Despite him not having any information confirming that what he is saying may be legit there's still a possibility.
Considering the fact that the 2.05 test update has been leaked a while back now makes me believe that all options are on the table.

HTC had the code of Jelly Bean some weeks before official presentation.
Google introduced the Android PDK with Jelly Bean: http://androidandme.com/2012/06/news/googles-android-pdk-could-mean-quicker-updates-for-consumers/
I just read xmoo's update of his experience with a HOX XE device, and I'd not be too sure if HTC would really provide an OTA update incl. S-OFF.
Maybe the update will make S-OFF easier to achieve, but in the past it usually did not, or am I wrong?
I can't imagine, given every other communication from HTC up until now, that they'd suddenly decide to allow users full access to the previously restricted areas of the phone.
And even assuming that they did, I definitely can't see them pushing this ability to all users rather than providing a specific warranty-voiding tool to do so.
That, combined with the fact that he says there'll be a new kernel included as if that's something special rather than a routine part of any update, makes me think that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Jelly bean hasn't been in a functional state for all that long. Most of the builds would have something major broken.

Original posts and conversations sound like BS. Anyone who actually had that kind of information wouldn't be sharing it publicly like that.
We have every reason to believe that HTC HAS had the Jelly Bean PDK for some time. Google specifically said that major OEMs have already had access to it for a while, and if HTC isn't a major OEM, I don't know who is.
And finally, HTC has already said that if they were to give us S-OFF, which is possible in the future, it would be through HTC-Dev.

So this person interrupted the OPs thread with a valuable PSA to stop what's he's doing because JB's going to be out soon and it's going to be great? The 2.05 leak has been out for weeks and there's still no deployable version. The thread interrupter, if credible, would know how slowly the wheels of progress move at HTC and s/he'd also know about and probably be active on XDA. Saying something unsupported like that here would get him/her chewed up and spit out.
It seems more like someone looking for validation of how important they are than providing any real "news." Hell, I could go on G+ and say I've heard from a credible source that JB won't be released until January. No one would believe that even though it's no more or less credible because everyone wants to think JB is just around the corner. Samsung had the earliest access of any manufacturer to ICS because of the GN. How many months after that did it take for any of their own devices to get the update?
History is the best predictor of when we'll get JB and its months, not days and weeks. All these Sasquatch sightings being reported from non-credible sources aren’t going to make it happen any faster.
I take it we're all at the same conclusion, the guys talking rubbish.
I'll keep helping the person who wants to root on here instead of g+, at least on here people help and share instead of trying to stall

BTW, I think it's terrific that you take the time to help novices 1:1 to be able to get the most from their phones. XDA used to be like that before it became the place for people to gossip, *****, argue, and seek their 15 minutes of fame.

According to a trusted source via IntoMobile, the SDK for Android Gingerbread version 2.3 will debut on November 11th. What makes us sure that this rumor may be very true that Samsung is holding an event in New York next week on the 8th to launch Gingerbread-powered Nexus Two.

But if N1 gets 2.3, then Desire also should...
Someone will port it over in the next month or two. So be patient.
Would make sense to release Gingerbread for the Christmas season.
Aren't we suppose to be getting the new sense by Xmas?, so we will atleast get the new sense, if HTC don't do another HTC hero episode haha

Seems like a massive hint that it is coming very soon. Basically, Adobe have screamed 'update flash or it wont work on your shiny new gingerbread!'
Sent from my GT-P1000
Not convinced that it means Gingerbread is coming at the same time... I think Flash are probably just more prepared that most other apps
I'm surprised so many apps keep coming out without any app2sd support from FroYo still - e.g. the facebook update that went from 3mb to 5mb installed of which 4mb of that could probably happily be on the SD card...
There is a member of the Open Handset Alliance who said on twitter that the nexus One will get gingerbread within the next days. (source: androidpolice.com) So this is probably proof that the Nexus One will get Gingerbread. If the nexus one is capable of running it, the desire should also. So it's up to HTC I guess... I would already be happy with the new sense.

Ok that does sound hopeful...
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetrev...d-23-is-gingerbread-headed-to-nexus-one/19742
It's probably a good thing though that it is being classed as 2.3 and not 3.0 - because I am sure I read somewhere that google said that by 3.0 they'd do away with the UI's like TouchWiz and HTC Sense.
Gives a little more hope that this update will come to the Desire
Can only hope for the best. I would realy like the offical gingerbread on Desire.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Gingerbread + New Sense UI update.

Droid Incredible 2 in China??? Wha? Or is it the Incredible S?
EDIT: So it seems China has the Dinc2 wrapped as a different device... I thought CDMA was a doomed technology that stupid carriers (ahem: Verizon, Sprint in US and few in other parts of the world) used... Welcome, China... So now we know why HTC put that ambiguous statement on their site. Sh*tty Verizon at it again, trying to spoil my summer...
P.S: I confirmed from HTC facebook that Dinc2 on VZW will get ICS at worst by August.. They are trying to figure out a time frame for it VZW derped again!

Ahhh there's the reason. I believe as an ex iphone user he'll never be happy unless htc put out one phone every 1-2 years that looks exactally the same as the last one. :silly:
Plus there's a contradiction in his sentence. As he states he is bored of the new phones htc put out every year but he's much happier to get a new Note 2 from a different manufacturer ie a new phone. But wait this is only to last until next when he''ll try something new!
I told U that every htc move will be a trolling campaign. That mean htc is on the right way...

Ah, the grand "farewell." I guess it's no different than the grand "I dropped my phone," "let me share my repair experience," and the "my ____ isn't working, anyone else" when the latter has half a dozen threads already opened. Look at it this way, if all the people that are miserable, dissatisfied, and aren't pleased with HTC leave imagine how much more productive this forum will be.
Is it just me, but the selection of roms for the Onex very bad. My last device HTC Desire they was 100's roms for it. But the Onex is very limited and even the couple that is there all have bugs like random restarts etc
Is the Dev community for the Onex just dead? Dont think I will ever get a Tegra device again.

No I talking about the time of using that device, it had 100's roms. From Sense to AOSP, MIUI loads.

Aokp not stable? Give me a break please! Not one reboot in weeks and everything works great! Using that ROM for about a half year now

I not complaining, I just stating the truth that compared to my last phone the select of Roms isn't as good. And I dont have the skill to build a Rom, so dont make it out like I slagging of the guys here who have built the Roms so far.
The Work put into the Onex has been superb, like I said I just pointing out the select isn't as good.

Then you very lucky... I have had and this isn't just one AOSP Rom and its not just me who have reported these issues.
Data connection stops working " Reboot Needed"
Random Reboot
Music skipping on playback
Alarm not working "this is whats made me go back to sense lol "
Now you prob think its my Phone, but I have never had any of these issue with a sense Rom.

You have a link please?
Well then we have a difference in opinion wich we both are entiltled to
I think there is more than enough to choose from, and also stable. I have tried many different roms without errors and some that needed a bit more development. But that's exactly what this site is about. Its not a HTC factory wich contains all bugfree roms and apps
All ment in a good way. Sorry for the inconvenience or my choice of words.

This should work http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/3-7-19.21395/
I installed a few aokp roms, they all were very good, fast stable and high costumable, the only thing that I don't need them for daily use is the relativ high accudrain. There are the senseroms more better....don't know why?

Hello good folks, was hopping somebody can help me here.
I have been using htc phones for years, I mean like 10 years almost.
long story short, just got a One max and I'm having an issue with the smilies when receiving text messages. For some reason when the wife sends me smilies in text, they don't show up as the image/smilies, they show up as just text, so that I'm clear, for example if you sent me this smile , it would show up as the text "", is there a setting some where I'm missing?
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the htc one, I came from the htc rezound (old as heck) and I have more features on that phone then I do on this one
I thank you all for your time and help.
Sorry, this Forum is for the HTC One, Verizon version, not the Max.

What phone does your wife have? I know for example my fiance had the iPhone when I got the HTC One and when she would send me emoticons they would show up as text, with the update to 4.4.2 my device started recognizing the emoticons because 4.4.2 used the same coding as IOS used for emoticons.

The One Max wasn't really built with "features" in mind, it's just a giant HTC One. If you want a big phone with tons of features you need a Note 3. Anyway, you can get a lot more use from it once you get it unlocked and start flashing roms. Try installing a different keyboard (like Swiftkey) and see if the emoticons start showing up.
The image smiles were always a sense thing, I've had the Droid incredible 2, incredible 4G LTE, the Droid DNA, and now the one, and in all other HTC phones I've had, with the exception of the incredible 2, I always had image smiles, but not with the one. I even ram a 4.2.2 sense 5 ROM on my DNA and it had them. But the 4.4.2 stock doesn't. It's really no big deal to me but I do miss it lol. So yeah I'm having the same issue. The sense 5 ROM I had on my DNA was a One port I'm pretty sure. It was the viperDNA. Oh well just thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth lol

Yeah but when they updated to 4.4.2 they updated the smiley images to the exact same ones thats on the iPhone so they work cross platforms now.

How lame -_- also I know this is completely off topic, but can a sense 4+ ROM from like the Droid DNA be ported to this phone(once I get my phone rooted and unlocked)? I know you're reading this and like "why the beck is this guy wanting to port a sense 4+ ROM to the one??!!" I personally love sense 4. I know it is super laggy, not to mention old as crap, but I will always have a special place in my heart for sense 4. Lol

You aren't the first one I've heard ask this actually, but it would be really difficult to pull off as far as I know so unless you're buddy buddy with a developer it probably won't ever happen. I'd be interested to see it since this is my first HTC device so I've only ever been on Sense 5.5
