Very unique HTC touch problem... - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi, I have been messing around with this phone I got off ebay which was sold as faulty because "it kept restarting" of its own accord. I know a fair bit about this phone and how to upgrade/fix most problems but this problem is very unique and I certainly cant find anything anywhere else so good luck to anyone who thinks they can solve this one....
Ok... set the scene... After lots of messing around the current state of play is this. Without a simcard the phone works perfectly. i.e. switches on and does all the flight mode stuff you could ask it. Its perfect. However when you put in a simcard (any simcard) the phone still functions perfectly but with strange affliction that ANY button pressed makes the phone restart. That is- the touchscreen works as normal- so in theory you could use the phone without using the buttons (if you were mad!). Also, the current ROM and original ROM are T-mobile although because it doesnt ask for a sim unlock code when I put in an Orange simcard you would assume its unlocked already (I'll come to that...!). The Orange simcard seems to let the phone come on but never actually gets a signal (plus the button problem!). the T-mobile simcard works as normal but of course the buttons are a bit of a pain.
I have tried to reflash the phone with a standard Tmobile ROM which worked fine but gave the same problems as before (I suspect the seller on ebay tried something similar) and have searched through all forums etc for a simliar problem but no luck...
My Theory... I dont think this is a physical problem with the phone given the perfect operation without a simcard and almost full operation with one. The unusual network difficulty with the Orange simcard is what leads me to believe that it is problem with the SIM lock. I suspect that someone has entered the wrong SIM unlocking code (too many times perhaps) for this phone and thats why its behaving badly. What I was thinking about doing was entering the correct SIM unlock code (I have this) but as the phone never actually asks for the code; then I dont know how to do this! (perhaps there is a sequence of numbers/symbols which will activate this?). Alternatively I could try to re-establish the simlock for this phone and then enter the correct code when asked. Again, this is very unusual to have to do so theres nothing anywhere else about this problem
So any ideas on my theory- do you have any of your own???
Kudos, fame and my eternal gratification are up for grabs here!!!

Anyone? Any Ideas?

You could try a sim lock, or you could even try flashing one of the custom roms here. However, it sounds like a hardware issue...maybe the sim's circuitry is somehow shorting the circuitry for the buttons. Does the phone have any water damage? Have you opened it up to check?

Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I have tried to separate ROMs for the phone and that doesnt seem to make a difference. I know that the sim lock for the phone is not dependant on the ROM (or so I understand). The water damage theory sounds like an interesting one- it fits the symptoms. Not sure if it has suffered any symptoms. i'll have a go at opening it up and see what I can see. Assuming that might be the case- do you have any suggestions for the phone?

also, any idea how to relock the sim of the htc touch?

I would think it is more phone related issue therefore
1) change the phone Network settings to GSM instead auto or 3G.
2) try other Radio version:
furthermore if you plug the device to power does it still reboots?

Hi, tried to change the network settings (could only do this with my Tmobile simcard installed) but no change in the button problem. Also updated the radio version with no difference at all. I think this cud be a flight mode phone forever more!!!

also power from USB or wall adaptor makes no difference to the problem

"9" of DEATH! Help!

Phone: EXCA200 (as read on the back) AZERTY keyboard. ActiveSync says is a HTC-S620
Story: My best friend bought this phone in France and some guy tried to be nice and apparently tried to install some games on it. He broke it. She came to me after and said, "if you fix it you can keep it-- but i don't think you can". ( She was using the phone in the US with a US carrier at that time i think it was Cingular)
When I turn on the phone and after the HTC and WinMobile screens the sim error screen appears (the phone has no sim) and 999999 as if the "9" key is stuck. After that, the phone just goes crazy with alarms and if I'm lucky and get over that just 9999999999999 endlessly. I thought at first that it was water damage so i took it apart and found no evidence of water whatsoever.
I found the HTCwiki and tried the hard reset technique (pressing power button while pressing the two open keys) and after 50+ tries i gave up. No luck.
I found a couple good threads that describe how to reflash the phone with RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly.exe" and RUU_Excalibur_HTC_GER_1.11.407.2_4.1.13.28_02.63.90_Ship.exe
I get "ERROR 294" INVALID VENDOR ID
Please!! Help!! My experience with smart phones is 2 days with a broken one.
I live in Mexico and smart phones are still something you only see on TV. No one to ask, nowhere to go.
Sincerely,
Salvador333
Where is everyone?
Nobody has any advice?
Nothing?
Do i have to unlock the phone? Can you use a locked phone in France and then in the US without unlocking it?
Should I pay 38 dlls?

Mr monakh:
Ive tried the reset sequence many times before starting a new thread. Ive spent many hours just doing that in all the imaginable different timings. All I get is the HTC screen first and the Windows mobile screen second, after that, without a SIM, a screen telling me i have no sim and in the cursor just 99999 and after many alarms it crashes; with a sim, it will boot and 9999999... and the the screen locks and its impossible to press "unlock *"
This is the reason I'm asking for help. The only thing I can imagine is to re-flash the phone. I tried to re-flash it, but apparently i have to pay to get my phone unlocked before being able to re-flash. Is this true?
I really appreciate your help. Thank You.
Salvador.
I also want to add that i know its not a hardware problem, I disconnected the keyboard from the motherboard and the 99999 still there.
Is it possible that the hard reset sequence described above doesn't work? --(both soft keys work)
Is there a way to remap the 9 key into a harmless key, so i can hard reset the phone trough software?
(the phone syncs normally to my computer)
Thanks.
The hard reset sequence should work. I don't know of any reason, short of hardware failure, why it wouldn't.
I think you can try re-flashing the ROM, if you like, but it really is more likely to be a hardware problem than a ROM issue. It doesn't necessarily have to do with the keyboard (you actually disconnected the keyboard?!) but you can still can get the '9' for other reasons.
You don't need to get the phone CID unlocked to get a different ROM, but you do have to play around a bit to get it done. I am sorry, I can't offer more step by step help but it might be beneficial for you if you read through the following two threads:

I thought it was water damage at first, but when i took it apart, i couldn't find anything to indicate there was any liquid in there. I thought maybe the keyboard was the problem and, yes, i did disconnect it from the motherboard (its actually really easy) and the same 9999. What other hardware reasons could make the "9" problem? I cant find any reason to believe its hardware. I boots kind of normally, it goes into manual bootloader no problem, it syncs with my computer etc. It just wont go into the hard reset mode! WEIRD.
I read the threads and the only clue i found to re-flash was to downgrade the bootloader by getting the phone in manual bootload (camera button and connecting USB) and run the .exe. I did, and INVALID VENDOR ID. Is anything i missed in the threads to be able to re-flash?
I truly appreciate your comments.

CID, 111111, google.
Im on it.
Thanks!
dude why not replace it its under warranty man stop making an issue of this do your hoemwork read just like everyone else !!
I did it!
I tried the cid 111111 bla bla, and it was jut to much effort for a phone so i just went to imei-check and unlock everything. Damn! 40dlls, many Mexican pesos. So i installed the German version ROM and the F... 99999999 was still there!!!! I wanted to kill myself, monakh you were right. I opened the phone for like the 20th time and i knew it was hardware... and there it was, lead rust in the keyboard connector. I took a tooth brush, some alcohol and i brushed. Voilà! no more "9" I could have saved money time and effort if i just had looked close enough.
I'm happy i got into this, i love to learn new tricks.
You guys were really helpful, and a bit shady, i have to say.
Thank you.
Salvador.
. I think i am smart dumb!!.. <<-"Try Reseting the CID" haha.
This happens when you have too much of knowledge...!! truely education spoiled me!!
Glad it worked out for you and I am sorry you had to pay $40 but hopefully it will pay off for you in the long run.
leoiden, if you note, he is in Mexico and has no reasonable means to exchange the phone under warranty. It was acquired in France. Please pay more attention to the original post before prancing down someone's throat. Thanks.

totally stuck, but not bricked. big problem w/ htc rom update

i Download the HTC Fuze ROM Update- Version 5.11.502.2 WWE
after i flashed it and booted it, initial setup was taking place... it said it was setting up touchFLO. everything looked good.
until...
it just rebooted!
and it keeps cycling that way. it never gets to load windows.
i have read that other people have been having trouble with touchflo after the update... but now i cant even get windows to load.
ive been trying to find solution all day. about 15 hours. i cant even flash another rom into it. i cannot hard spl. anyone?
try hold volume down + softreset, connect usb, then install stock rom (original rom)
Do u have a Fuze or a Diamond??
Fuze roms are for Fuze devices, Diamond roms are for Diamond devices only.
And you´re in the Diamond section.
You should check that.
i cannot find the original stock rom. htc.com does not have it. i also tried searching. there was a post in which a guy had the same problem. he was directed to a S.E.A. WWE ROM. i also downloaded it and gave it a try but i got an "invalid vendor id" error. i think that means i must hard spl. but i CANT. it hangs at 0%. and i cant sspl manual. cuz i cnt even boot into an OS.
yea, i have a FUZE. i am aware that fuze roms are for fuze devices and diamond roms are for diamond devices. since i have not been successful in flashing my fuze with stock OR updated rom from htc (mainly since i cannot find the stock rom,) i am trying to flash it with ANY compatible rom.. i just need this phone working at LEAST so i can boot to an Operating system.
i am stil searching and searching for a stock rom for this fuze.... because that seems like it is my only sure bet. if anyone already knows or can point me in another direction, that would be great. i will be contacting htc rightnow.
I do not know if this was your problem, but I realized that whenever I try to flash a new rom with usb devices connected on pc, the process stops. my luck that I did before hardspl

do not forget to do the next time hardspl
hi
hi did you check the wiki? http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs has all the stock roms for xdas, this link is for the touch pro, fuze raphael whichever >.>.
yes, i did check the wiki.. for each of the att roms, it says i need spl 1.90. i have the stock spl 5.10. i dont think i can flash those roms. i have been running thru so many threads, i am just about overwhelmed
marcolero, thanks for those links. it looks like that is what im looking for (http://rapidshare.com/files/157242627/RUU_Raphael_Cingular_US_.exe)
sounds like thats it. thanks. i will try that now.
good luck, hope it works!
it worked. thanks alot
but it did not solve my initial problem... the reason why i flashed it in the first place.
my htc fuze did NOT resume from standby. this problem started suddenly one day. after the backlight dims after 30 sec, and then the lcd turns off after 1 min, pressing the power button did not wake my phone up. i was, however, able to turn the volume up and down, and heard the notification sounds.
since i could not manually hard reset my phone (the reset button did not work when pressed with my stylus) i decided to update my phone with the rom provided by htc website.
flashing was successful, but my phone kept rebooting before it loaded windows.
so now i had another problem. i couldnt even hard spl, or load any other rom. but thankfully, after much confusion and help from you guys, i found the stock fuze rom
after i flashed my phone with the rom you guys provided, i still had the problem in which my phone would not wake up after standby.
it turned out that getting a new sim card fixed my problem.
kinda makes sense... well, somehow... because i read that another guy in this forum solved HIS problem by messing with the phone settings. (choosing gsm or 3g instead of auto)
i wonder if i should make another thread for this problem and its solution. bah....
i wonder how many people have sent in their phone for repair when the solution was as simple as this. i myself, thought my lcd was damaged. becuase my phone got wet couple months ago and smudged the screen. on top of that, this phone was bought refurbished. heh... what a dilema.
thanks all
Hi that was me that solved my Standby of Death problem by changing phone band option from AUTO to 3G only (also works if set 2G only from auto)...
Its good to hear that you also solved your Standby of Death problem but by changing SIM, this doesn't surprise me, did you also change provider or was it just a faulty sim?
I don't think a change of SIM would benefit me as I had the problem with my old SIM (I don't think my SIM is faulty per se not if they are all like that) besides changing the band setting from auto to either 3G only or 2G only works for me and I'm happy with that. If I didn't have a working solution I would def try changing SIM however and I don't want to discourage doing that.
Also I would only get the Standby of Death 2-3 times a week which coinceded with being in a weak 3G area (where the phone might auto switch bands) it didn't happen as often as you had it. The problem is def connected to the SIM card.
Obviously everything I've written above only applies to those who have the Standby of Death because of the SIM or settings which impact the SIM, to rule out a software cause are best to start with a hard reset.

[Q] Answer inconvenience phone use, No power display

Very good day
I have a query, I have a HTC Touch PRO 2 RHOD300
The phone is counting on the next problem happens when you try to turn the screen by pressing the button on top that will not start and if you take the pen side of the phone just turn on the lights in the lower keys where this call, Windows key, Back and Finish. The phone returns to regain normal when a call comes in after the returns to be shut down and locked and not back on the screen.
In other cases there is the disadvantage that remains off, open the phone to expand and to use the qwerty keyboard and this light comes on but no screen and if you call the phone number that shows no signs of life with this call More on the other side of where you are calling is heard that he was calling.
My question is whether they have a patch for the solution and if someone else had already reported this fault, this problem is being presented to several phone numbers of friends and wanted to see whether if they had a patch to fix what they could afford to apply it to the phones have this fault.
If in case anyone has a solution for this above I would appreciate very much.
Funny... I have been experiencing this same problem just recently. I have another identical phone and replace the sim card in it with the same results. It doesnt appear to happen to the phone when the sim card is not installed. I have tried hard reset, selectively installing programs, thinking it was a programing problem with one or another, but nothing I tried seems to change the problem. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
KC
Note that for my part I've been trying to give solution to the problem and have identified the following place your sim but the connections do not let my ISP leaves your network connection as my job to your phone so you do not use the 3G data network, thus the problem will not happen.
To me this is what happens, the phone went dead, but if you remove the stylus from the side, the lower lights are lit but not the screen, but if you make a phone call to your cell this and respond, but entering Idle this again locked again.
HTC have written to me but these have not been resolved.
I am in Guatemala and I used 2 different companies and the problem persists.
You friend in that country is, and have only confirmed this problem also began to give you on Friday May 20? because that was the time when many telephones HTC Touch Pro2 here began to have these symptoms.
Yes. Friday would be correct.
So if the issue is global, it is the end of the world of mobile
This doesn't appear to be a new problem though. If you search on "Screen of Death", it is quite common. However, I have tried several of the solutions that I have come across, with no go. It is complicated by the fact that we started experiencing the problem at the same time.

[Q] Desire HD No Service Issue

I have an unlocked DHD that's about 10 months old, since the beginning of the month, it's intermittently been saying "no service". Normally a switch in and out of Airplane Mode sorts the problem out.
I know it's not a sim card issue as I'm now on my third sim card, and the problem still persists. Occasionally my phone fails to recognize the sim card altogether, and I get a "please insert sim" message when I boot up the phone. It doesn't matter what network the phone is on, the problem is still there.
Any ideas?
Thanks
is it stock firmware or have you rooted and flashed any ROMs on it? If not, simplest thing to do is get call HTC UK, it's still under warranty so they will pick it up and fix it. A mate of mine had intermittent issue with power button on his Desire and got is sorted with HTC. They picked up and returned phone in week, completely fixed.
It originally happened to me on stock firmware, which prompted me to root and flash ARHD 6.1.0. I have also flashed a new radio, but the problem is still there, meaning that it has to be hardware related.
If I have to I can flash back to stock so that HTC can repair the device. Although I have heard horror stories of devices being returned with just a reflash from HTC, so I'm a little reluctant to send it off to them.
Thanks for your help. I guess I'll have to send it off to HTC if I can't find a fix for it :/
FIXED!
Ok, I sent my phone off to HTC on wednesday last week, and it's just arrived back. Pretty quick service really! The problem seems to be fixed, for the time being, as it was an intermittent fault.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here would be able to tell me what the part they replaced was?
On the enclosed piece of paper it says:
Parts replaced:
GPS Cover (Brown)
Sponge, sponge_under MB cover, SRS 70p, ACE
I'm guessing that MB stands for motherboard, any other ideas as to what this "sponge" might be?
Thanks in advance
Get appkiller or something free memory recover or so run it and wait 1second turn of screen wait 1 second turn it on aund u can put ur pin code and u have service!

LG-H815 - "service disabled," no signal received.

I have an LG-H815 running the v10c-EUR software. It's been running fine up until today. Today when I turned off the phone and turned it back on, I got a notice of "service disabled" and the phone was showing the search symbol above antennae reception bars for a minute or so and then it would change to a small red "X". I have taken the battery out, removed the Sim card and put everything back to no avail. I tried the sim card in my old phone and it works fine. I did a complete wipe and factory reset and the problem persists. The phone will report "no sim card" if I start it up without the sim. When I put the sim in, it just says "service disabled" and then "no service. " I even tried going back to default apn and then re-entering my straight talk apn and rebooting - still nothing. I have not added any programs lately and I have been using a Qi charger with an aftermarket sticker with no problems whatsoever for the past 45 days. I haven't had so much as a hiccup with the phone until today!
Has anyone else experienced such a crazy and sudden loss of service? Is my radio fried, or is there a software solution to this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I sure hope I can get some ideas on how to fix this. I have square trade coverage on this and my only option is to send it to their repair center. That seems like it would be a total waste of time.
Try your sim card in another phone and another sim card in your phone to determine if your sim card is faulty or maybe your sim card reader. I get the "service disabled" message until I enter my pin code.
I tried the sim swap out and nothing. I also was getting a weird phenomenon where very briefly I would get one bar of signal and the no signal warning would shut off, then in a matter of seconds, the signal would fade and then shut completely off again. This looks like it is almost certainly a hardware issue that has nothing to do with the sim card or sim card reader. I sent if off to the SquareTrade service center to see if they can fix it (doubtful). I'm hoping I get a good result from them as I have not LG warranty and bought the Squaretrade coverage at the time of phone purchase.
I'm getting this occasionally. Occurs randomly.
According to posts around here, the G4's stock ROM and stuffs are bad. Only thing to do is wait for them to fix it. Maybe it's related.

No, I haven't been asked for the SIM card pin. My problem was definitely a hardware failure. I filed a claim with Squaretrade and shipped it off to their California service center. I just got the phone back today after a week's wait. At first, the service guys were saying it was a software problem and I wasn't covered. Then I called the claims department and read them the riot act and insisted they update my information to the service department about not having changed the software at all when the problem arose and all the steps I had taken to establish rather conclusively that it was indeed a hardware malfunction. Well....lo and behold, I get an update the next day that they had replaced the motherboard and it was now working fine. If anyone else has this same problem and you happen to have squaretrade insurance, the precedent has been established that it is a hardware issue and you are covered.:good:
This happened today and the phone kept shutting off as well after freezing and now won't turn on. It may have hard bricked itself. Going to try another g4 battery at the t-mobile store or maybe get a replacement. Hopefully certain un-backed up things can be recovered.
I reset the phone adding some press in SIM CARD slot and signal was recoverd, seems like hardware issue.
I had the same thing, only after going back to factory settings the phone works fine again...

It happened again and now after going back to factory settings, the problem stays...
Happened to me as well. Removed SIM, mem card and battery and left the phone to cool down. Putting back everything after an hour fixed it.
happened to me just now.
when i press the power button nothing happened, so i decided to remove the battery and restart it.
after restarting service disabled is displayed on my lockscreen. i checked the imei and "unknown" is written.
does anyone here know a fix on this? doesn't have a warranty so i don't know how much LG service center will charge me if i take it to them directly.
It just started to happen to me yesterday after 18 months of use.
Its the very same problems. Im rolling with a LG G3 thoug.
It even did persist after several ROMs clean flashing and even a stock FW flashing.
All of sudden, its working again for an hour or so!
U all need to flash modems of H815 MM or custom via TWRP Or flashfire...usually its a zip file search here on xda
It's the battery!
I had the same "service disabled" nightmare, then I realized the problem started when I swapped in a freshly charged battery. My batteries have been misbehaving recently, and they've probably cycled to their max. When I changed back to a different battery the issue disappeared. I've had this a couple of times now, where "service disabled" would come up, restarting wouldn't help, but switching back to the previous battery did. My suggestion: test your phone with a different battery.

I bought a new battery and, first start with the new battery was ok, but the second restart the problem returned...
With a lot of times trying different methods, I found out that restarting the phone while connected to a charger or computer always works for me (tried this at least 20 times and it always works).
Turning on the pin-code of the sim also seems to do the trick, the phone first displays service disabled and then asks for the pin, after entering the pin, the sim becomes active (I only rebooted like this a few times, but it worked every time).
Had this problem. Done a hard reset which seems to have fixed the problem at least for now ( only been one day! Keep waiting for it to start doing it again but so far so good)
I found out that restarting the phone while connected to a charger works for me too
