Sorry for the NOOB question, but does anyone know if it is possible to install any of the HTC Sense apps on top of CyanogenMod 6?
I love the CyanogenMod ROM's, but there are also some things I like about HTC Sense too. In an ideal world, I'd like the following:
- CyanogenMod 6
- HTC Sense E-mail App
- HTC Sense Widgets
- AOSP Standard everywhere else... Contacts, SMS, etc.
Is this possible?
No impossible but you can find similar apps for each
Short and to the point answer is....
Nope, if you want sense, then run a sense rom. But you can use google to maybe find other applications that can mimick what you want to accomplish.

Yes, I'm using Fancy Widget which is one of the most important... I just wish there was something like the Sense e-mail app. The AOSP e-mail app, isn't as user friendly... I've looked online and tried K9 (no good for Exchange, which is what I'm using) and Touchdown (doesn't integrate well with the rest of the UI)
Do you know if any of the Sense Froyo ROM's are supporting multiple exchange accounts yet? I know Cyanogen's does, but it's not Sense
No. Most HTC apps require the framework from a sense based rom. And the HTC widgets only work with Sense.
For future reference, questions like this should be posted in the general or apps forums, or if you really need to post it in the development section at least ask the question in the appropriate rom's thread. Not trying to be an a$$ but thought I would throw that out there before anyone jumped all over you.
Did this really just get asked? again?
Q&A sounds like theright place to post this.
As other have already stated, try the market place for similar apps.
Cyanogen is open source so asking for sense apps is like asking for a pair shackles to go with your get out jail free card.

And i quote from the man himself......
"THIS IS NOT HTC SENSE AND NEVER WILL BE. DO NOT ASK ABOUT IT IN THIS THREAD. THANK YOU."
if you know anything about cyanogen, which you should since you are using his rom he will never ever ever ever ever use anything but stock android thats one of the reasons that his roms are the best, plus he is the pioneer for android customization!!!
i dont believe the OP was asking for sense to be integrated into CM, just if htc widgets would still work, and if not for good replacements. Not everyone knows that they need the sense framework to function.
Some have been ported over.
Search around.
Other's generally don;'t work. Sprint apps work regardless of framework.
Yeah, I can understand where the OP's coming from. I love the CM ROMs, but there's a couple parts of Sense that I wish I could install piecemeal on top of it.
It would be ridiculous to imply that Cyanogen should ever incorporate them into his ROM since the lack of proprietary crap is his biggest attraction, but at the end of the day I still miss that stupid HTC weather widget.

That's exactly right Scooter, thanks...
i was wondering if having ADW on top of Sense UI takes up more memory and thus draining the battery more? i installed it two days ago, and i've noticed my battery is draining a bit quicker. for example.. with just stock Sense, if i charge fully and unplug overnight.. by the time i wake up (usual 6hrs of sleep).. it'll be down about 4%. the past two mornings with ADW, it drops about 10%. both times running Lou's Redemption Rom and both bump charged. is Sense still running in the background while ADW is also running?
Yes it is running you have to de-sensitize the ROM, and you'd have to ask lou about that im not famililar with that ROM
ok thanks.. lou mentioned he was planning working on a sense-less version. but what about if i install adw on a vanilla rom? would the vanilla launcher still be running also in the background?
So if I'm running skyraider but using launcher pro do I have to kill the Sensu UI process that's running, and will that conserve my battery?
if you clear defaults then unistall rosie.apk then htc sense will be off your phone
sorry didnt mean clear defaults, idk why i said that. i meant clear data. of course other little bits and pieces of sense will still be present running (ie bloatware), but the base ui will be gone, and hence it will not be running in the backround, which is pretty good for battery life in my opinion.
It will also break your HTC Facebook Contact sync though, so you'll have to go through your contacts manually with the Android Facebook App and sync them. Correct?

I believe this only happens if you remove Friendstream and its widget.
If you want to remove sense and its widgets the tainted vanilla version of my theme will do that automatically.

I see you're using LauncherPro with that rom. How easy would it be to uninstall that and put ADW on? Anything i should watch out for by doing that?
Also, this can be done with the stock/rooted/deodexed version posted by rmk40 or do i need to start with redemptive revolution? (saw that it was based off his rom)
One of the things that bugs me the most is getting a 6 bar signal meter on a stock froyo rom...I've beat my wife several times out of frustration.
i cant quite tell what your saying about the 6-bar thing, but there is a .zip file that can be used to revert to 4 bars. also, as for the theme, i would recommend just removing the apk's yourself if you can. the theme is for sure much quicker and more convenient, but theres no way it can be exactly what you want, and its not guarenteed to be stable with your rom since its fairly new. launcher pro can be easily uninstalled just like any app

Thanks for the reply. What i mean about the 6 bar meter is that a stock froyo rom comes with a 4 bar meter, most of the themed icon packs dont convert it to a 6 bar. I've seen a few threads that list off all the different apk's to uninstall to be senseless, but they are rather old and fear that some havoc could ensue with the newer frameworks out there.
its just a matter of whether or not you know what the apks do. if you dont know what one is, then chances are it is probably important. just by searching the /data/app and googleing names you should be able to get a relatively good idea of what you can safely delete
1. Install your desired launcher replacement.
2. Install this zip from rom manager or recovery.
3. Let it remove all of sense while keeping only the bare essentials.
4. Profit.

so that's the only part needed removed if i just want to replace the launcher with adw?

Sense widgets are only available in Sense. You can't use them anywhere else.

So right now I'm in dsixda's rom kitchen, trying to pull a few stock apps(phone, dialer, contacts, messaging) from a rooted stock rom(cr 2.13 OTA) to the nightly CM7. It's giving me process.com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly at boot and won't let me past. So I know that the OTA rom is froyo and CM is gingerbread, I'm assuming thats my problem. so that being said, first am I right? What do I need to do to make this work? and where can I get a stock gingerbread rom? can I simply drag and drop phone.apk, dialer.apk, etc. or is there more to it?

I don't think that will work. Espresso roms are sense, cm roms are not, they have different frameworks and such. First off, I'm PRETTY sure phone.apk is just the backend to sms/dialer/radio/etc., so you can leave that alone. Why do you want to move those apps over to cm7? Theming? Messaging and contacts I KNOW won't work because they require the tmobile framework resources that cm roms don't have, same with the dialer. You won't be able to move messaging either, since it has different coding from froyo to gingerbread. Contacts and dialer you MIGHT be able to move over if you ALSO move over the com.htc.resources.apk from /system/framework to the same location on the cm rom. You also might have to move the com.tmobile.framework.apk or something like that from /system/app to the same location on cm7 as well.
That may or may not work, it'll more likely just cause force closes everywhere since htc apps are very dependent on other apps and proprietary framework resources that stock android doesn't have.
I don't understand why you would want any of that. To each his own, but I think cyanogen has made all of that stuff better and simpler. The only thing he needs to add is the ability to end the call from the notification bar. I thought sense had a good idea there

I'm not knocking CM I do like it, it's just still buggy. For example in his contacts when entering a new a number with the keyboard the numbers are haywire and dont work, so you have to use the touchscreen. The main thing with the dialer is I miss the T9 speeddial, and messaging is a bit buggy as well, plus I like the old mms.apk ui better. For now I found out about dialer 1 on the market and will use that, but hopefully when it's all said and done things will be better on CM. Can anyone suggest a good messaging app from the market? contacts too maybe?

I use GoSMS. It's free, and you can theme it and such.
Alright. and almost forgot, the stock music player... any way of porting that? I really like the original widget better, and I miss controlling it from the lock screen. I want the old calendar back as well. thoughts?
i missed the dial by name from the SenseUI - this app is a GREAT replacement, you swipe from side to side to get to recent/favs/dial, and it's free: https://market.android.com/details?id=kz.mek.DialerOne

this is available in the later CM7 nightlies (30+) - you can hold the volume buttons to do prev/next, and you can even have the controls on the lock screen...

This is a replacement contacts called Phonebook 2.0. It's pretty cool.
Also, pretty much any of the widgets in sense are sense only ;p
Thanks guys. Yep figured out about the music player, thats good. Already using dialer one, I like it better actually. Now I'm missing the calendar. I really miss being able to see when stuff is coming up on the old widget. Any body got anything on that?

I'm currently using the 1.2m version of kushdeck's Gingerbread-Evo-Deck ROM.
My question is, where is the Calendar, News, Calculator, Weather, and Home Clock Widgets at?
Did I install something wrong, or were those removed as part of helping the battery life or cutting down unneeded apps by the developer?
And another quick question, whenever there's an update for kushdeck's ROM, do I just install the ROM as I did the first time, or is there an update path, and would I have to reset my phone to factory settings, delete cache, etc. before installing?
Another question, since my phone is rooted, how do I allow my phone to act as a hotspot? Is there a certain ROM or App I need, or is there already a built-in function I'm overlooking?
Your help is much appreciated!

Since it isn't a "sense" rom, and a aosp rom, you wont have the regular clock, Calender, etc Widgets. You will have to find alternatives from the market.
And to update to the newest version, as of now with it being 1.2x all you have to do is wipe dalvik/cache. Now if he puts out a update like 2.0 then a full wipe will be recommended. And lastly, for the hotspots feature, get wifi tether for free from the market

Ah, much appreciated.
I wonder if "sense" ROM's would be recommended over AOSP, but I kind of like how it's empty.
Just miss those lovely widgets! :/
Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to check out market for wifi tethering.

Preference really of sense or aosp I stayed on sense for a while, tried cm7, now decks, and I don't think ill go back anytime soon. And if you really miss the sense clock, try beautiful Widgets in the market, you can theme and skin it to look almost exactly like the sense clock. And yes for 3/4g the wifi works with both, just flip on 4g and hit the start tethering button. I'm mobile right now but look in the general section for "wifi tether and aosp roms" if you can't get it to work and it has directions on how to get it working

Beautiful Widgets is nice, but idk if it's really worth the $$$ since it doesn't have Calendar or Calculator too... But I may try it out, thanks!
I'm curious, there's no ROM's that provide individual Sense Widgets?
I installed the "Wireless Tether for Root Users" by Muller, Lemons, Buxton, and it says, "This application requires a 'rooted'-device and a (custom-) kernel which supports netfilter (iptables)!"
Question is, do I already have this "custom kernel" when I rooted my phone, or where can I get it from and how do I install?
Wifi tether is already built into decks roms. Settings>wireless&networks>portable hotspots>wireless tether. That should get you going.
Thanks is always good

I use fancy widget pro and it feels and almost looks like a sense based clock with weather. It has like 5 customized sizes and presets. I generally use fancy widget home its the the full clock with the weather similar to sense.
This widget will also work with both gingerbread and sense so no need to worry if you convert back and like the widget.
Hey!
I'm searching for the people apk which was a standard app in HTC sense. I'm running cyanagen mod now and I only have the normal contacts app.
The thing is, the people app from sense could connect the same contacts from different sources. Let's say I have a contact John as a phone, and Facebook and twitter contact. It would sync these and put them as on contact in the list. This is a function I really need..
Does anyone have the apk for it? Or a recommendation for an app that does pretty much the same
Thanx!

I did search in the play store, but it didn't show anything in that sort. Do you know why it can't play on a AOSP? is it because of the source code? i thought it's just an apk like any other app..
The two main apps that I have heard of are Smartr Contacts (from Xobni) and Contacts + (Contapps) both free on the play store.
Smartr Contacts https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xobni.contacts&hl=en
Contacts + https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.contapps.android&hl=en
Check them out, if you find a better one post back and let me know.
Much of the sense framework is different than aosp, cm, aokp, touchwiz, etc. sense apk's need the framework of sense roms to run on a different platform. There are all sorts of apps that people have made that look and act like sense that will work in other roms, I have just never seen the people one, but if you look around you may get lucky. But I have heard that there has been some people able to get some sense apps working just fine on aosp based roms, maybe try finding one of them and see if they could get people to work

Thank you!
I've tried both of them and contapps did exactley what I wanted! It took the different profiles of the same person and placed them in and showed them as one contact.
Smartr contacts is also a nice app but it doesn't take the diffenrent information in one ontact. So if someone placed their phonenumber on let's say facebook, I still didn't have it as his phonenumber in his contact form. Instead it gets the different comunication platforms all together in one screen, so you can communicate with someone specificlay in facebook and twitter at the same time. Not what I was searching for but still nice if you are searching for that.
Everybody else, thank you for replying en helping me
