hello
every single time i try to install a custom rom i get stuck at the HTC boot screen what am i doing wrong ??
for example i tried to install this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861690
i first rooted my phone using unrevoked then backed up my data then i go on recovery wipe data and cache then flash the zip file tried the same on couple more roms but still the same problem so i don't know what am i doing wrong please help !!
Well, the first thing to check is compatibility. That was the first thing I had to learn when browsing these forums. These forums integrate CMDA & GSM Desires. Also, they encorporate the Desire Z, the Desire, and the Desire HD.
First of all- Are you trying to flash a GSM ROM to a CDMA phone?
2) I see that is an HD ROM, do you have the Desire HD (I'm only assuming the ROMs labeled with "HD" in the title are meant for the Desire HD)?
Things like this are stuff you definitely have to take into consideration do the research for when browsing the Desire forums.
Hope this helps a little.
it's under the Desire section not the DesireZ or Desire HD and the video is shows it's tested on Desire )
The ROM in question requires you to have partitioned your SDcard to have both a FAT and EXT partition.
Have you partitioned your SDcard in this way?
My SD card is in FAT32 format but what is EXT partition ?

It's a good start that when you want to flash a rom you actually read the first post and make sure you understand it.
Ext partitions are not that complicated and searching should give you all the info you need.

Use GParted in Linux or Linux Puppy to wipe and then partion ur card. Check which type of Ext the ROM requires but usually an Ext3 or Ext4 will be required. So if u have a 8GB card make a 1.5GB Ext3 or 4 and then make the remaining space in to a Primary Fat32 partion.

you can also EXT your sd card with Amon RA recovery.
you can download here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839621
read the post!!
you can use unrevoked, choose custom recovery: choose the recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0-CM.img
in the menu you can ext your SD card.
this method i found very easy. after you made an EXT partition you can choose to make it an EXT2, EXT3 of EXT4 whatever you like. do some reading
be aware: your sd card will be formatted if you make an EXT partition.
Guyz can any1 help me install this rom step by step ?

Make a nandroid and copy it to your pc. (It's in the clockwork foldermod).
Decide what version you want A2SD, D2WE or D2EXT, if you have no idea go with the recommend one.
Read the second post and create the required ext partitions. (keep in mind this will wipe your card so copy everything you want to keep to your pc)
Copy your stuff and the rom you want to flash back to the partitioned card.
Boot in to recovery and wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache under advanced.
Go to "install zip from sd" and select your downloaded rom.
Wait till its finished installing.
This should be the way but it's still your responsibility.
Thx bro I will give it a try hope it works their it didn't I will restore my data )

Hi everyone !
I have a little issue with my HTC Desire, i've been trying to install APP2SD after i rooted it but something went wrong and now my phone is stuck on the initial HTC Logo ! I still have access to HBoot and Clockwork Recovery ! I guess I should flash my phone again with the generic rom but I have no idea about how to do that ! Can you please help me ??
There is probably a easier fix.
What rom are you on now and how did you try to install APP2SD?
I am on the latest stock rom !
I used r1-a2sd-desire-dalvik-fresh-signed.zip on a Goldcard but i was unable to repartition my sd card using clockwork mod ... and now my phone won't start !
No idea what the zip exactly does but try wiping dalvik cache in recovery (under advanced). If that doesn't work, install Leedroid NoA2SD with a full wipe to get your phone booting again or partition your sd card with Gparted and then install Leedroid A2SD (or any other rom you like).
Can you help me out with a full reset ??
I was so stay on a stock rom ! I am currently downloading this one
First it says to partition the SD card, should I partition my normal SD Card of the Goldcard (and how to do that??), also, should i put the .zip file of the rom on the regular SD card or the gold card for the flash ??
Really thank you for you answers !
To do a full reset, boot in to recovery and wipe data/factory reset and cache. You can try rebooting after this but i don't think it will work.
To install a new rom:
Create the ext partition (i would do it on the normal card, don't know how goldcards are affected by partitioning). Use Gparted to partition, there should be enough info on how to do that if you search. Also copy all the stuff you want to keep to your pc before partitioning.
Copy your stuff and the rom back to the partition sd (fat partition)
Boot in to recovery
Wipe data/factory reset and cache
Install zip from sd
Wait and reboot.
It seems to be working fine ! Thanks a lot !
Another question and please sorry if I sound stupid ... but do I have to flash a new radio ? for now it seems like i'm receiving GSM network !
No

Hello everyone,
I have rooted my Desire a long time ago, now I want to try out a few custom ROMs. However, I think I made a few mistakes because Data2SD doesn't work for me.
Can i just start off new ? For example just running UnrevokedĀ³ again ?
If yes : Why doesn't UnrevokedĀ³ work ? It just says "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?". Currently I have installed Android 2.3.3 SuperNova ROM. My H-BOOT version is "HBOOT-0.75.0000". I think my Display is SLCD.
Thanks in advance !
Cheers Limette =)
if you are already rooted, this is what unrevoked should show.
anyway, your root was succesful, and it has got nothing to do with Data2SD.
if for some reason you think it might not work, make sure you have EXT partition AFTER fat32 one. and make sure it works ok, Gparted for example.
other than that you should provide more info, like what you did with your sdcard (how did you partition it, what layout etc.) and why do you think it is not working.
Thanks for your reply.
Actually I did partition the SD card how the tutorial told me to.
1st partition = ~14GB FAT32
2nd partition = 1GB EXT4
Then I installed the custom ROM and booted once. Then i went into Recovery mode and installed Data2SD installer. Everytihng should be ok so far, but the Phone wont boot after that, even tho the blue LED flashes. So I thought starting off new would be a good idea ^^.
So Umm, now I'm not quite sure what to do :O
Thanks in advance.
Cheers Limette.
well, a good thing to try now is installing some other ROM (possibly one with DATA2XXX already included) and checking if this works
also, what rom are you trying to flash
and have you used any aligment.zip flashable that were supposed to do some cool stuff with your ext ?
I only tried this ROM so far : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824
Here is what I did :
1. Partition my SD card ( 14GB FAT32 primary, 1GB EXT4 primary)
2. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> new radio version
3. Reboot
4. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> SuperNova ROM
5. Reboot
6. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> Data2SD installer
7. Reboot (system is stuck here)
If I remove the SD card the SD card the system will boot and if I dont even install Data2SD system will also boot. It just wont boot if Install Data2SD. I did nothing more.
However, I just tried to install InsertCoin CM7 but that won't even start at all. Thats pretty much the reason why I'm trying to redo all of my first steps. Or do you think my problem is somewhere else?
please let me know if you need more information and thanks for your help so far
Cheers Limette
insertcoin CM7 version would require you to be s-off and running custom hboot (partition layout in phone) so that is why it is not booting up.
try insertcoin A2SD+ STOCK HBOOT, if it works, then your EXT is fine, if not then i suggest you double check it.

Hboot 0.75 means you are still s-on so InsertCoin cm7 will never work for you.
I suggest you to soff (read some tutorial first) and flash cm7 hboot.
Then u will be able to flash IC cm7. With that version u will not need those weird data2something scripts
Thanks for the replies !
I just tried the InsertCoin A2SD v20 ROM its booting but its not working correctly. I get crash messages like every 3 seconds
"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I might try to S-OFF my phone after i read the tutorial. But until then, do you guys know what I did wrong ?
Cheers Limette
Few people with hboot below 0.93 experienced some problems with installing gb roms.
1. What is your recovery? AmonRa or CWM and what version?
2. Would you consider using Froyo rom? They are extremely optimized and stable, while gb still have some glitches.
3. You can of course s-off, but i'd check/repartition sd card first. Stick with ext3 partition for now, a bit more support for it if you get mad with flashing different roms

1. CWM v2.5.0.1
2. I used a Froyo ROM for like 9 months now ^^ So I want to try Gingerbread out ^^
3. I'll try to repartition my SD card with Ext3 , if that won't help I'll try to S-OFF my Phone.
I'll let you know if it worked.
Cheers Limette.
I managed to Fix the Error message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I accidentally forgot to wipe all data before flashing :$
Thanks for all the help =)
you wrote you have clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.1 ? you sure it is not 2.5.0.7 ?
anyways, both of them are really old, and this can cause bootloops when new updater script is used in a flashable.zip file
since you are S-ON, you cant premanently flash new recovery, but you can fake-flash which is putting clockworkmod_3.0.2.8.zip file on sdcard, and then flashing it while in 2.5.0.7(or .1) and this will boot up the newest version (but you have to do this everytime you enter recovery)
then you can try flashing both ROM you chose and the DATA2SD installer with 3.0.2.8, this might fix it

Basically we all know that the Desire has a useless ammount of memory. I'm running ICS one of the first beta versions, anyway I've got no memory, I've tried to partition the sd card to ext 4 but it rejects it so I'm looking for someone to point me to the next step with some instructions mainly if I need to revert back to gingerbread, how would I do that?
Thanks Dave
[EDIT] Should also mention I found this thread but doesn't really help me.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429570&page=2
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
How are you trying to partion SD card? Most reliable methods seem to be with 4ext or Gpart.
I've used gparted via ubuntu, but it for some reason doesn't like that, I'm thinking its rom related as it worked on a GB rom but since going over to ICS it doesn't work..
what do you mean 'rejects it'
do you mean that your entire SD card is not being read by the ROM and/or windows ?
You can use one of clockwork recovery's advanced menus to format the drive for you to a size of your choice 512 or 1024 or whatever.. I can't remember if it gave options for ext3 and 4 but you can def. get ext 4 out of it. the rest should be left as fat32.. works like a charm

The way I did it was via the CWM.
Before you do this, make sure that there are no apps stored on the sdcard (because your about to wipe it) - i.e. go through each app (unless you have Titanium Backup, which makes this easier).
Boot into recovery, in the advanced section, select partition sdcard, then select a 512Mb partition (wouldn't go higher - you get issues), select 0 for the swap partition.
Then boot up and follow the instructions about a2sd on this page:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355660
It all worked fine for me (and I have loads of space now!)
What version of CWM did you use?
hmmmm, are you using beta 0.3.6?
I mean, there are some instructions for a2sd:
To activate the built in a2sd:
open terminal and run these commands:
su
a2sd install
To move dalvik cache do:
a2sd cachesd
And try with different sd card....
I'm on 0.3.6 i followed the methods of using the CWM to partition it, when i said rejects it i meant that after using gparted android claims it is corrupted and nees to be format. Anyway so after running the terminal commands all fine but i cannot use the phone at all, contacts process crashes and thats followed by "android.process.accore has stopped." Any suggestions? I figured it might be a bad flash so re-flashed it but that doesnt seem to help.
I have not yet partitioned my sd card, I am still sorting things out. I also have low mem error. I believe the bulk of the problem, is the sorting of things. Others have had success with certain configurations of CWM, Droid builds, ext3 or ext4, and cell phone carriers.
After reading like you have, I have seen that CWM partitions have been unsuccessful until after version 2. I am currently running a US Cellular Droid 2.2, Rooted, CWM v4.0.0.2. Sorry for the lack of help yet. I will keep updating as I work through this.
I think best bet for me is to go back to gingerbread and go back to ICS after that and see where I am.
ICS for Desire is too many bug.
Try to erase cash and restart phone
These are the steps you have to do:
1. S-off
2. Get the appropriate partition for the system (see the Alpharev instrutions);you need Bravo Stock or Bravo Data++(I used the last one);
3. with Geparted from Linux(Ubuntu) live cd, partition SD card FAT32 and at least 1,5Gb 4Ext, both as primary partition;
4. power-off your Desire;
5. press Vol. down and Power;
6. go in Recovery;
7. wipe data/factory reset
8. wipe cache partition
9. mounts and storage --> format boot, cache, data, system, sd-ext
10. advanced --> wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats
11. install clean rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1403113 without trying to get m2sd to work;
12. Setup the Google stuff;
Goodluck!
If you want to have ICS on your Desire, try Chromium v1.5 .

hi guys
i know another thread about htc desire low internal memory, but since im new can you suggest me what to do.
do i need root my phone and is there any SAFE way to remove phones apps (like fm radio, footprints, gmail, mail, music, stocks, teeter basicly all i find useless on my phone...)
or do you sugest to build in customROM and which one do you suggest (small but working - best solution would be that i can use google play and phone for normal use other apps i can just download what i need)

After s-off, you will install 4ext recovery. From recovery, you will install SuperSu flashable zip, which you can get from the official thread. Google it.
Thats the rooting process.
Redux is very fast, stable, and a good rom to start with.
That is the exact order, except installing 4ext recovery comes right after s-off.

do i need some backup(ROM backup) before i set new ROM? titanium or nand? and what to do with it when i do that?
and can i remove custom rom same way as i remove stock ROM?
You do a backup with titanium, so you can restore your apps later, on your new rom, and you make a nandroid backup every time you do major changes to the phone.
If you want to restore the stock rom, just restore the nandroif backup from recovery.

Rooting your phone is a must. Post that you can search from a variety of ROMs available here. Can go for redux as suggested above, or any other GB based rom - MildWild is the most recently updated.
With stock hboot - you get 150MB as user memory. You can change your hboot to cm7r2 and get about 300MB in user memory. However, not all ROMs are compatible with cm7r2 hboot. Check before you change hboot.
i manage to root the phone, is there any way now i can move facebook app to SD card without using PC and mobile just mobile by itself? i tried with few programs (app2sd, link2sd, titanium backup) and its still gray and not allowed to transfer to SD or in link2sd i get msg faliure to move app to SD

Did you make an ext partition? If not, backup all your sd-card contents on your pc, go in 4ext recovery, choose tools>partition sd-card, and make a 512mb-1gb ext3 partition. Swap-skip, sd-ext2-skip.
Then, you can install an a2sd script, like Mounts2sd ( google it) and move apps, data or dalvik, or all of them to sd.
i followed some guide he didnt had that 4ext on it...
anyway i installed 4ext recovery now and i stuck on 2 things in there
when i go on online install - it say Your version of 4ext recovery is undetected... i download top red (newst) not testing build (is that ok)
and other message i have busybox couldnt be found on your system... do i need busybox ?

thats what i done so far on phone
i dont have 4ext but revolutionary instead - can i overwrite it?or im stuck with revolutionary and can i do all things from there too?
i found this soulution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219802&page=2
1. will it work?
2. and it say download downgrader - there is zip and img file which one do i need to download and rename zip or img one?
3. when i flash RUU file i put it in root on SD card too right?
ps i have some RUU bravo froyo that i download but its exe found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
so which one do i use at the end and how? (to get it back to stock) so i can get 4ext this time or i can just get 4ext somehow?
To install 4ext recovery, simply download the recovery control from the Play Store, then flash the recovery with it. I recommend the latest touch version.
You just rooted your phone. Why would you want to flash a RUU?
thanks... i have downloaded it instead of install it...

System and data are internal memory partitions. You can change their layout by changing hboot.
You only need one sd-ext partition. You can make one using 4ext recovery.
Simply backup all the contents of your sd-card on your PC. Then enter recovery, select Tools>Partition sd-card, and make a 1gb ext3 partition ( or ext4, depending on the rom you're using). Skip swap and sd-ext2, and anything else.
Then, copy everything you had on your sd back, and use an a2sd script, like Mounts2sd (google it).
And.. Voila.
I recommend only moving apps and dalvik to sd-ext. Leaving data on internal makes the rom run faster.

You need to create only an EXT partition. you can skip swap. The size of EXT partition may be minimum 512MB (If you have a small SD Card). The recommended is 1GB (Don't go for more than that).
Then you can go on flashing ROMs on your phone. Most of the ROMs have in-build apps2sd script. If not, you can flash one of the scripts or may use s2e (Simple2ext) which is available on Google Play...
If you just want to move the apps to sd, keeping your ROM, you will need to flash one of the scripts. But what the hell, why not try to flash some ROMs
