I Have Htc Wilfire on 2.3.3 Running Cyanogen Mod Can I Over Clock It ?
Yes
You can find it under Settings->Cyanogen Mod settings->Performance
ye but which is the best like speed cos i dont want to break it ?
and is it max Cpu
It depends on you and your need.
And afaik all the speeds listed there are safe, but your phone MIGHT be unstable at 768.
thanks ill go in the 600 section thanks bro
I personaly have it at 729 and it's running as smooth as butter.
Just watch out that higher frequency=more battery drain.
I have 176mhz as min and 710mhz as max. no problem so far
min ----245MHz
max----614MHz (normal)
max----710MHz(gaming)
governor- interactive
gives the best result...
normal usage with live wallpaper(nexus)--30hrs backup appx

Hi everyone i just installed an app called CPUbenchmarking from the market , and @ my surprise it said that ur cpu speed is 550mghz !!!!!
shouldn't it be 1ghz ????
is there any other way to test my cpu frequency ?
Thx in advance .
I got 998mhz with same app.
yea same
The Desire is constantly underclocking itself when not in use, mine is regularly down at 285Mhz.
even when i run stress test it says 550 ...
i'm using MoDaCo R3.1 For Desire ...
and the hardware "field" is empty (when running the program it says
CPU SPEED : 550 MGHZ -- HARDWARE : )
is that normal ?
anyother program to check the frequency ?
thanks !
EDIT : Installed a widget from the market ( altough the dev himself said to not isntall it in its comment ... )
and it showed many change of frequency ...
first 245 as soon as going to camera , 998 , then 768 , and then Droping to 245 ...
so why CpuBenchmarking can't see the correct Frequency ??
thx
For me it says too 550GHz, but who cares. Have you worked on a 550GHz CPU phone? I did 5 hours ago. It's S.L.O.W.
The desire reduces speed when not needed but boosts it when needed, best way to run a phone as ut saved battery life.

Not all programs report things accurately. Ignore it.

I'm guessing you mean 550 MHz because i don't think they make desktop processors which go 550 GHz so let a lone a phone.

Widget :=> TEMP+CPU
SetCPU and force it to run at 998mhz all the time. But obviously your battery will drain and phone could possibly have heat problems.

Yes, I ment 550MHz. Typos happen time after time

Can we please switch phones? :> hehe
And if you think 550GHz is slow you have some awesome requirements xD
Jokes away..
@op
I don't think you should take it so seriously you wouldn't be in doubt if you only had a 550M processor
i think the software was buggy ...
installed Quadrant benchmark , and it gave me a full spec of my Cpu ( max freq , min frequ , current frequ , ... ) and it was correct ... 998mghz ...
thx everyone
I have htc wildfire s ...i hav rooted ...i want to overclock it 806 mhz.....pls tell me the procedure to overclock..
I am using htc wildfire rom ..pls help
First you need a kernel that supports overclocking.
If you using a stock Rom then look for the kernel that matches your Android version eg. 2.3.3 or 2.3.5 you will find them in the development section posted by Jikantaru
If you install a custom Rom then it will most likely have an overclockable kernel baked in.
To change clock settings I recommend 'no frills CPU' search it in the market or you could use set CPU.
Once you install one of the above apps then change the min and max sliders to the desired frequency.
if we over clock it much does it effect the speed or hardware of the phone?
Your phone may hang.
There is SetCPU for XDA members:

You will definitely get better performance and it shouldn't cause you any problems.
Use no frills CPU I find its better than set CPU, when restarting your phone set CPU doesn't keep your overclock settings even though its set on boot.
As for the govonor settings I would choose smartass2 and noop for the scheduler.
I would keep the minimum frequency on 245MHz it can go lower but it could cause some issues (lag and slow unlocking and waking)
Note: not all cpu's are capable of running at the same speed, I'm lucky mine can run at 806MHz but some people have issues.
If you notice any problems like freezing etc, then drop the speed to a lower frequency until you find the sweet spot for your CPU.
I had mine at 806 MHz with no problems

so it wont cause hardware problems only lagging and other stuff

Should be fine mate.
But remember if in the very unlikely event something does go wrong I wont be held responsible.
youll have to need an overclock kernel for that. (and a rom which supports one)
go for dust kernel or cake kernel! These two are well known for high end kernels!
Hi
I have installed this ROM Cool IceCream Sense v2|Android 2.3.4|FAST|STABLE|DATA++/STOCK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279016
and I see that the processor on my HTC Desire is now reading 1.2Ghz.
Is there any detrement to running at this increased speed from standard 1Ghz does any one know please?
I would personally rather my phone was still running at the orginal speed but I guess that this is a feature of this ROM and not something I can change?
Rooted but S-on

Use Daemon Controller and choose your own speed, but ROM Developers they put in theyr ROM, kernels which are best for this ROM, but of course you are free to try other values.
thank you, brilliant, I will now go and research the options and learn how to change it down to 1ghz.

open Daemon Controller, go to OCD, choose:
Wake Min: 128000
Wake Max: 998400
Wake Gov: smartassV2
Sleep Min: 128000
Sleep Max: 422400
Sleep Gov: ondemand
Daemon Controller
Any best settings for desire with Daemon Controller? I want some settings that would run Desire smooth without any problems and I don't want the default to use.
I have discovered some instability with the min sleep frequency. I suggest you use something over 200 lower values gave me instability with music playback while screen off. The impact on batterylife is minimal...

Installed CM 7.2 but noticed that battery life is not as good as expected as its using ondemand governor all the time. Any suggestions to improve it?
Also can someone tell me which of the following two will save more battery and have better performance!
1.
Awake: Ondemand, min 245MHz, max 806
Sleep: Ondemand, min 245, max 360
2.
Awake: Consevative, min 245MHz, max 1113
Sleep: Consevative, min 245, max 499

Anyway, use smartassV2 as governer for both, and if you want more juice don't OC, so no freq beyond 998.

thanks but my CM 7.2 does not have a smartassv2 governer :\ and will 998 vs 806 MHz have much diff in battery life?

No it won't give you much difference.
Go here and find a descent AOSP kernel (in example tiamat's kernel) and flash it then you will have smartassV2.

last question in above scenario should i replace conservative too with smartassV2? i know there will be big diff in bettery saving but how much diff will it make on battery (above scenario)
It should be a noticeable improvement since smartass has the best freq management (something like various freqs between highest and lowest).
But if you want best battery life, and you like AOSP, MIUI is the best, trust me.

Mildwild is not supported with int2sd. There is no difference in battery life because int2sd doesn't have anything to do with it. Int2sd is a script that mounts you sd-ext partition as internal storage and uses data partition only for apps data so you have a plenty of space on your inrernal storage. Go to the thread I linked you and you'll se what I want to say. If you decide to try choose int2sd-s type of rom.

I use smartassv2 , and honestly its just awesome. My phone never lags, doesnt overheat at all , saves a good amount of battery
Downloaded Tiamat 4.1.0 kernel but now how do i install it? tried Kernel Manager free but it gives its default list which has tiamat 4.0.8, it does not allow to install kernel from sd card.
PS: hope tiamat kernel works on stock boot loader!

It will affect battery if you go higher, also the system can become inconsistent with high values like thate. For me it never worked on more than 115.
Sent from my HTC Desire using flashes and thunders
ok keeping it on 998 only... preformance seems to be good
For me the system sometimes got instable at the lowest possible frequency. Sometimes the whole system freezed.
I would rather recommend you to use 245 MHz as lowest. It won't use much more battery.

not facing any issues till now! lets see...
Hi there,
Does anyone know what is max CPU speed on HTC Desire(bravo) GSM ??? But it has to be stable and realiable speed, with good performance. I am using No-Frills CPU software to set my CPU speed, and my max speed that I can set is 1.267,also it can be chosen slower speed.
So is software right, can I set it to max(or lower then max) speed and it wont brick or anything ???
I use Supernova XTREME ROM if that tells anything.
Thanks for answers,
Cubbe
mine is always set to 998 max (usually thats default) never needed to change it. soo if it aint broke dont fix it comes to mind
