[Q] Problem with Gmail sync after 2.2 upgrade - Desire General
Since upgrading to 2.2 I've been having trouble receiving Email notifications from Gmail.
I have 4 accounts set up in total. The primary account (the one I used when initially setting up the phone) still works correctly. The remaining 3 don't receive mail automatically. I can manually sync the accounts (Settings / Accounts & sync) by selecting each of the accounts in turn and selecting "Sync now". I can also sync from the Google mail app by moving between accounts and manually refreshing. But I don't receive new mail automatically. If I try "Sync all" in Accounts & sync, it appears to ignore the problem accounts.
I've removed the problem accounts and added them back. I've cleared the data from Google Services Framework. I've cleared the data from Google Mail. I've rebooted. I've disabled latitude, I've disabled chrome to phone.
Mail did work correctly, briefly, this morning after some fiddling but not for very long and I can't get it working again.
Anybody got any idea what's going on??
Cheers!
same is happening here!!! seems to sync and inform me when ever it feels like it!
Really annoyed about this as Id starting using email instead of txt with my other half to save pennies!!!

i had the same problem... but after i manually synced them (settings-sync) it started working again... ill let you know if it bugs out again...
Same thing happened to me. I just did a factory reset, hope it helps!
Factory Reset did NOT WORK
same here also have the problem that when I am connected by Wifi I can't browse the internet
In fact, since the factory reset, NONE of my four accounts work. Before the reset, at least one of them worked.
And my screen shuts off even when plugged in USB. I'm not sure where the setting is anymore...
I kept an eye on my log, and right when I sent an email to one of the accounts, this popped up:
W/ResponseProcessCookies( 522): Cookie rejected: "[version: 0][name: GX][value: DQAAAJsAAADQe9V7lD-OqnqpXugutw9gtUwoaDaU0-4dl5wZ6PiHx1xaFkfrQtQAiw55NvcFubXuaVso-nIS2XkXu_6XBS99gLCyNoYw8-4ZMFtdactjwAOKQM2D0JrSeRT1Kp4ly76rvgKhPEkvBT9yBa81HYg902gOwFvXC0asfGs7vXisy4OTZywHlYAVnT-Ngk1GOLrqbKvNopkWrt6ynyHhWsk7][domain: mail.google.com][path: /proxy/gmail/mail][expiry: Mon Aug 16 22:45:40 GMT+08:00 2010]". Illegal domain attribute "mail.google.com". Domain of origin: "android.clients.google.com"
Any thoughts?

I also saw a lot of cookie errors this morning. I'm not 100% sure they are connected to the Gmail app because they seemed to disappear after I'd disabled Latitude, Buzz and Talk (Talk seemed to be having problems). And, when everything was working for me this morning, similar errors were still showing up in the logs.
This afternoon I performed a factory reset (and spent many hours restoring all my apps and settings) - I still have the same problem. Maybe.
As I typed that previous sentence I did actually receive a notification for one of the "extra" gmail accounts .. so it may be partially working.
It's all very frustrating because it seems to work occasionally, but not always and not predictably.
Just out of interest, and in an effort to nail the cause down, whereabouts are you located? I'm in London and when I set the accounts up Gmail always tries to default to the address to googlemail.com, and I always adjust it to read gmail.com .. do you get the same thing?
yep im near London at the moment but I use a different domain that is registered with google apps. So doubt its anything to do with the googlemail domain.
It seems to work for a bit after ive done a manual sync but then stops.
People keep saying they are getting these cookie errors, was just wondering where they are seeing these errors because I cant see anything obvious!!
Cheers
I had the same problem before.
I found a Google support article that said to clear the app cache in the applications menu. This fixed it for me.
I am in Hong Kong, so I don't think the problem is related to location.
I have cleared the cache, that did not help. The ONLY time I have seen my other accounts update without me doing it manually is when I:
Disable sync
Reboot
Enable sync
It will then sync "by itself" once. But after that it stops working again.

Actually, I take that back.
My sync is still working unpredictably. Last night I automatically received Emails on two of the (secondary) accounts, and this morning I'm still reseciving mail on the primary account and one of secondaries .. but not on another of the secondaries.
Logcat says ..
08-03 09:27:30.429 W/ResponseProcessCookies( 7295): Cookie rejected: "[version: 0][name: GX][value: DQAAAJAAAADz9HpsY748emxcZlwsFmS-4yj3Hv1D_o3I51-9slsECeWxJ77LgbGCbM2YOFugkcuHCqxyYnfmqRQrQc6FuRiR9tUwtKtm5ckDqe2pDKNtHDokjF9SkIBEadnheUHM1oqPZlyE0oIXCT7-kJceaIjCm8AU-TUSj8DeAGgtAg5tw-HjZjZk_Dx37bneEbTWonE][domain: mail.google.com][path: /proxy/gmail/mail][expiry: Tue Aug 17 09:27:29 GMT+01:00 2010]". Illegal domain attribute "mail.google.com". Domain of origin: "android.clients.google.com"
.. and PID 7295 is Google Mail.
To my untrained eye this *looks* like a problem on the server .. it's trying to set a cookie on the device, but the domain for the cookie doesn't match the domain of the server trying to set the cookie. Unless the client is mistakenly talking to the wrong domain in the first place.
Bah!
I have 2 gmail accounts, one google apps (primary - contact/cal/mail sync) and a secondary which uses @gmail.com only for mail+calendar syncing.
On sunday, right after the update I noticed that my primary account (google apps) was having sync issues. In the sync status, it said there were possibly issues on the server side.
Now however, my primary account seems to work, but my gmail account stopped syncing. I tried almost everything, I even tried to talk my Desire into working again, but alas..
Someone please fix this
Perhaps some of you guys who're having these issues also use the GMail widget? Maybe some kind of interference there?
I think I fixed it.
I uninstalled Task Manager (task killing app from adao team) & the gmail widget (Gmail unread count from Alexander Blom). Cleared data through manage applications, restarted the phone and now it seems to work again. Don't know if it is permanent though.

I doubt it, as the problem occurs for me even directly after a factory reset, with absolutely nothing else installed.

Same here - I performed a factory reset and, after setting up the primary account, added the other accounts through the gmail app .. some accounts worked, some did not.
This morning, I had 3 accounts accepting pushed Email, and 1 failing.
Anyhoo, I figured that I'd wasted enough time on the issue and have installed K-9 Mail. I removed all of the secondary accounts from the Gmail app, enabled IMAP on all my gmail accounts via the web interface and then added them to K-9 .. and now I have push mail for all of my accounts again.
Here are some screenshots to describe the problem:
1) Here are my settings under Accounts & Sync. As you can see, it is correctly set up:

2) Here is the account that is working. As you can see, it syncs no problem:
3) And here is one of the accounts that is not working. As you can see, I did a manual sync last night, but haven't touched it since. So it hasn't been synced during that time:
OK just RIGHT NOW, my accounts synced. For NO reason, it just started working. Let's see if it stays that way...

Gmail Email Push is here!
Finally GMail is also supporting Push Email http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2009/09/google-sync-now-with-push-gmail-support.html for your Exchange client on Windows Mobile! Now in addition to contacts and calendar items also your gmail is automatically pushed to your HD if you configure the Activesync Exchange client on your WM device. Thought I let you know, since this was asked for in many push email threads before.
Nice! To bad WM6 doesn't support multiple "exchange servers"
Has someone tried it? Following the page it says "Google Sync is a beta product". Will try to set it up now. Edit: I´ve set it up and looks that its working. Will try it some days. Never used Pushmail before, so i have no ideas how long the battery will last. Edit 2: Don´t know if the service from google is so slow or my connection to the internet. It takes really long to sync only my contacts.
Just tried it. It is extremely slow at the moment, and I had only 1 out of 10 syncs succeeding... I guess google kind of underestimated the number of users they would have on the first day.

But so slooow Edit: After 30 minutes i wasn´t able to activate my phone. It was completely off. I had to take off battery before i was able to power it on again. But battery was full. Can the Google Sync make such a problem?
Works extremely well for me, no issues at all (speed, battery or otherwise). If you choose Exchange Push over Imap Idle this is your free solution. Idle traffic btw is the same, for me about 15megs per month, depending on your push settings and data plan.
A shame, that Exchange is only able to control one active sync connection at time. So, i can't use my work account and my private google mail account for push I hope, there is any solution in near future
I can´t get it work right. The first time he syncs it works. But then when it wants to get new mails from server, it gives an error message. Do not remember well what it was, but something like: Was not possible to finish syncronize. If error persists, try to re-setup your configuration. Any idea? Set it up 3 times, always with same result.
Works!!! Thanks for the update, it works fine for me. Been testing it...Sending and receiving mails quite well and very fast.

After flashing to another Rom and testing Gmail Sync about 3 Days i can say it´s actually very fast. I had a little problem with contact sync but later i turned it off, because i don´t need this, only for Emails. Until now i have to charge my phone every 1-2 days. Quite heavy diference with Data Connection always on. But i think it´s ok,

Hi, use this settings on ActiveSync then push work: { "lightbox_close": "Close", "lightbox_next": "Next", "lightbox_previous": "Previous", "lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Only one account per phone? A bit tacky I wanted Gmail and Google Apps.
Ok guys, I have Miri v12 rom on my HD and I tried to setup my gmail account on Activesync on the Vista Mobile Device Center and directly on my Touch HD, with the help of this step-by-step guide http://bit.ly/5l5Rw , but in the end when I try to sync, it asks for my Exchange Server credentials, user pass and domain, but no go... No matter if I put in username: [email protected] or simply in the username field I put the username and then in the domain field I put googlemail.com, It always end up asking me again for the credentials... Can anyone help me? Am I doing something wrong? I've tried this on my actual rom and on another one, but no luck. Update: Ok, I found out, it not @googlemail.com, but @gmail.com !!! The step-by-step guide is misleading
It shouldn't ask for domain. Try unchecking the box where it says get settings automatically. I think this is in the very first dialogue box. It works flawlessly for me. Thanks for the info. onesolo said: Ok guys, I have Miri v12 rom on my HD and I tried to setup my gmail account on Activesync on the Vista Mobile Device Center and directly on my Touch HD, with the help of this step-by-step guide http://bit.ly/5l5Rw , but in the end when I try to sync, it asks for my Exchange Server credentials, user pass and domain, but no go... If that's gmail, type in [email protected].. Not that hard, is it? I'm synchronising as we speak, curious to see how and if it works. Contacts take some while, though.
Yeah Google cannot use the Gmail brand in Germany, so its Googlemail for Germany only, Gmail for all others.
cannot sync google calendar with google sync
i'm trying to sync. only contacts and email sync..looking for calendar sync.
mine wont even do contacts just email.
Mine syncs just fine with calendar and email. Not sure about contacts. I leave that Microsoft MyPhone. Anyway, I would suggest you to delete the Exchange relationship and start over. Sometimes that helps.
i've done that many times, no luck, does that work for u havieri23?
yes, i deleted the exchange, but only still can do contacts and email...would like to get calendar working. i used this link for setup help http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299 but instead of user name: [email protected] which doesn't connect for me (gives error) i use [email protected]
Assume you've all followed the instructions to the word? Remembered to toggle on "Calendar" as well as "Contacts" and "Emails"?
yes i definitely have the boxes checked, they give me an error when i try to sync, and they never end up actually sync'ing. i have it setup exatly as the instructions say. even if i set it just contacts, doesnt work, just calender, nope. just email, works fine xD EDIT: so.. i realized that i hadnt updated my sync times to instant, which i did, which resulted in calender syncing heres the problem, i think google sync only allows up to 100 contacts to be synced. so if you have more, you'll get an error. i myself have 114, so i cant do it. too bad
is that true about contact limit? is it true that the limit for the number of contacts that can be synced with Google contacts is 100? I would like to start using that sync but I have about 350 contacts.
hope this helps I was reading this thread cause I just took on gmail as well for everything. So far I have had everything work except task, but they do say it doesn't work. My settings for email is set to come as they arrive (both peak and off peak hours) I have 320 contacts, all synced (and quickly I might add) i just had to sync twice for it to work. server was m.google.com username was [email protected] domain was left blank and I have contacts, email, calender checked and tasks not checked (checking it cause an error with syncing) My calender updated a test event for me... then while i had gmail open i moved the event from 2pm to 6pm by dragging it and as i was looking at my phone agenda on touchflo so the calender tab... it refreshed on its own moving the event to 6pm without me click one thing. If i can help any other way.... in case this may help set up the server thru activesync and not thru mail setup.
it helped a lot now clouds have dispersed.
gmail syncing
Something I noticed...I set my gmail to sync hourly but it does not do that at all. Both my hotmail accounts will sync hourly but whenever I go to my gmail app, the longest time before another sync was like 22 mins. I emailed myself something through gmail once and although my sync settings were still set at hourly, I got the email 10 minutes later. Idk what's going on with that. I just now put it on manually because I'm pretty sure its turning on my 3G more times than it should.

slightly different problem with gmail sync Hey everybody, I'm wondering if anybody else is having the same problem as me at the moment ? I've had the phone a few months now. I experienced a few issues with Hotmail and returned to using Gmail. It used to sync and push emails flawlessly, however it seems to have stopped working which is driving me mad. When I wake up, i'm used to seeing new messages waiting for me (mainly XDA forum news). However, the push functionality has stopped working. I open my inbox, and see a message indicating email is up to date. However, no new messages are displayed. When pushing the sync button, the inbox is synced and the new messages are displayed, despite the settings set for "as items arrive". Highly annoying and not very productive to have to check for messages manually. I played around with the settings trying various options, I even deleted the account and started over again (which was a pain re linking contacts etc, all to no avail. Can anybody help me to restore my push email please ? I'm getting really cheesed off now. Thanks Garrickus.
Could it be possible that your phone had synced with G-mail 50 minutes before you sent yourself an email, and then you received it 10 minutes later, after the scheduled hour?
BUMP
go to email account settings and check if it is showing any errors. happened to me once. I re-entered my username passoword and the error went away. Perhaps this is due to Google getting very picky these days as many gmail accounts are getting hacked.
Why not just leave it in 'push' mode? Unless you have a lot of emails every hour, push email uses less data than polling. Gmail's exchange activesync isn't exactly rock solid. Back in WM 6.xx days, I have to reset my account every few weeks.
Hotmail contacts disappeared all of a sudden?!?
I sync to hotmail for all my personal contacts and all of a sudden this morning none of my hotmail contacts are showing in my phone. Nothing has changed since last night and when I look in the account settings it is set up to sync contacts. Also when I go online my contacts are still in hotmail. My hotmail account is set up as an exchange active sync account and up until today it worked fine with no issues. When I go into the contacts app I don't have any contacts for that account and when I go into groups its not even listed there at all as an account. But like I said in the account settings it is listed as syncing contacts. Has anyone ever seen anything like this and fixed it? Or have any idea what causes it? Is it just some server issue on the hotmail side that will clear itself up randomly like it glitched out randomly? I highly doubt it's related but my phone has been unable to connect to the at&t update servers for a while now and never got the ota update I've heard about. TIA for any help. EDIT: so I tried deleting the account and re-adding it and now some contacts are showing but not all even though the account sync shows completed. And for a second the account was listed in the contact app groups and then I literally watched it disappear. I am completely at a loss here.
I'm experiencing the same problem and can’t find a solution. Not only my hotmail contacts keep disappearing from my standard contacts-app, also my hotmail-emails and agenda items keep disappearing. A few minutes later my smartphone tells me I’ve got new emails, but it just downloaded them back to my smartphone. The same with the contacts and agenda-items. I already did a hard reset with my smartphone, but it keeps deleting everything from hotmail. When I disable the synch-options for that account, it doesn’t delete my mails, contacts and agenda, but then again I have to manually look for new emails. EDIT: I just noticed, when de synch-option is disabled for contacts, my smartphone randomly deletes everything from hotmail including the contacts. Only the contacts stay deleted, while emails and agenda-items are downloaded again. So it probably has to be an issue with Galaxy S3 or Anroid. I've got: Model GT-I9300 with Android-version: 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) Just like "erikk" my Hotmail account is set up as an Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account.
GMAIL Sync Issue
Stock ROM, Gmail stopped syncing. No more email comes in unless I manually go and hit refresh in the Gmail app, or go to settings and force sync it. This just started happening. Have the phone for almost a month without any issues, then as of say an hour ago, it just stopped syncing emails. No error messages in the sync menu. Normally if there is an issue with sync, there is a red exclamation mark stating an issue, but there isn't any. It just shows that Gmail was last synced at the last time I manually synced it. Any thoughts?
Upon further testing, I see that Gmail does have an active connection to the server. If I mark an email unread in Gmail, it immediately reflects on the Gmail client in the Note II. If I send a test email, my Gmail.com shows the new email, but the Note II Gmail app does not until I manually sync it. It's very weird.
Clear data. Should work.
also you might try opening up your settings in gmail, and go through those settings. There is an option there to have gmail sync on or off. I was going to suggest clear data in the gmail app, but that already been suggested. I used to have this problem frequently on my last phone. I never found a permanent fix but did notice that somehow the settings in gmail would change by themselves and gmail sync on/off was one of them as well as the one where you can decide to let it notify you for every email or just once for the initial email.
