Hello guys!
Is there any way to remove the underclock feature in Xperia S? I know the CPU will underclock itself to prevent overheating but this is just ruining my gaming experience
I'm not an excessive gamer,I play games just around 30 minutes but the automatic underclock is annoying
It makes the game very laggy and barely playable, and I mean HD games of course.
I know that I could always open any CPU app like SetCPU,No Frills, etc and raise the CPU clock back to normal but I just don't want to switch back and forth. I want to play undisturbed
There is a thread here (Yes,I've tried searching before posting) But I'm not sure if it's relevant.
Also, there is an app called "Overheat Control" (See attachment). Is it safe to remove this app?
Thank you!
+1

It really works and helps ,tried it by myself.
Just use set cpu and set the speed between 1000 and 1500 mhz and it won't underclock and lag

Hi guys,
I would like to tweak the voltage settings for high cpu settings eg. 2 Ghz on doomkernel but everytime I undervolt a little and I put the phone in sleep mode, it just turns off completely so there is definitely something wrong in my setting and I don't know how to set how much voltage for each cpu settings.
Can anyone give a recommended setting to undervolt?
Thank you.

It seems it's turning off because the clock frequency isn't getting enough power for that speed, try adjusting at 1.6ghz because 2.0ghz doesn't give that much benefit vs 1,6ghz

Hi thank you for the reply. So how much voltage do you recommend I set for the 1.6 ghz one? And how about the settings for the settings > 1.6 ghz?
Thank you.
I've noticed an unusual issue across various roms and kernels (including stock) I use setcpu to fix clockspeed at 1200 (both sliders set to 1200 and governor set to performance), when playing intensive games such as modern combat 3 or FPSE for a while and then looking at cpu spy i notice that the cpu has actually clocked down to lower speeds at various stages. This causes noticeable lag with FPSE.
This only seems to happen when playing intensive game apps. Has anyone experienced this or know why this could be happening?
Thanks
What temps you have when playing? Is your CPU overclocked? Sounds like CPU throttling to me.
Pray with me together: "Oh God, please send us gokhanmoral and tegrak to Galaxy Nexus forums here at XDA, so they can create a superb kernel and 2nd Core app that will save our GN from burning to ashes while gaming. Thank you, enjoy your weekend".
CPU is not overclocked, just fixed at 1200 using setcpu so it should not throttle down, this is what puzzles me

No no no no, you can't install some app (SetCPU) and tell it "burn my CPU" That's hardware level protection and you can not bypass it that easy.
setcpu is commonly used to control the clockspeed so if I set it to 1200 with performance governor this is what the clock rate should stay at irrespective of what app is running - and it does exactly this all the time except when i'm playing intensive games where it seems to throttle down to lower various levels.
This is just a way for me to maximise performance albeit at a cost of power consumption.
I'd be grateful if anyone else with setcpu and cpuspy could test this playing an intensive game. Not sure if its an issue with my G Nexus or perhaps I have misunderstood how setcpu works?

Wrong. Overheat protection works at hardware level and it always will have higher priority then any app. Same way works desktop CPU's: you can set desired clock in BIOS, but CPU will throttle it self if temperature exceeds (for example) +80C and there's a reason for that!

Before replying i tested that myself and there was noticeable CPU throttling after temp went over +40C or so.
EDIT: to backup my words - external link
"Dynamically controlled voltage, frequency and power based on device activity, modes of operation and temperature"
makes sense...nice call...is there a throttle governor hack?...to allow us gamers to have the values up a little higher?..i know its not good but is it possible...good thread and help here thank you...

Even if there was a way to get around the issue (if its indeed temperature throttling) you wouldn't want to do it unless you want a to a brick.
Whats FPSE? Also I've yet to notice slowdown in any game except GTA but thats a port.
Hi all I'm fairly new to these forums, although I have been watching from afar for quite some while now!
I have been trying out custom roms and various kernels and was wondering how do I go about overclocking my device? Only reason I am asking is because I was checking out benckmark results for other devices and noticed some can be particularly high.
Any insight would be most appreciated!
I wouldnt try any overclocking on the HOX because of the heat issues. A more safe and stable way of doing it is changing the govenor of the kernel or forcing cores online. I think you can use core control (in the apps and themes section) to change core behaviour and system tuner to change govenor.

I have now installed core control. Got to admit it is nice having the option to save a bit more power. How much as an estimate do each of cores use anyway just out of interest?

you can download an app called tegrastats to find out more but all you should know is this. once you activate the corecontrol and depending what app you use you should be fine. if i was you i would also use no-frills cpu app. that way you can underclock and would save you more juice

Fantastic! Many thanks for the advice. I have now installed no-frills cpu, and started to tinker around with the settings. Could I ask as I am still fairly new to some of this, when I first went on to the settings both maximum and minimum were set to 1.5 GHz (Not sure if it was just saying this on the app or not or if these are the actual settings) but I would guess this would use a lot more power am I right?

yes you are right. put the min frequency to say 200 or 300 mhz and then press apply on boot and then reboot and you should be fine
I touched some no frills cpu control settings and now my benchmark results are about 19000-22000 and it used to be like 24000 i tried changing the rom and all that stuff if someone can give me the stock governator and all frequencys and that stuff it would be helpful.. Thanks i need help i dont know what to do
Now i cant do any better than 23000

Firstly, I assume by the size score that you are using Antutututu. If so then you always get variance in the scores, and yes it can be 4k difference.
Next, I'm gonna bet that you are seeing thermal throttling, where the device is turning off 2 of the cores due to heat.
I've only noticed this behaviour recently myself. It's a real pain in the arse. I've downloaded trinity kernel app to get around the problem. In his app you can turn off thermal throttling and force the two other Cores to stay on.
This isn't a permanent fix though as the settings don't want to stick for some reason that is beyond me.
Next, is there no reset to default in no frills cpu app ?
Or you can uninstall no frills and make sure you delete any folders off your sd card, then either reflash your rom or you could even flash AICP kernel.
This should get you back to default.
Finally if you still think it's your settings, you could tell us all the settings you have changed and between the guys on the forum we could tell you what to change back to.
All the best rich
**just had a quick look at no frills on play Store. Looks like there's not loads to alter.
I like interactive governer and row scheduler (as we can't get row I use deadline.)
Min frequency wants to be at 384 and max at 1728.
That's the basics.

Hi to all.
I've just rooted my Tab S and looking for an app to manage cpu clock with stock kernel (I want to underclock it a bit to save some battery as I'm not a gamer).
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.
PS: Sorry for my english!

Just use a CPU management app such as setcpu, but it's a bit pointless anyway. The CPU will only ramp up when needed, so if you don't game you won't have high CPU usage.

I'm asking cause the one I use on other device doesn't work on Lollipop (don't know if SetCPU works on LP as it hasn't been updated).
AFAIK cpu ramps up a lot, even when web surfing or reading.
I'm looking for an intermediate state between default and power saver mode.
Thanks.
