Hi there, the current CPU max for Desire HD on stock is 1GHz.
If we change to other custom ROMs and it allows us increase the normal 1GHz to say, 1.5GHz.. (overclocking?) will it damage our hardware?
Cause as far as I know the software should be supported with a powerful hardware as well.
Overclocking always has the possibility to damage the cpu. And as not all cpu's are the same, if you want to overclock, the best way is to start of slowly say 1.1ghz. And keep stepping it up slowly. If your device begins to get unstable, go back a step, and you will pretty much know the level of your cpu fyi ive had mine overclocked to 2ghz and it seemed to run fine, although i didnt keep it at that level for long. lol

I've been using minne over clocked at 1.5ghz since the day I bought it and I've not noticed anything as far as hardware failure. Being a computer technician I'm constantly trying to run what I have at the fastest rate without fail. I've not felt any overheating and per temps I've only seen about a 5-8°c increase over another user at work on the same ROM.

I have been running mine DHD at 1,2 for some time and ofc there is a chance that the CPU fries, because of the OC, but I don't think the chance is very big.
But please remember that the warranty of the phone dosn't cover overclocking
Hmm.. ok. Thanks for the advice.
I shall consider carefully before doing anything. Currently I am at only 1190MHz. Lol.
Anyway thanks again.
Well,I am running a really nice 1.8GHz,stable and fast as hell.Never noticed any overheating.
What most people should bear in mind is that the physical limits of our cpus aren't the ones that the manufacturers tell us they are with their spec sheets.Almost always, cpus are tested in higher clock speeds than what they are sold with, just to be stable and safe.
And one more thing.Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Flyer share the same cpu as the DHD?Cause it runs @1.5GHz stock. If they have the same cpu, guess what this means for us!

In my, I can use up to 1190, higher - websites in flash crash
ROM: Android Revolution HD 2.0.16
Kernel: Buzz OC/UV 1.61Ghz
What is a good program to test CPU stability ?

In setcpu,go to the info tab and do a stress test for some minutes. If it doesn't crash or anything you're good to go!
Thanks.
I did two ten-minute tests in SetCPU, the first 1,53Ghz and second 1.61Ghz, both without errors.
Anyone have any idea ?
Lol. Guess I will just try increasing the GHz slowly. Trying 1.3 now
I dived straight in, and set it to 1.5. No problems so far. Done a stress test successfully. But is there any need to increase the minimum level?

If you clocked your cpu too high, your complete phone will freeze. That means the only possibility to restart it is by pulling the battery.
If your browser closes suddenly without any notification, it's app related and not due to an overclocked cpu.

Can i overclock my HTC Desire HD when I still have the standard vodafone rom on it?
Can someone tell me how to do this pls?
Thnx

You're right pal.I don't remember who asked, and am too bored to look for it right now,but it also happened to me with stock unrooted rom.

Well,to overclock you'll need a custom kernel, which means you'll have to be rooted and have at least clockworkmod recovery installed.ENG and Radio S-OFF are recommended.

ok I know, but I do not understand why when I enter the page, for example: speedtest, after a few seconds the phone is completely frozen (o / c) 1.22Ghz
I watch movies, play games, do tests, benchmark, etc. (o / c) 1.22 Ghz - 1.53Ghz. Everything is ok.
just a few seconds in the flash player and death:
Did someone try do downclock CPU to say 800MHz. Will it improve battery life?

Yes you can, you need to root, s-off and install a custom kernel first though.

Yes underclocking will improve battery like, at the cost of performance

Flash it quite a cpu intensive task, thats why

Well,as AndroHero said,Flash is quite CPU intensive. However, your problem could be caused by the fact that your CPU isn't as "good" as others.By "not good" I don't mean that your CPU's quality is bad,it's just that it is unique like every CPU(nanometer scale devices like transistors are hard to be produced and be exactly the same one with another) and it might need you to up the voltages for higher frequencies. That by itself is no problem.
If the problem is indeed your CPU's limits,as it could be app related as Flussen said, and if you are running LeeDroid's rom or at least have his kernel installed,I could provide you with the OC script I am using myself. You see,I too am "suffering" from problems with the CPU not being able to handle too high overclocks,so I had to up voltages.Fortunately not much!

Well,in theory it should improve battery life. But calculating battery performance is a hard and tricky process.Just think about it this way;The CPU will run at lower voltages while at its reduced max frequency, thus needing a smaller electric current. However,it will need to run at the max speed for a larger amount of time. So,what you finally get is reduced drain, but for longer periods, meaning the gains in battery life could be minimum to non-existent.I for one am running 1.8GHz and battery life is just as good as @1GHz.
Hm If I use setcpu ,and I set it at 122-244 will I gain more battery?)(it will run slowly but still...)

Yes, it will make your battery last longer. I use "CPU tuner" (free) to set my processor to 246MHz all the time (using the "Extreme Save Battery" governor).
I also use "AutomateIt" (also free) to disable mobile data and disable sync when the screen turns off, and re-enable them when the screen comes on.

if you set it too slow yes it will slow down your dhd.. if you like try to set it to powersave. it will get a bit slower but it will also save a lot of battery
122-244? Isn't that very laggy?
It will be much slower than any other phone.. Even ZTE Blade will go faster

you mean 122MHz min and 244MHz max?
when i tried that it turned off my phone .. i dont think that its a good idea because it's a pity to have such a powerful phone and set it to that low..!

be careful and don´t go under 100 mhz because can be possible that your DHD don´t has strong enough to exit of the standby mode!
I use a modified CM7.1 and at 122-244 it works pretty smoth and fast....I could get used with it...and on quadrant i get around 600
I Have Htc Wilfire on 2.3.3 Running Cyanogen Mod Can I Over Clock It ?
Yes
You can find it under Settings->Cyanogen Mod settings->Performance
ye but which is the best like speed cos i dont want to break it ?
and is it max Cpu
It depends on you and your need.
And afaik all the speeds listed there are safe, but your phone MIGHT be unstable at 768.
thanks ill go in the 600 section thanks bro
I personaly have it at 729 and it's running as smooth as butter.
Just watch out that higher frequency=more battery drain.
I have 176mhz as min and 710mhz as max. no problem so far
min ----245MHz
max----614MHz (normal)
max----710MHz(gaming)
governor- interactive
gives the best result...
normal usage with live wallpaper(nexus)--30hrs backup appx
Im using HTC WILDFIRE - ROOTED - REVOLUTIONARY - CM 7.1.0.1 ANDROID 2.3.7.... But wen i use "setcpu" to overclock my CPU, i cannot oc above 691 Mhz.. i want to use 768 Mhz, so that i can run games smoothly... Please give me sloution to overclock above 768 Mhz...

Brother this is 3rd time i am replying you in this topic..
I have already suggest you too keep min 352 and Max 710 in setcpu which is very much stable for me...
If your phone is not supporting the overclocking more than 691 than you can flash a new kernel (may help).
You can use InfinityPlay from here
Make sure to take a nandroid...
and one thing whatever you do it will be sole responsibility of yours so read before doing anything..
I think the above explanations will help you...
Press Thanks if I helped you...

I have given you a link for InfinityPlay Kernel...to flash HCDR kernel You have to flash it via recovery 2.5.X.X
I suggest you to buy another phone. Stop waiting for magic from buzz lol.

I use scaling on demand 480-710 and it works fine : )
i run games fine on 652MHz, any higher and my launcher becomes jumpy and the system is just loose and unstable. Plus I see massive decrements in battery life at higher clock speeds.
Really u dont want to clock ur buzz higher than 700MHz - the battery and CPU will get too hot as there arent any cooling capabilities in a phone. If u want to game seriously buy a phone with a better processor if u want higher speeds than that.
Hi there,
Does anyone know what is max CPU speed on HTC Desire(bravo) GSM ??? But it has to be stable and realiable speed, with good performance. I am using No-Frills CPU software to set my CPU speed, and my max speed that I can set is 1.267,also it can be chosen slower speed.
So is software right, can I set it to max(or lower then max) speed and it wont brick or anything ???
I use Supernova XTREME ROM if that tells anything.
Thanks for answers,
Cubbe
mine is always set to 998 max (usually thats default) never needed to change it. soo if it aint broke dont fix it comes to mind
