Broken SD EXT - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi ,
Today I tried to flash new rom (with A2SD) ..
Everything was fine until I turned off the phone .. When I tried to turn on the phone it was stuck on "HTC" Screen .. I think it's mine SD Card EXT .. Because when I tried to do a wipe it's wrote me something like this : error mound sd ext ..
Then I took my old 4GB (without SD EXT) and tried to flash rom without A2SD and it's work just fine now !! But I want to fix my Kingston 16GB CLASS 10 EXT .. and flash rom with A2SD Because now I have modaco R3.1 without A2SD ..
Some one can help me please ? Thanks a lot

Help please

1st I would try to do another full wipe und flash the rom again. It depends on which recovery you are using, older ver of Clockwork cannot wipe your sdext because of mount issues i guess (thats the error you got), but with the newest one you should be able to. (btw: which rom are you trying to flash?)
2nd you could reformat your sdext through rom manager (backup your sdcard!) und then flash the rom.
Let me know if this helps, otherwise i could probably give you some other hints.

Sounds like the A2SD+ bug, was reported many times.

I'm using Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 recovery ..
If I open Rom Manager (with modaco r3.1 without A2SD) and then make again sd ext that will delete the old ext ? Thanks

It will delete your whole sd-card. So you should backup it and then copy it back afterwards. So you are using the newest ver of Clockwork, have you also a permanent recovery flashed (with unrevoked)? Because when you format your sd, your recovery will be gone otherwise until you flash it again.
I would flash a permanent recovery (just for safety - search for unrevoked), partition your sd with rom manager, do a complete wipe and then flash a rom with a2sd+.
That should definitely fix your problem.

Wait I want to understand something ..
Right now I have MoDaCo r3.1 without A2SD with my 4GB (without SD EXT)
I want to flash 2.2 . I had rom with 2.2 and A2SD but something was wrong with my KingSton 16GB and the phone was stuck on HTC screen . I think it's happened because the rom want to move apps to SD EXT .. but I think the SD EXT in Kingston 16GB class 10 is broken .. Because when I flash rom without A2SD (Like modaco r3.1) The phone work great !
I can make a SD EXT on my 4GB and then flash rom with A2SD but I want to fix the SD EXT on my Kingston 16GB class 10 ..
How I can do that befor I will flash rom with A2SD .
Thanks a lot

Or if someone know how I can remove the SD EXT that I have now on my Kingston and than make new one ..Thanks

1. Boot with your 16gb card the rom without A2SD
2. Backup your sdcard
3. Open Rom Manager
4. Choose to Partition your sdcard, sdext 512, swap 0
5. Reinstall Recovery through Rom Manager
6. Reboot into Recovery
7. Wipe
8. Install rom with A2sd / A2sd+

Thanks a lot ! I will try it later

[Q] Starting off new ?

Hello everyone,
I have rooted my Desire a long time ago, now I want to try out a few custom ROMs. However, I think I made a few mistakes because Data2SD doesn't work for me.
Can i just start off new ? For example just running UnrevokedĀ³ again ?
If yes : Why doesn't UnrevokedĀ³ work ? It just says "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?". Currently I have installed Android 2.3.3 SuperNova ROM. My H-BOOT version is "HBOOT-0.75.0000". I think my Display is SLCD.
Thanks in advance !
Cheers Limette =)
if you are already rooted, this is what unrevoked should show.
anyway, your root was succesful, and it has got nothing to do with Data2SD.
if for some reason you think it might not work, make sure you have EXT partition AFTER fat32 one. and make sure it works ok, Gparted for example.
other than that you should provide more info, like what you did with your sdcard (how did you partition it, what layout etc.) and why do you think it is not working.
Thanks for your reply.
Actually I did partition the SD card how the tutorial told me to.
1st partition = ~14GB FAT32
2nd partition = 1GB EXT4
Then I installed the custom ROM and booted once. Then i went into Recovery mode and installed Data2SD installer. Everytihng should be ok so far, but the Phone wont boot after that, even tho the blue LED flashes. So I thought starting off new would be a good idea ^^.
So Umm, now I'm not quite sure what to do :O
Thanks in advance.
Cheers Limette.
well, a good thing to try now is installing some other ROM (possibly one with DATA2XXX already included) and checking if this works
also, what rom are you trying to flash
and have you used any aligment.zip flashable that were supposed to do some cool stuff with your ext ?
I only tried this ROM so far : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824
Here is what I did :
1. Partition my SD card ( 14GB FAT32 primary, 1GB EXT4 primary)
2. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> new radio version
3. Reboot
4. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> SuperNova ROM
5. Reboot
6. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> Data2SD installer
7. Reboot (system is stuck here)
If I remove the SD card the SD card the system will boot and if I dont even install Data2SD system will also boot. It just wont boot if Install Data2SD. I did nothing more.
However, I just tried to install InsertCoin CM7 but that won't even start at all. Thats pretty much the reason why I'm trying to redo all of my first steps. Or do you think my problem is somewhere else?
please let me know if you need more information and thanks for your help so far
Cheers Limette
insertcoin CM7 version would require you to be s-off and running custom hboot (partition layout in phone) so that is why it is not booting up.
try insertcoin A2SD+ STOCK HBOOT, if it works, then your EXT is fine, if not then i suggest you double check it.

Hboot 0.75 means you are still s-on so InsertCoin cm7 will never work for you.
I suggest you to soff (read some tutorial first) and flash cm7 hboot.
Then u will be able to flash IC cm7. With that version u will not need those weird data2something scripts
Thanks for the replies !
I just tried the InsertCoin A2SD v20 ROM its booting but its not working correctly. I get crash messages like every 3 seconds
"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I might try to S-OFF my phone after i read the tutorial. But until then, do you guys know what I did wrong ?
Cheers Limette
Few people with hboot below 0.93 experienced some problems with installing gb roms.
1. What is your recovery? AmonRa or CWM and what version?
2. Would you consider using Froyo rom? They are extremely optimized and stable, while gb still have some glitches.
3. You can of course s-off, but i'd check/repartition sd card first. Stick with ext3 partition for now, a bit more support for it if you get mad with flashing different roms

1. CWM v2.5.0.1
2. I used a Froyo ROM for like 9 months now ^^ So I want to try Gingerbread out ^^
3. I'll try to repartition my SD card with Ext3 , if that won't help I'll try to S-OFF my Phone.
I'll let you know if it worked.
Cheers Limette.
I managed to Fix the Error message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I accidentally forgot to wipe all data before flashing :$
Thanks for all the help =)
you wrote you have clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.1 ? you sure it is not 2.5.0.7 ?
anyways, both of them are really old, and this can cause bootloops when new updater script is used in a flashable.zip file
since you are S-ON, you cant premanently flash new recovery, but you can fake-flash which is putting clockworkmod_3.0.2.8.zip file on sdcard, and then flashing it while in 2.5.0.7(or .1) and this will boot up the newest version (but you have to do this everytime you enter recovery)
then you can try flashing both ROM you chose and the DATA2SD installer with 3.0.2.8, this might fix it

Do your restore settings even if you use an aosp rom when coming from sense rom or reverse? Partition your sd card directly in recovery or with gparted (both primary). Never use other tools, it seems they cause problems.
I use gParted for my SD Card EXT4- I Restore always Nothing. If i install a new Rom, i fill all manuel I have Time and Emails/SMS ... dont need it ^^
In which order do you create partitions? Are they both set to primary?

Data++ is a technique that was first implemented and tested by ClassicalDude. Using a re-laid out nand MTD, only the davlik-cache is retained in the internal memory. All .apk's are moved to the SD-EXT partition, where they are rarely accessed. This means a HD RoM can be fit in 180MB, leaving a lot of room for userdata which will remain in the internal memory. This results in a lightning fast ROM which stays fast through with no lag whatsoever during market downloads etc. Add to this the cool fix from coolexe and baadnewz that creates a dynamically resizable ram-disk for market downloads: and you have a great RoM that doesn't need to waste space for cache and will never have a market download fail!]/quote]http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992176

A2SD+ is a script which moves all apps you install automatically to an ext partition on your sd card. You must not do anyhting. If you use "move to sd card" in application settings, the app will be moved to fat32 partition of sd card. Android can only difference between apps in " internal memoory" and in "fat32 partition of sd card". Furthermore, with A2SD+ the dalvik-cache will be also moved to the sd ext partition on your sd card (which does not happen, if the rom is only using a2sd).
To sum it up, a2sd+ moves only apps and dalvik-cache to an ext partition on your sdcard, whereas data++ also moves some system apps to it. That's the reason why roms with data++ works with less space for internal system partition.
You can use Ubuntu to partition your sd card. If gparted is not included (I do not remember, installed ubuntu some time ago), you can download it from ubuntu software center (search for "gnome partition editor").
What do you think I should choose ?

I cannot say it, I did not employ with the advantages of each script. Compare both advantages and disadvantages, and then pick.
Last question ^^,
I made a GoldCard to install the official Froyo months ago, now I want to change my microSd to a 8Go one, do I have to make it GoldCard (to install a Custom ROM) ?

No. The goldcard has nothing to do with the rom. It's only connected to sd card. You can stay with the one you have.
Thanks a lot man !!

Please mention the steps u followed while installing the ROM in details?
Do u have a 512+ MB ext4 partition on ur SD card? If you have, then check whether properly partitioned ur SD card thru 4EXT recovery or something.
Ermm I was on another 3.5 sense rom so i decided to flash a different one but my ext partition was too small. i then used partition magic to format and then create a 1gb ext4 partition i then wiped everything and flashed the rom and all i got was a black screen. I wiped the sd card again and formatted it again and put the old rom back on and it didnt boot it just force closed everything so I formatted the card AGAIN and then tried the old rom and it worked. I dont know what im doing wrong ?
Partition your SD card for 1GB ext4 using GPartedLive or 4Ext recovery. You can even check the alignment and health of Fat32 and ext partitions through 4Ext.
Do a clean wipe before you install this.
Stock hboot or CM7/r2?

Running data2sd in cm 10

Hey guys, I recently flashed benjamingwynn's cm 10. I really liked the rom but the rom takes up a lot of space. My internal memory is very low, so even if I use link2sd I was only able to install some apps. Then I tried data2sd from the market. I created a storage file but when I try to mount it, there's nothing happening. Is there any way to make data2sd working? Should I follow any other steps?
Thanks in advance!

Data2sd from market? lol.
Data2sd is a script which is only flashed by installing from recovery or rom manager... Get cronmod int2ext+ script and flash it from recovery. It works pretty well.
I can only repeat sukhjit321, you have to flash it in recovery.
Download this: http://www.mediafire.com/?t1r06j60gybhn2t
Put it on your SD card, then install it from recovery just like a rom (delete cache partition and dalvik cache before).
Or try int2ext+ or something else, but you have to flash all of them in the recovery.

Yes, first make a FAT32 partition, and then an ext4 partition (the ext4 is going to be your internal memory, so make it as big as you want)

Im facing the problems of Low internal memory too...I have tried usinbg Link2Sd but barely helps...again doomed for low internal memory...if i flash data2sd try int2ext+ or something else, i wud have to flash all of them in the recovery by going in recovery mode and the install from SD card..BUT do i have to wipe everything or what i mean to say is do i have to flash the CM10 all over again by deleting everything OR just flashing DATA2SD / int2ext+ wud help.
Beacuse while using Link 2Sd i have already created partiion EXT4 for about 3GB on my 8 GB SD card..
Please suggest how i must do the process ....
Regards ,
Piyush
no...don't flash data2s or int2ext or othe sceipt simultanuslly....lit will cause crash...and u can use your link2sd partition as 2 nd partition....but if after flashing int2ext+ your internal memory dont change and 150 mb than you have to make patition again...sad..
