Umm, maybe because it is a phone two years old?
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using XDA App.

Mate I reckon it's the screen resolution. Explorer is 320x480 so they can sense up ICS. They could offer this rom to the desire users (in theory) but it'll look like poop on the 480x800 screen with low resolution sense. To bump all the sense stuff up to desire resolution is too big for 512.
Just a thought.

Indeed.. it seems people want phones to be updated for all eternity.
We were lucky to even get GB officially.
If you want the latest then you just have to root and install a custom rom.

Nah, it was merely a buggered 'developer' update. That probably means developers were meant to iron out bugs etc.

Aren't all the Desire update problems because they can't change the HBOOT size OTA though? It's impossibility, not laziness and lack of customer support.

It's due to the internal memory and how it's partitioned. It simply won't fit.

Actually, the entire desire family is a mess.
Desire - Proven to be able to run sense 2.1 and gingerbread but not updated to sense 2.1 and gingerbread
Desire HD- Can run Sense 4.0 and ICS, not being planned to update to sense 4.0 and ICS
Desire S - Same as DHD
Incredible S - Same as DHD
Desire Z- Not even updated to sense 3.0 and 2.3.5
Sensation XL is just a overclocked DHD*

HTC are in the business of making phones.........not supporting 2 year old models who they would like them to sign up for the latest handsets.Been said before and its a fact.

According to a trusted source via IntoMobile, the SDK for Android Gingerbread version 2.3 will debut on November 11th. What makes us sure that this rumor may be very true that Samsung is holding an event in New York next week on the 8th to launch Gingerbread-powered Nexus Two.

Seems like a massive hint that it is coming very soon. Basically, Adobe have screamed 'update flash or it wont work on your shiny new gingerbread!'

Not convinced that it means Gingerbread is coming at the same time... I think Flash are probably just more prepared that most other apps
I'm surprised so many apps keep coming out without any app2sd support from FroYo still - e.g. the facebook update that went from 3mb to 5mb installed of which 4mb of that could probably happily be on the SD card...
There is a member of the Open Handset Alliance who said on twitter that the nexus One will get gingerbread within the next days. (source: androidpolice.com) So this is probably proof that the Nexus One will get Gingerbread. If the nexus one is capable of running it, the desire should also. So it's up to HTC I guess... I would already be happy with the new sense.

It's probably a good thing though that it is being classed as 2.3 and not 3.0 - because I am sure I read somewhere that google said that by 3.0 they'd do away with the UI's like TouchWiz and HTC Sense.
Gives a little more hope that this update will come to the Desire
Can only hope for the best. I would realy like the offical gingerbread on Desire.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Gingerbread + New Sense UI update.

There's an article saying it was coming out for Nexus Two, but because of delays with the handset, Google are pushing on with 2.3 for Nexus One good news for us!

Which one is lighter: Sense 3.6 or Sense 4.0?

I don't really get the difference between Sense 3.6 and 4.0, only thing that I see is that Sense 3.6 is a 3.5 with a dock and toggles, and 4.0 being a major overhaul.
Both are running over ICS, of course.
But going by that train of taught, there would not be any performance difference between 3.5 and 3.6, as opposed to what HTC have said about 4.0.
So, does 3.6 have any links with 4.0, or is it just 3.5 with a pretty face?
Sense 3.6's intent was to update to ICS, yet to preserve the Sense 3.x layout users were accustomed to.
I had a look between Sense 3.0 and Sense 3.6 benchmarks and 3.6 was a bit faster, but that's about it. I'm not sure about memory consumption but it'd probably spend similar amounts.
To me, atleast, there's no point in using sense 3.6, as it seems like it's pretty much like sense 3.5 , just compiled for ICS. sense 4.0 is the way to go IMO
HTC themselves said Sense 4 would be lighter than previous generations simply because of the fact that Sense became heavier and heavier as time passed.
Good to see they finally reacted and fixed things.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
Yes, I understood that Sense 4.0 is lighter than 3.0
But 3.6 blew me. I see it as a Sense 3.5 with a dock slapped to it.

That has been alpha build for a while now and there are sever other builds here. I haven't had much success with any of the ICS / Sense builds with H/W keyboard issues being the main failing. Can you recommend any ICS / Sense roms that don't have that issue?
It's been barely two weeks ever since the devs started working on those. Currently there's no rom that has this fixed, but it will be adressed soon.

That's hard to say because it's all very subjective. One person may prefer one ROM release over another.
A good bet is the IceCold AOKP or SlimICS ROM .. or ... the CyanogenMod 9 Beta 2 ROM by tbalden or TripNRaver's CM9 release.
You have to try them all and see which one you like best. This is a very subjective matter.
I recommend using Android revolution and then running rom cleaner no-sense, it removes most of sense and keeps the best bits

There currently is a Jellybean AOSP rom available, there's just a few things that are currently not working atm.
If you want to maximize everything that works you'd want to try:
Jdr0id's rom
Renovate
ViperX
Venomous beatmod
ARHD
If you really want to go aosp id say:
paranoidandro
SlimICS
Cm9
That's probably the best ones I've tried but pure aosp roms have alot of thing not working so go for a less-sensed roms for now.
Just my opinion
Typed with XDA Premium on OneX

After 2 years + with my desire, then "Bam!" it's suddenly like a new phone!

Having come to the end of two years with my desire I'm due an upgrade. I'm holding on for a phone coming out later this year. Meanwhile I decided to be adventurous and change my one and only rom that has served me so well, miuxj. I check out Evervolv 3.0.3.p7 Jellybean that is "pre-beta" and I kid you not.... I have a new phone. It is an awesome rom. I am actually shocked and pleasantly surprised that the end is better than the beginning! Makes hanging on to my desire sweeter while this rom is being developed. These developers are like artists at work, thankyou guys!

Same experience with CronMod CM7/AOSP
I had official gingerbread ROM for two years - it was stable, quick enough... well, I was almost happy with that.
Of course, with decreasing free memory I started to think about custom ROM.
And I'll tell you one thing... IT'S AMAZING
I fell for CronMod-bravo (CM7/AOSP), with ICS theme for ADW launcher and it looks like a brand new phone, with lockscreen gestures and mods, customizable row and column counts (now I've got 5x5 icon grid on screen) and lots more... and lots of free memory! I'm using Sandisk Class 10 microSD card, with 1.5GB EXT3 partition... and installing every app I had to uninstall before because of low memory
Now I'm looking forward to stable ICS release, Sandvold or Spazedog... whatever comes first

Haha, the wildmild series is impressive, but the cm branch leaves the oxygens in the dust with the right customisations

I haven't tried jelly bean yet, I've been using Lords ice cold sandwich and been pretty happy with it. I haven't even looked into jelly bean yet, maybe it's time I take a look at it with your raving reviews

All kinds of FC's
Nonworking camera, video playback with haxxxezz
3G connection issues
soft reboots
reboots when you answer a call with alternative lockscreen from EVT
project butter in ur wet dreams
enough?
Not to mention what jmcclue here said. Plus the environment where you are not supposed to post any bugs, non workings etc where that
seriously hinders development. I know devs these days for sure know what are the intelectual capacities of ppl drooling all over things which convert HTC Desire to HTC 0,7 Desire, but Halls of shame etc. Really? I don't remember we were treated that way by Leedroid, Neophyte, Sibere, Droidzone, melethorn or any other ol sk00l developer here which actually improved your phones functionality when they delivered. And then there were morons among their quorum, but neither of them deleted their account here iirc because of that.
You are not supposed to stop using waht you want on your phones. U r supposed to stop suggesting things even yourselves don't know what works and what does not to other people as daily drivers.
I'm no expert. I've only ever tried 2 roms on my phone, miui xj - a work of art in my opinion, and the Jellybean pre-alpha p7 which to me is a serious upgrade in speed and smoothness.

I changed the ROM after one year and now (after two years) its time to change hboot from stock to cm7r2

Sense 5 needs Hboot update which we do not have and its not possible to get it at the moment
soooo youre saying once we get s-off we may be able to get a port?
If we get s off it MAY be possible to update hboot but as for sense 5, it would be a long, hard work, and it seems less heavy but just look at the moving gallery, that's heavy as...

What are you all talking about.. s off will not be related to an hboot upgrade. Only hyc can provide that.
Also, as ckpv5 said, the ROM CAN be ported over, but there'll be no audio or WiFi working.

When did I talk about Sense 5
I remember saying this about porting JB from DX to One V.
Anyway... it is almost impossible for Sense 5 to run on One V; don't even know whether Sense 4+ can runs too or not...still waiting the JB update for DX.

hTC stopped rolling out the JB OTA due to audio problem.
Hopefully they will fix it and start to roll out the OTA within this month

Based on experience on the old hTC Desire, yes... we can change all the hboot partition size.
And it would allow us to make unofficial updates?

Never experience that but we can run any RUU.
Unfortunately the RUU distribution now stopped by hTC, I personally don't see s-off is really useful other than resizing partition.
I'm not dying for s off, actually, I don't care, I find myself pretty good the way it is now
