Running data2sd in cm 10 - HTC Wildfire S

Hey guys, I recently flashed benjamingwynn's cm 10. I really liked the rom but the rom takes up a lot of space. My internal memory is very low, so even if I use link2sd I was only able to install some apps. Then I tried data2sd from the market. I created a storage file but when I try to mount it, there's nothing happening. Is there any way to make data2sd working? Should I follow any other steps?
Thanks in advance!

Data2sd from market? lol.
Data2sd is a script which is only flashed by installing from recovery or rom manager... Get cronmod int2ext+ script and flash it from recovery. It works pretty well.

I can only repeat sukhjit321, you have to flash it in recovery.
Download this: http://www.mediafire.com/?t1r06j60gybhn2t
Put it on your SD card, then install it from recovery just like a rom (delete cache partition and dalvik cache before).
Or try int2ext+ or something else, but you have to flash all of them in the recovery.

Yes, first make a FAT32 partition, and then an ext4 partition (the ext4 is going to be your internal memory, so make it as big as you want)

Hi....i have a Wildfire S working on CM10. Im facing the problems of Low internal memory too...I have tried usinbg Link2Sd but barely helps...again doomed for low internal memory...if i flash data2sd try int2ext+ or something else, i wud have to flash all of them in the recovery by going in recovery mode and the install from SD card..BUT do i have to wipe everything or what i mean to say is do i have to flash the CM10 all over again by deleting everything OR just flashing DATA2SD / int2ext+ wud help.
Beacuse while using Link 2Sd i have already created partiion EXT4 for about 3GB on my 8 GB SD card..
Please suggest how i must do the process ....
Regards ,
Piyush

no...don't flash data2s or int2ext or othe sceipt simultanuslly....lit will cause crash...and u can use your link2sd partition as 2 nd partition....but if after flashing int2ext+ your internal memory dont change and 150 mb than you have to make patition again...sad..

[Q] noob question - created ext4 partition on SD, but how to use it?

Hi,
I've created an ext4 partition on my SD with the intention of using it to store apps on
I used the gparted method described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
Now I've flashed a couple of ROM's (Oxygen, Redux and CM7) but have no idea how I can put apps on it
Additional question:
1) if you do a data, cache/dalvik wipe will the apps on the ext4 partition also be deleted or will they remain on it so you can reuse them in another ROM
2) I've rooted and s-offed my stock rom, can I use the partition I've created here as well? and if so, how?
thx

on all 3 roms youve mentioned you tried, app2sd is automstically setup on rom install. so you are already using app2sd.
1. yes if you wipe dsata, it wipes your apps on ext 4 partition
2. and yes, your aready using your partition once your using a app2sd rom. specific roms allow you to push your dalvik cache to your partition but it is not reccommended as it can slow donw your phone.

extra test: I've installed Leedroid with app2sd
when I install an app from the market my internal memory decreases and I cannot move it to SD card
I've created a 500mb partition, should this be visible as "internal memory"?
cheers

Some apps still need some space from the NAND internal memory.

Nope. But if you download "Quick system info" from the market, you will see where it's written A2SD your external partition and its used space.

If you are like me and want to install lots of apps app2sd is not good enough sorry I was on Leedroid superb ROM but I soon ran out of install memory because even if you move app2sd say you have 20mb app and move it to SD it will move like 16mb to SD and 4mb will still be on phone.
Best way is Data2SD I use startburst and have 2gb ext4 and my phone thinks it has 2gb internal memory
Make sure you backup and have a SD card class 4 and above some say class 2 fine I dont think so.

[Q] Problem about MIUI V4 Desire

Hello,
after performing ful wipe, I installed MIUI V4 for HTC Desire following che "complete installation". After reboot, my desire is stuck, for about half a hour, on white htc screen with green led. Can someone help me?
Thanks.
Probably a no sd-ext partition issue.

I don't understand, I followed the complete installation that appear when install the rom. There's something else to do???
Did u partition ur sdcard ? Coz u said u just did full wipe

Personally i wouldnt use ClockWorkMod, its dodgy. but thats me. Go to miui rom v4 thread and read the developers install requirments. I hav'nt time to do it for you.(u should always READ before flashing a rom). I think in ClockWorkMod, u go down to advanced then partition sdcard, then it will give u sizes to choose from and pick what ever the dev requires

I'm using that ROM from Marange. My settings are 1GB EXT3, 128MB SWAP, other FAT32. This settings are working very fine for me...
During the installation choose custom installation then the LX-script (from Lennox, don't know the right name at the moment), then choose EXT3 and existing SWAP.
The first boot needs some time, but then all should work perfect!

[Q] Query on Internal Memory and Custom Image

Hey Guys
My friend has a Wildfire S.. We have S-offed it.. and put custom recovery.. CWM 5.0.2.8 .. Questions are
1) Is that good or latest recovery? or something better?? like TWRP ?
2) We have drilled down to three ROM's we can see..
CM10.1 4.2.1
CM10 4.1.2
CM7 2.3.7
We had tried CM10.1 but felt a bit sluggish.. slowish.. probably needed to do something more...
which rom is good out of the three or any other??
(we don't care about the usb tethering not working or camcorder recording etc).. should not be sluggish although.. won't say it will be lightning fast either.. I know the phone is quite old and limited..
3) We saw internal memory used 100MB and left only 20MB.. obviously we need to increase that.. we have a 12GB Card.. Now..
Do we need to format to ext4 ? full Card or partition? how much? what with the rest of the partition ?
Then which one to use for data to SD by default? Do we use INT2EXT4+ as mentioned in CM10.1 guide?
Is that compatible with all the ROM's or others above
We can currently format so just want to set it up correctly first time.. dont want to get it wrong..
any answers will be great!!
Cheers
Actually you posted in wrong section.. This should goes to Q/A section.... and yeah these questions have asked many times... Try search before posting...
Anyway... there is a touch type CWM recovery available(search in development section)... but 5.0.2.8 is used by most of the users, cuz no one need more than that....
Try cm9 roms... like MIUI, Paranoid Android ICS, Speed Droid... Those are great and quite stable and of course fast...
and for SD Card tweaks.. ext2 and ext4 are best... But for cm9, cm10 ext4 partition is preferred (idk why)...
make a second partition using minitool as ext4 and make it as primary (imp - not as logical)... then flash the int2ext+ (or) int2ext4+ script after you flashed the rom...
note that int2ext4+ is only for ext4 type partition and int2ext+ is for all ext2,3,4 type partitions... You can partition you sd card upto 2 GB ... cuz it is stable limit..
Yes int2ext scripts works with all roms....
Thanks for that..
So CM10 rom is not going to be quick?? which is good in Gingerbread then?
So I should format the 12GB card into 1) primary ext4 of 2GB and 2) leave the rest as FAT32??
then
1) Wipe everything
2) Install custom ROM
3) Install int2ext+
4) reboot
5) get into recovery again
6) install gapps
7) reboot??
missing anything?? also do i need custom kernel etc?? which one if so??
Flash the JellyKing rom by kantry. It is a smooth and stable cm 10 rom. There is eoghan's kernel in that rom so you don't have to flash a kernel.
Everything else like you listed it in the last post.

4) install int2ext+
5) reboot
6) install gapps

yeah.let me clear about partition of sdcard:
for int2ext scripts
1) FAT32
2) ext3 or ext4 (as per custom rom, some rom wont work with ext4 but cm9 and cm10 will do)
for link2sd
1)FAT32
2)ext3 or ext4
3)linux swap partition(as per your phone RAM,512 MB is enough)
int2ext scripts dont require swap partition as per their description in main post.all partition should be primary, and 1 GB is enough but if you want 2 GB its ur choice but dont partition more than 2 GB,and yeah int2ext+ script uses 100 MB internal memory for 500 MB ext3/ext4 so if you partition 2 GB,your 400 MB internal space will be consumed..
you can directly partition you sdcard with help of minipartition tool on your computer.
and for you clearance linux swap partition is work as your backup rom.some cache will save on that partition so your phone speed wont slow.
Thanks..
Considering (in terms of preference)
1) JellyKing
2) Paranoid Android
3) Speed Droid
Any suggestions between the three?
Also I am planning to use in2ext+ with the following
1) 1st Partition - Primary 1.5GB ext4 (Read maximum should be 2GB so just being safe?)
2) 2nd Partition - Primary 14.5GB FAT32
So
1) Do the partition structure and size look good ?
2) Do all these roms support int2ext+ (I think so on reading)..
3) Do I create a swap partition as well? if so which order and how much? (reading suggests 500MB).. whats the advantage? any additional thing to be used for install? how to check if it worked as it should?
So after doing that.. I should
1) Wipe everything
2) Install ROM
(reboot or not after that??)
3) install int2ext+
4) Reboot and see if rom detects internal memory properly?
5) back into recovery and install gapps and reboot
Does all of this sound good??
Need to do this in an hr or 2 so quick reply will be appreciated
Cheers

sorry for late reply but my internet sucks.
first install speedroid.its fast,stable.i m using it s.:cyclops:
another reasons are jellyking is based on JB,which has many little bugs despite camcorder and all.and paranoid has dockbar and dpi size is very small so i dont like it.but its upto you what you want.
and use int2ext4+
its very fast and better than int2ext+ and yeah all cm9 and cm10 roms supports it.
partitions are good, you can use 1.5 GB ext4 but keep it 1 GB for caution purposes.might you dont need 1.5 GB belive me.
and yeah swap partition isn't need in int2ext4+ scripts but you have 16 GB memory card so keep swap partition 512 MB.
swap is work as backup RAM,its 512 MB because wildfire s has 512 MB ram.
steps:
1)wipe everything
2)install rom
3)install int2ext4+
4)go to "mount and storage"
5)format /sd-ext (its needed to format your sd-ext partition)
6)reboot
its take little long time to boot because we installed int2ext4+ script.then you can check internal memory.
then reboot in recovery again and install gapps.
and yeah if you wanted to install speeddroid, gapps already installed in it so no need to flash it.
need quick help.. have done everything and shows internal memory fine and have put speed droid
but i am installing gapps-jb-20120726-lite-rebased.zip and reboot but not a single gapps showing in phone.. it flashes fine as well..
partition
1) fat32 12GB
2) ext4 - 2000MB
3) swap - 500MB

try flashing the rom without flashing INT2EXT4. Most roms have built in a2sd scripts, which allow you to move apps to an sd ext partition.
Also, how did you create the partition, best done with 4ext recovery or gparted.
512MB is also quite small, might want to consider 1-1.5GB.
As above, just flash Rom without another a2sd script as most have them built in or activate with terminal commands, check each thread. Which Rom are you using?

making the partition using cwm may have been your problem. Use this guide to remake the partition. Im assuming you want to use VJ's CM10.1 ROM. If this is the case, there is no need to use INT2EXT4. Instead use the preinstalled a2sd script.
After flashing the rom, you can activate a2sd by doing the following:
Open terminal emulator provided in the rom.
Type the following commands
su
a2sd install
Y
N

Ok, thank you, now just one more thing. I have to remove the previous sd-ext partition and I can't do that on PC cause disk managment doesn't recognize it, it shows 6.87GB free, I think it should be about 7.3GB cause its 8GB SD. Can EXT4 recovery do that or should I find some program on PC?

In 4ext, there is an option to "Remove all partitions and start from scratch". Im guessing that deletes/wipes your fat32 partition as well, so back your files up.
If you want to delete it without the fat32 being formated too, you can use gparted. But thats a bit time consuming and a hassle.

hmm strange you created it using the right recovery.
The ext partition won't show up in your internal memory (i.e. it won't read 217MB + 512MB) but the sd-ext should store your apps and dalvik if you activated with A2SD with Y N Y
However, 512MB is very small, if you have enough apps it will fill up quite quickly. I'd recommend:
- backup sd card
- repartition with maximum 2GB ext4 partition, no swap (1.5GB is enough normally)
- full wipe and reinstall ROM, activate A2SD
- restore apps
