Hi,
I'v just woke up and noticed, that my program memory went from 25mb to 3,5mb. My phone was connected to my laptop and active sync for the whole night. I'm using Artemis Vanilla 2.0. I'v had the same problem with Artemis Vanilla 1.0 before. Is it normal, that Activesync acts like that ? No other programs running. Anyone had the same problem ? One and only solution was to soft reset (closeall and hibernate app doesn't help) the phone.

Ditto... Mine's just been gradually eating memory until I soft reset. I thought it was Icontact or mortscript, so I've remved them and am monitoring the situation...
Not sure if this is helpful..but i am using Tomcodon V4.2 rom and i experience gradual decrease in memory.. usually from 22MB to 15MB.. running hibernate usually frees up anywhere between 500kb to 1MB. I haven't seen it dip below 10MB so far

Yes, I have the same issue. Active Sync seems to suck down a bunch of memory that cannot be recovered using hibernate or clear temp. Also, stuff doesn't work right if I try to disconnect while it's syncing or just in general after I disconnect. I'm to the point where I avoid connecting to it at all if I don't have to. And I use WM5 Storage instead most of the time. When I do connect to Active sync, I notice that it randomly trys to synchonize even when there's no changes made. Slows down the desktop as well as the phone. It's a real pain in the ass! I hate Active Sync now. I now just soft reset everytime I disconnect from Active Sync. I never had these problems with WM2003 - kept my ipac connected to it all night and it never tried to sync until I actually changed something. So I think the problem is with WM6 Active Sync.
Oh my goodness! Just noticed that my title now says "Senior Member" after my 100th post. I had to mark this one
I had the same problem with Vanilla 1.0 or Fracoons ROMS, but with Vanilla 2.0 I have no problem - after two days and several ActiveSync sessions there is still about 23-25 MB of available pgm memory
Well, just came back from work - 9h. My phone was in standby mode, 2 phone calls, memory : 23.38 mb, battery 94%. So it looks like Activesync problem.
Storage Memory Critically Low...
Hi! I think I'm having a similar problem.
I've been using my Hermes for almost 3 months. And I use the Oxios Hibernate and Oxios CloseApps to clear my cache from time to time. And I will reboot the unit every day or two. I practically don't save anything on My Device at all. All my music, video clips and photos are stored in my 2GB storage card.
But today, just out of the blue, I got a warning message to say that my Storage Memory is Critically Low.
When I checked under Memory, I noted that almost the entire 47MB Storage Memory has been used up. I had only 0.68MB left in My Device.
I've tried to do a number of Hibernate and CloseApps in a row. But that doesn't work at all.
Has anyone found any solution yet? Please share!
Thanks!
John
Well, basically try to do a hard reset , because I'm talking about different memory. I'v ment "Program memory", some cain of phone RAM, not the "Storage memory". 3 months is a long time and maybe your internet browser cashe files are taking to much space etc, etc...

You're in the wrong forum but I think you need to download ClearTemp application. Do you use songs for ringtones? How many files do you have on the device? ClearTemp will clear all your cache memory on the device, but there's something else going on here. At least that's a start.

Since I upgraded to WM6 I've been prompted several times when running any intensive apps (such as TomTom or CoPilot sat nav) that the storage space is getting low. I've tried to clear as much off the device as possible but there isn't much on it anyway! The stats are currently as below:
Storage: Total - 55.59MB, In Use - 9.72MB, Free - 45.87MB
Program: Total - 47.90MB, In Use - 23.62MB, Free - 24.28MB
This is once the device has been booted and with no applications run so I don't understand it really.
Another issue I've experienced is I've got the BatteryStatus today plugin running and have overclocked the device up to 286MHz. On WM5 TomTom would run fine being charged from the 12v socket in my car but since upgrading to WM6 it now gets very hot and causes the device to crash (white screen and doesn't respond to anything other than removing the battery) It'll run ok if I slow the clock speed down to 201MHz but it still gets very hot running off the car's power. Is this a WM6 issue or something else?
I'm very happy with the upgrade but it does seem to have caused a few annoying issues tbh.

Which WM6 Rom are you using?
Sorry should have stated, I'm using the nbh file Pof released. Its listed in Bepe's German -> WWE WM6 thread.
I have a problem that applications that run in background are sometimes killed automatically.
When an application is running, I start another application and after closing the second application the first application is closed too.
For example:
OZI-Explorer is running. I start the camera to take a picture. While the camera is running I can see that the GPS-LED (OZI uses GPS) stops flashing. So OZI Explorer was killed in background. After closing the camera OZI-Explorer is gone.
Sometimes I only run a game like vexed. S2U comes up to lock the screen. After Unlock vexed is closed.
Program memory is not the problem. I have more than 13M sometimes near 20M when more than 1 application is running and the problem occurs.
I found out 2 things:
- Direct after soft reset the problem does not occur, but after a while of
usage.
- all WM6.1 roms with a higher build number than Artemis touch 4.02 have this problem.
In 4.02 or lower the problem never occurs.
Does anyone have this problem too?
Andre
это не глюк,это фича
Keep an eye on free ram! even 13 mb is not enough for smooth running. especially for gps.
when the level of it is low, OS close applications automatically.
With Artemis Touch 4.02 I had less program memory than now, but the problem NEVER occured.
I use sashimi - so on every ROM I use, the installed programs are the same.
Sometimes the problem occurs with 20M free program memory.
I have no idea anymore.
I like the new rom from Tom (Oops) cause it's faster than 4.02, but I think I've to return to 4.02.

Andre
I found something:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\TastManager\EnableAutoKill = 1
Can this be the problem? I'll set the value to 0 and test.
br
Andre
I think I have it.
With search after EnableAutoKill I found this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373128&page=2

tom' rom have a pagepool less than on vanilla - this can make a problem on his roms....
Problem solved
The problem is solved. It's really the terrible HTC Task manager.
If Autokill is enabled the task manager kills background applications if the free memory is under 9MB.
The pagepool is not the Problem cause Vanilla has the smallest PP size (5MB) - only indirect cause the free memory could be higher ;-).
I watched that sometimes a windows thread uses for only a very few seconds much memory. The free program menory fells from 18 suddenly to 9MB and returns immediately to 18MB. These few seconds are enough for the taskmanager to kill applications, but you don't realize that the memory was low.
After disabling this feature the system runs optimal.

Andre
Folks,
Does anyone know how to disable WinMo's Autoclose feature on the Rhodium? It seems as soon as I have a large number of programs running on Stock Tmobile WinMo 6.1 it starts to automatically close down some, which is a problem.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
This can be done with Advanced Config tool. Under "HTC Task Manager" you can disable "Autokill".
However, I have no doubts that this is a bad idea. Your programs are closing because they're using up your available RAM. So if you disable autokill, your device will most likely just lock up and you'll have to soft reset.
Thank you for the note, has anyone tried to disable this function, will it really freeze the device under high usage?
I tried to open as many application as possible and got up to around 80% CPU usage before the application started closing automatically, but I feel I can squeeze more out of the device by disable AutoKill.
Any thoughts?

Haha, seems like you might want to talk with this guy.
It also happens with my Hermes and Raphael..
It also happens with my Hermes and Raphael..
My Hermes (Dopod 838 pro) running official WM6 ROM
My Raphael (HTC Touch Pro) running stock WM6.1 ROM (Version 1.9)
It's a big problem, I can't keep my Twitter, downloader, and Messenger app to run at the background..
I have disabled the "auto kill" in HTC Task Manager with "Andvanced Config"..
I also have change the "memory thereshold" to 0 MB, then tried 1 MB, but the problem still there..
And this guy.. (me..) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=575663
Yeah, sucks. I dunno if the Rhodium sudddenly launches a bunch of programs every X minutes? Where would that be besides in the notifications? I have lots of calendar entries, so kinda difficulty to look through that on my Tilt 2.
I can get mine down to 23-24 processes (minus a few standard things, but plus arielbattery, s2u2, a couple misc things) so one would THINK that gives you 8 or so free slots so if you're just running 2-3 more things no problem but that's NOT the case.. It seems like no matter what if you're running a few 'large' things, something goes.
In my case, I run Flexmail from 0800 to 23:30 and if I run 1-2 more things, Flexmail exits. Very annoying. I once wrote a Mortscript to detect this and re-run Flexmail, but guess what happens... Flexmail runs, one of the other programs exit. Sigh.
At one point I disabled autokill, reduced some memory cache stuff, etc... Nothing helps unless I exit several of my background apps and free up more slots.
Anyone know of anything that could monitor background processes, like battlog does battery info? Like it'd be interesting to see a snapshot every 1s of number of processes running or something.. be interesting to see if it's 22,22,22,30,22,22 all of a sudden.
BTW, I don't run TF3D, I run my Today screen stuff I did in 6.1.. PocketPlus, PhoneAlarm, GPSToday, PocketWeather, TodayAgenda..
I never had these problems on my Tilt, as I describe in my thread above.. With the same number of processes at 'idle', but with only 25-40M of ram free vs my Tilt 2 at 70-85M free my Tilt 2 drops programs constantly.
If I didn't see Flexmail exit (not *crash*) I'd think programs are crashing and there's some serious OS bug or something but Flexmail clearly cleanly exits..
Very effing annoying, I'm hoping someone can figure this out at some point. Perhaps I should try a cooked ROM, although otherwise I have no problems with my current ROM.
So I installed the RadarWeather app hoping to get a cooler/more informative weather screen. A few weird things happened:
1. Every soft reset after installing it gave me a manila.exe error report.
2. Overall memory usage went way down (SCORE!!)
3. Had occasional "NewsBreak" error ("Access is denied").
The app wasn't as cool as I'd hoped, and it wouldn't show a radar screen for my city, so I uninstalled it. After uninstall, the soft reset manila errors and the NewsBreak errors are all gone (and memory usage has gone back up again . . . what is it with the inherent memory leak in this phone?!?!), but now I'm having a recurrence of a problem from a week ago that required a hard reset to fix. The word "Messaging" will replace "Start" in the task bar, and the clock will be frozen at some earlier time in the day. A simple touch of the screen clears the problem, but it's annoying.
Anyone have any experience with this?
And why does my memory usage just slowly increase throughout the day even when I do nothing on the phone? After a soft reset, my ram usage is at 51% (that in itself seems odd to me, but this is my 1st smart phone). After only a few hours, it's sitting at 69% used. Even if I literally do not touch the phone during that time. It just sits there eating up memory.
Stock rom. Only a few apps and minor reg tweaks have been installed.
Thoughts?
Hi,
I'm using HTC Desire Z about 3 days but I have a serious issue.
My phone sometimes (f.e. if its screen locked for a long time) doesn't respond to me. I'm trying to open it with power button, no response. First when I saw this, I thought because of low battery but when I try to recharge still no response.
The phone only works if I remove battery for 3-5 seconds and insert again.
I have no clue what (or which program) does that.
I'm using stock rom 2.2.1. Here is my widgets: Agenda, messages, friend stream, watch with 8 shortcuts, bookmarks (visual one), gReader Pro, Grooveshark, PowerAMP, Radio.
Also I installed some other installed applications: Youtube, simple Last.FM scrobbler, Lyrics APP, Advanced Task Manager, Diversion, NASA App, Wikipedia, Google SKY, Zaytung (Turkish site app, like news site), Facebook for Android, Tunewiki, Kindle, Connectbot, Meebo IM, Alchemy, Angry Birds, MoboPlayer, RockPlayer, IMDB, Foursquare, Goggles, Skype, Dropbox, Barcode Scanner, WhatsApp Messenger, Camera360, MangaWatcher, PaperCamera, Photaf, Piacas Tool, Raging Thunder 2, Wifi File Explorer.
I'm using pattern lock for screen lock.
One last thing, this happened after I forgot my phone at charge for 7-8 hours. But this is its 2nd charge. And after charge I've transfer some data to phone (I've 8gig sd card, now there is approx. 32mb free at SD, 818MB free at internal storage). Maybe I should remove some files from my SD Card?
That's all. What can I do?
Thanks.
are you rooted, and over or under clocking?
Your SDcard being almost full shouldn't be any kind of issue. What kind of free phone storage do you have? And what amount of free RAM do you have when your phone is just sitting at a homescreen?
If you're not overclocked or rooted, it sounds like you might be looking at some sort of either super poorly coded app (or combination of apps) thats crashing your phone while its sleeping, or you have a hardware defect

No, like I said before I'm using stock rom and I do nothing except installing app and transferring some files (music, video etc. to SD card)
32mb free at SD, 818MB free at internal storage. Now, I opened advanced task manager and I have 111M free RAM. And I see there is a lot of application running. (including skype, whatsapp, grooveshark etc.)
I read something like that from another phone. They do factory data reset and It fixes that issue. I didn't try but they say.

Thanks for the info. So if your phone is completely stock and its crashing while sleeping, it looks to be an issue with an app or bad combo of apps. You can try to troubleshoot on your own by uninstalling or monitoring apps, or you can always do a factory reset and start over, hoping to fix the issue. I personally would try to troubleshoot some recently installed apps or large changes you've made before you decide to bother with a full factory reset.
Also on a side note, ditch the advanced task killer. Its not necessary on anything over Android 2.1, and drains more resources and can actually cause problems. If you want to know what's going on with your apps, use something like Watchdog Lite (which I use), that monitors apps and informs you if they're misbehaving above normal levels, but never kills or changes any apps without your approval.

Yes, I'm thinking on monitoring applications but is there a way to look the report after phone crashes? Trying Watchdog.
Let's try that way.
Thanks.
Now, I'm using watchdog for 10 hours. Archive Viewer (normally) and News exceeded threshold. I looked at News. (actually it is Google reader) It tries to sync my Google reader account and in my account there are a lot of items (and a lot of unread ones, subscribed to 35 site, each one has min. 1000 unread item and min. (unread count)*3 read items, I suppose)
Maybe this application causes this problem. I closed syncing (I'm already using gReader) and I hope this will fix my problem.

Yea that sounds like it might be an issue (but you never know). Basically what can be happening is that its overwhelming the phone while sleeping and its crashing, and there's not enough CPU power to turn on the screen or wake up.
Also, don't know of any way to get a log of your crashes without root. Someone else can chime in if they know.

Also, when phone crashed I tried to call my phone number and the phone doesn't ring (it says can not be reached). So, It totally closes the phone after crashes. But, the interesting thing is I'm unable to open with its power button. I think this is because phone's fast boot option is enabled. That may can explain why power button doesn't work and removing and inserting battery works.
Hi again,
I talked with another desire z owner who has that problem. He said that if you use navigation and turn off gps sattelite from settings and lock screen. Phone crashes. I tried that. And phone crashed .
So, I'm planning to ask for replacement from store.
What else can I do?
