Hello everyone,
I have rooted my Desire a long time ago, now I want to try out a few custom ROMs. However, I think I made a few mistakes because Data2SD doesn't work for me.
Can i just start off new ? For example just running UnrevokedĀ³ again ?
If yes : Why doesn't UnrevokedĀ³ work ? It just says "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?". Currently I have installed Android 2.3.3 SuperNova ROM. My H-BOOT version is "HBOOT-0.75.0000". I think my Display is SLCD.
Thanks in advance !
Cheers Limette =)
if you are already rooted, this is what unrevoked should show.
anyway, your root was succesful, and it has got nothing to do with Data2SD.
if for some reason you think it might not work, make sure you have EXT partition AFTER fat32 one. and make sure it works ok, Gparted for example.
other than that you should provide more info, like what you did with your sdcard (how did you partition it, what layout etc.) and why do you think it is not working.
Thanks for your reply.
Actually I did partition the SD card how the tutorial told me to.
1st partition = ~14GB FAT32
2nd partition = 1GB EXT4
Then I installed the custom ROM and booted once. Then i went into Recovery mode and installed Data2SD installer. Everytihng should be ok so far, but the Phone wont boot after that, even tho the blue LED flashes. So I thought starting off new would be a good idea ^^.
So Umm, now I'm not quite sure what to do :O
Thanks in advance.
Cheers Limette.
well, a good thing to try now is installing some other ROM (possibly one with DATA2XXX already included) and checking if this works
also, what rom are you trying to flash
and have you used any aligment.zip flashable that were supposed to do some cool stuff with your ext ?
I only tried this ROM so far : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824
Here is what I did :
1. Partition my SD card ( 14GB FAT32 primary, 1GB EXT4 primary)
2. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> new radio version
3. Reboot
4. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> SuperNova ROM
5. Reboot
6. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> Data2SD installer
7. Reboot (system is stuck here)
If I remove the SD card the SD card the system will boot and if I dont even install Data2SD system will also boot. It just wont boot if Install Data2SD. I did nothing more.
However, I just tried to install InsertCoin CM7 but that won't even start at all. Thats pretty much the reason why I'm trying to redo all of my first steps. Or do you think my problem is somewhere else?
please let me know if you need more information and thanks for your help so far
Cheers Limette
insertcoin CM7 version would require you to be s-off and running custom hboot (partition layout in phone) so that is why it is not booting up.
try insertcoin A2SD+ STOCK HBOOT, if it works, then your EXT is fine, if not then i suggest you double check it.

Hboot 0.75 means you are still s-on so InsertCoin cm7 will never work for you.
I suggest you to soff (read some tutorial first) and flash cm7 hboot.
Then u will be able to flash IC cm7. With that version u will not need those weird data2something scripts
Thanks for the replies !
I just tried the InsertCoin A2SD v20 ROM its booting but its not working correctly. I get crash messages like every 3 seconds
"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I might try to S-OFF my phone after i read the tutorial. But until then, do you guys know what I did wrong ?

Few people with hboot below 0.93 experienced some problems with installing gb roms.
1. What is your recovery? AmonRa or CWM and what version?
2. Would you consider using Froyo rom? They are extremely optimized and stable, while gb still have some glitches.
3. You can of course s-off, but i'd check/repartition sd card first. Stick with ext3 partition for now, a bit more support for it if you get mad with flashing different roms

1. CWM v2.5.0.1
2. I used a Froyo ROM for like 9 months now ^^ So I want to try Gingerbread out ^^
3. I'll try to repartition my SD card with Ext3 , if that won't help I'll try to S-OFF my Phone.
I'll let you know if it worked.
Cheers Limette.
I managed to Fix the Error message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I accidentally forgot to wipe all data before flashing :$
Thanks for all the help =)
you wrote you have clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.1 ? you sure it is not 2.5.0.7 ?
anyways, both of them are really old, and this can cause bootloops when new updater script is used in a flashable.zip file
since you are S-ON, you cant premanently flash new recovery, but you can fake-flash which is putting clockworkmod_3.0.2.8.zip file on sdcard, and then flashing it while in 2.5.0.7(or .1) and this will boot up the newest version (but you have to do this everytime you enter recovery)
then you can try flashing both ROM you chose and the DATA2SD installer with 3.0.2.8, this might fix it

These are my steps to install a cook ROM:
I have the Android 2.1 and it never rooted. So to install cook ROM, i will:
1.1>Format my SD to FAT32, Make a goldcard (using GoldCardTool_0.0.5) for it. (So it will generate specific folders into SD, right).
1.2>Root my phone
1.3>Install a suitable Radio on SD. *
1.4>Install cook ROM
1.5>Start my Desire for the first time in new ROM. Install ROM Manager from Market.
1.6>Do Partition SD to Ext2,3,4... by using ROM Manager for A2SD,... (right?) *
1.7>If i want to comeback to the ship ROM, i will downgrade ROM
Are these steps correctly?
I wonder how to:
+ Install Radio: Which place i will install? Do i need any app to do it?
+ Do partition SD: When do it? Before or after installing new cook ROM?
Thanks for your helps
You have got it correct mostly.
1.6 If you are installing a ROM which has A2SD+ (This is different from google's 2.2 A2SD), then you need to have your SD card partitioned to ext3 before flashing the ROM. There are two kinds with A2SD+
a. ROMs which have A2SD implemented -> for this ext3 partition has to be present in the sd card before flashing the rom
b. some ROMS are flashable without A2SD+, and after booting for the first time, you can flash A2SD+ as an add on. In this case, before flashing it, you can partition the sd card with rom manager
1.7 If you want to revert to the custom rom, flashing an RUU is the easiest way. Ensure you have a proper RUU so that you can get back to stock if necessary.
1.3 Again, some ROMS comses with radio as part of it. So flashing the radio separately is not required. Check the rom createators description/changelog for it.
And immediately after rooting with unrevoked 3.21 do a nandroid back up and save a copy of that back up in your PC since partitioning the card will wipe all data in it.
Well you are almost right about all the steps
>To install the Radio first you have to download the latest radio
here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
copy it to your root folder of your sdcard , and using Rom manger Boot into recovery or else switch off the phone hold the upper volume button ad power on the devise and
enter in to the recovery mode ,,
>Once you are in the recovery mode browse the radio .zip file from the memory card and press yes
>it will get installed in a moment ,,and reboot the devise now be patient it will take a while..and several reboots..!
>Partitioning the sd card is your choice you can do it in recovery mode using clockwork recovery or else use rom manager to do this ,,select min 512mb.
do it after you install the rom and use A2sd to install apps to sd card.
Thanks alot. I'm using Official Froy now, and will try to root my Desire when the time is coming (I still scare to break down the mobile ).
Ah, if i want to root my Desire, do i need to comeback the stock Android 2.1?
So i installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040121
i rooted my phone yesterday and today tried install that rom i installed it with
http://theunlockr.com/2010/09/21/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-desire-2/ guide after install it said it was succesfully installed and i tried reboot it and now i cannot open it normally.
I can go recovery mode by pressing power + volume down
Can some1 help me what should i do?
In most circumstances it is because your sd card is not properly formatted or you have flashed the wrong data table. I think it is probably becuase of the sd card, make sure you format with a fat 32 and a ext4 partition. You can do this very easily with your recovery program or with gparted. If this fails I would flash a simple rooted rom to get the phone up and running and then read the forum. I assure you that is is not as complicated as it all seems
can some1 give me link for guide to format with a fat 32 and a ext4 partition
or simple rooted rom to i can get my phone back to work?
This is a rooted stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833310
Download this, put it on your sd card and flash it exactly as you flashed your previous rom, this will get the phone working again. I would then simply download and install Clockwork Mod recovery or 4ext recovery, both these will sort you sd card out. You simply want a fat32 with a 1gb ext 3 partition. Once this has been done you can then look at installing more complex roms.
If you get stuck lt me know and I will try and help, I was in the same place a year ago!!!!
Sorry, use this rooted rom as the other link requires sd ext

.... because you're partitioning your SD-CARD.. and as far as I know that can be taken out of the phone no?
you can use gparted or minitool partition wizard (google the names). Most ROMs require a minimum of 512mb EXT Partition but 1GB is advisable. EXT3 is preferable, as the faster EXT4 is not compatible with all ROMS

check the radio requirements and partition requirements
apart from that it's nothing really obvious so far?

Just hangs in the welcome screen.

Did you do that? On the first post...
start a fresh, full wipes, check md5sums...
furthermore, most Sense 3.0 ROMs need an EXT partition on your SD-Card. Have you got that? Some even require specific ways in which the SD-Card is partitioned

I am aware of installing through ie cmd. I will try and read about it.
The funny thing is that I had it installed. Then realised that my radio was old. I installed new radio used as it is for a few days and then decided to flash again.

MD5 provides a checksum for an arbitary file. It's just a string of characters like a long PIN code.
You can use it to guarantee that the file that's been downloaded is identical to the original, i.e. not corrupted on the way. So for any file that has an associated MD5 sum. You download the file and run a MD5 utility on that file on your system and check the MD5 value output against the original one.
Bootloop - I think you need a diff hboot ....
try flashing another rom, it MAY help
should swap size be zero.
Previously (with old rom) that it worked I had out of no idea had a swap part aswell.
Maybe not.
It shouldn't matter ... most important thing is that fat32 is 1st followed by your ext and swap on the end... I have 32mb swap but I see little difference between that and 0mb swap
Did you ever try installing the hboot from the second post?
It says you have to use it?
Instructions for install:
-Flash hboot
-Reboot into recovery
-You must wipe at least /data and /sd-ext
-Flash ROM
-Reboot and Enjoy (it takes ages on first boot, it has a lot of sutff to do)
Bootloop
Hi everyone. I find this thread most appropriate to post my problem.
I also have a bootloop problem, but mine is persistant.
I had MIUI rom, and after a few weeks decided to change it.
Phone was rooted with unrevoked3, sd card partitioned with gparted, radio 5.17.05.23, hboot 0.93.0001
After that I used AlphaRev CD to s-off.
Then I've flashed PyramidMod007 and it all went downhill from there. Phone just hanged at Joker logo, and I've tried backup (didn't help), reflashing other roms from SD card, and none of them worked.
I finally managed to restore the phone with RUU, and tried the whole process from scratch.
Root, S-OFF, Nand backup, Flash; same story, but this time i can't get it to work at all.
I don't know where to start now, what to do and what the heck am I doing wrong.
After all, I am but a nOOb.
Sorry for long post, and sorry for poor english.
Edit:
Damn thing works again
I pulled that one with PB99IMG.zip to SD again; bootloader and update, and it works like nothing happened :S
But then again, what should I do now. Should I go trough whole process again or what.
Anyone has any idea why is this happening.
What HBOOT do you have and what version are you trying to install?
What EXT size do you have?
There are 2 different versions of roms for stock and cm7 hboots. They have different ext requirements.
Double check that.
Optionally (recommended), you can change Recovery from CWM to Ra Desire or RMD (most recommended) and re partition your SD card. Maybe your version of CWM Recovery is not installing this rom properly (known problem with CWM).
Thanks for reply
hboot is 0.93.0001, and I'm trying to instal stock hboot version of PyramidMod.
EXT is 768MB ext4, ROM requires 512MB.
Problem seems to show up after S-OFF procedure, like there is something incompatible with rom and recovery, it just bootloops. I'll try to install RMD.
Can someone be kind enough and check if i'm doing it right. This is the plan:
Phone is stock now.
1. Root with unrevoked
2. S-OFF with alpharev
3. Sd partitioning with gparted (to 1GB ext4)
4. nand backup
5. flash rom
I think it is best to install RDM recovery and latest radio right after S-OFF procedure, am I right?
I would suspect the partitions or errors in scripts (CWM side fault only).
With RMD you can both repartition SD card witn ext alignment and flash rom as RMD is based on Ra Desire.
Try that.
Usually bootloops have connection with wrong formatting or errors in scripting (CWM side faults only).
Are you doing full wipe before flashing your rom?? Sometimes it's a key to success.

So, you go here and download RUU that suits you most, if you don't know what software your phone came with.
Then, you run downloaded application and don't touch anything, and in temp folder look for rom.zip.
After you've found it copy file to desktop, and just click cancel on installer.
Rename rom.zip in PB99IMG.zip, put it on SD/root.
Go in bootloader menu and wait. After a minute or so, it will ask you do you want to apply/perform update. VolUp for yes, and wait. Make sure battery is good.
It worked for me, and hope it will work for you.
If there is something wrong with this method, I would like senior members to rectify me.
Petcovic,
Yes, flash RMD Recovery through fastboot and use it to partition your SD card.
Choose Ext partition(s) size and fat32 is taking the rest of card automatically.
Ext partitions are properly aligned.
RMD Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137763
How to flash?
You need to be S-OFF
put recovery.img into the same direcotory as fastboot.
Navigate in CMD to this directory and type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
RMD supports up to 3 ext partitions.
Partitioning via RMD:
Code:
Partition SD card
Partition SD Card
First ext filesystem <ext4>
First Ext size <your size>
Second ext filesystem <none>
Second Ext size <0>
Third ext filesystem <none>
Third Ext size <0>
Write Configuration
Ignore using recovery to partition ... Use gparted or something you have more control... Did anyone flash the hboot link that it tells you to before flashing? ??
After trawling xda for weeks and reading about every issue under the sun, I'd say that most of the experienced xda members recommend using GParted to partition sd cards rather than other methods. GParted has always worked flawlessly for me.
@MigMrB
That's not very kind of you.
I had never problems with partitions formatting under Ra Desire or RMD.
Gparted is also OK. Just partitioning through those Recovery is optimized for Desire.
Both ways are OK. Even using MiniTool Partition Wizard under Windows is fine as long as you are familiar with partitions requirements layout.
Hi,
I have problem...
I tried to install Cool3D RunnyMede v5 ROM,which needs EXT4, but I have made mistake and forgot to create ext4 partition and installed ROM - so it couldnt start...
After powering phone ON it stops at HTC logo - i need to pull out battery.
After that I can go to HBOOT and to recovery.
I tried to wipe cahce, factory reset -nothing hepled - it still stucks at htc logo
I would like to ask you,if it is posible to create ext4 partition in this state of phone- because i cant get to my SD card (windows dont recognize storage),and I cant power phone to home screen...
Is it posiible to fix this problem (to make phone working) or create EXT4 partition from CMW(I have Revolutionary CWM 4.0) or from computer (ADB or something,im not expert in this stuff, im just guide follow monkey)...
I appreciate your help,im desperate

Go to Gparted site http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php Download and burn it to CD or DVD. You will need an SD card adapter, when Gparted is on CD boot PC from CD and re-partition your card. You will need to enter BIOS if PC dont already start from dik and set it has first boot.
Before partition remember Backup data if you can.
or you could use ext4 recovery from the development thread - flash via fastboot. plenty of guides for that. I suggest you avoid the touch recovery for now as its not too stable (too large - bad blocks could cause brick...)
Thank you,
I have solved the problem - I found in recovery something like mount storage, and then i could acces to SD card, and then i flasthed EXT4 recovery...
Throught ext4 recovery i created EXT4 partition (it fprmated my sd card).
But it didnt solved the problem, maybe it was ROM problem, because I installed then Insertcoin, and it worked...
But thanks for answers anyway...

did you use the correct version for your hboot - as in the cm7r2 version if you have that hboot or stock hboot version.... also I'd suggest an sdext partition of at least 1024 (i like 2048 personally but i have a 16gb class 6 sdcard) for all sense 3.0/3.5 ROMs
I suggest you go and look at the "requirements" of the ROM you were trying to install, and ensure you have done a full wipe, and do not restore anything until after a couple of boots...
Love this rom, but having a problem.
I installed the a2sd script and now when I download certain apps it reboots and stays on boot loop.
I have to pull the battery and go into recovery to restore but the zip is no longer there, it is wiping the zip from the SD card so I have to reinstall it !!!!!
I tried installing the rom without the script but then run into low memory problems.
Any ideas please

What hboot are you on? Which Sandvold did you install 0.7 or 0.8? What install options did you choose?
On stock hboot:
Do a full wipe (not SD), flash again , choose either stock (a2sd (typical install) or amarullz (custom install)). If you chose a2sd then after install open terminal and type:
su
a2sd install
Yes on move Dalvik-cache
No on move App-data
Yes to reboot
The stock a2sd and the amarullz have been tested stable on stock hboot, there seem to be more issues with CM7r2 hboots.

What is this particular a2sd script? I am assuming your already created a partition FAT32 (Primary) followed by 1/2 gb ext4 partition beforehand.
Also I never seen anything that deletes the rom in the sd card. Perhaps you are formatting the sd card in recovery.
I would advise to change hboot to stock, do full wipe(wipe/factory reset, wipe cache+dalvik, system, data and sd ext). If you choose custom install, and got sd card class 4 or above, then I recommend you don't go for the stock a2sd, you are much better with Amarullz.
Some things to check :
- check your partitions' alignment (from recovery)
- did you reply 'n' when a2sd script asked you about moving data to sd ?
- did you change your governor to conservative (assuming you're on stock or tobby_d's kernel ?)
I met that kind of behavior usually just after a fresh install when I forgot about 2 last steps mentionned above.
Thanks so much guys for your help.
I was on version 0.7, and with Y to app-data to SD. I have installed version 0.8 and followed all your instructions and all seems well.
Thank you again very much
