Sorry for the NOOB question, but does anyone know if it is possible to install any of the HTC Sense apps on top of CyanogenMod 6?
I love the CyanogenMod ROM's, but there are also some things I like about HTC Sense too. In an ideal world, I'd like the following:
- CyanogenMod 6
- HTC Sense E-mail App
- HTC Sense Widgets
- AOSP Standard everywhere else... Contacts, SMS, etc.
Is this possible?
No impossible but you can find similar apps for each
Short and to the point answer is....
Nope, if you want sense, then run a sense rom. But you can use google to maybe find other applications that can mimick what you want to accomplish.

Yes, I'm using Fancy Widget which is one of the most important... I just wish there was something like the Sense e-mail app. The AOSP e-mail app, isn't as user friendly... I've looked online and tried K9 (no good for Exchange, which is what I'm using) and Touchdown (doesn't integrate well with the rest of the UI)
Do you know if any of the Sense Froyo ROM's are supporting multiple exchange accounts yet? I know Cyanogen's does, but it's not Sense
No. Most HTC apps require the framework from a sense based rom. And the HTC widgets only work with Sense.
For future reference, questions like this should be posted in the general or apps forums, or if you really need to post it in the development section at least ask the question in the appropriate rom's thread. Not trying to be an a$$ but thought I would throw that out there before anyone jumped all over you.
Did this really just get asked? again?
Q&A sounds like theright place to post this.
As other have already stated, try the market place for similar apps.
Cyanogen is open source so asking for sense apps is like asking for a pair shackles to go with your get out jail free card.

And i quote from the man himself......
"THIS IS NOT HTC SENSE AND NEVER WILL BE. DO NOT ASK ABOUT IT IN THIS THREAD. THANK YOU."
if you know anything about cyanogen, which you should since you are using his rom he will never ever ever ever ever use anything but stock android thats one of the reasons that his roms are the best, plus he is the pioneer for android customization!!!
i dont believe the OP was asking for sense to be integrated into CM, just if htc widgets would still work, and if not for good replacements. Not everyone knows that they need the sense framework to function.
Some have been ported over.
Search around.
Other's generally don;'t work. Sprint apps work regardless of framework.
Yeah, I can understand where the OP's coming from. I love the CM ROMs, but there's a couple parts of Sense that I wish I could install piecemeal on top of it.
It would be ridiculous to imply that Cyanogen should ever incorporate them into his ROM since the lack of proprietary crap is his biggest attraction, but at the end of the day I still miss that stupid HTC weather widget.

I downloaded and installed the rom and everything appears to install correct however I have traces of the HTC Sense left on my phone... The dialer, the message, the people, the calendar, etc... are all still HTC icons and apps. I have the new stuff installed like super user, wireless tether and dev tools but this rom is supposed to be HTC sense free. Before I installed I performed a factory wipe and partition wipe but I think I missed something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance.
The launcher is gone. Otherwise, Sense is still there.
I thought this rom had sense removed completely. I really dislike sense and was thinking this was a vanilla rom. There are a couple screen captures floating around and they dont have any sense visable in them. Hmmmm.

There are obviously more themed builds that are floating around for beta test. Just wait, I'm sure Froyo 2.2 will be ported fairly soon. If not, I'll learn to dev myself
Well im currenting trying to get off the sense.
but i just cant live without having to sync my contacts with facebook, and i just hate having the vanilla messaging. its horrible to me,and im guessing i need the dial for the contacts.
so please anyone for a christmas, make someone happy=]
im currently trying to go to frost 3.1.1 i know its an older rom,
but it gave me amazing battery life so please can you guys send me the .zip file so i can just flash it over the rom=D
have a Merry Christmas
You can't use Sense applications or widgets without using Sense to my knowledge (I know widgets for a fact, and I'm fairly certain about the applications as well). Sorry

Wait vaelpak is half sense but he just doesn't have the damn messaging.
I really want the original messaging on for his rom.
Can someone pull this up for me?

Is there no way whatsoever to use HTC Sense Widgets with other launchers? What differences are there between them and normal Widgets, that makes them unusable without the HTC launcher? Can't they be ported?
I am curious too.
although android is open source. HTC Sence is not, htc have spent many hours making sure they wont work with other launchers, and as it is no source code it cannot be ported
I'm sure there is some way of tricking it into thinking that it's the default HTC launcher?

I would say the calendar because I just love the way it works and looks, but LP copied it well, so I'm good.
A lot of work to try and reverse engineer rosie and the widgets. For all we know half the widget code is inside rosie itself which would explain why the widgets only run on rosie.
Maybe someone could invest considerable time in trying to reverse engineer it but why bother? I'm not even sure such an endeavour wouldn't be in violation of copyright law our patent law.
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.
I guess none will reverse it, since it's totally closed source and the best devs don't use sense at all.
But there arrrrr replacements for nearly all sense stuff in the market. Miui clock and animated weather pro are great replacements for the clock.
Also, if you made the first step to get rid of sense, also take the second and use a non sense rom like cyanogenmod.you will love the speed and added functionality
Swyped with cyanogenmod 7 powered HTC Desire HD. Excuse typos.
Thanx for the info

Hey Guys:
Just trying to understand the app porting better.
Alot of great mods had been created from port of different apk's from other Android devices. I know there is a big difference between ROM that have Sense and no-sense ROMS. Yesterday I tried out the Droid X Messaging App referenced here. It work really well, but I had to uninstall it because of the Force Closing. I think the reason it doesn't work is because the Droid X does not have HTC Sense and its manufactured by Moto, so the app maybe coded differently.
But HTC has a few phones now running Android 2.3. So it would seem even though phones like the Nexus One (Which doesn't have Sense) should be almost coded along the same lines as a HTC phone running Sense, right? Yet alot of the apps don't run very well on Sense based ROMS. Now I know most people hate Sense, but I think its a useful app. I use Sense while I'm work and Launcher Pro on the weekends and evenings (yeah I know it sounds crazy. I know). But I really want to add a few ported 2.3 apps like messaging, etc.
Currently running SprintLovers Rom cause its the closet to stock. But I would like to mod it a bit.
So what I'm wondering is how come there aren't more ported apps available for Sense based Roms?

I could be wrong, but I think it's because of how much the framework differs. I've never tried the messaging app that you referenced, but is it all black? If you're looking for a messaging app that is all blacked out, with white font, the here is a modded one. It is the stock htc messaging app, but themed black, made by JsChirf.

No problem man. I have had no issues with that app at all, and have been using it for a good while now. MMS works fine with it, but it's the same as the stock app. I've never seen how they come through with the Droid x app.
Hi Im A Htc Sense Rom User, I Like Sense A Lot especially the links and it lets me stays organized. The Problem Is My Internal Memory Is Small (1.1 gb)
I Tried Cyanogenmod and i liked it a lot
the only thing im missing well everything in htc sense i want the speed of cyanogenmod but i keep on returning to sense roms.
my question is: is there a way i can replace the htc sense stuff in CM?
like the camera
flip to silent
smart dialer
htc widgets
contact linkup or at least to sync my contacts facebook pictures
sense keyboard
please help me i want cyanogenmod so bad but at least replacements for the sense stuff cz the sense rom are big in size ( 250 mb) and cyanogen is small & fast.
Take a closer look at these Apps:
like the camera ---> Camera360
flip to silent ---> LLama
smart dialer --> Contapps
htc widgets --> which? / what are they doing?
contact linkup or at least to sync my contacts facebook pictures --> contapps
sense keyboard --> ThickButtons
How many apps do you have installed? Because if you're filling it up with 1.1GB of apps, you're doing well!
My recommendation is to use a Sense ROM, then use a ROM cleaner script on top to clear out the stuff you don't use, giving you more space. Because Sense is a full framework, not just a few bits and pieces running on top, you are unlikely to find any replacements for Cyanogenmod that work quite as well.
This could be a bit off topic.
Is there anyway I can get the cynogenmod phone.apk to work with Sense?
I'm coming from mid-ranged and low-end phones to the DHD and all of them use phones.apks similar to the cyanogenmod one. It's been over two weeks and I still uncomfortable with Sense phone.apk.

this is what i recommend too, just strip out everything from the rom you dont want and then flash it
rather than starting at the ground up find replacements for everything, start with the finished article and start slimming it down

Well I Will Give You A Suggestion Try To backup the cyanogenmod dialer in titanium backup and restore it in any rom u want. Always backup first if it didnt work try finding something in the market. And i will try this and i will post a link or tell you if another way worked bro.
I went from an HTC hero which was my first android phone to an optimus v, my preferences for replacing most of the sense feeling is launcher pro for the Widgets and go contacts for the smart dialer/contact linkage. There is a patched HTC_ime somewhere on this forum that will install on a non-sense rom but I can't remember where or search it out right now.

Just search HTC IME into Google, first result V27, but it isn't updated anymore. That said, I use it, and it does work very well indeed.
