Hi,
I'v just woke up and noticed, that my program memory went from 25mb to 3,5mb. My phone was connected to my laptop and active sync for the whole night. I'm using Artemis Vanilla 2.0. I'v had the same problem with Artemis Vanilla 1.0 before. Is it normal, that Activesync acts like that ? No other programs running. Anyone had the same problem ? One and only solution was to soft reset (closeall and hibernate app doesn't help) the phone.

Ditto... Mine's just been gradually eating memory until I soft reset. I thought it was Icontact or mortscript, so I've remved them and am monitoring the situation...
Not sure if this is helpful..but i am using Tomcodon V4.2 rom and i experience gradual decrease in memory.. usually from 22MB to 15MB.. running hibernate usually frees up anywhere between 500kb to 1MB. I haven't seen it dip below 10MB so far

Yes, I have the same issue. Active Sync seems to suck down a bunch of memory that cannot be recovered using hibernate or clear temp. Also, stuff doesn't work right if I try to disconnect while it's syncing or just in general after I disconnect. I'm to the point where I avoid connecting to it at all if I don't have to. And I use WM5 Storage instead most of the time. When I do connect to Active sync, I notice that it randomly trys to synchonize even when there's no changes made. Slows down the desktop as well as the phone. It's a real pain in the ass! I hate Active Sync now. I now just soft reset everytime I disconnect from Active Sync. I never had these problems with WM2003 - kept my ipac connected to it all night and it never tried to sync until I actually changed something. So I think the problem is with WM6 Active Sync.
Oh my goodness! Just noticed that my title now says "Senior Member" after my 100th post. I had to mark this one
I had the same problem with Vanilla 1.0 or Fracoons ROMS, but with Vanilla 2.0 I have no problem - after two days and several ActiveSync sessions there is still about 23-25 MB of available pgm memory
Well, just came back from work - 9h. My phone was in standby mode, 2 phone calls, memory : 23.38 mb, battery 94%. So it looks like Activesync problem.
Storage Memory Critically Low...
Hi! I think I'm having a similar problem.
I've been using my Hermes for almost 3 months. And I use the Oxios Hibernate and Oxios CloseApps to clear my cache from time to time. And I will reboot the unit every day or two. I practically don't save anything on My Device at all. All my music, video clips and photos are stored in my 2GB storage card.
But today, just out of the blue, I got a warning message to say that my Storage Memory is Critically Low.
When I checked under Memory, I noted that almost the entire 47MB Storage Memory has been used up. I had only 0.68MB left in My Device.
I've tried to do a number of Hibernate and CloseApps in a row. But that doesn't work at all.
Has anyone found any solution yet? Please share!
Thanks!
John
Well, basically try to do a hard reset , because I'm talking about different memory. I'v ment "Program memory", some cain of phone RAM, not the "Storage memory". 3 months is a long time and maybe your internet browser cashe files are taking to much space etc, etc...

You're in the wrong forum but I think you need to download ClearTemp application. Do you use songs for ringtones? How many files do you have on the device? ClearTemp will clear all your cache memory on the device, but there's something else going on here. At least that's a start.
Yesterdag I changed my screen protector on my TP-2. Because I didn't want my phone to go off during replacement, I switched it off and removed the battery.
When I restarted my phone, everything worked a lot faster than before. Internet performance was faster and I had GPS connection in a matter of seconds (indoors near a window). I had noticed that my phone had become slower in the past weeks. Soft resets had no effect.
I have my phone switched on 24/7, but now I get the impression that it's not a bad thing to switch it off for about 5 minutes every now and then.
Has anyone experienced the same behavour? (I use a Touch Pro 2, with a T-Mobiel ROM in the Netherlands).
Thanks for your replies.
Regards,
Rob.
nope, 'cause I know that you have "hidden" processes running in the background and by turning off the phone, you're just resetting everything so that there are no new applications running in the bg.
a program called 'arkswitch' allows you to close programs and free space on your tp2 without necessarily needing to reset it.
I did some soft resets, after I noticed my phone was getting slower. That had no effect. Only after a longer period of complete shutdown, the performance was back to normal. So other background apps couldn't have caused it.
But I'll see what I can find with 'arkswitch'
[Solved] I think
I use S2U2 to lock my phone. I had set the option 'full screen battery' to 'charging'. After I disabled this option and a soft reset, my GPS was up and running in a matter of seconds (even indoors). For some reason, this setting in S2U2 affects GPS detection and performance of my phone.
Perhaps someting to look into for the develloper.
So it looks like my problem is solved.
my defy is just 2 weeks old and i have started experiencing trememdous lags....
its 2.2.2 running , kernel is 2.6.32.9-g0671d13 , just in case it could help in finding a solution...
1. the screen goes off on its own half of the time (even though the time out is of 1 minute) and even when i unlock it , it again goes off.. ITS REALLY FRUSTRATING
2. i have just 1 game installed, but even then the phone lags a lot, the game lags and so does the entire phone..!
3. the internet isnt getting activated (i guess thats a network problem though), anyone with a similar problem!?
please post replies as soon as possible..
well i too experience the same, mine is 30 days old...
I have disabled gps/data/wifi/auto brightness to get max battery yet it fails to go beyond 1 day even if i use max an hour of wifi.
screen going blank on it own is frustrating
moto widget for time and date does not keep current time
lag in touch even after running ATK on auto aggressive mode
defy is running indian 2.2.2
p.s. any idea if i can get data on first date of use for battery? I somehow feel a new one should give more standby life.
my phone does last around 1 1/2 days with an hours gaming....and it does keep the current date and time (as of now)...
mine too lags inspite of the ATK being on autokill.... even the homescreen takes time to load after pressing the home button ...
Might want to try getting rid of ATK.
Tasks/services run for a reason on android. When something kills them, they'll start back up, causing more cpu and memory usage than if you'd just leave the service running.
Run for a reason, but not necessarily a good one. Stock motorola/vodafone firmware that I had on my defy would run many completely irrelevant processes - VF360, newsandweather, amazon mp3, etc. Task killing isn't the solution because they just start up again.
The best way to get best performance from the phone is to install CM7.
You could try to wipe in stock recovery. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982, point witch says Froyo laggy. You will lose all data.
If you find it laggy afterwards, you will never be happy with the preferments on stock froyo. Then try CM7. You will be able to downgrade to send it to warranty as I also did this. It is quite a difference.

Is it going off while you are holding it by the top, with a finger on the left of the speaker hole?
If it is the case, it is because you are masking the proximity sensor. And if you have the "Pocket detection" feature activated, it will cause this annoying stuff...
Well not to worry even mine was laggy before, i had just installed 2-3 apps. I had to restart my phone at least once then i installed cm7 rc1.5 Now its very fast and i dont remember the last time when my phone was lagging and freezing.
I guess it has something to do with the froyo and motoblur on defy that makes it laggy.
You have to have get rid of stock froyo after owning a defy.. thats the truth..
I did a readup on the ATK stuff and the excerpt from the and dev documents... well since the read i have uninstalled all task killers... (kept one just in case with all auto actions disabled)
I do hope the lag issue is resolved after moving to CM7/Jboogie3 etc
however the battery issue is a major hurdle for now as one day is too less, i probably have to take it to the service center for a checkup and/or claim warranty on battery. till them no flashing for me...
att: patriiice - even when the proximity sensor is not covered, i do experience screen blanks, almost immediately asa the power button is pressed to wake the device.
The lag presented on the Defys running Froyo is a "super nice feature" by Motorola it has an easy fix tho.
Its caused by the VM consuming all memory, all its needed is adjusting the amount of MB the VM should leave free.
There are a few ways to it:
1) Run a terminal emulator, or use GScript Lite to run this:
su
vm.min_free_kbytes=8192
(Not permanent, need to be ran every time you reboot)
2) Get Sysctl from market and do it from there.
3) Get SetVSel and do it from there.
Lag
I have that problem to. The bad thing is that i can`t answer call during the lag, it says i have my phone is closed or i don`t have signal. I`ve installed Temp+CPU and during lag it shows that the proc is running at 100%. Memory has all the time, around 130 min and 230 max. Closed all programs one by one, no change. I restart the phone and everything is running smooth and it lasts max 1 day. i have stock rom 2.2.2. (please excuse my spelling)

I also use 2.2.2 stock and my defy runs without lag... you should consider to root the phone and freeze some unnecessary stock-preinstalled apps like Kindle, Voice command, etc... the ones you will never use. I freezed about 20 apps and there is no lag at all. (I even froze Maps, Streets, SIM toolkit, and some others)

My Defy was lagging until I rooted and installed SetVSel. Now its running as breeze with Stock Indian Froyo.
stock froyo is not good but it shouldn't be that bad. there were some faulty battery issue that i have heard of before too. but in your case your defy might even be faulty. so i would suggest you get it replaced or fixed under warranty first before flashing any custom rom.
lag on defy
with rootunistaller i`ve frozen skype and yahoo and i haven`t had any lag since. If i want 2 use them "defrost" and when i`m finished i just "freeze" back the app

Easy as that...
Lag on defy
Nope. I was wrong after 3 days of normal proc usage it started again. I`ve installed OS Monitor (free on market) and there was a process the ate all my resources: "DRM Protected Content Storage". Selected watch log and there was something like "enter, delete update, uri: content://media/external/audio/media/1 ../44.... /254..."
This process is searching ur phone for media, video audio and looked like it was stucked at this folder. I`ve searched the phone for that folder but couldn't find it so i just killed the app in OS Monitor. After the process restarted at log was showing "media search finished:182 audio files found and 1 video found". Looks like that's my problem and maybe yours to. Cheers mates
so I might visit the service center this weekend to have my battery life checked.. one day life with all wifi/data/gps disabled and below average voice calls is not acceptable at all.
what is stock recovery?? and will it void my warranty???
thanks a lot guys for ur replies!!
but the thing is my phone has become even slower!!
when i first switch on the phone i have around 240MB free RAM but just after an hour everything becomes too slow, even opening of the menu! and after 2-3 hours of usage it keeps on reducing and finally reaches as low as 40MB .....
what could be causing this??
i have android assistant by which i clear cache, ram still it doesnt help....
After my original phone went into bootloops after the marshmallow update, I got a replacement within 1 day (thanks, AT&T, they really surprised me with customer service on this one). Unfortunately, my replacement has been full of issues. For starters, I used to get maybe 1% per hour max battery drain with idle and screen off with location and sync on (would be 97-99% in the morning if it was 100% before sleep), but now it is 5+% per hour, same battery as before, even switching it with my spare, no difference. I have Greenify installed and have a decent number of things greenified, but I don't want to have to also turn off location and sync just to get still worse battery life than I had before. A factory reset did not fix the issue. Google Play Services seems to inexplicably be taking more battery than phone idle now but it is not enough to be explaining this battery issue fully.
Also, I get lag in various applications, including pre-installed system applications. Most noticeably, Chrome and Chrome Beta have the same issue of freezing 3-10 seconds before the page is completely loaded which is an extreme nuisance. Reinstalling the apps and clearing the cache/data did not help. Various system applications run with lag too. I moved some applications to the SD card and the settings app was lagging so terribly it crashed a few times.
Any ideas to my phone woes?
Over the past few months, I've noticed that some standard functions of my phone routinely fail and no longer seem to work properly until I reboot and/or wait a certain number of days until they magically start to work again (only to break again).
1) The auto-adjust sensor is waaaaay off at gauging ambient light. Whenever I'm in bright, sunny environments (like outdoors or by a window with sun coming through it), the brightness and backlight adjust to the lowest level so that it looks like my screen isn't on. The opposite happens whenever I'm in a room with low or no lighting, making it look like a supernova is in my hand and hurting my eyes. In the past, the sensor would eventually adjust to correctly accommodate the lighting, but now it just doesn't.
2) A large number of apps that are set up for fingerprint login immediately give me an error notification that I've exceeded my fingerprint login attempts whenever I open them, forcing me to instead log in with a pin number. Closing and reopening these apps doesn't fix the error, rebooting doesn't fix it, and clearing the app's cache and/or data doesn't fix it. I just have to wait it out until it works again, which is usually 2 days to 1 week after I've last used the app.
3) Holding the Power + Homes button no longer takes screenshots. I can fix this one by rebooting, but eventually this combo stops working again.
4) Several apps, specifically Google Maps and Chrome, will often crash up to 3 times before they're able to stay open and work. I also routinely hard crash out of everything whenever a foreground app I'm currently using (like Chrome) crashes, which causes everything open in the background (like my music or YouTube app that are playing) to also crash.
5) My battery level is stuck at 69% and won't drop. For the past 4 hours, Android OS, GSAM and BetterBatteryStats all show that I have 69% percent battery remaining and continue to show that percentage even though I have nearly 1 hour SoT. I can only get 2 hrs 15 min of SoT before my battery runs out, so I know this isn't right. This battery thing just started today.
Why is everything breaking?!? Since December, I've not installed any new apps, system updates or really traveled anywhere. Before I flashed the ROM I'm on (LeeDroid v5.2.3-R151) last November or so, I did a full wipe and did not restore any apps or settings so that everything was fresh.

Since you're having multiple, seemingly unrelated issues, there is no way for anyone to tell why it's happening in your specific case. Why don't you try dirty flashing your leedroid rom, and if that still fails, start from scratch?
