When I have my phone locked, and the screen turned off, swiping a magnet down the right side of the front of the phone will turn the screen back on, and unlock the phone.
I think this has something to do with the sensor that triggers when the stylus is removed...anyone have any idea how to turn this feature [the device unlocking when the stylus is removed] off in 6.5? I remember seeing the option somewhere in 6.1, but can't find it in 6.5 (I looked for a good 20 minutes today).
This is an issue because the holster from my phone has a leather strap that lies across the top of the phone and attaches magnetically to keep it from falling out...
Thanks
Can confirm I am having the same issue with my magnetic holster unlocking the phone.

This did nothing.
Actually, the above edit turns off the keyboard slide which resolved MY problem. The stylus doesn't appear to cause me the same problem of unlocking. I guess it depends where the case magnets are located.
If you turn on the keyboard slide sound and use the magnet, it triggers the keyboard and you can clearly hear the sound.
I posted a thread here a while back http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=574043

Again, putting this registry key in did nothing. The phone is still unlocked by the magnet, and is still unlocked by sliding the keyboard open.

I can't find any registry settings for the stylus apart from the "Open Notes in Call" one.
I'm sure there was a setting somewhere you could change to stop the stylus unlocking the phone. Perhaps it's the notes setting.

If it's actually the keyboard sensor that's unlocking the phone, then I don't care about disabling the stylus unlock functionality.
I just want to disable the keyboard unlock functionality.
All I was saying is that adding the value provided did not disable this functionality -- after adding it the keyboard still unlocks the phone, and therefore, so does the magnet in my holster.
Don't know what to say. I'm running the stock ATT 6.5 and I can toggle the "SlideWakeup" between " 0 " and " 1 " and the keyboard will unlock or not according to the setting. The stylus removal still unlocks if the above setting is at " 0 " .

Actually, it works perfectly for me, on my stock AT&T Tilt 2.
I have a top-loading vertical holster case with a belt clip, where the top flap is held secure by a magnet. I always had this problem of the phone waking up when I slid it into the case. jonto's fix given above solved the problem perfectly (Thanks, jonto!!!).
No offense, Spike15, but my guess is that your registry edit is not sticking. I made mine in Total Commander, and then soft reset.

Why don't you try this.
A) SEARCHING BEFORE ASKING
B) Doing this the right way, because it works
or
C) Get a case without a magnet

Ok, it seems there is a position sensor in TyTN (correct me if I'm wrong). When my phone is in its case on my belt and it's turned on (usually by a call), it's rotated (as if the keyboard's open). It takes too long time for it to rotate, and I can't answer the call until it rotates back to normal. So my question is, can this sensor be turned off, or is there other thing, that makes the screen to rotate and eventually how can I solve the problem? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I'm useing Schap's ROM, but the problem existed in the official rom, and the Black rom, and the official WM5 rom
no position sensor that I know of and I have never had this problem :s

Yeah, there is a position sensor on the hermes. It's a magnetic sensor that detects whether the keyboard is open or not.
The problem is most likely your case. I've heard of issues like yours. The magnetic snap on the case fools the hermes into thinking the keyboard is open.
I don't believe that there is a fix to bypass the sensor, as it is hardware. But I may be wrong. If not then you might need to look at another case that uses velcro or something.

ah now that would make sense, i never use that stupid case that comes with it, they are really ugly! so that would explain why i never noticed it.
My wife came up with a great solution when I had this poblem (standard case causing phone to start in landscape) - turn the phone the other way round! Now I have the screen facing my belt and the phone is ALWAYS in portrait when I get it out.
Sounds silly, but try it - it works!
Yep, that's a sollution, but there is one other detail. There's no other position I can plug the earphones .

Solution..... Bluetooth Headphones.
It appears to be a magnetic switch...
Your case must have a strong magnet on it, I can't get it to effect the switch if the phone is completely closed. Only if I have it partially open.

I have exactly the same problem. Also, my phone is NEVER put into standby before closing the keyboard.
I'm going to try storing it with the screen facing towards my belt.
I simply use Brando case and HTC BT S-100 headset. and never have a problem with phone starting in landscape.

I've come to notice that no one REALLY knew how to fully disable screen rotation on WM devices.
Some offered 3rd party apps to get the job done, some only knew how to disable automatic rotation, but when the device went into standby and woke up again - the screen rotated back. So that didnt really work.
So if you're as desperate as i was about screen rotation,
this is what you need to do:
1. Get dotfred's free taskmanager HERE, and run it.
2. Go to "Devices" tab, and look for "MIS1:" device (oem_misc.dll)
3. Long-Tap on it, and tap on "Stop"
4. Long-Tap on it again, and now choose "Set Manual"
5. Go to "Notifications" tab, and look for "Notifications\NamedEvents\VCPowerWakeupEvent"
6. Tap on it to make it selected
7. Disable it
(In dotfred's taskmanager, there should be a button for disabling it, but for some reason some devices couldn't see the button icons, although the buttons are still clickable. Under the notifications list there is an empty light-blue line - the buttons are there, eventough you can't see them.
The disable buttons is somewhere i the middle of that light-blue line, just tap the center until a message box popps up and asks if you'd like to disable this notification - Tap on yes.)All those steps are a one time deal - they stick even after an SR.
This has been tested on htc universal and works great.
The screen will keep its orientation even if you flip your screen, take out your built in keyboard, or turn the device off and back on.
The only time your screen will revert back to the original orientation is when you soft reset your device.
Hope this helps

I can, and I used a Tesla-meter to measure them:
in-between the two magnets of the case and the lid, there are around 150 mT (Millitesla) which is pretty much!
for comparison:
a usual horseshoe magnet would have 1 mT, the magnetic field of the earth has about 0,05 mT!
It seems the magnet on our old kaiser cases make the tilt 2 screen turn on. We figured it out with a little help from the att sales guy cause the wife was getting pissed that every time she put the phone in the case, the screen turned on.
Cant seem to find any info about it, why it does this. Forget the sales people at the store. They dont know jack
I am also lookng for something that tells what the indicator lights should do. We get a solid left light for charge and a flashing left light for unread anything.
Though there should be a blue flash when blue tooth is enabled,
Judging by the kaiser,
Effects of Magnet on TP2
Yes I have Telstra model TP2 and i can confirm this behaviour as well with a case with magnetic clasp. Also I find that passing it by the magnet will also make TP2 go from portrait mode to landscape .I t can be very annoying because even locking TP2 makes no difference
It due to the keyboard sensor. The phone thinks you are sliding out the keyboard.
There is a patch to disable that "feature" (First thing i do when i install a new ROM)
Is it that or the stylus sensor?

reg edit to disable the ''Slide Wake Up''
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\DeviceMap\Keybd] Create new dword "SlideWakeup" with value of 0 and soft reset.
To revert, delete the key or set it's data to 1
Hmmm, if thats the only way to stop the magnet problem, im not sure i am willing to do that. I like the slide to wake up thing.
well, the other way is a non-magnetic case
I just tried the above reg edit on my TP2 and it did indeed work as described on my unit. Thanks a lot eknutson
Just as an FYI, many if not all HTC devices with slide-out keyboards are like that. My Apache did it, my Kaiser did it, my TP2 does it.
It appears that the OEM case has a magnetic clasp (I just ordered an AT&T Tilt 2, which does not come with a case). Does the magnetic clasp on the OEM case cause the phone to turn on?
I would think a magnet is a magnet. OEM with magnets should see the same result.
I turned on my keyboard sound and ran the magnet over the tiny keypad and i heard the keyboard slide sound while the screen turned on.
I cannot reproduce it in my European pro 2. Am I doing something wrong, or is the case magnet too weak?
(I have lost the original case, and I have an EASECASE with 2 magnets now...)

Thanks for this reg edit....worked perfectly for me. I am a bit bummed I lost the wake to slide feature but the magnetic clasp is more important to me then a velcro case thus I'm willing to lose the wake up feature....thanks.
I tried this on my Tilt 2 and my magnetic case ans could not reproduce the issue. Maybe my magnets are too weak. Seem it may not be an issue for everyone.
True, the magnet issue may not be an issue for everyone - but it also applies if you open the keyboard just a tad while it's locked.
This was problematic for me when the phone was set to wake when the keyboard opens - it'll bypass the lock application (at least it did for me w/ my setup). Adding the reg value prevented me from accidentally unlocking the device when I'm trying to grab it out of the case - which while fumbling around you may tap the wrong part of the screen and can ignor an incoming call
Well, i have thought about this a little more. I am thinking, WHEN the heck do i grab my phone (while its sleeping) and pop the keyboard out to wake it up .... NEVER
I never slide the keyboard out unless there is a reason. ONLY when i am using the programs or get a notifacation. When i get a notifacation, the screen turns on, so ...
I guess i will be turning off the slide to wake after all, since i come to realize it is a useless feature to me anyways.
Hello, I wasn't able to find anything but does anyone know of any settings or a program that will lock the clock on the home screen. The phone unlocks in my holster or pocket and i always hit the clock and keep changing the time.
Random thought/stupid question. I assume that you are using the built in "lock" and not just turning the screen off correct? I know others have had problems with a magnetic latching case activating the "you pulled your stylus out sensor." It shouldn't be a problem with you keeping your phone in your pocket, but if it's just in the case when this happens try getting a case that uses something other than magnets as the catch.
Personally I love this little gem:
Smartlock
After you install it, you can find it under Settings > System. You can set it to lock the screen when you push the power button, when it fades out by itself, even when someone calls you. Very handy.
Also you can install this one here to make the lockscreen look alot better:
Dusk 6.5 lockscreen
I use both and I'm very happy with it

the only way to change the behavior of this is to mod the lua file that controls it!! usually not fun or easy to do

Create an unlock password and it will not unlock in your pocket or holster. Problem is that without a password, the phone will unlock when it thinks the keyboard is slid out. It can think this if 1) keyboard is slid out 2) phone come in close proximity with a magnet (some holsters have magnetic covers)
Have had my new Sprint TP2 for a couple of weeks now, really enjoying it. First "smartphone" for me, figured it's time to join the 21st century.
Biggest issue so far:
When putting the phone into a holster, it comes out of sleep mode (display comes on) - no, I'm not hitting the Power key when I do this. Something here doesnt seem right, but that's what happens...
At that point, on occasion the Dial key may get hit while in the holster (I can understand this, it's a hardware key) - which if the key kets tagged 2x while out of sleep-mode does a pocket dial to the last number called/received.
My original fix to this was to enable the password lock. While a PITA to unlock the phone every time, I'd rather do that than pocket dial. HOWEVER, when running an output only app (such as Google Maps or Navigation) the phone keeps going into lock mode and asking for the password - NOT a good situation while driving down the road...
So my question(s) are:
1. Is there a way to keep the phone from exiting sleep mode while entering a holster?
2. Is there a way to keep the phone from locking up and requesting a password during apps such as Navigation?
(I found this thread while searching, but still un-answered... [Thread 614599; vBulletin wont let me post the URL...)
Thanks in advance for any help!
Jim
This is a completely stock phone, no mods (so far...) other than a couple of applications added (Google Mobile apps, WSOP Poker).
The first question I have for you. Is the case/holder specific to HTC TP2 or is it generic and originally designed for a blackberry?
I ask this because no matter what blackberry case i've ever tried, they always bring my phone out of sleep mode. The reason is the magnet in the case that is designed to put the BB INTO sleep mode.
The case is specific for the Sprint TP2, from ThinkTouchPro2.com. It's the [HTC Touch Pro 2 Naztech Kaskade Vertical Pouch Case - Black], since I still cant post a url... well, I guess I can fake one:
thinktouchpro2.com/htc-touch-pro-2-cases-7462.html
It's definitely the magnet that's doing the trick. The phone comes out of sleep mode just as it starts to go into the case, so it's not a function of hitting any buttons.
Somehow I got into the habit of hitting the power button to put it to sleep before going into the holster, SOOOO thinking maybe it's a 2-way deal I tried leaving the phone awake and putting into the holster - no dice, still awake.
Test 2 was to put the phone into the holster, and then force to sleep. Removing it wakes the phone up, that I'm cool with. But I'm still left with the issue of pocket dialing whenever I use the holster...
Maybe the best solution would be to go to a non-magnetic holster?
Jim
that would be it.
The device uses a magnetic switch to tell it when you slide the keyboard out. So by pulling the device in/out of the case the magnet is triggering the switch leading the device to think you've slid out the keyboard and it should wake up.
I think Advanced config has an option to disable the device from waking up when the keyboard is slid open.
Actually I believe it's the magnet on the stylus, it doesn't have anything to do with the sliding function.
There was a solution for this somewhere around the forums.
If I'm not mistaken, removing the "wake up when keyboard is out" setting, solved the problem with cases that have a magnet.

my laptop uses a magnet to secure the screen when i close it and if i slide my tilt2 across where the magnet is with the stylus in or out, the device wakes up and goes into landscape for a second then switches back to portrait.
dont think the stylus magnet would cause it because the stylus is still in the device and the magnet is securing it in. I think it has another sensor in the stylus slot and just uses the magnet to suck it in because on older devices (wizard) the stylus would go loose, but then again those devices didn't wake when the stylus was removed.

BINGO, think we're onto it as I've seen this behavior as well.
I've poked around looking for this, but the closest I've found is the "Keyboard Sliding Sound", but there's not an option to kill the wake-up function. Can someone point me in the direction of the "Advanced Config"?

So why not use pocket sheild? It has a 15 sec timer on it, so if you put it in your holster and it "wakes up", after 15 seconds it will turn the phone off again if there isn't any action done on it. Use it to only turn on with the light sensor when you pull it out of you pocket or a finger swipe from top to bottom. Also, you can tell it what apps that it cannot go into sleep mode on.

That's actually on my list of apps to take a look at, but for a different reason. I'd still like it to not come on at all, as the pocket dial I made was well w/in the 15s timeout for PS.
Ok, so the search originally didnt work for me because I didnt realize it was the magnet causing the wake-up. Knowing that now, I found the registry change I need to make in another thread.
Now for the total noob quesion:
How do I get into the registry to edit it?
I gather Total Commander is the popular tool of choice, and now have that installed. But my searches keep coming up with various tweaks to MAKE in the registry, but not how to GET TO it. I was unable to find this in the TC docs, either...
Thanks for the patient assistance to a WM noob.

Pocket Sheild will not let anything happen what so ever. Unless you physically make it happen, it will do nothing but sit there at the unlock screen waiting for input. If nothing happens, the screen will go back into sleep mode. Check the website out, that should help you make your decision easier. You can change the timer to be 10 seconds as well but I think that is about as close as you can get beside turning the phone off!!

I think this is what you need:
1) this is a magnet holster issue -- FIX: from wmexpert touch-pro-2-tip-fix-cases-magnets-issue-registry-fix *attached Cab
2) To stop certain apps from locking automatically I use S2U2 *zip attached (Slide to Unlock) there is a list of applications that you can set not to lock when active. I use this for GPS navigation for example. showthread.php?t=527523
You can set a password with this or not as you wish. You'll like it.
Keep in mind that the one sideeffect of the magnet fix is that the phone will not automatically unlock on opening the keyboard. You have to hit the power button. Personally I don't have any problem with this.

well he is making it physically happen, but unintentionally. The magnet in the holster is waking the device up by making it think the keyboard has slid open, then the call button is being pressed against the case causing the device to place a call.
as i stated earlier, its best to disable wake-up when keyboard is slid out which is provided in a cab in the post right before this one.
Thanks aj and fwp, I think I've got it now.
Backed into a copy of the PHM RegEdit, and the slide fix worked great! No worries about the kb not waking the phone up, never used that function anyway.

I get that, and if the cab fixes the issue, thats great. What I was saying was that pocket sheild will not unlock at all, be it the keyboard slid open or the stylus came out, unless you program it to do so. I have to hold the phone .. very close to my ear .. if i move it away just a little. the screen turns on .. and my ear pushes the on screen buttons.
Very Annoying!
I found a program that works really well ..

The proxy sensor conflict's with this program.
however .. if i cover the Proxy with my finger
BEFORE I make a call and don't uncover it .. your Program takes over and WORKS GREAT
I need to find a way to TURN OFF / DISABLE the Proxy Sensor!
ANY IDEAS ??? Reg Hack ?? Or What DLL Controls The Proxy Sensor ?
I was under the impression that it was the gyro, not a proximity sensor. If I make a call then put the phone in a vertical position the screen turns off, if it lay the phone down in my hand, the screen turns on. I have noticed that sometimes I need to exagerate my movements for it to work properly. I've also accidentally hung up on people by holding the phone with just my shoulder to my ear and bending over to grab something off the floor. *click* whoops!
Looks like possibly \HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCSensor\GSensor\ might be a place to start, I don't see a specific key that is obviously for turning off the screen during calls though.
ETA: HOWEVER - there is a registry key for a proximitysensor - \HKLM\Sotfware\HTC\Proximity\ProximitySensorOn & ProximityDetectStatus Both are defaulted to 0 (which I believe is TRUE) on mine. Perhaps try changing the SensorOn to 1 and reboot and test.

WarlockW, I was reading over the thread about that program, and it mentions "disabling use of the sensor [by] using the config app"...so it sounds like there's some setting in it that will tell it to just ignore the sensor. I haven't tried that app, but it sounds like that might get around the conflict you mentioned
Thanks for the responses guys ..
Unfortunately epoh ...
registry key for a proximitysensor - \HKLM\Sotfware\HTC\Proximity\ProximitySensorOn & ProximityDetectStatus Both are defaulted to 0
Does Nothing to turn it off ..
And sirphunkee ...
"disabling use of the sensor [by] using the config app"...
There is no setting the program that seems to help
I Even Talked with the maker of the program - You can see his response
if you goto the end of the thread :/
So I am Left with a puzzle .. How to turn off the dam sensor ..
I am Guessing a DLL prob runs that sensor ..
I would be willing to donate $$$ to someone that figures out this " puzzle "
( Thats How Much It Bugs Me lol )

I'm getting the feeling your sensor isn't triggering properly (i.e. it thinks you're farther than you are). Check out THIS video demo of the proximity sensor...if you recreate the conditions there in the video, does your screen go off at the same distance it does for the guy's finger in the vid?
I found some references on other boards to that same app you tried, and they mentioned the same thing about it disabling the sensor...but none of them mentioned how exactly, they just said it solved the problem for them
Best way to tottaly shut off the sensor is get a case that covers it up. I have one of those, although my sensor works fine (it activates on 1 inch from my face and honestly i dont hold the phone further away).
Actually I had the exact opposite problem. It did not activate at all and I would be talking on the phone and getting all mad about it, untill I read in the forums that the case might be covering it up.
After that I tested it my self and figured that was the problem. Anyway go look for a nice case that covers the Proximity sensor. Its located on the top left side of the phone right above the HTC logo.
I got my case from the T-Mobile store for $30 and it works great for me. Every time I drop my phone on the ground I thank "Bodyglove" for making this case lol

I'm trying to not have to cover-up my proximity sensor. My problem is different than everyone else's, though. My proximity sensor turns off the phone even when I'm not in a phone-call. Therefore, when reaching for the power button, or the Start-Menu Icon (or just while holding the phone) the screen will turn-off...
