Hi,
First, sorry if this topic is not at the right place. This is not only for Desire but also for all HTC phones in my opinion.
My question is, what is exactly a NAND Backup ?
- Do it backup the complete rom installed on the phone ?
Or maybe I am complety wrong...
Thanks for answers.

Exactly, it clones the ROM image and backs it up to the SD card. You can perform a Nandroid Backup/Restore while the phone is connected via recovery mode.

Ok, so I'm a noob at all this Rooting, Rom'ing, flashing and whatnot. Infact I'm a noob at Smartphones in general. The G2 is my first..
When I did the Clockwork flash of baconbits it asked me to backup, so I did. Is that the same thing as a nandroid backup that everyone talks about with such importance?
Or will I need to get a backup from somewhere? Would someone elses backup even work with my phone?
Yes.
......
lol. Sorry, my title and post are a bit jumbled. What were you saying yes to?
Do I even need a "nandroid" backup? Or is the clockwork backup I made the same thing?

I believe from what you said in the first post, yes it performed a nandroid backup, then flashed the kernal. If you want check in your clockwork folder on sd card and see if theres the backup you made earlier. I recommend putting that onto your pc in a safe place....just in case sd card gets error or somethtnig.

Yes, a backup in cm recovery is same as nandroid backup only it does it through the cm recovery as opposed to stock recovery.
There are stock roms with root and some other features provided in the development forum that you can flash using rom manager.
Thanks guys. Now that I've figured that out with your help, I have been having a blast trying all these roms. Next up is Villains stuff.
Hello all,
by a warranty case I will have to exchange my htc desire bravo with another one. Actually I have installed the SuperNova Gingerbread ROM with internal memory placed on my sdcard.
Is there a way or how would you do this to make an image or backup to easily restore it on the new phone. The new one will not be rooted, so I will have to do it first, right?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help
Best regards
gigi

Yes you have to root. How to backup is answered by faq no 1 on supernova site.
Hi Droidzone,
on the supernova site the faq #1 is about sdcard partition. But I have found a section about nandroid. Is this the right way?
And lufc, excuse please my posting fault.
Best regards
gigi
Yes, nandroid from recovery.
Remember to root your phone once it gets back from the warranty, and remember to flash the same recovery as you have had before the giveaway. Just in case.
And - do not give your minisd card with the phone to warranty.

Hi remmyhi,
thank you very much. Actually I have on my phone the ROM Manager 5.0.0.6 installed. It shows me the ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 working. But if I boot into the recovery system for making a backup it shows me the version 2.5.0.7.
I am a little bit confused about this. Should there be also the 5.0.2.0 version if I want to backup/restore?
Best regards
gigi
Rom Manager won'rt recognize its own recovery, better to screw it and go through recovery manually. To be sure, you could flash the newer CWM recovery or ext4 via fastboot (it's really easy, i'd say even easier than rom manager), then use the backup feature and make sure everything is backed up (i had a broken CWM recovery that would not backup my sd-ext).
I still wonder that you installed a Rom without backing up your stock system.
Oh, and it is advisable to restore to stock before sending the phone away.
Hello muellersmattes,
thank you very much. I think, I have enough informations now. Thanks guys for your advice.

Hello all,
I'm sorry if my question was answered in this forum, but I wasn't able to find the answer to be 100% sure.
I used Rezo609's all in one utility, so I unlocked the bootloader, rooted the phone and when doing this, the software made a backup of my phone (it's saved on the SD card).
I use Android 2.3.5. and now I'd like to try Android 4.0 on my WFS.
My question is, when it will not work for me (or I don't like it), can I restore the phone from that backup? I mean my 2.3.5, my apps, contacts, emails etc?
Thank you so much, and again I'm sorry if it was posted somewhere here

I don't know what backup it made coz i haven't used that utility ever.
But here's another way of being sure.
I suppose you have clockwork Recovery installed already, If you don't, download rom manager from market and do.
Boot into recovery.
>go to backup and restore and backup.
>It will take some time.
> Now in sd card, you'll see a folder named clockwork, save that folder somewhere in your pc cozz that is a lifesaver for you.
> Install whatever rom u want now.
> If you want to restore, just go to clockwork and restore.
Hope i helped.
Best way....... Download rom manager from the play store... Then select "Backup current rom" If backs up your rom.....
Thank you both guys!
The clockwork recovery is part of the utility so I have the backup done, that was the backup I was writing in my first post.
So right now I have to find the best 4.0 ROM

Guys please don't harangue me over the fact there is probably another topic out there. This works PC hasn't got Java enabled and search won't work...
OT: I've had my phone booted and rooted running AOKP IceColdJelly by the right honourable Lord Clockan but as dipstick here forgot to run SMS Backup before doing so I lost a whole tonne of messages I wanted to keep. However I had nandroided my stock rom and as I'm presuming those messages will have been saved as part of that process.
I decided while I am waiting for the next build of IceColdJelly to be released to try restore that nandroid and backup the messages ready to restore to IceColdJelly when I come to flash it again.
On restoring the nandroid this is where my problem lies I rebooted my handset but the phone failed to display the HTC One bootanimation and stuck at a blank screen after the HTC logo where it vibrates.
Have I missed a step? Is the problem due to a conflict somewhere?
I'd appreciate your help and thanks in advance to anyone offering anything constructive.

Did you flash the boot.img for your nandroid backup?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
What did you have before the AOKP? if another rom, did you flash the boot.img that you have also in the nandroid?
Try to use the ARHD Super Wipe before restoring, but flash first the kernel thats used in ur nandroid.

Frakking doh, so used to the old DHD I forgot the boot.img requires flashing, how do I extract that from the nandroid of the stock rom?

No idea, but if you go to the directory of your backup, what files do you have there? Isnt one of them a boot.img? Btw I am not sure you can flash this . Never did.
But the stock kernel is here arround the forum. Search for user called Vladnosferatu and his threads.

You can mount your sdcard in CWM. There should be a folder called CWM or recovery or something similar on the sdcard. Copy the backup to your computer and extract the boot.img from there.

Hi,
excuse, my english is very rusty.
I've IceColdSandwich v 8.6-AOKP on my DHD.
Unfortunately my Camera app doesn't work.
Because of that, I would update to v.8.8, but I've configured my home screen very good for me.
Therefore I want to keep this configuration. So, I don't wanna lose this configuration of the home screens.
Is it possible to jump to v8.8 without full wipe?
If so, what steps do I have to?
Thank you.
Hans

Yes, you can dirty flash the 8.8 ICECOLD. ("dirty" means without wipe.. so just flash.if you have a custom rom my guess is you know how to)
But I'd recommend to do a backup for any case. And than try to flash the 8.8. (again, I guess you know how, if not , ask.)
You can also perform a system backup with titanium\mybackup , but its not advices.
But again perform a NAND backup . If something will go wrong you'll have a working and configured version .
good luck
Hi tripleR,
what means NAND?
I have already made a backup with Titanium. I have backuped "save all new user- and systemfiles & new Versions".
Is this ok?
THX
A NAND backup is performed from recovery and takes a single backup of the whole system. If something goes wrong, you can restore the NAND backup and you will be back to exactly the same point you were at when you took the backup. If you try 8.8 and it doesn't work, just restore the backup and you'll be back on 8.6.
A backup with titanium backs up apps and settings but runs from the ROM itself. If you are performing system changes then titanium may not be able to restore the necessary settings, so you may be stuck with the problem.
It means, that you should do a backup in your recovery. (You should always have one, because if something goes wrong, you can always restore this backup from your recovery).
I have used Titanium backup for a complete restore aswell.
But you should make sure, that your ROM is ok with this. ( I think there are ROMS, that don´t recommend this).
If you just switch the Version of the Rom, Titanium backup should work.
I did a complete wipe and restored with TB and it worked.
ok, but how I can take a NAND backup?
Can I take this in ClockworkMOD Recovery menu -> backup and restore -> backup?
If so, what is path to the backup? sdcard root?
Backups the NAND backup all apps and settings (e.g. home screen)
Thank you very much.

It might be, but NAND is for sure. and it brings your rom to the point as you left it.
1. go to recovery and do a backup.
2. dirty flash the 8.8 .
if everything all right your ok.
if anything going wrong at any point and you dont like it go to 3
3. flash the new rom with full wipe.
4.restore settings with titanium
everything ok ? huuura .somthing wrong ? go to 5
5.restore the back up.
Exactly.
It is saved in your Clockworkmod file on the SD.
You can simply choose it from your recovery and install it again. (You should also consider switching to 4ext recovery, but i think clockwork does the job as well)

yes, ClockworkMOD Recovery menu -> backup and restore -> backup?
If so, what is path to the backup? sdcard root? sdcard\clockworkmod\backup
but you dont need it. when you'll go to restore it from the same place in recovery, in any point it will show it as it is.
And it back up all the rom exactly as it is. 1 to 1.
ok, I understand.
I take it now, but I am very anxious...
In german "I shut up the ass bake"
:fingers-crossed:
I will report.
Thank you very much
ohh yes, 4ext tool, that was what I had forgotten.
I think 4ext is better then ClockworkMod Recovery. Should I rather install and use this tool?
I am interested in the path of the backup, because I want to delete the backup afterwards?
It's not a good Iidea?

I like 4ext more than CWM. You can install it by getting the app either from the 4ext site or buying it from the Play Store; the app lets you flash the recovery.
The backup is saved in the sdcard in the clockworkmod folder. I recommend, though, that you keep the backup. If you ever have problems with your current setup, you can restore it. I always back up before flashing anything.
I'm done and it all works wonderfully.
Also the camera works very well now.
I love dirty flashing!!!
The Version is IceColdSandwich v 8.8-AOKP now.
Thank you very much, all.

Congratulations! Be aware that, as a courtesy to the developer, don't report bugs in a dirty flash; if you have bugs in a dirty flash, do a clean flash and see if the bug is there, and only if it is should you report the bug.
ok, I'll do that but at the moment everything is working.
