[Q] Screen Unlocking Problem. - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hello all! I have a problem with my TP2’s unlocking “feature”. I am very aware of the magnetic leather case issue, I found that out when I attempted to purchase a case and my screen went nutty. This has been a annoying more than anything. The phone is only 3 months old. I have tried a full Hard Reset, and I’m currently running on of MR X’s rom, so I don’t believe it’s a software issue. There is nothing magnetic around me when it happens. I just dial people randomly now. I can see theres a registry edit, but I really want to keep the original function of unlocking with opening the keyboard, and pulling the stylus out. I’m thinking that I’ll have to do the registry edit or end up with a locker app, like throttle locker. But I always check here 1st, for suggestions. Thanks for any info or help you can give. P.S. This was a brand new replacement phone, and is about 3 months old. It has only been doing this for a few weeks now, but it started way before any "tweaking".

Ok, I 1/2 figured it out. If I Touch the screen the wrong way, and it turns the smallest amount clockwise, I can hear a "click" and the screen lights up, and unlocks, as if i opened the phone. My guess is that my screen is wicked loose. But my question is, is it a switch that activates the unlock? I was under the impression, that both the stylus, and the screen slide work off of magnets, and thats what tells it to unlock. But the clicking noise sure does sound like a switch. Thanks Again!

Ok, last time. Its not a switch which knew, but was hoping for. Switches can be easier. As far as the unlocking problem, its amazing how sensitive it is, it seems if i blew on it hard enough it'll unlock. I did the reg edit, which didnt disable my "stylus to wake", which is great, so I'm a happy camper. Someday i'll take it apart. lol

Screen shuts off when slid up!

So... all of a sudden, everytime i slide the screen up, it shuts the screen off. I slide it back, hit the power button a few times, then it turns back on?

Power off your phone, remove the battery and then put it back in, making sure it fits in there snuggly.
That has happened to me, and removing/replacing the battery fixed it.
Yes, as Amy noted this behavior is often attributed to the battery not sitting exactly right in the compartment. Sometimes just popping it out and back in is enough, but some people have reported needeing to slip a small piece of paper or something similar under the battery cover as well to help keep it snug. (It seems that the sliding motion can be enough to shake the battery off the contacts if it's not secure enough).
Let us know if that clears it up
okay. what the deuce.
my tp2 just literally started doing the same.
earlier today it was perfectly fine.
but now.
i slide out the keyboard and the screen goes blank.
i tried the remove battery and restart.
didn't help.
i tried the paper between battery and cover.
didn't help either.
the screen only goes blank when completely slid out.
if i hold it open just before completely open the screen is still on.
any suggestions?
thanks.
Yea, none of those things worked. However, keeping the battery snug helped with the issue of not hearing anything through the handset.
It honestly sounds to me like both of you are dealing with a loose connection between the screen and the motherboard somewhere, either power or video feed, can't say for sure which. Unless you're willing to disassemble your rhodium (which isn't impossible, just complex), it sounds like it's time to send it to a service center (for AT&T) or to HTC, since that would be a warranty repair.
I hope that this is just freak coincidence that both of you had this happen just now, and not a sign that we're all at risk of having the same issue eventually
How long have each of you had your phones?
EDIT: One more question for you guys...whatever is on the display on your screen rotates into landscape before the display shuts off right?

i have own the phone for about three weeks...
though. bought it used from a friend who had it for four months.
but my friend bought it used from somebody too...
aka. not sure how long it has been used.
the display is rotated. and stays on as long as the right side is held.
before the 'tilt piece' is revealed. as soon as it is. the screen goes blank.
and i believe it would be the video feed...
i can still type with the keyboard. just can't see what i am typing.
unless i hold the screen from sliding completely out on the right.
and about the warranty...
would i have a warranty with htc still?
don't have proof of purchase.
just the phone and original box.
thanks.
My AT&T Tilt 2 has been exhibiting this behavior for some weeks now. It seems to be centered around the keyboard slide, but the behavior comes and goes. I found that slamming the phone on the desktop would bring it back to life for a little while, but then it would start to clap out again in a few days. What a pile.
Anyway, I have a fresh one from AT&T to swap out. Now all I have to do is get all my applications and stuff transferred over to the new phone before sending the craprod back to them.

Oh boy...yeah I didn't realize you'd gotten it third-hand. Well it has been less than a year since the Rhodium was released, so it's possible that HTC will still honor the 1-year manufacturer's warranty, but I can't guarantee it. My suggestion would be to just contact HTC America's service group (1-888-617-1113) and see what they say.
Best case: they agree to cover the repair
Worst case: an example of one of the risks you take when you buy something through "unofficial" channels
Yea luckily for me, I bought it second hand, but it was purchased from a retail store, meaning I got a warranty exchange. I just sent it back.
having same issue
im having same issue, when the phone is slid open, goes black, nothing gets it back on, the buttons light up, display dead
however, if i place it in stand by via power button in regular mode, then slide it open, it works, ive rattled and shook the phone, never goes back off, im typing this with it open and tilted....
any ideas?
prob leaving the htc community, samsung captivate, blackberry torch, or htc aria are my choices from at

Does the EVO have the magnet sensitivity when in a case???

My Blackberry's had a magnet sensitivity or something that when in a case/holster,etc it would go into a "screen off" mode, or if enabled "locked".
Does anyone know if the EVO has this same thing. I absolutely hate having to continuously push the power button to get the screen to come on when I take it out of my pocket and would love to get a case if this works. It would be cool that the screen would automatically turn off when putting in case, and when pulling out, the screen would come on and all I would have to do is swipe to unlock it.
I searched around but couldn't find anything related to my question... THANKS
sounds like what you really need is another blackberry.
I believe there is some type of sensor present, but it is used to put the device into carkit mode. I've already had this go haywire and had to get a replacement EVO. With the open source opportunities our devices present I'm sure someone could change the function of this sensor with time, but at present I don't believe this function is present.
Yeah, nothing like that as of yet, but I don't see why someone couldn't build it in. There are only two issues that I could see arise from this though:
Issue 1: If you ever bring your phone close to a magnet, won't it lock it? I know, how rare could that happen, but still.
Second: You would have to have either an app running at all times to detect this, and thus further diminish your battery life or you would need it built into android. Good luck with the latter, but the former is probably doable (kind of like the Motorola Droid's docking station thingies.)
All the app would need to do is detect the magnetic pull and lock the phone, then when goes away while in a locked state it unlocks it.
Either way, there's nothing out as of yet, and I doubt there will be, so don't hold your breath.
Edit: Oh yeah, and I wonder if maybe RIM has this idea patented? If so, then you'll never see it. I'll bet it's patented since I don't know of any other phone that does it. Though, my knowledge of phones is limited, still...

Need help from an expert

So my phones earpiece began to cut in and out, which I found to be a chafed and broken flex cable. No biggie, I ordered a replacement piece and waited for it to show. As I waited the phone began to get worse, I lost the earpiece entirely, the leds stopped working as well as the sleep button. The screen, now only able to be woken by sliding, would not come on when slid out, but only once it returned..also the screen would shut off when I would slide it out again.
I have seen disassembled the phone again and installed the new cable and all is well, with one exception. The slide function of the screen no longer works, period. It will not wake, it will not rotate, and the keyboard doesnt illuminate unless I press a key. I have been through this phone 4 more times now and I simply cannot pin down exactly what tells the phone that it has been slid. I have heard talk of magnets, but found no sensor or magnet, I saw small contacts..that are all functioning properly. There is no cable or connection to the screen portion that connects to any sort of switch that I can see.
Does anyone know what triggers the slide?!
Sorry mate, im not an expert but I thought this may help.

The link is to the FCC website showing links to internal photos of the phone, SAR values, micellaneous stuff, etc.
Maybe a different perspective of the phone might help.
Hope this helps you

[Q] how does the touch screen work ?

After the sprint service reset my phone and killed my calender, I got an automated message asking if my problem was resolved. Well then I pulled over and brang up the dialing pad on the screen and started trying to press the numbers but as with 90% of the time they do not work. I started licking my fingers and pressing on the display and started *****ing and my 17 year old daughter asks my what I am doing , she than says why don't you calibrate my display. That would be great if there was one! She has. An lg touch and hers has one but mine don't she asks? Now I need to know how to make mine work before I poke my finger through the screen. I can't even hang up the phone 50% of the time. Is there a secret way to use this touch screen or do I just have to use the right finger and licking my fingers to make it work just ain't right.
Capacitive touch screens, do not need to be calibrated, unlike their cheaper cousins, and if you are having accuracy issues you need to either Odin the phone or bring it to Sprint and let them do it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitive_sensing
Licking your fingers?!? That's totally unnecessary good sir/ma'am. Capacitive screens work by picking up the electrical charge that we have in our bodies. So when we touch the screen, that charge is sent to the display, the sensor and cpu do their thing and figure out where the screen was pressed. That's why you can't use the screen with gloves on (like winter gloves). Anyway, it just sounds like the phone is acting wacky.
Have you just tried rebooting to see if that fixed it? Or turning the screen on and off a few times? My phone acts weird on the lock screen sometimes and just turning off the screen fixes it.
There are a few threads here that address accelerometer problems but if the screen is just not picking up your touch, you may want to take it to Sprint.
that would be sir and it is just one of many problems my phone has. I reset it ,sprint reset it, I am crossing my fingers I got a dud . I was suckered onto the shorter waiting list and had the phone since launch day and in the beginning it was told to me by radio shack that android 2.2 was shortly comming and was going to fix all these problems I am having. I love the phone when it is working correctly but now I am just tired of the issues and promisses not being fullfilled. I read the article in the posting and it explaines different kinds of capacitive tec, gut wich one does the epic have. my wifes epic is so sensitive that it senses 1/4 inch away at times. mine is a luck of the draw and her phone is not mine so I dont use hers enough to see if its really better. I *****ed to sprint enough ,and it took this long, that they are sending me a new one. I doubt they are sending me a new one and expect they are sending me a refurbished one to test. I want to make sure its not something like my fingers not having enough energy to sense or cosmic rays are making my page back button go wacky by itself at random when texting or browsing.
Lol, if cosmic rays are bombarding your phone, we all have a lot more to worry about than the responsiveness of your phone! Sounds like you may have just gotten a bad phone. I would be pissed if Sprint tried to give me a refurb phone. There's a command somewhere in the scripting history on the phone that will tell you whether the phone is refurb. I don't know how to do that. I bet someone on this site does though. I guess the bottom line though is that the phone just needs to work.
And to your wife's phone, yes, the phone can be extremely sensitive. Sometimes, I swear that I didn't touch the screen but the screen registers a touch just because my finger was really close to the screen.
Finally, you may want to flash your phone. If you are not comfortable using ODIN or adb, get Sprint to do it. And not just a factory reset through the settings menu. I mean resetting the phone through recovery or download mode. Good luck.

[Q] Captivate Glide: Screen 'redding out', not that old.

Too late to return of course, and the seller on Ebay (bought it new) is retired.
I've had the phone about 4 months now, and like the phone a lot, its fine. Except now suddenly the screen is starting to get a reddish/purplish smeary "hue" around all the icons. This comes and goes.
I've found if I slide the keyboard out briskly and snap it back, the screen will usually (but not always) right itself. But I'm sure that's not going to keep working for long.
The suggestion is a loose video cable or wire somewhere inside. I've found the video below which gives the steps of taking the phone apart for a 'screen repair', but its about as long as an open heart surgery procedure and I don't look forward to risking taking the phone apart any more than I need to.
However.... loose wire? Has anybody seen this, and is there any suggestion for a fix? I have much customization on the phone, and my worst fear is the display will suddenly short out leaving me bricked at a complete loss.
Also, there is a second problem which I have suddenly noticed- the phone will not dial. I tap on a contact and it says "Dialing...", but takes forever for it to begin, or never does (forcing it to reboot). I'm not sure if this is related or not but thought I'd mention.
Thanks much for any suggestions!!
