Hello everyone
After trying all the phone lock software out there I still can’t find what I’m looking for, what I’m looking for is so simple an icon in the start menu to lock the phone then r2u or t2u & unlock when phone rings and that’s it. I don’t like the idea of having to press the power button to wake up the screen to be able to unlock the device I’m also not interested in all of the other features that most of the phone lock’s have. Can someone help?
I have tried sensor lock I did like it a lot but I was unable to configure it and you could tell it was running in the background as the screen would jump. Plus throw in my case and a few beers and I know I’m going to drop it.
Many Thanks Jez
A list of phone lock programs you will need to search for them as some of the links aren’t applicable any more and I did need not save the ones that are working
Throttle lock
S2u2
Sunscape
Touchlock pro
Phone buddy
M lock
Organic lock
Pocket shield
Sensor lock
Lock me tight
Stylus lock
try Auto Lock (CSDEVCTRL), you could slide to the right on the screen to unlock the phone or use the windows default unlock.
Hello gbjack
Just tried that app and it’s just to much setting up and I don't think it’s going to do what I want it to do. Just hope someone is willing to write a program going by all the forums I have searched it will be popular
Cheer’s for the reply and suggestion
I tried many lock apps as well, but in the end the standard windows lock is what im using. No hassle, and it simply works as intended. I just press the "hangup" virtual button, and after the second vibration feedback i can be sure that the phone is locked. Doesn't get any simpler than that.
Then you have to try " WWE-Chobit Company SmartLock 1.7B". Only four or five options but it cannot lock your hardware key during call.

This is good specialy the turn on bluetooth on call feature, but when we have an income call, the app takes ages to know what to do and the phone only begins to ring 5 secs after. Lockmelite it's the best one around but has a problem with alarms going to background after unlock. The "almost perfect" one is s2u but huge memory consuption makes background app's close or restart.
Hello jpl69
Tried this app found it to involved to setup and still does not do what I am looking for which is tap the screen to wake up so I than can unlock the phone using a s2u app. I find it bizarre that there are many apps to unlock the phone but you still have to push the power button to operate them. Surely it can’t take much program writing to add this feature. Jez
We have to push an hardware ley to wake up our devices from a low battery consuption state (suspend mode) and unfortunaly only have the power and volume hard keys so if you want to wake up your device with a tap on screen you'll only have a couple of hours with a full charge.
Now it makes sense why the screen sleeps if the battery only last for a couple of hours. Just a shame that the power button is so fiddly to operate. Jez
Yes, and it makes no sense having an device lock app (except on incoming calls). I only use it because of my 2 year old son that found the little tiny power on key , and made a couple of phone calls.
P.S. with a registry tweak you can enable the volume keys to wake up your device.
May be this could be your appropriate application:

That is brilliant and can be found here.
Simple and effective (needs a reboot after install, and is found under settings.
Just to be helpful... here's the brilliantly useful Reg tweak to allow wake-up from the volume keys.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd
- set key: defaultkeylock from 1 to 0
- softreset
LockMeLite is definitely my favourite (especially with the above tweak), but as mentioned already, the alarm snooze / disappearing to background problem is a constant frustration.
Hello flid
Sorry for the delay everyone just got back from Canada so been busy catching up and sleeping. So how do I go about tweaking the reg key? I know how navigate to the reg key on a computer but not on my mobile
I changed my left soft key to lock the phone on the Home start screen as it was doing nothing useful except jumping to a phone operators website:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKPath = windows\Endkey.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKText = Lock (or whether text you want).
You just need a windows mobile registry editor. There are several free ones. My current Dutty ROM has one inbuilt, but from what I can gather the popular options are Total Commander (free!), Schap's Registry (free), PHM RegEdit (which is built in to Dutty's ROM) and Resco Registry Editor (not free - but definitely the most finger friendly). There may well be others.

I am not the only one to complain about incoming calls and locking utilities but I haven't found a clear answer yet. That's why I start this new post. Let me clarify that I'm talking abouts UIs other than the TF3D.
I've tried several UIs (WAD2, Spb MS3) in conjunction to several locking applications but there is always something wrong :
1) The built-in locking utility seems to be the most reliable but the tweak which enables that (section 4.1 in HD tweak) also suffers from the blacklight problem. That is, if the backlight turns low (e.g. while playing music) it never turns high again unless the power button is pressed.
2) S2U2 (1.62) takes a lot of time to wake up on an incoming call either when using WAD2 or Spb MS3. When it does, the WM Caller ID does not display correctly. In some cases, the phone wakes up but it takes 4-5 more seconds to start ringing. Furthermore, the hardkeys are not locked. As a result, when you try to take the HD out of your pocket it is highly unlike that you'll press no button accidentally ... A similar situation holds for the S2U2 built-in Caller ID screen.
3) S2U2 does not cooperate well with WAD2. When the phone wakes up by pressing the power button it keeps flipping between WAD2 and S2U2 for 2 seconds. This time is enough for allowing all WAD2 softbuttons to be pressed accidentally ...
3) Throttle Lock looks very nice but it does not support any exceptions. When the alarm clock rings, you have first to unlock the device and then press the "Dismiss" button
I'm desparate. Any help would be wellcome
I am in the same shoe as you. I have touch HD and I tried many locks but all have some conflicts with windows or other software in one way or the other.
Temporarily, I use AE Buttons and set all keys to double clicking...
Have you tried Pocket Shield? I don't know, if it is compatible to WAD2, but for me it is the best locking app that I tried.
Hi
Pocket Shield is really nice but :
* It DOES flicker a lot on incoming call if you want to keep the HTC dialer (software author recommends disabling this dialer, but I won't... it's so much better than WM6.1's built-in dialer).
* It does not provide features such as showing next appointments or upcoming alarms. It's nice to be able to wake the device, have a quick glance at information about your next appointment and then leave the device automatically go back to sleep (like in S2U2 for example). Maybe there's a plugin for such a thing in Pocket Shield ?
Just my two cents (I'm still looking for a better solution )
Cheers,

Showing appointments etc is not a prerequisite for me as I have all this info on my home screen (Spb MS3). On the other hand, flickering is a major problem as it may take a lot of time to stabilize. In the meanwhile, the call is lost !
It seems that you use a Diamond, not an HD. Could an HD owner describe the time delay on his device using PocketShield ?
Furthermore, can somebody verify that PocketShield can handle exceptions (GPS software, music players, alarm clocks etc) ?
Touch Diamond and Touch HD have the exact same hardware, CPU speed, RAM etc...

At the moment Pocketshield satisfies me. It has exception function, you can add some programs to unlock when they start. For example G-alarm...
Although I haven't tried Pocketshield yet, I think that I've got the solution to my problems. It is called LockMeLite (LmL) and it's free. It does not power off the device (as S2U2 does). It only locks it when the device wakes up.
1) Flickering takes no more than half a second and only the left softkey of the HTC Caller ID appears (not the full Caller screen).
2) The screen reacts almost instantly. I checked it many times by calling myself.
3) The ring tone takes 2-3 second to sound but I think I can live with that.
4) No appointments, tasks etc info. Only battery level, time and missed calls. No problem for me as I use Spb MS3 and all this info is available at the home page
5) Spb alarm works almost fine. It almost overrides LmL and can be dismissed or snoozed without need to unlock the device.
6) Very small app (658 kB cab file including four background images).
7) No battery drain.
8) Pocketmusic works fine as it does allow the device to sleep but it only turns the backlight low.
9) I haven't tried it with any GPS software yet.
Please try it and post your comments. Just discovered this small piece of art and for me it works better than any other locking app.
LockMeLite is good but it's not compatible with Resco keyboard and FingerKeyboard2 on the Touch HD. These keyboard gets lifted off screen or does not redraw well.
It does not work with Resco Contact Manger 1.11 as well on the Touch HD.

I do use SPB MS3 too, but to look at the home screen, you must unlock the device, which I don't want to do...
Hi, I have been searching the web for quite a while looking for this and haven't been able to find what I am looking for, so hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction.
Does anyone know of a lightweight Slide to unlock program compatable with the TP2? I find that S2U2 uses to many resources for my liking, and battery level suffers. Ideally what I want is a simple replacement for the built in lock function which uses a slide rather than pressing in two places. I want the phone to remain locked when there is a notification or incomming call, and I want to be able to see the currently displayed app or home screen displayed under the slider.
Thanks for any ideas,
Tom

here you go
I used this when S2U2 v2.02 was being buggy on me. it allows you to slide anywhere on the screen to unlock, either left to right or right to left. no up/down. you can also unlock it the usual way, by pressing 2 places at once.
you have the option of having it lock in call as well.
hope it's what you're looking for
I also thought that S2U2 used too much memory for what I needed (to lock the device). The suggested alternative, CSDEVCTRL, was exactly what I needed. Uses default lock. It only uses 3 kb of memory.
Thanks for the reply, I have had a look at CSDEVCTRL and while it does seem promising I found it was too easy to unlock the phone, S2U2 requires a deliberate action on the slider bar where CSDEVCTRL seems to unlock if I just take the phone out of my pocket. It would be greatly improved if it had a slider bar graphic like S2U2, I guess I'll keep on looking.
Thanks again,
Tom
I wonder if there coukd be a light version of s2u2 made to work with phones such as the TP2 that doesn't need the in call features. this would potentially bring the memory uasage down?
I am using Rotastrain's Slide to Unlock utility but it doesn't work as nicely as s2u2. The Notifications isn't locked, neither is the Long Press End button. Also, doesn't auto load on power switch.
Thinks I'll try s2u2, worked well on my TyTnII.
Hi,
My phone keeps on living its own life in my pocket and really enjoy calling random people on my behalf. This is getting more and more irritating, and I would really love to be able to have it locked as soon as I suspend it.
I am using the official HTC ROM with WM6.5 WWE (and want to stick to this one). I also want to use the default WM6.5 lock screen which is perfect for my needs.
I allready tried a lot of solution presented on XDA, but none was perfect so far.
-HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDeviceLockEnable to 1. This solution seems to be the best, as it is built-in and light; but it doesn't work at all; the phone does not lock itself
-I tried DeviceLock from XDA, which didn't work either
-I also tried Autolock, which work quite good as long as I don't resume my phone with the sliding keyboard; after that I have to unlock it manually to get it working again...
-I also tried to add a PIN code, but this is really inconvinient for my use...
If you were able to successfuly use one of those solutions (or maybe even a new one), please let me know; you'll save my phone's life!
Thank you!
I haven't tried it, but HERE is another called LockDevice
i have always used s2u2. didnt use any of the fancy stuff, just as a screen lock. good thing is that u can set it to auto-off ur phone after n seconds. i set to 5s. so i dun even have to press the power button to off the phone. just map s2u2 to a shortcut button or softkey and it will off my phone 5s after activation. when u received and sms or miss a call, good thing is ur phone remains at the s2u2 screen, and it will turn off ur phone after 5s also.
PocketShield works great but you gotta buy it after a trial.

Woaw this was exactly what I needed!
Very light and doing what it is supposed to do; thank you very much!
EDIT: Now I am looking for pretty wallpaper (which also work in landscape) for my lock screen, any advice?
LockDevice doesn't work for me for some reason.. It does if I use the power button, but if I use a software "Power Off" shortcut it does not.. And I use the shortcut 98% of the time to turn off the phone via hitting the End button twice or tapping my right softkey at the Today screen. If I use it, the phone doesn't lock at all.
I continue to use S2U2, which works just dandy, but it's pretty resource intensive. 3.2m of ram, although I personally have no problems with battery life etc using it.
I use CSDevCtrl its got loads of options and if you want to simply lock the device when you switch the screen off or after a period of time its easy to do so.
edit: I just realised that this is now called auto lock and may be the one you referred to in the OP. If it is just to let you know I don't have to unlock again after keyboard slide out so it may be worth double checking the settings.
yep reg settings have no effect. I use SmartLock (easy find if you search for on XDA) with WM6.5 lock and Suspend Lock enabled. The WM6.5 lock screen is awsome.
My favorite has become TouchLockPro. Can be set to no lock is there is light on the sensor, or external power, and using the G-Sensor.
Hello,
I have TP2 with TMobile stock Rom. I'm using S2U2 for locking device when inactive.
The problem is that if the device is locked (due to inactivity) and when I unlock it, then it always goes to the home screen. I have disabled "go to homescreen" inside S2U2 settings, but still it goes to home screen.
Also if the screen is displaying certain applications like folderview, blackjack game and its locked->unlocked then these tasks run in background and are not visible using "Quick Menu" from icon area of the titlebar. I have to run the taskmanager and kill these tasks.
Any way to fix it. Other tasks like resco photo manager, htc album, coreplayer etc are OK. They do show up in quick menu.
Thanks
i tried S2U2 (and uninstalled it) and I'm not sure what purpose it serves on the TP2. The power saving locks the screen and it doesn't turn back on unless you press power again. Isn't that what S2U2 accomplishes? My Diamond screen would turn on at random, so S2U2 would be necessary with that phone, but the TP2 (in my stock Sprint ROM) has that functionality built in. Are people using this program by habit?
I think mainly because it has "Slide to Unlock" like the iPhone, .. people are fond by the iPhone, ....
in the TP2 (with Windows Mobile 6.1) there wasnt such thing (slide to unlock) (i think), So it would make sense to use that program, However, in Windows Mobile 6.5 that feature is there (Slide to Unlock)
Also, if you ever run the phone under a magnet (perhaps sliding it through a magnetic-clasped holster), the phone wakes instantly (if the reg tweak/fix was not made). That was a reason why I used S2U2 on my phone before (I now use TouchLockPro).
See_u_then, which version of S2U2 do you have? I was using v2.12 before I abandoned the app, and I don't remember encountering that problem with that particular version.
I'm using version 2.20

Ummm, okay... Would you like to try a different screen locker? I don't know, but S2U2 does have a lot of issues, and I abandoned it because it wasn't very stable and reliable.
If you would like to try another screen locker, TouchLockPro has been great for the past 1 1/2 weeks I've used it! The zoombar lock is great, and you can unlock the phone at the same screen you left it. Of course, you don't get the whole iPhone unlock look, but at least the zoombar gets put to good use (plus, if someone "borrows" your phone, they wouldn't know how to unlock it)!
PM me if you need help with TLP because, imo, the instructions at the developer's site are a little confusing.
BTW, happy new year to everyone!
The reason for using S2U2 is because with WM6.1 (and maybe 6.5, idk) when you recieve a text, the phone unlocks itself..unless you have it "Windows Locked" (actually going in and pressing "Lock"), so there is no very simple easy way to just lock and unlock the phone..and have it stay locked during texts and calls. S2U2 not only emulates the amazing iPhone lock UI and appearance, it also makes it much easier and faster than using the default lock, and solves the problem of not having a way to actually KEEP it locked when recieving texts and calls and other alerts. I personally LOVE S2U2.
Now, to fix your problem, DISABLE TouchFLO3D. TouchFLO3D is the sole cause of every problem on the TP2..at least for me. VERY glitchy and unstable and unuseful. It interferes with almost every app and customization I installed. Once I disabled it, all my problems were solved (including the exact same one you're having here.) It's beautiful and flashy.....but it has several issues including its interference with S2U2. So I've since kept it disabled completely. The standard WM interface may not be as finger friendly or as flashy, but it's far more reliable and useful...at least for now.

except that S2U2 automatically locks the phone, it does NOT by default otherwise.. You'd have to select the Lock option. Also S2U2 has the PIN input which is nicer than the WM one, and looks nice too.
There is a program (LockDevice?) which sort-of accomplishes the auto-lock that S2U2 does but I VERY often find when I turn the phone back on after turning it off and leaving it a few minutes that it is NOT locked, which leads to random programs being launched, phone calls made, etc.. S2U2 always locks.
Don't like S2U2? Don't use it.

see_u_then, i am having the same issue with s2u2 on my tp2 with sprint stock rom. i live s2u2 in that i have it set to wake up, but not unlock, whenever any type of notification arrives (minder. email, text, etc.) i've found that it saves me lots of time insteade of having to go to each app every time a event comes in. i've managed to tweak everything but the "wake up to the home screen" issue, so if you find a fix let me know. this issue is especially a pain when a call locks the screen because im then at the home screen and if i need to do key input for the call i have to punch a bunch of buttons to get back to the call screen,

Indeed, I turned off HTC Sense and now the phone no longer unlocks itself. Thanks for the tip!
I'm going mad here trying to find a screen Lock suitable to my needs. Can anyone please help? I want a simple screen lock, nothing fancy, no bells'n'whistles, but with the following two essential features.
1) Screen Lock is quickly unlocked with a simple screen swipe as soon as I either power on or slide open the device (ideally slide-opening would automatically unlock without requiring a swipe).
2) When running on external power the screen should unlock automatically and remain unlocked.
I've now auditioned PocketShield, Sunscape, TouchLockPro and S2U2 all of which may have one or other of those features, but none have both.
Can anyone please recommend anything else? Thank you.
1) In Pocketshield you can auto unlock by sliding QWERTY out if you create the following reg key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Pocketshield\ROTATE=1 (DWORD)
2) There is an option for it in settings.
Thanks for that. I've decided to give PocketShield another go and am auditioning it at the moment. Also I've changed my UI from Winterface to Spb Mobile Shell 3.5 because I wondered whether Winterface wasn't working well with PocketShield.
But here's my issue with PocketShield, perhaps somebody can please help?
If I open the slide keyboard I am able for a second or two to use the device as if it were not locked, before PocketShield "remembers" that is supposed to be on and then suddenly the device gets upset, slow, stuck, until I can find and unlock pocketShield. If I first power on and then slide open the keyboard, everything is fine, but everything stays in portrait, even though the keyboard is open. I can unlock PocketShield properly (though sideways) but then everything else is displayed in portrait, even though the keyboard is open.
I tried the reg tweak suggested, but found that that just caused even more confusion; portrait trying to change the landscape at the same time as the UI was trying to appear, at the same time as PocketShield was trying to put up its lock screen, basically chaos!
Any thoughts anyone, please?
My S2U2 v 2.42, has both of those options. Just go to Settings>Others
1. Action when connect to power>Unlock
2. Unlock when Keyboard is opened>On
Thanks. I've been trying out PocketShield all day and it seems that in its simplest terms there is a delay between switching on the unit and PocketShield realising it should be locking the screen, during which time it is possible to start an action which is then instantly stopped when PocketShield kicks in. Ridiculous.
I'll give S2U2 another shot now, cheers.
Smart unlock, its in the software worth installing section, does exactly what you want
I'm getting very frustrated here and beginning to think that my problem is nothing to do with one screen lock program or another, but with my unit.
Whichever screen lock I install, roughly 60% of the time the lock works as it should, but about 40% of the time there is a short period between powering on and the screen lock preventing me from doing anything. During this time it's possible to use the unit normally for a second or two until the screen lock kicks in, at which point often the unit gets confused, actions jam, and I often end up having to soft reset.
With all of the locks I've tried, if I open the keyboard and THEN power on, this also causes confusion.
Can anybody possibly shed any light on all this, please?
Could be that one of your installed applications is subscribed to the power on event and performs a very intensive processing each time device is turned on, delaying other subscriber apps such as lock screens. You might want to try uninstalling one by one to see if any culprit. Last resource is hard reset.
Thanks Pckshd. To be honest I've just had a rough day with the phone: it froze last night and on soft reset wouldn't boot up. This morning was the same story so eventually I was forced to do a hard reset. Then my most recent backup wouldn't restore, claiming there wasn't enough memory in the phone (how can that be? It was backed up from the phone!). Eventually I had to rebuild everything and right now haven't dared install any of the screen lock programs!
Is there not a registry entry anywhere that would show me which programs are taking priority over power on? My UI of choice, Winterface, as its own screen Lock, which is almost 100% reliable but regrettably continues to run went on mains power (I want one that unlocks on mains power, the desired feature that started all this off in the first place).
