Yes, it will make your battery last longer. I use "CPU tuner" (free) to set my processor to 246MHz all the time (using the "Extreme Save Battery" governor).
I also use "AutomateIt" (also free) to disable mobile data and disable sync when the screen turns off, and re-enable them when the screen comes on.

if you set it too slow yes it will slow down your dhd.. if you like try to set it to powersave. it will get a bit slower but it will also save a lot of battery
122-244? Isn't that very laggy?
It will be much slower than any other phone.. Even ZTE Blade will go faster

when i tried that it turned off my phone .. i dont think that its a good idea because it's a pity to have such a powerful phone and set it to that low..!

be careful and don´t go under 100 mhz because can be possible that your DHD don´t has strong enough to exit of the standby mode!
I use a modified CM7.1 and at 122-244 it works pretty smoth and fast....I could get used with it...and on quadrant i get around 600

Doesn't that defeat the object?
Having it on Max (as it originally was) would make no change at all.
Idea is to slow the processor down in certain circumstances and help reduce power and battery drainage.

Undervolt reduces power usage, not underclock.
Non-sense roms can be overclocked but you have to set it. Ie set it to Max.
whats this about using a text file on the memory card to make it run better?
I have Milestone cpu program and I wonder in what speed is safe to put the cpu run.I have it on 1000 but I dont know if it is safe.I would like to inform me the safest speed to put it.
Thanks

1000 is absolutely safe...quite a few people even run it on 1200mhz, and that is also considered safe (i personally dont see any reason why anybody needs more than 1000mhz)..

you mean milestone overclock? use setvsel instead, thats specially for the defy, and has more options than milestone overclock. and yeah, 1ghz is perfectly safe, our TI 3630s default clock is 1ghz, so 800mhz is an underclock. also try undervolting, the voltages are waay too high by default!
i used Milestone Overclock and now i feel like my defy is running smoother, and more reactive @1300 but i dont know if thats just my defy
*and dont try overclockin to 1400 because the system goes through a melt down and becomes heavy so keep to 1300 at max*

nope, thats not what i mean, use setvsel for voltage settings. read this article. i dont see the point in overclocking the phone more than to 1ghz, it drains much faster and get really hot, but you wont really see the performance difference.
btw, my settings are:

I could run on lower vsels, but i wanted a perfectly stable phone, so i raised every vsel by 2.

simply uninstall milestone overclock, and only use setvsel. setvsel is a full featured overclock utility specially for the defy, you dont need anything else. just set the frequencies and the vsels in setvsel, and apply!

If i unistall the milestone program and let the SetVsel....in the Vsel up it has the 3 values 300 - 600 - 1000 and the vsets...it also has a scroll bar that in me is at 86%..this is ok or i must change it?
Litle down from this bar has some other values and a test...how does all that values work??
And if i need to put it to 1.300 hz i just change the 1000 to 1.300???

I see a big difference in performance between 1000 and 1200. :/ also I've only seen a difference of 1 hour battery life between the two speeds, which still means I have 35% left after 1 day use. From 6.50 to 23.30 each day

can anyone suggest a good overclock tool with voltage parameters? setcpu doesn't seem to have one for the play... and antutu seems bugged when setting voltages... (keeps changing the value for 1300mhz to 1300mv)

I'm using Antutu CPU Master Pro and I don't find it buggy. This is better to use imo than setcpu which consumes more battery. Longpress the frequency you are in and using then set to -25mv. Tick on "set on boot" then click "apply". Reboot your phone and check again your settings if it was changed or not. Also, try to reinstall your overclocking app and clear some cache on your phone.

i do agree that antutu is very good... but the problems started when i updated to 2.5... i was using 2.3 before
is -25 the lowest it can go??? isnt -50 safe?
EDIT: also in 2.5 it keeps saying that it has been granted superuser permissions... in 2.3 it only does that whenever i change any setting...
I use OC/UV Beater2v1.7, and it's awesome! Unlike setcpu, it won't run in the background, but rather sets up scripts in init.d (don't set as permanent unless you're 100% sure of your OC/UV settings, otherwise bootloops can occur)

I use 2.3.1 version. I tried -50 on setcpu and it crashed my phone. Haven't tried -50 yet on Antutu. I rolled back my speed from 1.5ghz to around 900+mhz as the speed is still fast (btw im using T.E.A.M. rom).

Hi!
It's the summer where I live and it's like above 40°C in my appartment (Yeah, I've a free sauna, jealous?), and this cause my One X to overheat all the time, I'm not even doing "heavy" stuff, just browsing the Internet or Facebook via Wifi, I already tried to slow down the CPU to 1200Mhz but it is still very hot, is there a solution to avoid this issue (apart from "DON'T TOUCH IT!"), I can't believe that Taiwan is a cold country and that the HTC was not made to work at 40°C...
You can see my ROM and Kernel above this message (signature) I'm trying to install Viper ROM to see if it fixes the issue... :fingers-crossed:
Nevermind, I fixed it, I used wrong voltage and too low down threshold value in SetCPU which caused the CPU to overheat and stand longer activated, silly me

i would like to know the same thing, what voltage calibration did you use and when you were able to get the temp down to what you liked did you still have good gaming performance?

Wow, what a up !
Seriously though, I'm not using my HTC One X anymore, but last time I used it, I used Faux kernel with -100 uV and some Ondemand governor tweaks (mostly to lower frequencies at as state that is just above lags) and it was running lagfree and a lot cooler than stock, but I hope you don't mind loosing a bit of 3D perf...
Hello guys!
Is there any way to remove the underclock feature in Xperia S? I know the CPU will underclock itself to prevent overheating but this is just ruining my gaming experience
I'm not an excessive gamer,I play games just around 30 minutes but the automatic underclock is annoying
It makes the game very laggy and barely playable, and I mean HD games of course.
I know that I could always open any CPU app like SetCPU,No Frills, etc and raise the CPU clock back to normal but I just don't want to switch back and forth. I want to play undisturbed
There is a thread here (Yes,I've tried searching before posting) But I'm not sure if it's relevant.
Also, there is an app called "Overheat Control" (See attachment). Is it safe to remove this app?
Thank you!
+1

Just use set cpu and set the speed between 1000 and 1500 mhz and it won't underclock and lag
