Has anyone heard anything about TomTom on the HD? After watching the french review and her saying it doesnt work, is that because the tomtom 7 on the diamond is locked to the diamond?
I suppose we will never know until someone gets there hand on one?
And I wonder if it is because of applications made for VGA device is having problem on the 800x480 screen.
That may be the issue, however so far I have never seen the Diamond having any problems showing QVGA apps either it just blows them up. But because the aspect ratio is no longer 4:3 this may be an issue --- I can not image that HTC lets this be an issue though since hardly any application is made to suit WVGA.
There are 2 editions of TomTom (QVGA and VGA) as far as I know. The samsung omnia has also a different aspect ratio and the QVGA version works perfect. So I think the VGA version will work also on the Touch HD without any problems.
I have a Toshiba G900 (WVGA Display, 800x480) and I can confirm that TomTom works without problems on non standard screen resolutions.
This has also been confirmed by people with xperia's. It works without a problem!
Would TomTom 6 work on the HD?TomTom6 has worked fine on my HTC Universal, and its resolution is also different to the diamond. Or are there other problems to get TomTom6 work on the HD, like the internal GPS?
TomTom 6 works without any problems.
tomtom for htc diamond
i have tested both the tomtom 6 and tomtom 7 working on on the HTC diamond. It works a treat. Copilot 7 live also works well but the software is a lot older and doesnt pickup postcodes as well as tomtom.
Any more opinions as to screen compatibilty with popular software, like SB Pocket Plus and all the main apps?
Thanks!
Could anybody upload a screenshot picture of TomTom working on a WVGA Display (800x480)?

I also would be MOST interested in this as TomTom will be what I put this device to most (when I get it!).

what do you mean "locked to the diamond"? I used both TomTom 6 and 7 for months on my VX8600
TomTom 7.451 is ok (7.9 ko) but keyboard is very little...
Currently I'm running TomTom 7 on my Touch Pro with maps for version 6.75. Working perfectly. TT 7 was installed from a cab file available on this forum which was extracted from Diamond. Will this same version of TT7 will work on HD with same maps (version 6.75)? I ma not sure what is the extended version of this TomTom i.e., it is 7 but is it 7.45 or 7.9 .... don't know. Tried to find it but couldn't find any such detail. Cab file was taken from Diamond forum on this site.
I run TT 7.910.9185 with WCE map 725.1906 and agree that the street names are too small to read in traffic, behind the wheel. The onscreen keyboard however is just fine, there are two settings small and large.
I have TTN7 installed on my Touch HD, and have inserted the micro sd card from my Polaris that had TTN7 running with purchased v7 (go520) map from TomTom.
I have followed the start up process and when I get to the "select a map" screen, it shows the "Manchester" map I got as a freebie and the "UK & ROI" map I purchased & used on my Polaris. However, when I select either map, TTN7 just closes down. Any suggestions please.
The maps you purchased have been activated for your Polaris only, according to your device ID.
Sorry, but where I find the 7.910 Vga version that see my Htc HD in Tomtom Home?
Thankyou IceMatrix
P.S. Can admin delete the post in software thread
Hi all,
My HD arrives tomorrow, on contract, . Has anyone tried and got Memory Map to work on this? I cannot see it on the list working or otherwise
This is going to replace my Toshiba G900 and my Dell Axim 51v and Holox GPS.
I have a 5day cooling off period with the contract The Terms and conditions of Orange probably mean i will not be able to open the box so some advice would be great.
TIA
Paul
From my understanding the program should scale it up, i know it works fine with VGA screens and from the tech support guys that make it i get the feeling it not hard coded to work at any given screen res, in their words it will fill the screen of the device in question.
The nature of the program wouldnt make any difference to the map displayed, it would just show more of it.
So, its a slightly educated guess but id bet it will work fine, at least in portrate mode.
Memory Map
Hi all,
pleased to say memory map does work. Just set it nmea and com02 and away it went.
The icons are a little blurred but work, though the maps are perfect.

Memory Map works for me, but when I try to use the GPS, it says "License not valid for GPS Plot" even though it is a perfectly good licence. Anyone seen this message?
Is Memory Map the only Ordinance Survey mapping software available now for the Pocket PC?

Yes - Anquet 6.2.7 Beta...
I'm currently testing the Beta of Anquet 6.2.7 http://www.anquet.co.uk/pocket-anquet.htm, and it works great!
(I don't know the release date of the full version, but it's good.)
Dan./
It's not 100% compatible with the WVGA screen resolution. The bottom of the map can become corrupted if you scroll the map.
Also, if you hide the toolbar then this part of the screen becomes corrupted.
With regard to licensing, the latest version of MM has changed to an online licence mechanism which may be the problem with GPS.

Touch HD - Cannot open Memory Map map files over 100MB
I have been using Memory Map's Pocket Navigator on numerous HTC devices without a problem, but for some reason I cannot open map files on my HTC Touch HD that are over 100MB in size. This is strange because I just managed to open a map on my Advantage that is over 250MB. I am wondering if this has to do with the vastly improved memory capacity on the Touch HD? It so happens that when I check available program memory it shows 115MB or so. Does the Touch HD manage large files in memory differently than previous HTC devices? The maximum map size in Pocket Navigator is 400MB. Can anyone think of a way around this?
I will post a similar question on the general forum since I think it is a general configuration issue rather than a Memory Map issue.
I have exactly the same problem. I have had to cut London up into several bits!
Update from Memory Map Support on File Size Problem
Here is what Memory Map support have said about this:
"There is nothing we can do to fix this I am afraid. The error seems evident to varying degrees on all Windows Mobile 6.1 PDA devices."
My previous devices were WM6.0, so that is probably why I did not face this problem. I would be very interested to know if anyone has figured out a way to solve this.
Mine reads them Ok but only for a short while - maybe 2 or 3 openings then needs a soft reset.
This was not that easy on top of Great Knoutberry Hill in a blizzard last week!
Had to rely on 1000year old technology.
Same problem for me. Previously used on a Touch and an Atom Life without problem, but both WM 6.0 devices. On HD wound that a 120MB file would sometimes open but not reliably. Have now made all maps under 100MB and so far no probs. Bit iof a pain really, especially as it seems to work really well in other respects. Very pleased with how quick the onboard gps gets a fix, and seems accurate.
Other thing I've noticed is that the HD doesn't track the route when put into standby. Seems to restart and the re-establish gps when switched back on. Both the original Touch and the Atom Life continued tracking when in standby. Guess it might help battery life though. Need to do more testing
This mm map size issue is not new. It has intermittently affected my 2750 under WM5 (not WM2003SE incidentally), TyTN and TyTNII. Pre WM5 it worked fine with all map sizes ... accepting that pre WM5 ... even on the 2750 you could only have 2 x 4GB ... so you couldn't have a single map of the UK.
I ended up using the PC app to break the UK into circa 25 regions that made sense to me, keeping each region (largest map 173M) and it works fine most of the time. If you have a bunch of things running at the same time the odd map may fail to open ... the only option is to shut all other apps down or soft reset. It is not actually getting close to running out of program memory ... it is something about the way MM5 works with the WM5 and later persistant memory model and Memory Map have been aware of the problem since early WM5 days. It is frustrating but I don't see it going away anytime soon.
I regularly have memory map in the foreground with co pilot 6 in the background giving audio directions ... maps are far cooler than street nav ones. This works fine with map sizes below 180M.
On different devices this sensitivity may vary but will alway be there ... but you won't get a single map of the UK ... the 25 I mentioned take up 5.7GB .... working on any device until MM sort out the issue. I last spoke to the guys in Aldermaston about 18 months ago and they clearly knew about the issue but it didn't seem like a priority.
I'm happy to send the outline map for MM5 that will enable you to export the 25 sub 180M maps to the PDA.
Paul.

The only update to Memory-Map in a long time has been the addition of a tighter licensing system. Priorities are obviously elsewhere. I've lost faith with Memory-Map. They have had a vast amount of my money in the past and don't seem to be doing anything to help me get the software working properly on newer, better hardware.
The very useful forum from their co.uk website has also disappeared and shows no sign of reappearing. I really don't think they actually care about their customers anymore and when companies get like that it is time to look elsewhere. Sorry Memory-Map, you've lost a big fan and probably many others to follow. (/rant)
Zooming In
I too found that moving to the Touch HD required me to reduce the size of the maps still further from the ones I used on my TyTn II. I have now split each map into counties and each file is below 60M each. Each area now opens fine without any problem.
The only thing I have noticed, other than the zoom in/out buttons looking strange, is that I can't zoom in as much as I could on the TyTn II. The lowest zoom I can get is when the scale shows 0.5 miles at the bottom. Changing the screen to landscape with Gsen makes no difference. I know I could zoom in one more setting on the TyTn II. Has anyone had the same problem or know a solution?
I would be interested in this too. I am using Pocket A-Z on mine but although it fits full screen the maps look low quality. I would be interested if memory map fares better
It seems there is an optimum zoom level. Wierd, like a full size LCD. If you are on a zoom level above or below the optimum the quality is poor. (Or more poor than I'm used to!) This was the one app I really wanted the Touch HD for, and I'm thoroughly disappointed so far. Need some fixes for this pronto.
Paul,
I have the Full GB version of MM OS 1:50k. I would like to take you up on the offer of the outline map to create the 25 submaps. (I'm not too sure how this works. I'm assuming that the outline shows where to 'cut' and then download that displayed area to the HD?)
(I agree that this is a pain. On my older Pocket PC I could open maps of 250 megs without any problem. I bought a 16 gig card to get all the maps on to my HD and now find this problem.)

Anyone here use Logmein.com for remote desktop? I can't seem to get it to work.
if it's like on my hermes, logmein only works with PIE...Pocket Internet Explorer
No way to make it work with opera browser
The first time you log in with PIE it will suggest to install a .cab and next time you will log in you will be able to see your PC desktop...
hope this helps
Yeah, I installed the CAB but from PIE it refuses to launch the app when I log into the computer. Anyone else have this issue? I'm guessing it may require a patch or something.

did you perform a soft reset after cab install?
did you check your logmein psw?
sorry, no other ideas...
I'm also looking for a solution. I think something changed in Internet Explorer and doesn't load Logmein plugin.
try another free vnp solution...like net.viewer or REALVNC FREE
I have also problems with LMI
I am a long term LogMeIn user and I have also problems with my TP2. I can get to the point where I can choose Remote Control from the list but after that nothing happens. I have tried everything with cab installation - for nohing.
I had HTC Touch Pro earlier and it had some issues, too. I could establish a connection to remote desktop but I could not authenticate.
Before TP I had TyTN II and it worked fine. I have also have Qtek 2020, Qtek 9090, Qtek 9000 and HTC Advantage x7500 and they have also worked OK.
If someone can help us with this, it would be the greatest!!!
I'm bumping this up again to see if anyone has issues with Logmein.com . So far there is no fix. I think PIE isn't referencing the remote app so you can't even authenticate. Anyone have any ideas?
I had the same issue - and I was assuming it was because of the new IE - Logmein needs to fix its viewer to work with new IE
CHfish
OK, I found a fix. We need to download IE Toggle 1.1 and then set up IE to run as PIE. This will downgrade the browser and it will allow Logmein to work. Unfortunately I lost the link to the file so please google it.
OK, here's the fix link. Apparently people that had IE issues had the same problem.

Have you got LMI working now on the TP2? I am particularly interested in remote desktopping for support reasons.
If so... How effective is it?
I also have an enquiry open with LMI.

Urm, yeah - as above, credit to whtrbt7for providing solution. LMI on WM is free, so try it for yourself!
Credit should go to Codyppc on treocentral forums since he developed the IE Toggle app. It fully works after you've followed my directions.
I have a wierd problem with logme in. I installed IE Toggle and was running IE under PIE mode. Log Me in loaded fine and it even came with username/password screen on Win Server 2003 R2. When I try to enter my password through the QWERTY keyboard, nothing types in the password screen. Backspace works but it will not let me type anything in the password screen.
You seem to be having the keyboard issue that some users have. Here's the fix:
use this app called kfortouchpro:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IUL92CPS
or if you want to just use the hardware keyboard for everything:
Registry edit:

Ime File = \windows\compime.dll
Layout Text = COMP IME

Ime File = \windows\eT9ime.dll
Layout Text = eT9 IME
hello
I also have problems with my pro2 and logmein....
the ie toggle 1.1 does not work, i can install the app but i can´t find it to start??! program folder?
Logmein runs with ie6 and pro2, but it´s not so comfortable as using with pie.
(logmein with ie6: goto settings in ie6 and set the view to desktop, goto settings in logmein and change activex into java).
My old XDA using pie and logmein was perfect to control.(logmein for pda and using activex).

Great app
yep !!! the best so far
mhhh the beta 6 was better, when i load a picture, i must waiting to see the next picture, its verry buggy on my 6.5
When selecting files and using the action to email. Is there a way to specify which email account that is used to send? Everytime I try to email a file it opens the email program and attaches the files but it defaults to an email account that I do not want to use and I cannot figure out how to change it.
Any suggestions?
I loved the beta because it was fast on my previous phone, but on the HD2 it doesn't use multitouch
Since the Pinch&Zoom messages are known, it would be lovely to enable this on Photo Manager. Multitouch rotation would be nice as well

Let me guess, a phone with the Widcomm Bluetooth stack.. Like the Touch Pro 2.
As for me, this program worked great last night, but I went to load it today to look up where a conference room was at work and it went SLOW AS BALLS. I eventually just killed it and launched 6.33. Sigh..
Very good app! Only issue I have: I can't change the home background. I receive the message that the home background was changed but actually nothing has happened. I still see the old one. I can change the background with the WM standard picture viewer so I doubt it's an issue with my system settings. I'm using HTC Touch Diamond 2 with a custom 6.5.3 ROM.
Its a new version 7.02 out, multitouch support!!!!allready purchased for my hd2!! The best app so far
I'm not sure how many people are aware, but the HTC Leo (aka HD2) has a remote desktop client app that has more features than the old WM6 one that is floating around on XDA. Basically, it gives pinch-to-zoom and screen panning. Although the Touch Pro 2 can't pinch-zoom, we do have the handy-dandy zoom bar at the bottom. Since zooming still goes through SmartTouch (I think), there's a chance that the zoom bar might be interpreted correctly if this special version of Remote Desktop worked on the TP2. It might not, but it's worth a try.
So I downloaded the cab from here and installed it. However, when I ran Remote Desktop it just said it wasn't a valid Pocket PC application. :-(
Has anybody else dug into this? Does the LEO have a newer build of WinMo than TP2? (I'm using MightyROM which is based on Sprint's latest 6.5 ROM). Under Software Information in manila, it says 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87).
Zoom and pan would be so awesome -- if I could get this to work!
EDIT: Here's a link to a video of the HD2's Remote Desktop in action: http://htcpedia.com/news/htc-hd2-does-remote-desktop-mobile/

Actually my Tmo US TP2's stock 6.5 ROM came with a remote desktop client installed (I haven't played with it yet), the icon looks like the HD2's, but I don't know how to check the version to compare...? If it's the same, or even if you want to just test this one out, let me know how I can extract it for you and I'll be happy to pass it along.
Well I just installed this version on my spare TP2 and about to install the Zoombar, will let you know how it works out. I think Pinch to Zoom is software not hardware, but I dont know, someone can correct me if Im wrong.

Well yes and no lol. Traditionally pinch to zoom has been only possible on capactive touchscreens (HD2, iphone, Nexus 1, Droid, and a few others), and never on resistive screens (everything else), because of the physics behind how the two types of screens work.
However, THIS article describes some recent and pretty damn remarkable efforts to bring some of that multitouch magic to resistive screens too
Okay Well thats why I said I could be wrong But I know opera has the double tap to zoom in, so I was hopefull LOL. But anyway getting back to the post, I ran into the same problem with the app saying it wasnt a win pc app, dont know why, but based on the video I was watching this is the same version that the TP2 Generic Roms (SEA, EU, etc) come with. I installed the Zoombar Plus, and all it would do is scroll thru the start menu or the windows explorer screen, no zooming in.
Sorry

The difference would be that it has some sort of Zoom and Pan feature. It may be that the "pinch" gesture is required, but it may also be that just any sort of zooming signal will work. Remember that pinch-zoom is implemented by HTC themselves. I'm guessing that the zoom signal is still handled by SmartTouch.dll, which is the same DLL that handles the TP2's zoom bar. If the zoom signal is the same, then how you get it to zoom is immaterial. In other words, if this ever works (and that's a big "if"), the zoom bar might be able to give us nearly the same zoom functionality as pinch zooming in remote desktop.

I'm the author of ZoomBarPlus and I can tell you that it will add no zooming functionality to any app. It's just designed to catch the aforementioned zoom signalling and convert it into something else (default is up/down arrow keys).
I don't think it's the same version because I've never seen that zoom and pan stuff before. What I'm hoping is that there is some way to adapt the mods in the HD2 version so that Remote Desktop has zoom+pan for other devices.
Ok, gotcha....so you don't need a "TP2-compatible" version so much as you need a version capable of zooming based on input from the screen, which you hope to replace with input from the zoombar...yes? lol I think I've got it now
