I've dropped my XDA IIs on the sidewalk - and ... well it does not look very good now - the display is broken - the rest seems fine. I'm trying to buy a new display but there are more models on the market - and there seems to be with the generation of my device.
How do i find out what generation my device is ?

under the battery is also a sticker
it tells you the model and manufacure as well as imei etc etc . the board type IEH20B and such is on that sticker.
or if the device is still usable other then the screen ie will connect and activesync. there's a program called my mobiler or just use the wm power tool activesync display that lets you see and control it frol you pc. and you can look at the details that way to determine the model.
hope this helps.
It's PH20B - so how do i find my board id ?
On the other thread the guys said it should be 0X5 or 0x6. Is there any table where i can pull this out from ?

which thread were you looknig at, as the part number is listed on the sticker as P/N at the bottom of it. which should be unique to that handset
or would be printed on the PCB itself, also LCd's have a sticker usually as well on the back of them that have part nuber as they are never manufactured by the phone manufacture

re: Screen died? but green & red button lights on
Hi
I have a pda2K i-mate (HTC Blue Angel) but today it looks like the backlight died or its gone into some strange stealth mode
This problem was not caused by ROM upgrade etc, but possibly caused by slight shock (see below).
SYMPTOMS
Currently the screen is blank - no back light and no writing
I try power button - short press, long hold - still not working.
After soft reset
red (end call) and green (answer call) button lights come on
then 2 high pitch beeps 'de-neer'
then 2 lights off
press red key, both lights on
keypad lights works
after few secs idle lights off
press red, then normal pitch beep
After hard reset -
same as for soft
does that sound normal after soft/ hard reset?
but there is no picture at all - couldnt see splash screen or any flicker etc.
Do you think it's hardware or software fault?
or is this maintenance mode or something?
Read somewhere red light on constantly means defective battery, but is that the charge light? or end call light?
Can i change brightness somewhere? (without needing to see screen).
I've taken the battery out a few times, stick it back in after 10 or so mins, doesn't work.
will leave out over night if not sorted by then.
CAUSE:
Lying in bed, getting phone from jacket which was on chair
phone in pocket of jacket, picked up jacket, phone swung down and hit side of bed (not too hard) - pretty flush (but padded) i guess so maybe combination of buttons pressed simultaneously
active sync 4.1 works (managed to do full backup- won't use i know)
after hard resets its now on guest partnership
couldn't get mtty to work with it (after disabling activesync) - just said CLIENT CLIENT after pressing USB mode (didn't see WCE..USB...option)
(probably cuz not in bootloader mode - record button + power/standby + reset?)
Update: Got to type some commands in but dont think PDA was properly connected (no chargin light), or didnt see change in results.
downloaded latest ROM updates from club imate when try to run says wrong country id. Tried Arabic version too, also wrong country id.
Update: Tried standard partnership active sync connected then Rom update - PDA2k_WWE_14000_176_11200
Error 120: COUNTRY ID ERROR
DEVICE INFO
This unit is replacement from UK insurance company so not sure where they got it from. Guess what - insurance just ran out (they cancelled as claimed twice already!)
It's in pretty good newish condition - opened box March 2006, i think it had WMedia player 10 so guess is quite up to date, but can't get device data as can't execute file on ppc without seeing screen (unless other way).
I had chat session with club imate support
they asked for my IMEI, serial number and contact details. i think they told me to send to service centre or something but got a phone call at end, and the session timed out, great (one of those days!)
Any idea if it would be under warranty? Original purchase over 1 year, but this is a new unit from March 2006
How long do repairs take with imate - Ashford Kent centre?
Today has been a nightmare, i'm one of those people who doesn't eat / sleep / work properly until PC or PPC is fixed (sure most ppl here are too ) . I rely on both PC's for my e-commerce business. Normaly i find answers in forums, but today i've been going in circles...
spent over 7 hours searching so far, trial and error etc and can't find the exact solution, it's been fun but this permanent frown and dodgy gut is not very pleasant now - (sorry for moaning and rambling )
Thanks in advance for any tips or pointers
PS. I'm new here, great forum!
Might check out WM5 upgrade if get above working :S
the connectors come loose inside.
the connectors come loose inside.
It takes quite a bit of force to pull the screen ribbon connector off of the main board... you must have whacked the phone pretty good for this to happen. I guess if the backlight is not comming on anymore, then it could have happened. If this happened, you are in luck. Otherwise, it is something else.

Nice pics, don't mean to sound pedantic but that's a CDMA NM8 harrier in your guide not a GSM NM8 blueangel. Althought the overall shape is the same the sim card holder ( blanked off in the harrier ) is in a different place and the blueangel does not have a flash unit above the camera. The backup battery is socketed directly to the board and not on a fly lead also. But hey, all the screws are in the same places!

DOH! You're right. I guess I found something that looked similar to the Audiovox PPC6600/VX6600 Harrier(CDMA) Blueangel(GSM) or whatever the heck they are calling this thing!
I figure the BA crowd can still use the info because there are many similarities (however, I can't get back into the page to edit, says 'page not found', using IE6)
Update:
Thanks guys for the pics much appreciated,
might still have to open it, but i thought i'd try the warranty route first.
So after getting an invoice for the my third replacement insurance unit (now faulty) i sent the PDA2K to the imate repair centre.
Few days later got a quote of £410.35 to repair the mainboard. (9 pounds to get it sent back with no repair)
Out of Warranty Reason
illegal Unlock
I called the repair centre and they said the warranty was rendered invalid because 3rd party software was installed that turned the IMEI numbers to zeros on the mainboard.
Now what does that mean?
a) Insurance company phone shop gave me a dodgy phone?
b) i installed some software that somehow did that (not that i'm aware of)
c) the repair centre just came up with a crap reason and high bill to stitch me up
I've sent a fax to insurance company and email to imate support and will see what happens.
Anyone had a similar reason for out of warranty?
What does it mean when IMEI on mainboard all zeros?
Thanks again for help
Cheers
(PS Should this be a new thread now?)
One thing to throw back at them - why on earth would an i-mate device be locked in the first place for you to unlock it?
All zeros usually means the security area is corrupted. Doubt you need a new board BTW, just a flash with jtag.
Do a search for problems with SBE's repairs...
Richard
Thanks Richard will do a search,
heres what club imate had to say:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for your email and apologies for the delay caused. Regarding your query, please note that the unit was received in the service center with a null internal IMEI number which in turn void the warranty. Please note that the service center checks the device for any fault using professional tools and follow policies of the service center and their decision is final as for the warranty issue.

I have broken the LCD Screen on my orbit. I am trying to find a replacement screen via the internet - but I am getting the impression that there are are two types of screens and i don't want to waste money on the wrong one - does anyone know how to find out which variation i have without taking the thing apart?and checking the part number on the screen?
Also has anyone replaced their screen - was it relatively straightforward?

You will have to take it apart to fit the new screen any way, so you can check the part numbers then ?
Thanks - I was hoping not to go down that route - but I have done it now, found the part number and ordered the new screen. At least it has given me some experience of taking the unit apart and putting it back to gether again. ... and with mine being the O2 Orbit - the method is slightly different to that posted in the Wiki - so i will try and document the differences and add them to the site.
please share the part number and where to get the replacement
hey Thunderer64 please share the part number and where to get the replacement as my o2 orbit needs a screen replaced too.
thanks
Screen Part Number
There were a series of numbers on the screen as follows:
TX0705APAA3
043S7585249
S/N 9DYA275DS02066
P/N 60H00071-00M
I did a search on e-bay for the first number (TX0705APAA3) and found a number of sellers selling that item. Assuming that all O2 Orbits have the same screen then you should easily find one for sale on e-bay. However the only way to 100% sure is to take the phone apart (quite easily done) and check the part numbers of your screen.
Hope this helps!

Hi Guys,
I recently bought Xperia Arc S on ebay. I was actually out smarted by the listing where the warranty claimed as if it is under sony warranty but somewhere in the listing the seller cleverly mentioned it is under dealer warranty and only covers software problem. Having overlooked to see it I paid for the phone and got it delivered.
I am not very keen on the warranty but I want to know if I have bought the original model and not fake chinese copy. Is there a way to find if it is fake or cheap copy phone..
The phone has Gingerbread, The box claims its from Lund, Sweden. It came with the seal not tampered. The back of the phone where serial number is written has something like SAR & chinese symbols where we usually see the MADE IN CHINA MADE IN FINLAND Written. this phone does not have anything of that sort written but I am not able decipher what those chinese letters say.
This is my first android so not able to differentiate if this is original or fake. When I cannot the phone to PC, the Sony pc companion poped up and installed the PC suite.
also the phone has Chinese Keyboard has default, which I do not understand because if it is to be sold in Sweden then default should be Swedish. also got the HAMI and those Chinese Apps installed in the phone..
Please experts advice on how I could find if its original or copy phone... Will post pics if required.
Thanks in advance.
I may not be an expert, but sometimes the Xperia Arc does default to a chinese? (i think its more of japanese) keyboard. Best way to make sure is to contact Sony support and ask them about the serial number on the back of your phone. Pics of it would also explain better.
Heats up
Correct !! Since I do not know if that is chinese or Japanese I am also puzzled. The phone also heats up near the camera part very quickly even with no 3G or internet activity.
If I would contact sony support, Would they help even for non warranty phones. I mean phones not bought through their dealers.
first of all go to settings--about phone--.check your model number and all the other infos
you can connect your phone to pc and open the flashtools it will show your xperia model number and all that stuff((corrrect me if i am wrong))

They will help you to identify if phone is genuine or not and tell you if warranty exists.
They won't offer to repair phone or exchange.
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
take a pic of the stuffs below the battery..let us see
Pics
it shows the model number as LT18i, Android Version as 2.3.4.
I read somewhere that Arc S should have swype keyboard in messaging, I searched everywhere and could not find it. I could see Full Qwerty & 12keypad option only.
I am unable to post the link to the pics I have taken as I have post less than 10
Edit: Sony PC companion got installed and detected the phone as Sony Ericsson XPeria arc S(LT18), it requested me to update the phone to ICS 4.0 .. I chose not to because If I find this as copy phone then the seller might not accept returns.
Lost peace of mind & I wish I had read the listing properly and also wish Ebay makes some policy changes so that sellers don't easily trick by hiding important information in small letters inside the listing description.
Edit 2: Also the sync process with FB downloads all pics to my phone gallery but when I try to open these pics, the quality of the pic is so bad. it looks as if it is taken from VGA camera. also all the FB updates in Timescape have poor quality. Is this all normal ?
its ok dude.maybe that dealer got the phone from customs and selling it without bill..chill..

Thanks Arpith, so you mean to say that the phone should be genuine since it accepts PC companion automatically and tries to update to ICS.
I am also convinced but its just that I find it hard to digest as I have seen this chinese apps and messaging on the phone. I am always scared of chinese market.. Man they clown anything in this world but not sure if they can also clone Xperia just like that...
What about the FB pics in Gallery & Timescape not loading properly. How can I rectify those arpith ?
u cant really say that its fake just by looking into photos which was imported on your phone..
do one thing...take down the imei number and go to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow instructions..give all the details and it should give u the bootloader unlock code...if it gives then the imei number is valid..
u can also download Quadrant Standard and Check the phone performance and Speed

did u pay via cash/check /bank transfer/ or paypall if your fast with bank transfer u can put a hold on it if you paid cash or check its harder but if u paid with paypal take the matter up with them instead of ebay if ur within the time limit they have buyer protection aswell as seller protection and if they can they will over rule ebay in offering u a refund i had this problem buying off there and reguardless of which always was refunded
Paid through Paisapay similar to paypal. Yes I can take up the matter immediately and request for refund provided I have concrete info that this is a copy make.
So far, the test & results are positive.
1) Phones automatically installed PC companion and asks for ICS 4 update.
2) Quadrant standard test results are Ok
3) No Lag found so far
4) Able to download and install from Google Play
5) Screen Looks nice
6) Got with box seal intact
Concerns Though
1) Phone heats up very rapidly
2) Phone back has some chineese or symbols which creates doubts in my mind
3) battery not so good
4) Camera not convincing
5) Timescape doesn't load pictures properly
6) Gallery takes lot of time to refresh
7) FB pictures in gallery are blurry & low quality
Now situation is cat on the wall
Normal arcs will heat up in the top section when charging or if the processor is in use. Not a big issue.
The points from 5 onwards are not a cause for concern. Timescape background images are low res anyway.

yea u need to enter only 14 digits out of 16 digits..it was clearly mentions in the instructions which numbers to omit..anyways looking at the system info it looks like you got the original arc s..chinese may give same carbon copy of the phone but they will never give same hardware..but ur phone has the hardware of the original arc s...

Software 4.1.9 does not exist on the hox. And there is 100% not a removable sdcard on the main board ! And the hox is a unibody, there is no back cover. The housing should be one part. If you want to take off the cover you have to pop out the whole screen part on the front side.

Used Z-device test which is a great tool, it is a chinese clone, bummer, but hey it works, my HOX has the dreaded backlight problem thats why I bought this phone, I am not sure if it is worth the bother trying to repair the HOX. I should keep to my venerable HD2.
Thanks Guys

How much did you paid it ?
So I went to attach a picture to an email (Outlook for Android) and my phone rebooted. It goes to the LG splash screen and just stays there for a long time. After a while, it flashes off and right back to the splash screen. I've tried pulling the batter and removing the SD card (just in case). Nothing is working.
I stopped by the Verizon store and they said I need to ship it back for replacement. Really don't want to be without my phone that long. Anyone know how to get it back up and going? I can put it in download mode if that helps.
Just checked a few sites and found a thread here. Seems to be a "not if but when" boot loop issue with the early G4's. My serial starts with 505 and that falls in the range of devices others are having an issue with. Great. This will be the third repair in less than a year.
You're gonna need to send it back to LG. They're very nice about it and will pay for the shipping. You'll be without your G4 for a couple weeks, but it will they will replace the circuit board. I just hope you have better luck than I initially did (see my thread about LG's incompetent repair in the General section). Good luck.
dumb question, where are you locating the serial number. I have checked the box and back of the phone. Nothing with S/N or anything that looks similar.
Box only has:
imei
sku
upc
sw ver
icc id
manuf. date
dhhs code,
sim sku

Just got the email that it has been shipped back. I'm guessing "Repair Results: Swap Board (Main/RF) : Others" means they swapped the circuit board. Fingers crossed it is actually working when it arrives.

I found it on the sticker on the back of the phone under the battery.
