Hi Guys,
I recently bought Xperia Arc S on ebay. I was actually out smarted by the listing where the warranty claimed as if it is under sony warranty but somewhere in the listing the seller cleverly mentioned it is under dealer warranty and only covers software problem. Having overlooked to see it I paid for the phone and got it delivered.
I am not very keen on the warranty but I want to know if I have bought the original model and not fake chinese copy. Is there a way to find if it is fake or cheap copy phone..
The phone has Gingerbread, The box claims its from Lund, Sweden. It came with the seal not tampered. The back of the phone where serial number is written has something like SAR & chinese symbols where we usually see the MADE IN CHINA MADE IN FINLAND Written. this phone does not have anything of that sort written but I am not able decipher what those chinese letters say.
This is my first android so not able to differentiate if this is original or fake. When I cannot the phone to PC, the Sony pc companion poped up and installed the PC suite.
also the phone has Chinese Keyboard has default, which I do not understand because if it is to be sold in Sweden then default should be Swedish. also got the HAMI and those Chinese Apps installed in the phone..
Please experts advice on how I could find if its original or copy phone... Will post pics if required.
Thanks in advance.
I may not be an expert, but sometimes the Xperia Arc does default to a chinese? (i think its more of japanese) keyboard. Best way to make sure is to contact Sony support and ask them about the serial number on the back of your phone. Pics of it would also explain better.
Heats up
Correct !! Since I do not know if that is chinese or Japanese I am also puzzled. The phone also heats up near the camera part very quickly even with no 3G or internet activity.
If I would contact sony support, Would they help even for non warranty phones. I mean phones not bought through their dealers.
first of all go to settings--about phone--.check your model number and all the other infos
you can connect your phone to pc and open the flashtools it will show your xperia model number and all that stuff((corrrect me if i am wrong))

They will help you to identify if phone is genuine or not and tell you if warranty exists.
They won't offer to repair phone or exchange.
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
take a pic of the stuffs below the battery..let us see
Pics
it shows the model number as LT18i, Android Version as 2.3.4.
I read somewhere that Arc S should have swype keyboard in messaging, I searched everywhere and could not find it. I could see Full Qwerty & 12keypad option only.
I am unable to post the link to the pics I have taken as I have post less than 10
Edit: Sony PC companion got installed and detected the phone as Sony Ericsson XPeria arc S(LT18), it requested me to update the phone to ICS 4.0 .. I chose not to because If I find this as copy phone then the seller might not accept returns.
Lost peace of mind & I wish I had read the listing properly and also wish Ebay makes some policy changes so that sellers don't easily trick by hiding important information in small letters inside the listing description.
Edit 2: Also the sync process with FB downloads all pics to my phone gallery but when I try to open these pics, the quality of the pic is so bad. it looks as if it is taken from VGA camera. also all the FB updates in Timescape have poor quality. Is this all normal ?
its ok dude.maybe that dealer got the phone from customs and selling it without bill..chill..

Thanks Arpith, so you mean to say that the phone should be genuine since it accepts PC companion automatically and tries to update to ICS.
I am also convinced but its just that I find it hard to digest as I have seen this chinese apps and messaging on the phone. I am always scared of chinese market.. Man they clown anything in this world but not sure if they can also clone Xperia just like that...
What about the FB pics in Gallery & Timescape not loading properly. How can I rectify those arpith ?
u cant really say that its fake just by looking into photos which was imported on your phone..
do one thing...take down the imei number and go to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow instructions..give all the details and it should give u the bootloader unlock code...if it gives then the imei number is valid..
u can also download Quadrant Standard and Check the phone performance and Speed
as far as i know sony never use chinese behind the battery..it would be really helpful if u could upload the pics somewhere

since your phone was detected by PC suite and looking at your benchmark results
I think your phone is genuine.....Congrats
and don't follow the op advice to go to Sony Ericsson boot loader unlocking site and entering your imie,as it will void your warranty...........
Thanks Abhisheak. DId you take a look at that pic ? what do you think that SAR & symbols could possibly mean ?
Sorry !! But I already tried to enter the IMEI on the unlocking site, to my nightmare it rejected the IMEI number saying. Enter only 14 digits

did u pay via cash/check /bank transfer/ or paypall if your fast with bank transfer u can put a hold on it if you paid cash or check its harder but if u paid with paypal take the matter up with them instead of ebay if ur within the time limit they have buyer protection aswell as seller protection and if they can they will over rule ebay in offering u a refund i had this problem buying off there and reguardless of which always was refunded
Paid through Paisapay similar to paypal. Yes I can take up the matter immediately and request for refund provided I have concrete info that this is a copy make.
So far, the test & results are positive.
1) Phones automatically installed PC companion and asks for ICS 4 update.
2) Quadrant standard test results are Ok
3) No Lag found so far
4) Able to download and install from Google Play
5) Screen Looks nice
6) Got with box seal intact
Concerns Though
1) Phone heats up very rapidly
2) Phone back has some chineese or symbols which creates doubts in my mind
3) battery not so good
4) Camera not convincing
5) Timescape doesn't load pictures properly
6) Gallery takes lot of time to refresh
7) FB pictures in gallery are blurry & low quality
Now situation is cat on the wall
Normal arcs will heat up in the top section when charging or if the processor is in use. Not a big issue.
The points from 5 onwards are not a cause for concern. Timescape background images are low res anyway.

yea u need to enter only 14 digits out of 16 digits..it was clearly mentions in the instructions which numbers to omit..anyways looking at the system info it looks like you got the original arc s..chinese may give same carbon copy of the phone but they will never give same hardware..but ur phone has the hardware of the original arc s...

I have no idea where you got that info from. The key is generated using an algorithm. Which means you can type in any random 14 digit number and a key would come up.

under the battery is also a sticker
it tells you the model and manufacure as well as imei etc etc . the board type IEH20B and such is on that sticker.
or if the device is still usable other then the screen ie will connect and activesync. there's a program called my mobiler or just use the wm power tool activesync display that lets you see and control it frol you pc. and you can look at the details that way to determine the model.
hope this helps.
It's PH20B - so how do i find my board id ?
On the other thread the guys said it should be 0X5 or 0x6. Is there any table where i can pull this out from ?

which thread were you looknig at, as the part number is listed on the sticker as P/N at the bottom of it. which should be unique to that handset
or would be printed on the PCB itself, also LCd's have a sticker usually as well on the back of them that have part nuber as they are never manufactured by the phone manufacture

My Trinity was stolen out of my car after my window was broken. I reported to ATT and the SIM card was in-activated right away. However, they acted "dumb" and refused to put a flag on the Trinity's EIM# as theft/stolen. I spoke to three different representatives without any satisfaction. I KNOW for a fact that if someone has an unpaid balance, they would flag BOTH your SIM and EIM from being used. SprintPCS will flag a stolen phone for you, but ATT will not from my experience.
One of the representative told me, "What difference does it make? You no longer have the phone..."
The second representative said, "I don't understand what you want me to do. You already got a replacement phone." (I'm actually using one of my old cell phone.)
The third representative said, "Your initial question is in reference to reseting your email. I have assisted you with that issue. I don't know anything about stolen phones."
Keep in mind that I explained my situation to all three representatives about my break-in and about using my EIM# to prevent someone from selling or using the phone for new service.
In a competitive cellular market, I guess ATT does not care if you use a stolen phone to get new service--it's one more account for them.
Please beware of ATT.
GPS Theft Tracking Software
It's for this very reason that I would HIGHLY recommend GPS tracking software for your phone.
Mobile Justice is a free Open Source version, and there are other PAY alternatives.
Mobile Justice monitors your phone for a SIM change, or waits for you to send your phone a specially coded SMS message. When it recieves it, it will do one of a few things.
1. Pop up a message you select on the screen of the missing phone "Hey Dirtbag, Gimme Back My Phone" or whatever you choose. (Aside from the fact that this might cause them to throw the phone away, I also would rather not let them know I'm coming. I want to knock on his door, look him in the face, and demand my phone back! As soon as he's finished changing his drawers. )
2. Send the GPS coordinates of the missing phone back to you.
3. Both 1 and 2
I just ran a test with this software and it's AMAZINGLY accurate! I typed the RAW coordinates into Google Maps, and it showed not only which house the phone was in, but which room in the house it was in, even when I moved it around. VERY COOL!!!
Pay Alternative:
Bak2u
This software monitors for a SIM card change and automatically sends the phone's NEW Phone Number and SIM Info to predetermined phone numbers that you choose. It does all this in the background so the thief knows nothing.
Mobile Justice can also be setup to be unnoticeable.
Of course, if they do a "Clear Storage" or Flash a new ROM, then neither of these programs will be there to work anymore.
PS: Sorry about your loss, and ATT's lack of help!
this was a big problem in the uk, but phone crime has really dropped due to the phone and sim getting blocked as soon as reported here.
just installed Mobile Justice to my phone...thanks for the link
such a shame your handset was stolen. i'll presume you had this hidden from view when left in your car?
just thought i'd mention blocking the IMEI only prevents that handset from being used in that country providing the service providers have an agreement amongst themselves and will not prevent the phone from being used abroad (unless under agreement too).
Its also (easily) possible but illeagl to change the IMEI.

Yes, that's why I mentioned it in my first post. I would love to find a way to burn it into the rom too. Then they would have to flash a new rom to remove it.
Also, to test it, just send yourself an SMS with "your code +g" give it a few minutes to warm up the GPS and it will send you the phone's cords.
Well hope the memory card wasn't too expensive.
Damn! they'll just send a kill handset command through the sim. Not a lot you can do about preventing someone from changing the IMEI on your phone. It's gone, be thankfull you will get a replacement. Some people dont get insurance and pay for it big time.
BUT I had no idea Mobile justice was around. This should be a compulory addition for all cooks out there. Your phone is going to be a little easier to find if this is installed.
there are quite a few programs like this. Others are "Ultimate Theft Alert" and W.I.M.P - Where Is My Phone"
I find ultimate theft to be the best.
These items also dont show on installed programs list so the only way to get rid of them is to hard reset.
EDIT: Also, be mindful to put someone elses number to be messaged as your sim will be stolen... has been done before!

I have bought HTC one x on monday. but it has got heating and lagging issue when I called in customer care then they asked IMEI no but both IMEI in the system info and on the box are different.
In device it displays 004999010640000.
First of all I don't know rooting or any custom Rom kind of thing. I'm currently using stock HTC sense 4.0.
Please someone get me out of this problem.
What I have to do now for claim the warranty?
Looks like a IMSI and not IMEI ..Please recheck ...and what sort of heating issues u toking abt ? While playing games the area around camera tends to get a bit heated ..Its Normal ...
I have this no by pressing *#06#
And my phone sometimes goes upto 55 while charging.
Yesterday it began to heat without using it and battery goes 74-9%.
And it restarted 4 times.
But how I claim warrenty with different IMEI.
Thanxx
Your baseband is corrupt or has been tampered with. That TAC prefix is a test one that shouldn't ever appear on a retail HTC.
All you can do is talk to HTC customer service and whoever you bought the phone from and give them the IMEI off the box whilst also explaining that the phone IMEI isn't valid.
But I m using custom HTC sense 4.0.
I never installed any Rom or something.
But retailer downloaded ics launcher,win7 launcher;and apple mac launcher .
Is it the reason for this ?
If it is then I have to talk with retailer.

If you've not installed a custom firmware then there is no chance you broke it yourself. Regular apps can't alter it at all.
You'd need to have the bootloader in S-OFF mode or alter the RIL in your firmware to make it report that number.
The TAC for the One X is 35918804 so your IMEISV will be 35918804xxxxxxx.
IMEI on the box is exactly this kind....but on device its different.
& what is bootloader s-off mode ??please reply because I'm new in android field.

The bootloader in HTC devices usually prevents you from using custom firmware and altering the baseband. S-OFF = Security off = The ability to alter everything in the phone including the baseband.
How to check s-mode is off or on ??
I have issues due to overheating also...like accelerometer and keyboard not working sometimes after restarting device and front camera is very noisy photo looks like thousand of ants running on the face and distortion also.
But I can't claim the warranty due to this different IMEI no....
Who/where did u buy the phone from and maybe you can send it back under the cooling off period. If the imei number is wrong just explain that it was how your phone came! Btw, you haven't accidently swapped with another one X Have you? My wife and I did that when we ordered matching HTC desires.
Hope this helps a little

How to check it is on or off ??
Please tell me.
I'm really worried about this issue.
Sounds like someone has played with. it in the shop.
To check for S-OFF turn the phone on whilst holding volume down key and report back the infor seen on the screen.
I once got a xperia, the first to come out. It had been opened and returned. They assured me it was ok and was the last one left in the shop (o2) . I really wanted it there and then so I took it. It had issues so I returned it and got a desire from the 3uk shop in stead.
Not sure what consumer rights are like in India but I say return to shop and at least get the phone swapped. I find it helps to go when the shop is busy, they will soon return your phone while they are trying to sell more.
Let us know how you get on.

Hey everyone its a miracle or something .
Today, at noon my phone restarts automatically 5 times and keep restarting till battery is completely drained but and its overheats to 62 degrees.
Then after when I restarted and check IMEI then I was shocked to see that it was same as on the box.
I don't know why this happened.

Hello Guys,
I am a newbie here & would appreciate your help in following matter.
I bought a HTC One X from Bangkok and i m using it in India now.I am facing following issues.
1. I suspect that the phone that i bought was AT &T locked phone earlier and i might have been cheated by the seller in this regard. My question is how do i confirm whether this is an AT&T unlocked Phone?
2. The language of applications installed on the Phone is chinese and i cant seem to get rid of the language even after changing the language from settings page. How do i get it to be in English completely?
3. Indian carrier SIM apart from CELLONE does not detect or register on any network here. and the SIM slot is a normal one not a micro SIM Slot. Does this Phone require any special kind of SIM card?
4. Even Google Play is not there. whenever i try to download anything a page in chinese opens up. And i do not know chinese.
4. Will rooting of my phone help in any of these regard? I even dont know whether this Phone was a rooted one.
Please Help somebody....
Thanks & regard..
Nix.

Looks like it could be a really old build of HK firmware, but the kernel date doesn't make sense.
Try flashing the latest HK RUU (1.29.708.15) http://www.filefactory.com/f/7cc7b2fbdd03c031/
I'll leave it to you to find a username and password that works, but it's been posted in this forum more than once.
Strange, Also you mentioned that the phone takes a full sized sim not micro sim. Check the HOX's spec sheet and you will find that they were manufactured with micro sim slot only.
Maybe it IS a knock off OR someone modded the build.prop and sold you a Desire X?
i am uploading my factory mode screen. Please see if you guys can help

Constant rebooting and freezes are part of its daily routine. As well as stopped apps and processes messages in a ridiculous way.
I have tried millions of ROMs, officials and customs, all kind of wipes and restores. I have even tried the eMMC brickbug apps looking for damaged chips or internal memory: Nothing, the phone is perfectly fine.
But here are some facts that may be relevant to find the problem:
- The phone came with the IMEI number scrached in the back of the battery.
- I've been using the phone for hours and hours perfectly fine as long as no update is performed and the Sync option is off.
- Doing the above I have even downloaded and used some little apps with no problems.
- When the major apps are installed, like Facebook and Instagram the phone begins to die, popping more and more "stoppped working" errors.
- The processes that fail the most are the google type but, in general, every single existing process has failed in this 2 years.
- I have noticed that when you start the phone for the first time after a wipe or a new ROM, it is better to create a new google account than using an existing one because the existing one, I think, will start updating everything while the new one will not. Anyway, using a new google account collapses the phone sooner or later.
Sorry for the long post, fellas. But I wanted to give you all the possible info I have about this phone.
Hoping for you can help me fix this issue... Have a good day.
Galaxy S4 mini GT-I9190
I'd guess at a hardware issue in the radio and related circuitry as you seem to get the issues when apps that send/receive data frequently are in use. Though it could be anything. You probably need to get it checked by an authorised Samsung repair centre ......... if your phone is not too "suspicious!"

Thanks for your reply! Do you have an idea why they scratched the IMEI number? Maybe that could take me to where the exact problem is. Here is a photo of the back

Sorry for the link, my account still cannot post outside links
I was going to say they scratched the IMEI number probably because it was stolen so that it could not be tracked, but it is quite easy to see the number so that is probably not the reason. One place I used to work at the test department used to scratch the bar codes on faulty PCB's so that they cannot be scanned back into the system by mistake (if the fault tag comes off, etc) as that computer system did not prevent scrapped boards from being re-entered. So I would guess this may be the case with your phone, but of course we can't know for certain! But based on this and all tests of different ROMs etc you did I suspect it is quite likely the explanation.
What I would do is look for the same model that has a cracked screen on ebay etc so it's cheap to buy then swap the PCB's from the cracked phone to your good screen (swap everything to prevent the possibility of the boards not working due to different revision numbers, as has been reported when replacing the power boards on our phone). You can also buy a repair kit for a few dollars on ebay with screwdrivers, pry tool etc

If the PCB on your phone was scratched to show it was faulty then taking to a repair shop is probably a waste of money, unless then run an assessment for free before they repair it.
Hope you can fix it for a few dollars!
not sure if this helps but that I actually managed read off the IMEI code correctly and it turns out its a turkish registered phone, I can PM you IMEI code if you want, also its not reported stolen (but i am guessing its most likely is), anyways thats all I was here to say, good luck.
