Im using HTC WILDFIRE - ROOTED - REVOLUTIONARY - CM 7.1.0.1 ANDROID 2.3.7.... But wen i use "setcpu" to overclock my CPU, i cannot oc above 691 Mhz.. i want to use 768 Mhz, so that i can run games smoothly... Please give me sloution to overclock above 768 Mhz...
Also suggest me a recent good ROM, now im using cm 7.1.0.1, PLease suggest me recent ROM that will work fine for games and can overclock to maximum...

Brother this is 3rd time i am replying you in this topic..
I have already suggest you too keep min 352 and Max 710 in setcpu which is very much stable for me...
If your phone is not supporting the overclocking more than 691 than you can flash a new kernel (may help).
You can use InfinityPlay from here
Make sure to take a nandroid...
and one thing whatever you do it will be sole responsibility of yours so read before doing anything..
I think the above explanations will help you...
Press Thanks if I helped you...

I have given you a link for InfinityPlay Kernel...to flash HCDR kernel You have to flash it via recovery 2.5.X.X
I suggest you to buy another phone. Stop waiting for magic from buzz lol.

I use scaling on demand 480-710 and it works fine : )
i run games fine on 652MHz, any higher and my launcher becomes jumpy and the system is just loose and unstable. Plus I see massive decrements in battery life at higher clock speeds.
Really u dont want to clock ur buzz higher than 700MHz - the battery and CPU will get too hot as there arent any cooling capabilities in a phone. If u want to game seriously buy a phone with a better processor if u want higher speeds than that.

Hello, to start yes I'm really stupid! I did watch the video in the start to try and find the answer to the following questions but it just confuses me and I would really like to get this done, thanks and on to the question!
So minutes ago I got my CM7 working for the first time! And right away I wanted to increase the clock of my CPU but it won't go higher then 768 on setcpu. From what I managed to understand its because of the kernel... So is it possible to increase the max clock with another kernel, if so whitch one and how much is safe to clock?
Thanks!
HTC Buzz (Wildfire)
Android version 2.3.7
Kernel version 2.6.35.14
Mod: Cyanogen 7.1.0.1 build GWK74
Yes its the kernel that controls CPU speed, test it for a while at 768mhz as not many wildfires can even cope with that, if you have problems random reboots, freezing etc then turn it down a little.
Kieranftw made a kernel called infinity ice or play I think? which made it possible to oc at 788 or 800mhz, mine was fine at 788 but very unstable at 800 so now I just settle for 768 as I didn't really notice a difference between the two, any higher than that is asking for trouble imo.
ok thanks for the answer, ive had no errors with the current settings, maybe ill keep it like this for the moment
I have htc wildfire s ...i hav rooted ...i want to overclock it 806 mhz.....pls tell me the procedure to overclock..
I am using htc wildfire rom ..pls help
First you need a kernel that supports overclocking.
If you using a stock Rom then look for the kernel that matches your Android version eg. 2.3.3 or 2.3.5 you will find them in the development section posted by Jikantaru
If you install a custom Rom then it will most likely have an overclockable kernel baked in.
To change clock settings I recommend 'no frills CPU' search it in the market or you could use set CPU.
Once you install one of the above apps then change the min and max sliders to the desired frequency.
if we over clock it much does it effect the speed or hardware of the phone?
Your phone may hang.
There is SetCPU for XDA members:

You will definitely get better performance and it shouldn't cause you any problems.
Use no frills CPU I find its better than set CPU, when restarting your phone set CPU doesn't keep your overclock settings even though its set on boot.
As for the govonor settings I would choose smartass2 and noop for the scheduler.
I would keep the minimum frequency on 245MHz it can go lower but it could cause some issues (lag and slow unlocking and waking)
Note: not all cpu's are capable of running at the same speed, I'm lucky mine can run at 806MHz but some people have issues.
If you notice any problems like freezing etc, then drop the speed to a lower frequency until you find the sweet spot for your CPU.
I had mine at 806 MHz with no problems

so it wont cause hardware problems only lagging and other stuff

Should be fine mate.
But remember if in the very unlikely event something does go wrong I wont be held responsible.
youll have to need an overclock kernel for that. (and a rom which supports one)
go for dust kernel or cake kernel! These two are well known for high end kernels!
Hello people !
First a Fall , I am a member since a long time here , but never used to interact as i had jumped off the android bandwagon . Now i am back with a band with my new purchase of a really Awesome Samsung S3 :fingers-crossed:
i need Some help from you guys for a project i am writing .
I am writing on how under-clocking and over clocking an android SmartPhone would affect its hardware & software. mainly Focusing on How would the changed affect its performance , Stability and Battery life . And finally arriving at an optimum clock speed and if possible and algorithm to finding that optimum clock speed if its there .

All i am asking you guys is how can i go about this ? what all do i need to do to change the clock speed of my play ?
what apps can help me measure the battery life , stability and perfomance cahnges ?
basically please help me in anyway you can !
i will credit everyone in my study who helps :victory:

To over clock or vice versa, you need to have a custom kernel that allows it. A custom ROM is also good, but not always needed, but it is suggested Some apps on the market have over clocking abilities but an over clocking kernel is needed that is compatible. Also those apps have a kernel, but is specific to some devices. But go to your device's forums and find a kernel that has over clocking abilities then flash it. Some apps just allow you to over clock to the SET speeds of the kernel being used. Also for battery life, I suggest you use betterbattery stats on the market.

SO which config would be the best ?
hey Thanks for your help bro !
considering i am already in the forums for my device , can someone recommend the best kernel and the best rom to install ?
And how do i go about installing it ?
PLease keep in mind it should be able to support maximum over clocking and underclocking .
Thanks !
Underclocking is doable with just root access, which can be obtained by using ZergRush. This will only work on firmware 4.0.2.A.0.58 or lower.
For overclocking, I would recommend DooMKerneL which requires an unlocked bootloader. It supports frequencies of 134MHz to 2GHz, though I think the stock kernel can go down to 122MHz or 128MHz or something (DooM changed the frequency table in his kernel).
To test the stability of your phone after overclocking, you can run stress tests with StabilityTest. Underclocking will not change the stability of the phone, it'll just make it slower.
My favorite ROM is Gin2JB, although anything stock-gingerbread-based should work just as well.
For testing performance, I recommend AnTuTu
Thanks again
Thanks for your help !
Now one question , does doomkernel have inbuilt over clocking and under clocking ?
also as you said it resitricts the underclocking to 134 Mhz but the stock goes to 122 Mhz . isnt thier a way to make this one also go the lowest possible value?
and what about the Adreno 205 @ 245 MHz GPU that the play has .. can we overclock underclock that somehow ?
Thanks again
Yes overclocking capability is built into DooMKerneL, and of course underclocking. You'd have to talk to DooM about putting in lower frequencies if you want anything lower than 134MHz in his kernel. He tried overclocking the GPU at one point, but it oddly gave worse performance in a blind-test so he removed it.
While we're one the subject of over clocking, you NEED an app like SetCPU to overclock right? Just wanna make sure DooMkernel isn't already set to 2.ghz. Yeah probably a noob question...

Yes, you need an overclocking app. I think it defaults to Min:249Mhz Max:1017MHz. The Min might be lower, dunno. The Max definitely is 1017MHz (1GHZ) until you specifically tell it to overclock though
I would like it if theres a kernel that ALSO allows to underclock and overclock teh GPU AND CPU .
Otherwise i take it , Doom is the best to go forward with right ?
i have a xperia arc and i have installed lupus kernel on it but in only allows me to overclock to 1.6ghz and i also tried arc knight kernel but it also only allow me to overclock to 1.6 ghz . how i can i overclock to 2ghz using one of these kernels i am using xperia ultimate hd tom
P.S - i have tried doomkernel and it allows me to overclock upto 2ghz but it is not working with internal memory increase mod , so please don't recommend it

Oh man , I really wouldn't do this! You got a 1.4ghz phone and oc to 1.6 is fully okay.
I warned you , you will be responsible when your phone doesn't want to start no more anyday.
UHD Rom hasn't so much increases than the Stock Rom , it got only small increases.
Try a Cyanogenmod 9 Rom , they are fast , and the batterylife is only WOAH!
CM9 is only avalible for unlocked bootloader.

Oh okay then this overclocking isn't soooo hard
Use CM9 , cause Arc/S handle Ice Cream Sandwich best.
CM10 is good too , but after 4-5 days it hangs over a gain!
Overclocking does not give you any noticeable performance boost, don't count on it. Better look, what is causing the lag in your phone.

ICS is very very very bad for gaming. Use Gingerbread, works best for games. JB might also do the deal, but still GB has best performance.

My Grand is rebooting frequently after installing carbon rom and nebula kernel
When I run any game, It starts to reboot. This happens even , when the screen is off.
That's why I reverted back to cm11

It's not because of ROM man.... It's kernel who giving random reboots.. U really should read at least few pages of it before flashing brother ... It's under development... Hope we get a stable kernel (nebula kernel ) soon.....
Till then.. Just use pre included one in ROM
Hope i helped

Nebula kernel is really unstable, I suggest you not flash it if you're planning to use it as a daily driver. Carbon/CM11 default kernel is already snappy, but if you want more governor/IO scheduler/overclocking more than 1.3 GHz then try k2wl's evolution kernel.
It still doesn't have KSM (kernel samepage merging) which is supposed to lower the RAM usage, but I think all AOSP-based ROMs are already very low on RAM usage.

Well holidays are already over, so I guess he's now busy with work/school/college. Devs are just regular guys...
The KSM feature isn't that much of a different anyway... What I'm hoping to see in next version is more frequency steps... as of now it is 312-600-800-1200-more but it should be better if like this: 100-200-312-400-500-600-700-800-900-1000-1100-1200... Hahaha maybe I'm asking a bit too much.

Why would anyone want to drop as low as 100 Mhz if 312 is good and battery saving??

Yes I think it will... because there are some apps that sync in the background (such as Google apps) even when the device is asleep. With the current frequency steps it is either Deep Sleep (no CPU activity at all) or 312 MHz... and I think 312 MHz is still too high for only background app syncing while asleep... just my 2 cents. :silly:
But I imagine people who use conservative governor will have a hard time using 100 MHz as the minimum frequency... because the governor scales the freq so slow, the phone will lag a lot longer when waking up :silly:
