I´m wondering why M$ integrated this lock device feature(the one on today screen) when it is literaly useless. I mean this feature should ask for a password when unlocking the device, at least if I put one under "settings". This lock device feature could be handy if I leave my device on a table in a restaurant or so, so nobody could read my private mails etc. but the as it is right now it makes no sense to me. Am I the only one who is missing that password feature on the today "lock device" plugin?
Ermmmm do you have tens of billions of dollars ?
Your partner read something she wasn't supposed to in the restaurant...?
You are aware that there is a difference between 'Device Lock' and 'Lock'?
The one under Today which is device lock / key lock just is a precaution to not accidently control the device in any way.
The lock reacts after a given time and then you need the password.
For me: I mow my grass with my hermes in my pocket and bluetooth stereo headset on my head with the music blasting away. I use the locked button to prevent me accidently mashing buttons while listening to music. Otherwise I do not use it. But I guess you do have a point that if settings say 'use a password' then it probably should use it. Just thought I'd chime in on at least why I use the feature.

For the OP, you can set your phone to lock and require a passcode after a certain amount of time... these 2 locks are different things...

I'm only using the power button, gut lets say you get a sms during pocket time and not noticing? What then? Yes, the device is waking up and all the accidental possibilities are present... if not locking it.
I reeeeally want to know how to prevent the device from waking up under these circumstances, but I believe thats an other issue than this thread.

No, i use the power button also, and actually i also use battery status with the option to lock screen on device wake up... however when using WMP or HTC audio manager if you hit the power button to sleep it also kills the audio (i do believe there are other media players that wont shut off during sleep)

ROFLMAO,
Now this is a humorous thread and if I must choose between you or Bill, then you must be the idiot.
If you don't want someone to read your mail or private items after leaving the phone (at the restaurant, on a table next to your date while you use the restroom), then set lock timeout for 1 minutes of inactivity. Better yet, keep the phone in your pocket and set the Device lock.
Device lock is very good for mowing the lawn, listening to music, jogging, and other things.

Yes but that´s also disgusting, ´cause everytime my device suspends itself after the x minutes when I am at home and don´t need any security, this locking would get on my nerves. Oh well, seems that I am really the only one who finds this device lock today item useless...Maybe it´s because I don´t really need to protect my device from accidentally touching the screen because mine is covered by a transparent case. So I guess I´ve gotta live with this device unlocking madness... Thought others would already have found some reg hack or so to make that device lock useeable in the meaning I described in the beginning of this thread.

Did you ever think that WM6 is intented to be use on many other mobile devices, including SmartPhones without hidden keyboards that needed to be locked without pushing the Power buton like we do for our Hermes devices?
If the "lock device" function is making you crazy, and you don't use it, why don't you remove it from the today screen?

No I´m only used to PDA phones since my old XDA and I´ve never had a device without a power off button. I´ll ask another question. Is there any app wich lets me simply password protect my device with a press of a button? The funny (not really funny)thing is I can´t even put the WM6 password protect command on a soft button.
Ok, it seems there is a position sensor in TyTN (correct me if I'm wrong). When my phone is in its case on my belt and it's turned on (usually by a call), it's rotated (as if the keyboard's open). It takes too long time for it to rotate, and I can't answer the call until it rotates back to normal. So my question is, can this sensor be turned off, or is there other thing, that makes the screen to rotate and eventually how can I solve the problem? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I'm useing Schap's ROM, but the problem existed in the official rom, and the Black rom, and the official WM5 rom
no position sensor that I know of and I have never had this problem :s

Yeah, there is a position sensor on the hermes. It's a magnetic sensor that detects whether the keyboard is open or not.
The problem is most likely your case. I've heard of issues like yours. The magnetic snap on the case fools the hermes into thinking the keyboard is open.
I don't believe that there is a fix to bypass the sensor, as it is hardware. But I may be wrong. If not then you might need to look at another case that uses velcro or something.

ah now that would make sense, i never use that stupid case that comes with it, they are really ugly! so that would explain why i never noticed it.
My wife came up with a great solution when I had this poblem (standard case causing phone to start in landscape) - turn the phone the other way round! Now I have the screen facing my belt and the phone is ALWAYS in portrait when I get it out.
Sounds silly, but try it - it works!
Yep, that's a sollution, but there is one other detail. There's no other position I can plug the earphones .

Solution..... Bluetooth Headphones.
It appears to be a magnetic switch...
Your case must have a strong magnet on it, I can't get it to effect the switch if the phone is completely closed. Only if I have it partially open.

I have exactly the same problem. Also, my phone is NEVER put into standby before closing the keyboard.
I'm going to try storing it with the screen facing towards my belt.
I simply use Brando case and HTC BT S-100 headset. and never have a problem with phone starting in landscape.

I've come to notice that no one REALLY knew how to fully disable screen rotation on WM devices.
Some offered 3rd party apps to get the job done, some only knew how to disable automatic rotation, but when the device went into standby and woke up again - the screen rotated back. So that didnt really work.
So if you're as desperate as i was about screen rotation,
this is what you need to do:
1. Get dotfred's free taskmanager HERE, and run it.
2. Go to "Devices" tab, and look for "MIS1:" device (oem_misc.dll)
3. Long-Tap on it, and tap on "Stop"
4. Long-Tap on it again, and now choose "Set Manual"
5. Go to "Notifications" tab, and look for "Notifications\NamedEvents\VCPowerWakeupEvent"
6. Tap on it to make it selected
7. Disable it
(In dotfred's taskmanager, there should be a button for disabling it, but for some reason some devices couldn't see the button icons, although the buttons are still clickable. Under the notifications list there is an empty light-blue line - the buttons are there, eventough you can't see them.
The disable buttons is somewhere i the middle of that light-blue line, just tap the center until a message box popps up and asks if you'd like to disable this notification - Tap on yes.)All those steps are a one time deal - they stick even after an SR.
This has been tested on htc universal and works great.
The screen will keep its orientation even if you flip your screen, take out your built in keyboard, or turn the device off and back on.
The only time your screen will revert back to the original orientation is when you soft reset your device.
Hope this helps

I can, and I used a Tesla-meter to measure them:
in-between the two magnets of the case and the lid, there are around 150 mT (Millitesla) which is pretty much!
for comparison:
a usual horseshoe magnet would have 1 mT, the magnetic field of the earth has about 0,05 mT!
Hello everyone
After trying all the phone lock software out there I still can’t find what I’m looking for, what I’m looking for is so simple an icon in the start menu to lock the phone then r2u or t2u & unlock when phone rings and that’s it. I don’t like the idea of having to press the power button to wake up the screen to be able to unlock the device I’m also not interested in all of the other features that most of the phone lock’s have. Can someone help?
I have tried sensor lock I did like it a lot but I was unable to configure it and you could tell it was running in the background as the screen would jump. Plus throw in my case and a few beers and I know I’m going to drop it.
Many Thanks Jez
A list of phone lock programs you will need to search for them as some of the links aren’t applicable any more and I did need not save the ones that are working
Throttle lock
S2u2
Sunscape
Touchlock pro
Phone buddy
M lock
Organic lock
Pocket shield
Sensor lock
Lock me tight
Stylus lock
try Auto Lock (CSDEVCTRL), you could slide to the right on the screen to unlock the phone or use the windows default unlock.
Hello gbjack
Just tried that app and it’s just to much setting up and I don't think it’s going to do what I want it to do. Just hope someone is willing to write a program going by all the forums I have searched it will be popular
Cheer’s for the reply and suggestion
I tried many lock apps as well, but in the end the standard windows lock is what im using. No hassle, and it simply works as intended. I just press the "hangup" virtual button, and after the second vibration feedback i can be sure that the phone is locked. Doesn't get any simpler than that.
Then you have to try " WWE-Chobit Company SmartLock 1.7B". Only four or five options but it cannot lock your hardware key during call.

This is good specialy the turn on bluetooth on call feature, but when we have an income call, the app takes ages to know what to do and the phone only begins to ring 5 secs after. Lockmelite it's the best one around but has a problem with alarms going to background after unlock. The "almost perfect" one is s2u but huge memory consuption makes background app's close or restart.
Hello jpl69
Tried this app found it to involved to setup and still does not do what I am looking for which is tap the screen to wake up so I than can unlock the phone using a s2u app. I find it bizarre that there are many apps to unlock the phone but you still have to push the power button to operate them. Surely it can’t take much program writing to add this feature. Jez
We have to push an hardware ley to wake up our devices from a low battery consuption state (suspend mode) and unfortunaly only have the power and volume hard keys so if you want to wake up your device with a tap on screen you'll only have a couple of hours with a full charge.
Now it makes sense why the screen sleeps if the battery only last for a couple of hours. Just a shame that the power button is so fiddly to operate. Jez
Yes, and it makes no sense having an device lock app (except on incoming calls). I only use it because of my 2 year old son that found the little tiny power on key , and made a couple of phone calls.
P.S. with a registry tweak you can enable the volume keys to wake up your device.
May be this could be your appropriate application:

That is brilliant and can be found here.
Simple and effective (needs a reboot after install, and is found under settings.
Just to be helpful... here's the brilliantly useful Reg tweak to allow wake-up from the volume keys.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd
- set key: defaultkeylock from 1 to 0
- softreset
LockMeLite is definitely my favourite (especially with the above tweak), but as mentioned already, the alarm snooze / disappearing to background problem is a constant frustration.
Hello flid
Sorry for the delay everyone just got back from Canada so been busy catching up and sleeping. So how do I go about tweaking the reg key? I know how navigate to the reg key on a computer but not on my mobile
I changed my left soft key to lock the phone on the Home start screen as it was doing nothing useful except jumping to a phone operators website:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKPath = windows\Endkey.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKText = Lock (or whether text you want).
You just need a windows mobile registry editor. There are several free ones. My current Dutty ROM has one inbuilt, but from what I can gather the popular options are Total Commander (free!), Schap's Registry (free), PHM RegEdit (which is built in to Dutty's ROM) and Resco Registry Editor (not free - but definitely the most finger friendly). There may well be others.
When I have my phone locked, and the screen turned off, swiping a magnet down the right side of the front of the phone will turn the screen back on, and unlock the phone.
I think this has something to do with the sensor that triggers when the stylus is removed...anyone have any idea how to turn this feature [the device unlocking when the stylus is removed] off in 6.5? I remember seeing the option somewhere in 6.1, but can't find it in 6.5 (I looked for a good 20 minutes today).
This is an issue because the holster from my phone has a leather strap that lies across the top of the phone and attaches magnetically to keep it from falling out...
Thanks
Can confirm I am having the same issue with my magnetic holster unlocking the phone.

This did nothing.
Actually, the above edit turns off the keyboard slide which resolved MY problem. The stylus doesn't appear to cause me the same problem of unlocking. I guess it depends where the case magnets are located.
If you turn on the keyboard slide sound and use the magnet, it triggers the keyboard and you can clearly hear the sound.

I can't find any registry settings for the stylus apart from the "Open Notes in Call" one.
I'm sure there was a setting somewhere you could change to stop the stylus unlocking the phone. Perhaps it's the notes setting.

If it's actually the keyboard sensor that's unlocking the phone, then I don't care about disabling the stylus unlock functionality.
I just want to disable the keyboard unlock functionality.
All I was saying is that adding the value provided did not disable this functionality -- after adding it the keyboard still unlocks the phone, and therefore, so does the magnet in my holster.
Don't know what to say. I'm running the stock ATT 6.5 and I can toggle the "SlideWakeup" between " 0 " and " 1 " and the keyboard will unlock or not according to the setting. The stylus removal still unlocks if the above setting is at " 0 " .

Actually, it works perfectly for me, on my stock AT&T Tilt 2.
I have a top-loading vertical holster case with a belt clip, where the top flap is held secure by a magnet. I always had this problem of the phone waking up when I slid it into the case. jonto's fix given above solved the problem perfectly (Thanks, jonto!!!).

Why don't you try this.
A) SEARCHING BEFORE ASKING
B) Doing this the right way, because it works
or
C) Get a case without a magnet
Have had my new Sprint TP2 for a couple of weeks now, really enjoying it. First "smartphone" for me, figured it's time to join the 21st century.
Biggest issue so far:
When putting the phone into a holster, it comes out of sleep mode (display comes on) - no, I'm not hitting the Power key when I do this. Something here doesnt seem right, but that's what happens...
At that point, on occasion the Dial key may get hit while in the holster (I can understand this, it's a hardware key) - which if the key kets tagged 2x while out of sleep-mode does a pocket dial to the last number called/received.
My original fix to this was to enable the password lock. While a PITA to unlock the phone every time, I'd rather do that than pocket dial. HOWEVER, when running an output only app (such as Google Maps or Navigation) the phone keeps going into lock mode and asking for the password - NOT a good situation while driving down the road...
So my question(s) are:
1. Is there a way to keep the phone from exiting sleep mode while entering a holster?
2. Is there a way to keep the phone from locking up and requesting a password during apps such as Navigation?
(I found this thread while searching, but still un-answered... [Thread 614599; vBulletin wont let me post the URL...)
Thanks in advance for any help!
Jim
This is a completely stock phone, no mods (so far...) other than a couple of applications added (Google Mobile apps, WSOP Poker).
The first question I have for you. Is the case/holder specific to HTC TP2 or is it generic and originally designed for a blackberry?
I ask this because no matter what blackberry case i've ever tried, they always bring my phone out of sleep mode. The reason is the magnet in the case that is designed to put the BB INTO sleep mode.
The case is specific for the Sprint TP2, from ThinkTouchPro2.com. It's the [HTC Touch Pro 2 Naztech Kaskade Vertical Pouch Case - Black], since I still cant post a url... well, I guess I can fake one:
thinktouchpro2.com/htc-touch-pro-2-cases-7462.html
It's definitely the magnet that's doing the trick. The phone comes out of sleep mode just as it starts to go into the case, so it's not a function of hitting any buttons.
Somehow I got into the habit of hitting the power button to put it to sleep before going into the holster, SOOOO thinking maybe it's a 2-way deal I tried leaving the phone awake and putting into the holster - no dice, still awake.
Test 2 was to put the phone into the holster, and then force to sleep. Removing it wakes the phone up, that I'm cool with. But I'm still left with the issue of pocket dialing whenever I use the holster...
Maybe the best solution would be to go to a non-magnetic holster?
Jim
that would be it.
The device uses a magnetic switch to tell it when you slide the keyboard out. So by pulling the device in/out of the case the magnet is triggering the switch leading the device to think you've slid out the keyboard and it should wake up.
I think Advanced config has an option to disable the device from waking up when the keyboard is slid open.
Actually I believe it's the magnet on the stylus, it doesn't have anything to do with the sliding function.
There was a solution for this somewhere around the forums.
If I'm not mistaken, removing the "wake up when keyboard is out" setting, solved the problem with cases that have a magnet.

my laptop uses a magnet to secure the screen when i close it and if i slide my tilt2 across where the magnet is with the stylus in or out, the device wakes up and goes into landscape for a second then switches back to portrait.
dont think the stylus magnet would cause it because the stylus is still in the device and the magnet is securing it in. I think it has another sensor in the stylus slot and just uses the magnet to suck it in because on older devices (wizard) the stylus would go loose, but then again those devices didn't wake when the stylus was removed.

BINGO, think we're onto it as I've seen this behavior as well.
I've poked around looking for this, but the closest I've found is the "Keyboard Sliding Sound", but there's not an option to kill the wake-up function. Can someone point me in the direction of the "Advanced Config"?
Jim
So why not use pocket sheild? It has a 15 sec timer on it, so if you put it in your holster and it "wakes up", after 15 seconds it will turn the phone off again if there isn't any action done on it. Use it to only turn on with the light sensor when you pull it out of you pocket or a finger swipe from top to bottom. Also, you can tell it what apps that it cannot go into sleep mode on.

That's actually on my list of apps to take a look at, but for a different reason. I'd still like it to not come on at all, as the pocket dial I made was well w/in the 15s timeout for PS.
Ok, so the search originally didnt work for me because I didnt realize it was the magnet causing the wake-up. Knowing that now, I found the registry change I need to make in another thread.
Now for the total noob quesion:
How do I get into the registry to edit it?
I gather Total Commander is the popular tool of choice, and now have that installed. But my searches keep coming up with various tweaks to MAKE in the registry, but not how to GET TO it. I was unable to find this in the TC docs, either...
Thanks for the patient assistance to a WM noob.
(tho I'm a .Net programmer, so not a complete ijit - unless you want to hold being a .Net programmer against me, which I really couldnt blame you for - but it beats the heck outta COBOL...)

PHM Registry Editor. I would have posted a link but I don't have enough posts to do so!! Just google it and it should come up I got mine off of freewareppc com
Pocket Sheild will not let anything happen what so ever. Unless you physically make it happen, it will do nothing but sit there at the unlock screen waiting for input. If nothing happens, the screen will go back into sleep mode. Check the website out, that should help you make your decision easier. You can change the timer to be 10 seconds as well but I think that is about as close as you can get beside turning the phone off!!

I think this is what you need:
1) this is a magnet holster issue -- FIX: from wmexpert touch-pro-2-tip-fix-cases-magnets-issue-registry-fix *attached Cab
2) To stop certain apps from locking automatically I use S2U2 *zip attached (Slide to Unlock) there is a list of applications that you can set not to lock when active. I use this for GPS navigation for example. showthread.php?t=527523
You can set a password with this or not as you wish. You'll like it.
Keep in mind that the one sideeffect of the magnet fix is that the phone will not automatically unlock on opening the keyboard. You have to hit the power button. Personally I don't have any problem with this.

well he is making it physically happen, but unintentionally. The magnet in the holster is waking the device up by making it think the keyboard has slid open, then the call button is being pressed against the case causing the device to place a call.
as i stated earlier, its best to disable wake-up when keyboard is slid out which is provided in a cab in the post right before this one.
Thanks aj and fwp, I think I've got it now.
Backed into a copy of the PHM RegEdit, and the slide fix worked great! No worries about the kb not waking the phone up, never used that function anyway.
Re the S2U2 app and preventing lock during some apps, does PocketShield also do this - or would I need to run both to keep GPS apps alive?
Thanks again!

I get that, and if the cab fixes the issue, thats great. What I was saying was that pocket sheild will not unlock at all, be it the keyboard slid open or the stylus came out, unless you program it to do so. I just tried to make it unlock by sliding the keyboard open and the only thing it did was go into landscape, still locked tho.

ahh ok, not familiar with that app and thought you were saying that it would wait for an input (i.e. buttons pressed) for a set time, and if nothing happened then it would lock the device after a set time period.

PS does do that (preventing lock during some apps) You just have to tell it when you are in the settings.
Thanks for all the great info! Have the phone "safe" now, but will be looking into PocketShield as the next app.
