G. Incredible that was announced.

That's just a bugfix, though, not an ICS upgrade. Maybe a little bit closer would be the Thunderbolt ICS OTA that's announced, but even that doesn't matter because what the devs need is the ICS kernel source for the DInc2. Nothing else will help.
