VoIP error
Hi SchillDie, regarding your VoIP error, I think is quite difficult to make it work on WM6. I'm using pfingo to configure my Dopod 838 Pro still no luck till now. I've give up on that. Only nokia works well in internet phone & is very clear. I was impress by it's conversation. Anyway good luck in your VoIP.

I have Skype runing fine on my PDA2K using WIFI however it doesn't seem to work at all well when I have only a GPRS connection.
I have a Vodafone SE V800 3G/UTMS phone and had 3G data working with an IPAQ 5550 although didn't get a chance to try it with Skype before getting my PDA2K.
Unfortunately the dialup networking client option that was in the bluetooth manager on the IPAQ appears to be missing on the PDA2K. Somebody has done this before on a XDA II see http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=58&PN=1
however it looks like it is with an old version of the MS BT stack which I cannot load on to my device.
ROM ver: 1.22.00 WWE
ROM date: 10/22/04
Radio Ver: 1.06.00
Protocol ver: 1337.38
ExtROM: 1.22.162 WWE
Using broadcom BT-PPC/PE version 1.0.0 Build 3500
Any ideas.

Which GPRS service offering are you using? If you are using the bulk MediaNet from Cingular then I suspect if won't work. That GPRS connection is designed to support WAP and email only, so it only allows the use of certain ports. I don't know which ports SKYPE uses, but I don't think it's limited to Port 80.
It is Vodafone UK's mobile connect 3G/GPRS solution which on 3g is up to 384kbps download and it hands over to GPRS when outside of 3G coverage. I doesn't appear to be limited to specific ports as it works with HTTP, VPN, POP3, IMAP. There is an option to use Port 80 on the PC Skype app but I can't see that option on the pocket PC. At the moment I can't get even get my PDA2K to connect to my phone other than through a serial port. I will test Skype with a PC connected to my 3G phone to see if the data side works however it would be great for other apps if I could use the speedier 3G data connection through my PDA2K

The PDA2K is a 2.5G device - so 3G will not be possible through it.
Are you able to connect to other non-web services via your GPRS connection such as email or msn or the likes? I know with O2 you have an O2 Active connection for web/wap and Mobile Internet for everything else.
You could try to get a freeware telnet client and telnet to the skype server on port 80 to see if it can resolve and reach it - this is one way to prove if your connection will allow it.
Both O2 2.5G (PDA2k) and my Vodafone 3G connections (v800) work no problem. I have a connection from my PDA2K to my 3G phone using the 3G modem in the V800 phone across the infrared connection and Skype connects and works. I however want to use Bluetooth rather than infrared as I have to hold my v800 phone right opposite the infrared port on my PDA2K for it all to work. I can't however find a way to create a bluetooth dial up networking connection to my V800 on the PDA2K. On my IPAQ 5550 I had a Bluetooth dial-up connection to the same phone and it worked fine on 3G.
they troubleshooted that problem at some time (Bt dial up) of our BT
Greetings
GPRS is not fast enough for making a skype call. It would also cost you a *fortune* in GPRS useage charges!!
3G is find in the down direction, but for VoIP, upstream is just as important. Anyone know what Voda 3G does upstream?

I was talking on skype over GPRS yesterday. Worked flawlessly. No delay on voice and no cutting of voice.
True, with the wrong GPRS plan you run up a cost, but otherwise it works fine.
3G's major flaw is the bandwidth limitation per AP. At 2mbit it just doesn't work well in populated areas. Besides, most 3G operators frown upon VoIP and file transfers over their network, hence trying to block it. Skype is hard to block since it cleverly looks for open ports, however, that causes voice cutouts and delays.
Hah! Try T-Mobile GPRS lmao. There is no way you can use SKYPE with TMO in US. NO WAY! If someone says you can there are full of sh.. I have a PDA2K and a XDA IIs. I tested them both with GPRS and it sounds like shi.. The only way SKYPE will work with no problems is with WIFI.
Vodafone 3G here in the UK maximum upload speed is 64kbps which IMHO should be enough for SKYPE latency could be a problem though. Unfortunately no futher forward in getting my PDA2K to dial up to 3G phone using Bluetooth. Does anybody know of a cradle that can hold the PDA2K and V800 so that the infrared ports face each other
Buying an xda2s and will join soon
You might look a bit like dom jollie when walking down the street though LOL. I use a voip and sip client on my 5550 and use this by the multitude of wifi access points around London.I have a voip pbx back at the office that i connect to and make calls from(out to the real world not to just other skype users) I have tried skype over GPRS 3G and wifi and found because of the limited bandwidth it worked in lumps of seconds at a time but was not consistant enough to be able to hold a conversation for longer than a couple of seconds (via gprs - Voda uk) and 3Gwork slightly smoother but still not as consistant as on wifi. This i can only put down to congestion on the networks.. Anyway i suppose i ambiased as i have access to pbx voip remotely..Another cheap way to make calls..LOL

Folks,
I have problem with my hermes to use VoIP. 5060 port is blocked in my office(WiFi).
Strange thing is, my pc application(VoIP client software) connects without any problem. It says "You connected to the Voipbuster service using TCP". If I check use port 5060 in my pc application to connect to sip server, it acts same as my hermes.
Are there any ports or connection in VoIP since PC application connects?
Note: My hermes works perfectly in the other APs which are 5060 open.
Thanks in advance.
Voip sip - working

Question answered, thread closing..
i have a orange m3100 version of the hermes.
recently i flashed it with schaps 3.54b rom
now i can't use my wifi router/network @ home nor another wifi router/network @ work.
in fact i'm well connected, i'm sure of this because from another computer of the networks, i can ping the (static) ip of my hermes. i tried changing and changing again my ip and tested it.
but the hermes cant go on internet.
i use the right gateway and DNS in each case but no surf in pocket ie.
any solutions or other tests i can do?
in french if possible since i and my rom are in french.
thank you.
update : i made some tests :
it is nos a dns problem : i put the right gateway and dns on the smartphone but i cant get a website by typing its ip in pocket ie adress bar (other browsers dont work better) and i cant even access my router admin interface.
when i'm trying wifi with static ip or dhcp on my m3100, i can ping its ip from another computer of my networks and the smartphone responds ok, and i can see its mac adress in the connected clients on my router config screen. But the smartphone can't ping anyone.
i asked a friend who told me that the proxy (192.168.10.100 :8080 ) used for the connection to orangeworld in gprs/edge is also used when i try to connect via wifi and that is why it cant connect nowhere because my personal network is configured differently and without a proxy.
if i delete the proxy my connections will cost me more when i use gprs.
if i configure my router like this (192.168.10.xxx) with a proxy on 8080 it could work but only on my network and not @ my workplace or somewhere else where network params will be different.
any ideas or solutions ?
wow ! so many people trying to help :/
well i found a temporary solution to my problem, probably not the best one but the best i can do by myself so if someone wants to help : thank you
it was actually a proxy problem.
i looked in the registry and found a key where the proxy adress was detailed : 192.168.10.100:8080
i have exported this value as "proxon.reg"
then i modified the value by deleting its content and i exported the empty value as "proxoff.reg"
now i have my "proxy switch".
before activating the wifi and starting ie, i lauch "proxoff.reg" which clean the registry for the proxy data and magic : ie connects fine.
and when i want tu surf via my provider orange, i desactivate the wifi and launch "proxon.reg" which restore the correct proxy data to the registry. and i can surf on gprs/edge.
all this is fine when i switch off the phone functions in the comm manager.
but now i need someone to tell me how i can automatize this for the wifi and edge connections because if the wifi signal gets too weak, i dont want my phone to switch to the gsm when the proxy is desactivated.
i hope you can understand my english.
please help.
In the last version of BatteryStatus (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751) you can find, among the others stuffs, the "Disable Proxy for WiFi" option (see the Tools tab)... Maybe more simple than "regg-in" on and off? I'm ok with it, try and see if it's ok for you also...
Bye!
hey kamaal i just downloaded the batterstatus program but im not seeing the "Disable Proxy for WiFi" option in the Tools tab
***edit:
sorry i downloaded the extended version beta and it was there

hello i have a vonage account that i never use can the htc s 620 be configured to work [wi fi] using my vonage account this would be exelent since i have lost my bb anywhere by upgraging to 6.1
many thanks in advance
Since the s620 does not have 3g I have not considered internet dependent applications (ish). That being said it might be easier to get skype running instead.

i have instaled skype but never got it to work any ideas
We have SIP server located in LAN in office, I want to register to it using wi-fi. Fring does not work on my HTC P3300. It just crashes my mobile then need a restart only by removing battery, so not useful at all. I have tried SIP client on nokia N95 and worked fine. Need similar kind of SIP client for HTC P3300.
any clue guyss....
I've used fring, wengo and other VoIP applications (including modded driver to work integrated VoIP) and they work good...
The real problem is in WiFi that doesn't work in stand-by and in using external loudspeaker.
are u using fring on HTC P3300?.. if yes, why it is crashing my phone and not yours

I don't know, I've a P3300 with WinMobile6.1 (19702.1.0.2) ita and .NET3.5
Are you sure you have not installed other applications that conflict with fring?

I don't think is a problem if SIP server is in lan or in wan, the difference is only in setting the right IP for the server...
If the server is standard, the port you use is 5060...
I use Skype for low cpu, and it work very well with the original headset of P3300. I connect to internet through ADSL wifi in my house.
the setup is different here. i do not want to use it for personal use. Its in the office, where we have IP phones for everyone. SIp server is in LAN where we register and make internal and external calls.
I was not have .net 3.5.. will install it and try
Sorry, but I didn't understand the problem of which you discussed
I understood it after rereading the posts, but I never use a client for SIP server for VOIP calls.
SIP server is located in LAN, so there is no need to dial out anywhere in the internet. I require a SIP cleint which can allow me to insert my user credentials and locala SIP server IP address, Just like N95 SIP client if u know. frng and other softwares routes SIP info from internet to the SIP server but for that SIP server has to be located to internet which is not the case in here.
my credentials wud be something like this
un: xxx
pw: xxx
SIP server: [email protected]
port: 5060
registrar/proxy: 192.168.x.x (optional)
this is to register to SIP server from PDA. After this i wud require a simple cleint to dial.. thats all
