I have a T mobile branded Touch Pro 2
and the screen won't turn on. I can receive phone calls and talk on the phone using my wired headset to answer the phone
But that defeats the whole purpose of having a phone when i can't send texts or even make phone calls.
Its flashed with the Energy Rom Cookie June8 ROM
Anyways my question is When i turn it back in for a warranty exchange
, THey are mailing me a new phone and i have to ship the old one back
Do i have to flash the phone back to its stock ROM?
Thanks
:]
Yea you definetly need to flash it with the stock rom.
If you don't they will either charge you for the device for original price or make you send the warranty device back and let you keep the device that is defective/void your warranty for that device.
Don't forget to undo hardspl.
Hmmm how would i come about doing this?
I have not yet seen the stock rom on the the XDA forums and i don't know how to undo Hard SPL
Please lend me a hand
Thanks :]
Near the bottom of Post #2, there are instruction on what to do for warranty returns.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131
You absolutely need to flash back to stock ROM and radio, and restore SPL. First thing they do is start the bootloader and see right on there that you have HardSPLed. Then your warranty will be void, and they will charge you full price for the new phone or repair.
I ran into a bit of a problem.
Since the screen won't turn on. even at the loading screen. will they even find out?

Presumably they will fix the screen, at which time they will notice the flashed ROM.
HMm i flashed in the stock rom provided above *thanks*
But when i try to UNDO the HARD SPL it gives me a 202 Connection Error.
ANy ideaS?
I don't know where (TMobile's a German company) you are but in the EU ALL electrical equipment sold has to, BY LAW, come with a 2yr manufacturers warranty. Within that 2yr period the manufacturer has to PROVE that what you have done has damaged the equipment. I'd say that's pretty mmuch impossible to do with unless you're doing something fairly extreme such as overclocking
K never mind Got the screen to work and surprisingly its still working since i've reflashed with the stock rom. Interesting........
UNDO hard SPL Completed.
Screen still does not turn on after it has been put to sleep.

Hey guys,
I finally got my 2nd hermes flashed the way I wanted it when I realized the camera wasn't being recognized. After trying other roms which also had the same issue, I decided to try the windows mobile that came with it. Installed it back and sure enough, no camera. So I have a new phone coming through the warranty exchange. I have the original radio and os on it, however I still have the Opri bootloader on it. Is there a way to flash that back as well? Will they even look that deep into the phone? When the get it back if the determine the phone to be 'out of warranty' due to whatever reason, they charge you $495...
Thanks,
nomb
Wow, 61 views and no one has any suggestions?
...JS..
I've had to get new phone through the warranty exchange due to not being able to make calls, but could receive them. I had flashed numerous roms, but managed to get it back to original. Didn't have original radio on it though, and heard nothing from them. I'm not sure how deep they dig, but if they missed the radio, they musted go to far.

This mentions how to downgrade the SPL however I don't think it is too much of an issue.
at least you have a few responses!!
Thanks guys. I will hopefully be able to get the bootloader back down, and then it will be fully back to normal. Guess what tho. I got my new hermes in the mail today, and it was messed up and wouldn't let you put the stylus in it... After like 2 hours and numerous calls and a lot of frustration, I'm getting a free keiser!!! woot!!!

I had a similar issue this week.
My phone died, it lost the radio rom and nothing I could do would get it to function as a phone again. Though I was sure they wouldn't be happy getting a phone back to be repaired under warranty that had been flashed.
I couldn't downgrade the boot loader, but I did manage to get the original ROM on it with some jiggery pokery. It wouldn't take any rom with a radio rom included. So took the radio rom out of the original operators release and it took that no worries. Now when powered up it had the operators splash screen but then came up NO GSM.
They must have liked it as I got a brand new handset yesterday, not a refurb. So guess what I will be doing later.........flash flash flash.
I don't think they look that deeply at them, probably see if it will power up, then try to cure all ill's by flashing it with the latest operator ROM.
Always suspected they didn't look to deep. Probably get loads returned from people flashing etc. Interesting if we could get someone on board who actually works there and get their response
Hey guys. Ive had HTC TOUCH PRO 2 for about 2-3 weeks. Ive dropped it only once, little scratch on corner and now the battery cover doesnt close all the way. Phone works fine. I pay the $5.99 which is the highest warranty/insurance coverage. I want to call customer care and get a replacement by saying that my phone is acting up. Tmobile had gone down last night and only 5% of the users went through this and i was one of them.(my luck) Not being able to make calls/texts/emails/ or anything else. Im not worried about them saying oh your cover wasnt fit good where going to have to charge you the fee of the phone (becuz im sure theyll let that go, righT?), what im worried about is how i did the HARD SPL rom and wingster rom on my phone. Will that void my warratny? Will they be able to tell? Thank you
If they see that the Rom is not the stock rom it will be considered altering the equipment and yes it will void the warranty!

how can i replace it to the stock rom?
Just reflash the stock rom, stock radio, and then undo the hardspsl. all of that can pretty much be found in the Rhodium Roms section stickies.
or just grab a replacement battery cover on Ebay lol
I have a problem with proximity or light sensor. During the call the screen locks itself and there is no way to use the phone, even to hangup unless i put the phone near the extreme light.
It may have been a coincidence but it started when i rooted the phone, pre-rooted rom from modaco, but today i also tried mcr and even restored original rom but to no luck. same things happening. What should i do? I dont want to be without the phone for weeks.
If you ot it as part of a phone contract, go up to your local shop, demonstrate the problem and ask for a new unit. (I would suggest unrooting first, as not to raise questions)
If you bought it from somewhere else, then you either have the option of hoping it's a software fault and wait for someone here to give you a fix, or send it back for repair to HTC.

Thanks. Really helpful.
Yeah i already unrooted, wondered if it was root/software related. Also it is under contract, have for a month now. Sad part, in NL they dont really exchange the phone, they usually send it. But i do have insurance, so they should give me another one. I dont wnt to go back to WM or uiq 3.
i tried updating my radio to the newest one...so i clicked it...looked away and i had a gray screen then the phone turned off....now it wont power back on at all...not even in recovery...and when plugged into a/c power i dont even get the amber light...what the hell should i do....thanks
What do you mean, you clicked it? Which of the two radio versions? Were you in recovery, ROM Manager, etc..? More detail!

are you rooted or stock? this happened to me once, but it seems that i had a bad rom install. i was able to boot into recovery mode and just restore my nandroid backup of the previous rom. hope this helps.
if you're not even getting the charging light, you're most probably bricked. sorry man.
RIP to your Evo.
i downloaded the newest radio like 7.28,,,then was in rom manager and selected the radio to install from sd card,,,clicked ok...i looked away for maybe 10 seconds and then i saw an all gray screen...then it powered off...now i cant get it to turn on...yes i was rooted...

I know may sound stupid but remove battery for a minute or so and try again... was your batt low when u started the update? May just have to wait for a bit of charge b4 it will turn back on...not sure if this will help but hopefully it will. Best luck to ya.
no...battery was nearly fully charged...and battery has been out for about 20 minutes...im thinking its bricked...anyone got any ideas? also...what do can i say when i take it into sprint..
I Think its bricked :/
But about your phone if it is bricked, i would say i lost it and keep the battery and sd and pay insurance to get a new one.
its hundred bucks for a new one...i was installing a htc radio,,,thinking its covered under manufactured warranty,,,also got 2 batteries for 8 dollars so not a great deal lol
My friend who is a manager at a store said that now that its legal to root a phone its still covered under warranty so is try takin it in

Yea its legal and your friend is probably a cool dude and don't care and will warranty them but unfortunately they don't have to honor the warranty if user changes / modifies software that was not ota or provided by HTC or Sprint. Use at your own risk.
I would'nt tell them you tried messing with the software. I would just say you woke up this morning tried to turn on the phone and it would not turn on. Tell them you turn your phone off every night when you go to bed, keep it simple.
It's void if they know about it. That's what they said on g4 atots when they did the special on jailbreaking and rooting. But will they know if it don't turn on? I assume they (htc) would just flash new software on it and give it out as refurbished.
alright thanks guys...but it was the htc software lol...new radio update...idk,,maybe that dont count since someone had to extract it.,..but thanks guys
Its a long shot but wait a couple days for the update to come out and tell them you tried to update and it did that......

Yes, it is legal via an exemption to the DMCA to root/jailbreak a phone - HOWEVER, if you break the phone by doing this, it isn't going to be covered under the warranty. The warranty still only covers normal use, and hacking, however legal, isn't normal use. Sorry dude. Magnusson Moss Warranty Act, look it up. Warranty doesn't cover when you break the thing yourself, only when a manufacturer / latent defect causes a failure.
It really depends on which sprint store you go to. I always go to a 3rd party Sprint repair shop near my house. I had a rooted hero to 2.1; when the evo came out i bought one and took the hero to the sprint shop to update to the official 2.1 version to give to my dad. When they tried updating it, the phone would never fully boot so they gave us a brand new one. yes they new it was rooted and had a custom rom, i had talked to them that day and before about it and they didnt care.
anyway, best of luck in this situation. If you dont have a cool sprints guys than i would take sprink's advice and say you woke up and it wouldnt turn on. if there is no damage, what can they do?
^ Good luck with that...legal or not, he screwed the phone up. Not a warranty issue...
Just seen this thread they might be able to help you out.

Same thing happened to me...
I tried to restart my Evo today and the same thing happened. I took it to the Sprint store and the tech there said that the power button actually failed, and that they had to ship me a replacement. From what he was saying this has happened on a few of the Evos.
Ouch brick. Bring it back play stupid. I bet the issue was using rom manager to flash a radio. A radio isnt a ROM its the MOST IMPORTANT piece of code the phone has and a sure fire way to brick it if you mess it up. I wouldnt use rom manager other than to boot into recovery
I was running my 3G Slide on Cyanogen 6 Stable (latest) with no problem. Then one day I say artifacts on my screen, I thought there was no problem, as I was playing a game at the time. I assumed it was just a bug in the game. So I kept on using the phone with no problems. About a week later however, the first signs of my current problem surfaced. The face keys died and no longer responded, unless I slided the phone open. The problem just got continually worse from there. It progressed to the point where I could not utilize the touch screen when the phone was open and now it is at a state where the touch screen completely doesn't work either open or closed and the face keys do not work either.
Just to differentiate, the face keys are the home, menu, back, and the google search thing. But the side buttons are all intact.
I've tried rebooting the phone with no success. A memory wipe, resetting Cyanogenmod, failed to solve the problem. I've since then emailed HTC to see if I still have coverage, since I bought it second hand, and reverted back to the original rom, from a thread in the Android Development forum, so I would be covered by warranty.
I at first assumed it was the digitizer, which might still be part of the problem; I still haven't completely ruled it out. But the digitizer alone wouldn't explain the dead keys, would it?
Help? Any suggestions if HTC decides not to repair it or charges a ridiculous price?
I also get the "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" message now once I boot up.
It's most likely the flex cable that connects your screen, front buttons, microphone, etc. (everything on the front panel). That would explain the gradual going-out of the touch screen and the artifacts on the LCD. Send it in to t-mobile, the phone has only been out since last June, less than a year, so it's under warranty. Call for a replacement.
Thanks for the advice, MusicMan. I visited a T-Mobile store today, and its no doubt its under warranty. But here's the problem. I didn't buy the phone from a corporate store or an authorized store, I bought it second hand, and T-Mobile, after a visit and numerous calls of begging and pleading and employing moral responsibility, they said they can't replace the phone because the phone is not registered under my name... blah blah blah. Apparently warranty is through person and not transferrable.
What do I do?
Also, a side note.
In the off chance that I have to deal with HTC for my problem, what is the radio of the stock T-Mobile rom?
Just to make sure my phone is "stock" as ever before I send it in.
As of now I have 7.00.35.04S
I assume that the phone is still rooted even though it is back on the stock rom, will that be a problem if I send it back to HTC?

You could try to get a hold of the guy who sold you it. If he calls T-mobile customer care and puts you as a "authorized user" of the phone you can get it replaced.
However, make sure you are on the latest OTA. Check out this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946435 and scroll down to my post for another non over the air update method.
-Current stock ( ota ) radio is 7.09.35.10
- Make sure you don't have superuser. If you replaced your rom with the stock build ( like in the method linked ) you should be fine.
He's currently in Taiwan "for a few months", so I doubt he can help me from there.
Also, I'm pretty sure you have to have proof of purchase when you send it to HTC... So that might be a roadblock as well. Your last option would be to order a new flex cable online and install it yourself. Or you could pay HTC the repair fee to fix it.

Thats why the "owner" of the account calls customer care. They already have the record that he purchased the phone. So if he is put as an "authorized user" of the phone he can send it in. Of course the original owner would have to give t-mobile the shipping address and in sense do it. However it only takes maybe 20 mins? Once his refurbished comes in the mail it comes with either a plastic back or box pre-labeled to send the defective product back in.
Along the lines of have the guy call tmobile.
Hi..my cousin is in the states and is having problems with the tmobile slide..I would like to add him as an authorized user so that he may send it in for a refurbished phone...
tmobile will ask for the # and two other pieces of information...password and something else.
imo worth a shot before you have to spend money!

So right now you are unrooted and installed the 1.27.531.1 stock correct? In order to update to the latest OTA make sure you download the zip provided. Both are the same file, but for some reason the one on the google docs worked for me.
-copy the update.zip file to your sd card.
-Turn off your phone then power into fast boot( volume down and the power button)
-go into recovery once fastboot gives you the option.
-Once in recovery just hit "apply update.zip"
-Wait for it to finish installing then reboot.
Edit:
Original Thread for update.zip

Follow the rules in the original thread. Much more detail than I provided!
Enjoy man.
I checked all the settings and anything else that I could think of with a normal never rooted mytouch. All looks perfect...also sent my mytouch back to tmobile doing this. Have yet to hear from them.
