Dash Got Wet... help? - HTC Excalibur

My Dash recently got wet (it was my 21st birthday), and now I have some (major) issues.
For a while it wouldn't turn on, at all. Then, after taking everything out (battery and sim card) and letting it sit for a few days, then recharging the batteries, my Dash turns on as soon as I put the battery in (rather than waiting for me to push the on/off button).
Then all my alarms from the past 2 weeks start to go off. As soon as I push ANY button, the Dash shuts down. End of story.
Is my beloved Dash completely FUBAR?
Thanks in advance,
David

Magic 8 Ball says: Signs point to yes

My opinion.
Remove the battery from it for 3 days.
Open it up (the phone)
Air dry the whole phone for the same amount of days.
proceed to assemble the phone back, insert the battery back.
Clear Storage command and hopefully it will set everything back to normal.
Cross your fingers.

Most likely its dead if that is happening. Probably fried some of the circuits on the board. If it is still under warrenty, you can try calling customer service and just tell them it stopped working. Don't offer up any information as to the cause.. This worked when i broke my screen.
"Customer service? Yes. My screen no longer works... Ok, we will replace it"
However, you may get dinged with a replacement fee of $100 (t-mobile) if they find that it was not the fault of the actual hardware. However, this is usually far cheaper then buying the phone again.
Interesting tho, my dash survived being fully emursed in a bucket of water. Never turned off, and still have never had any further issues. I still laff at it, i wish I coulda seen my face as I watched it sink to the bottom.

I would just call customer service and see what they say from there.

If you tell customer service what actually happened, you will have to buy a new phone. That is something I know they won't cover. Be vague and unsure of why its doing what it is doing and most likely you will be taken care of.

Thanks guys. I'll let you know how this goes (crossing fingers... but not expecting much)

Phone freezes up when idle

If I leave my phone on and come back to in about an hour it becomes unresponsive. The screen is won't come on, usb won't work and the power button doesn't work as well, but the lights still flash. All I can do is take the battery out and turn it on again.
At first i thought the keypad must have been getting disabled after a certain amount of time for some reason, but since the usb the connection alos dies when it's idle it must be something else.
I've been having this problem for awhile now. It first it started every once and awhile, but now it's getting to the point that I have to reset it every hour or so.
I just upgraded my ROM to Kavana 080408, but I've had this problem running the T-mobile WM6 ROM as well, therefore I'm guessing it's a hardware issue?
Any thoughts, questions, or help is greatly appriciated!
call tmobile and ask them to send you a new phone... its hardware issues...
Thank you. Err.. the only thing I haven't mentioned (for lack of mistaking the problem) is that just 3 days ago I dropped my phone outside and it rained the next morning. When I recovered the phone it was soaked.. I let it dry out and it worked again.
I think the incedent had to have been irrelevant, because I have been having this problem for about 8 months regaurdless, just not as severe.
Would T-mobile be able to know it got wet at some point and not exchange it because they'd assume the problem was due to water damage?
Well if you look under the battery to the right where the sim card goes, there is a litmus paper that turns purple/pink when wet and its white originally. I would just remove the paper if it is purple/pink and try to cut and glue a white piece of paper the same size. And then I would call them and tell them.
Glue and fish strips?
Thanks, but hmm.. how exact should this be? I was thinking about going to the fish store and buying some test strips and using those. Then i was thinking about thinning out some glue and using that to stick it. Does this sound good? I'll post how it goes.
Dash Arrived then Died
I just got my dash about two weeks ago. Before I could start finding my way around, it began acting strangely. It would not respond and sometimes suddenly cut off on it's on. Then it got to the point where it would not turn on right away. I would have to play with it (battery and SIM removal) and then it might turn on. I thought I was using the power button incorrectly.
Finally, the dash would not turn on at all. Since it was new and insured I requested a replacement. T-Mobile insisted that I test it with a alternate battery (I had a charger stand + battery on order but it had not arrived yet.) Since it would still not turn on via USB or power adapter (no charging lights either) I was certain it was not the battery. After arguing with a T-Mobile Rep and Supervisor I finally decided to lie (er um exaggerate) and tell them I had tested an alternate battery.
Before the new phone arrived the charger and spare battery arrived. I tried both batteries in the new phone with no problems.
You may want to try and get a new phone but the T-Mo rep definitely asked me the color of the paper strip inside the battery housing. My rep told me that it would change color if the LCD was damaged or cracked but I checked another phone (Samsung T409 and Motorola V188) and based on the locations of the strips I would assume it's a water damage test strip.
You may also want to see it you can remove a strip from an older phone.
Good luck!

Screen shuts off when slid up!

So... all of a sudden, everytime i slide the screen up, it shuts the screen off. I slide it back, hit the power button a few times, then it turns back on?

Power off your phone, remove the battery and then put it back in, making sure it fits in there snuggly.
That has happened to me, and removing/replacing the battery fixed it.
Yes, as Amy noted this behavior is often attributed to the battery not sitting exactly right in the compartment. Sometimes just popping it out and back in is enough, but some people have reported needeing to slip a small piece of paper or something similar under the battery cover as well to help keep it snug. (It seems that the sliding motion can be enough to shake the battery off the contacts if it's not secure enough).
Let us know if that clears it up
okay. what the deuce.
my tp2 just literally started doing the same.
earlier today it was perfectly fine.
but now.
i slide out the keyboard and the screen goes blank.
i tried the remove battery and restart.
didn't help.
i tried the paper between battery and cover.
didn't help either.
the screen only goes blank when completely slid out.
if i hold it open just before completely open the screen is still on.
any suggestions?
thanks.
Yea, none of those things worked. However, keeping the battery snug helped with the issue of not hearing anything through the handset.
It honestly sounds to me like both of you are dealing with a loose connection between the screen and the motherboard somewhere, either power or video feed, can't say for sure which. Unless you're willing to disassemble your rhodium (which isn't impossible, just complex), it sounds like it's time to send it to a service center (for AT&T) or to HTC, since that would be a warranty repair.
I hope that this is just freak coincidence that both of you had this happen just now, and not a sign that we're all at risk of having the same issue eventually
How long have each of you had your phones?
EDIT: One more question for you guys...whatever is on the display on your screen rotates into landscape before the display shuts off right?

i have own the phone for about three weeks...
though. bought it used from a friend who had it for four months.
but my friend bought it used from somebody too...
aka. not sure how long it has been used.
the display is rotated. and stays on as long as the right side is held.
before the 'tilt piece' is revealed. as soon as it is. the screen goes blank.
and i believe it would be the video feed...
i can still type with the keyboard. just can't see what i am typing.
unless i hold the screen from sliding completely out on the right.
and about the warranty...
would i have a warranty with htc still?
don't have proof of purchase.
just the phone and original box.
thanks.
My AT&T Tilt 2 has been exhibiting this behavior for some weeks now. It seems to be centered around the keyboard slide, but the behavior comes and goes. I found that slamming the phone on the desktop would bring it back to life for a little while, but then it would start to clap out again in a few days. What a pile.
Anyway, I have a fresh one from AT&T to swap out. Now all I have to do is get all my applications and stuff transferred over to the new phone before sending the craprod back to them.

Oh boy...yeah I didn't realize you'd gotten it third-hand. Well it has been less than a year since the Rhodium was released, so it's possible that HTC will still honor the 1-year manufacturer's warranty, but I can't guarantee it. My suggestion would be to just contact HTC America's service group (1-888-617-1113) and see what they say.
Best case: they agree to cover the repair
Worst case: an example of one of the risks you take when you buy something through "unofficial" channels
Yea luckily for me, I bought it second hand, but it was purchased from a retail store, meaning I got a warranty exchange. I just sent it back.
having same issue
im having same issue, when the phone is slid open, goes black, nothing gets it back on, the buttons light up, display dead
however, if i place it in stand by via power button in regular mode, then slide it open, it works, ive rattled and shook the phone, never goes back off, im typing this with it open and tilted....
any ideas?
prob leaving the htc community, samsung captivate, blackberry torch, or htc aria are my choices from at

Desire bootlooping, but with interesting story

So I dropped my Desire in the toilet while I was drunk the other week, quickly grabbed it out, took the battery out and took it to a repair shop the next morning. He said it would be a minimum 3 days before he could look at it because he said it has to dry out first.
Im guessing he had it in the chemicals for water damage, I dont know and I didnt have to pay. So he rang me 5 days later, said its up and running but it freezes a bit, wanted to let it 'rest' for another day and then I could come in and play with it to see if i was happy with it.
I couldnt come in on the 6th day, but came in on the 7th day and he basically told me the phone didnt make it, it had died and he was glad I didnt come in the day before. Asked if I wanted it back. I said yes because its still under contract. So he told me it would take 15 mins for him to put it all back together. So I had to wait. He returned, put it on the counter the walked off again.
I didnt realise this till later on but there was a little chip that was not there anymore on the front of the handset. I pulled the battery out and it was a bit bulgy and its water sticker was pink. I then compared the phones IMEI to my original box. Different IMEI. I then pulled the handset appart, the liquid stickers inside the handset were all white. So I pulled the charger out, put the dodgy battery in and turned it on.
It bootloops the HTC screen and its very breifly displayed. Like less than a second before it restarts. If I turn it off, the orange LED comes on as if its charging but it never charges. If I pull the battery out with it connected, I get the orange/green led combo. It will load the boot loader screen and can comunicate to the PC, I have tried running the 2.3 update off the HTC Dev site on it again, it successfully loads, but still has the same outcome
Has the phone repair shop done a dodgy on me, with my handset, fixing it, and giving me a stuffed one or is it an honest mistake.
Also if I put a brand new battery in this phone will it work? And should I ring this place up on Monday and ask them what the go is?
I might also add I just got the Sensation, so i'm not too concerned if it never works again.
Dude... If they gave you a different phone, of course you should ring them up and ask them to give you YOUR original phone. It sounds like they scammed you.
... this is a blatant con, they must take you for a retard or something. Go get your phone back before they sell it on.

You have obviously been given a different device. This can be a mistake however. Go back to the store and check with them what's happened.

yeah, i thought this would be the case, just didnt know if there was any phone shop owners that might say otherwise, and that its a mistake. oh well, guess ill call them tomorrow and ask them what the go is.

Condensation Hard Freeze, Reboot on Home Screen.

Hello
I just purchased a GSM Galaxy Nexus From Google last monday. Got it on wednesday the first thing i did was put a screen Protector on it before booting the phone up.(ArmorSuit MilitaryShield) The phone work great on Thursday no issues what so ever. Then i Friday i went to the gym. Kept the thing in my pocket and wiped my hands before touching anything on the phone. (Waiting for otterbox to arrive)
I as soon as i get out i notice Condensation in the front camera. I soon as i received a text my phone hung up and reboot itself. After loading again to the home screen it hung up again as soon as text pop up again. I after 8 tries i final was frustrated. Took the SIM card out and swipe to the right with my finger to try to see if i could unlock it to the home screen.
I was finally able to get into the phone and turn on airplane mode before it hung up again. After i did that i Sut down phone and put the SIM card back in. Repeated the the same steps. As i turn airplane mode off the phone hung up again! (Seems everyone in the mother had to text me at that moment) I was able to make two phone call's before it lock up, but i couldn't hear them and they couldn't hear me. Called 611 then i was able to hear at&t computer but sound like the speaker was dieing. Then the phone lock up and reboot itself.
So i go into the boot loader. The phone was functioning perfected in the boot loader. Play with it for about 10mins. No hangs up. I found that weird. So i reboot the phone was able to get myself into the Factory reset. After that i did a hard factory reset.
So i call Google and they sent me over to Samsung. Samsung wants to do a replacement. I don't mind doing that i just don't like the fact they need a CC number just in case they have to Charge if the phone was abuseded which it wasn't. Baby the hell out of it. They asking me if the phone came into any touch with liquid. The the only thing i could think of was the solution the screen Protector Company sent. I didn't spray the solution directly on the phone but the direction told me to spray couple of sprays on the side of the SP that was going on the screen. (2 Sprays).
The Samsung rep told me the systoms don't sound like water damage. So after getting off the phone (About 1 hr) i notice the condensation was disappearing from the lens. So i took a quick blow dryer to it for about 30 secs. Turn the phone back on and everything been rock solid (Expect for wifi cutting in and out for some reason) for about 2 days.
So tomorrow Samsung fiance department will be calling me for my CC info. My question do you think i should send it in ? Do you think they will find water damage? Was this water damage ? Does the GSM galaxy nexus have Water Sticker ? I'm not able to find one. (Every where i googled no one had a direct answer)
I'm not trying to rip Samsung off i just don't want this to happen down the road again. If it was water damage ill just deal with it i guess.
I wonder if i don't open the new phone tey send me and just use my old 3gs in till i hear back from them... will i be able to send the Replacement phone back if it was water damage ? Just pay the shipping costs? First time dealing with something like this
What do you think i should do ?
Thank you for any input.
Sorry for the wall of text.
Just Notice i posted this in the wrong section My bad ill ask for mod to move it.
Look at the water contact indicator under the battery and see if it is red. A wet apply screen protector should not have caused this, but be careful to not let water get in the speaker and crevices when applying. In the future if your phone does come in contact with water or condensation remove the battery and sim Immediately and place in dry rice for 24 hours, do not try to power it on. Many others are reporting wifi instability, check the threads for solutions.

Do you think Samsung will find anything ? Sorry for all the questions. The lens on the front camera was white. Is there stickers inside the phone where the CPU is
I heard there was like 3 water indicators in the phone.
That I couldn't tell you, I've never taken the phone apart so I would only be guessing. You might could find out by looking for a "tear down" of the phone, there should be several online if you do a Google search. Is the phone continuing to function well for you? Besides the wifi?
Yeah its been running great. Just got off the phone with Samsung. I think i just keep this phone. I don't want to pay for repair cost's. If the phone dies in month then i guess it was water damage. I hope there's no corrosion on PCB. I would love to take it apart but i don't want to void the warranty to check. Is there warranty Sticker in there ?
The wifi thing might be my fault. My laptop does that sometimes too. I'm just freaking out. I love the phone. I don't want it too die. Just ran a CPU stability test for about 15mins. No errors the battery was at 42c temp. Went ahead and sut the phone down. Going to wait 15 mins then turn it back on.

TMobile LG G4 Turned off and wont come back on

This is a Fully Stock, Fully OTA updated, TMobile LG G4 "May" Build.
Ok, irony is to follow... "I just finished paying off my LG G4" and a couple days ago... I woke up, unplugged the phone, Opened Hangouts and started a text message. The screen completely locked up within seconds. I pushed the power button to turn the screen off and it did so. I pushed it again to turn the screen on. It took a few seconds before coming back on and seemed sluggish so I powered down the phone. At this point the phone was DEAD.
I tried charging it, even though it charged all night, but nothing even shows on the screen. I tried booting into safemode/recovery nothing at all happens. I tried another battery from a working LG G4 and nothing at all. Nothing on the screen, no vibration... Just Darkness. Water sticker is white and there has never been any water or physical damage.
-Bought this phone from TMobile for use on Family Mobile. TMobile says "because it is not in use on our lines we cant do anything".
-TMobile goes on to say that the warranty is up anyway...
-I have seen that this is a Known issue by TMobile and LG all over the internet with people getting replacements
Questions:
-Should I try to contanct Family Mobile or would that be a waste of time?
-Should TMobile replace a product with a known defect even after warranty?
-Should LG replace a product with a known defect even after warranty?
-If those fail are there ways out of warranty to revive the phone?
Suggestions Please and Thank You!!
I sent the phone into LG and it took them 5 days to come back with a diagnosis. The results were shocking coming from a company that I personally swore by for years now because of their product quality.
The diagnosis was "Touch Window needs replaced". I almost punched a wall when I saw that. I have a tiny hair line scratch at the top pf the Digitizer from my keys and that is their Diagnosis for why my phone shut off and wont turn back on. They gave me a price to fix the screen and explained nothing about the power issue. Contacting them only furthered my frustration as all 5 members of Customer Support played the same broken record. I asked the following; "What is being done about the power issue?", "Why cant you just fix the power issue?", "What was the cause of the phone not powering on?", "Why cant you tell me why the phone wont power on?". They all repeated; "We fix the whole device in general especially if it has physical damage or defects", "You can choose to pay for the repair or not pay", "The touch screen was found to be damaged or have cosmetic issues". They refused to even acknowledge the power issue because of this tiny little scratch that allows them to hide the real issue.
So now I have to decide either to pay them an absurd amount ($153) to replace the Digitizer and let them tuck the power issue under the rug -or- Have them send it back to me, replace the digitizer ($40 actual cost) myself and send it back and see what they charge and have to say.... I am willing to bet at that point they come back and say, "Your phone is out of warranty we can offer you a refurbished phone for $153". Which, is probably what they are actually charging me for and not a Touch Window because I am guessing the main board is defective and that is why they don't want to talk about it.
I am very upset with LG over this... bad Customer Support when they are trained to repeat the same answers over and over to different questions and never really answer the questions.
