Hi there, I dropped my HTC 3600 not long ago (threw it actually - which was a stupid thing to do), and surprisingly it kept working, GPS as well, for about a week. Now though, when i turn the phone on, it won't accept my sim password, or anybody elses.
The phone displays the keypad password screen, but when i type my password and press 'unlock' nothing happens. 'Unlock' becomes highlighted, but nothing happens.
I took the phone to a shop, and they said it could not be fixed. They said the phone can not read the sim card.
What i find strange though, is that i can still receive calls? Wouldn't the phone have to be able to read my sim card for someone to call me?
If anyone can offer any help, it would be much appreciated. This is an awesome piece of technology, and not being able to use it is very frustrating,
thanks

Hi,
Sorry if this has been posted before, can't find anything on it but not sure what I should be searching for. I've just received a replacement Orbit from O2, it boots up ok but doesn't seem to be able to get a phone signal even though I know I'm in a good signal area. Been on for about 2 hours but all I get is the searching icon. Anybody know what's wrong with it?
Thanks
just one other thing, when the phone boots up what should it show in the top left, i.e IPL/SPL/GSM/OS.
Sorry if this is obvious and redundant -
But have you tried various levels of resetting the phone from a simple power on/off all the way to a hard reset? Also, are you able to access SIM features like stored contacts?
Tried removing battery/sim/sd card soft reset. Just tried restoring from SPB backup and now device gets stuck at the green "Direct Push Technology" screen. What keys do a hard reset?
Cheers
Hold down the two 'soft keys' they are the ones directly to the left and right of the chrome wheel towards the top are of it. Keep holding them down while you use your stylus to press the resessed reset button on the bottom left side of the phone. Keep holding the soft keys until the phone displays a message for you to confirm by pushing the green 'talk' key. this will put your phone back into the smae state it was when it was new in the box, you will have to do the screen aligning and all that BS....
Hopefully this works for you. Otherwise I would suspect faulty hardware.
Send it back..if it's a replacement then it too is fubar and you shouldn't try and "fix" it...ring them from a landline and tell them to drop a new unit and collect the "replacement".
Why not try and 'fix' it? Thats half the purpose of this board. I know the company is liable for sending a defective unit, but if he can get it working on his own then more power to him.
Agreed....but I too have had a "replacement" orbit from O2 which had more problems then the one I sent back...I think they "recycle" the returned phones when they consider them fixed!! That is only reason to send it back...after that come here and learn how to make it sing !!
Cheers for the help people, rang O2 and it turned out it was a refurb and had been blocked off the network. Do have one other issue with it, when I receive a text and try to reply its trying to send as an email. Rang O2 and they didn't know how to sort it, anyone here know?
Thanks
My phone is stuck in locked mode, the unlock button is non responsive as well as the power button. I haven't done any ROM Updates, or added anything to the phone that could have changed its programming.. It just
doesn't respond. It's basically a fancy clock now.. that can only receive calls.
Since its a software issue by the looks of it, I don't want to take it in right away... But, any help is much appreciated.
have yeah tried taking your battery out and putting it back in?
press left softkey then z.
Yes, I have tried taking out the battery and turning it on.
And like I said, the buttons aren't responding...
maybe u need a sim card that works?
SIM Card's fine , like I said, it receives calls. The phone just doesn't respond to many key presses and just doesn't want to be unlocked. I purchased it on February 10th.
This is obviously not a common problem.
Did you try to reinstall the rom? worst case scenario
Hi, I have been messing around with this phone I got off ebay which was sold as faulty because "it kept restarting" of its own accord. I know a fair bit about this phone and how to upgrade/fix most problems but this problem is very unique and I certainly cant find anything anywhere else so good luck to anyone who thinks they can solve this one....
Ok... set the scene... After lots of messing around the current state of play is this. Without a simcard the phone works perfectly. i.e. switches on and does all the flight mode stuff you could ask it. Its perfect. However when you put in a simcard (any simcard) the phone still functions perfectly but with strange affliction that ANY button pressed makes the phone restart. That is- the touchscreen works as normal- so in theory you could use the phone without using the buttons (if you were mad!). Also, the current ROM and original ROM are T-mobile although because it doesnt ask for a sim unlock code when I put in an Orange simcard you would assume its unlocked already (I'll come to that...!). The Orange simcard seems to let the phone come on but never actually gets a signal (plus the button problem!). the T-mobile simcard works as normal but of course the buttons are a bit of a pain.
I have tried to reflash the phone with a standard Tmobile ROM which worked fine but gave the same problems as before (I suspect the seller on ebay tried something similar) and have searched through all forums etc for a simliar problem but no luck...
My Theory... I dont think this is a physical problem with the phone given the perfect operation without a simcard and almost full operation with one. The unusual network difficulty with the Orange simcard is what leads me to believe that it is problem with the SIM lock. I suspect that someone has entered the wrong SIM unlocking code (too many times perhaps) for this phone and thats why its behaving badly. What I was thinking about doing was entering the correct SIM unlock code (I have this) but as the phone never actually asks for the code; then I dont know how to do this! (perhaps there is a sequence of numbers/symbols which will activate this?). Alternatively I could try to re-establish the simlock for this phone and then enter the correct code when asked. Again, this is very unusual to have to do so theres nothing anywhere else about this problem
So any ideas on my theory- do you have any of your own???
Kudos, fame and my eternal gratification are up for grabs here!!!
Anyone? Any Ideas?
You could try a sim lock, or you could even try flashing one of the custom roms here. However, it sounds like a hardware issue...maybe the sim's circuitry is somehow shorting the circuitry for the buttons. Does the phone have any water damage? Have you opened it up to check?
Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I have tried to separate ROMs for the phone and that doesnt seem to make a difference. I know that the sim lock for the phone is not dependant on the ROM (or so I understand). The water damage theory sounds like an interesting one- it fits the symptoms. Not sure if it has suffered any symptoms. i'll have a go at opening it up and see what I can see. Assuming that might be the case- do you have any suggestions for the phone?
also, any idea how to relock the sim of the htc touch?
I would think it is more phone related issue therefore
1) change the phone Network settings to GSM instead auto or 3G.
2) try other Radio version:
furthermore if you plug the device to power does it still reboots?
Hi, tried to change the network settings (could only do this with my Tmobile simcard installed) but no change in the button problem. Also updated the radio version with no difference at all. I think this cud be a flight mode phone forever more!!!
also power from USB or wall adaptor makes no difference to the problem
Hi, first of all, sorry if its a repost.
I have a touch pro 2 and upgraded it to WM 6.5 couple of months ago. now i realize that at the home page, I press "phone", nothing come up. it suppose to show me a phone keypad for me to press numbers to call. i tried soft reset twice, but nothing happen. it seems stuck, and cant show the keypad. I just realize it when i was about to save a new number.
Can somebody help me?
You may have already checked this, so I apologize if this sounds stupid, but did you try pressing the little phone icon at the bottom of the screen (where the soft keyboard button usually is, except it looks like a phone instead, at least on my Verizon TP2). That happened to me the other day while trying to enter my pin for voicemail and I found the soft keyboard (phone pad) had simply collapsed. One tap and I was back in business.
thx2. relax, it wont sound stupid, any solution is welcome here. ya i check already and still no use. anybody else have the same problem and got the solution?
This sounds almost exactly like the same proplem i´ve had twice now. If that is the case then your sms capability should be gone as well.
The data connection (GPRS, HDSPA or whatever is availiable in your area) wil be working fine but you should notice that the antenna icon at the top of the screen will show no connection, i.e. antenna logo with exclamation mark.
If your problem is consistent with this behavior there is good news & bad news.
Good news: There is a fix.
Bad news: Only fix that i know of so far is to do a Hard Reset.
Seeking help, i posted a question about i yesterday. Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=646853
It´s almost as if the "phone software" has generated an error and shut down. I don´t know how to restart it. Tried switching to airplane mode & back. Tried redetecting the cellular network and got prompted for a PIN code. Entered it and then nothing. Still no phone.

Very good day
I have a query, I have a HTC Touch PRO 2 RHOD300
The phone is counting on the next problem happens when you try to turn the screen by pressing the button on top that will not start and if you take the pen side of the phone just turn on the lights in the lower keys where this call, Windows key, Back and Finish. The phone returns to regain normal when a call comes in after the returns to be shut down and locked and not back on the screen.
In other cases there is the disadvantage that remains off, open the phone to expand and to use the qwerty keyboard and this light comes on but no screen and if you call the phone number that shows no signs of life with this call More on the other side of where you are calling is heard that he was calling.
My question is whether they have a patch for the solution and if someone else had already reported this fault, this problem is being presented to several phone numbers of friends and wanted to see whether if they had a patch to fix what they could afford to apply it to the phones have this fault.
If in case anyone has a solution for this above I would appreciate very much.
Funny... I have been experiencing this same problem just recently. I have another identical phone and replace the sim card in it with the same results. It doesnt appear to happen to the phone when the sim card is not installed. I have tried hard reset, selectively installing programs, thinking it was a programing problem with one or another, but nothing I tried seems to change the problem. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
KC
Note that for my part I've been trying to give solution to the problem and have identified the following place your sim but the connections do not let my ISP leaves your network connection as my job to your phone so you do not use the 3G data network, thus the problem will not happen.
To me this is what happens, the phone went dead, but if you remove the stylus from the side, the lower lights are lit but not the screen, but if you make a phone call to your cell this and respond, but entering Idle this again locked again.
HTC have written to me but these have not been resolved.
I am in Guatemala and I used 2 different companies and the problem persists.
You friend in that country is, and have only confirmed this problem also began to give you on Friday May 20? because that was the time when many telephones HTC Touch Pro2 here began to have these symptoms.
Yes. Friday would be correct.
So if the issue is global, it is the end of the world of mobile
This doesn't appear to be a new problem though. If you search on "Screen of Death", it is quite common. However, I have tried several of the solutions that I have come across, with no go. It is complicated by the fact that we started experiencing the problem at the same time.
