2 problems with BA - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hey Boys..
i have 2 problems with my BA..
1. I need from an broken BA 2 screws witch are left an right near the pen where can i get these little screws?
2. I hear if i switch my BA on a nosi but nerv. sinus music is this normal?
3. What Radio Rom is better 1.15.00 or 1.13.00?
-
BA
Rom: 1.42.01 GER
09/05/05
Radio: 1.15.00
Prot: 1337.45
ExtRom: 1.42.122 GER

I had the same problems...
... and here's the solution to the screw issue:

Enjoy!
As to the buzzing issue, unfortunately, that is a known design flaw, and the only way past that was to have the whole unit replaced (fortunately I was still under warranty when it happened).
It's possible that just a screen replacement might solve that, too. Talk to the folks at Pocket PC Techs and see what they think...

a Screwdriver i have but i wont pay the 10$ for send it to germany ... Hast got somewone screws i would pay 5-10 € for it...

I'd like to send the money on the post way not over banking...

never answered your last question...
the 1.15 radio is definitely better than the 1.13 version.

Why? I' testing both, and I would disagree...

At least where I am located (primarily 850 band), I have better reception and fewer dropped calls

Solution? low voice level issue

Hi,
has anyone found a fix or an app or something to the low voice level issue during phone calls? we already know that a BT headset is a "workaround" but i was really hoping for a solution for the devide itself...
thanks in advance.
Press and hold the answer call button to enable the speakerphone. Should get your volume up to more than you need.
I hear ya about the voice problem. TERRIBLE.. Read my latest thread about the so many faults I found on the PDA2K..
'Blue Angel'.. LOL... I Would call it Dark Angel.
Try to replace the device
You should try to replace (change) the MDA III. Newer models does'nt have this issue. After 7 weeks of trying (...and crying), i've decided to bring the MDA III back to the T-Mobile Shop and asked for a replacement. 2 days later, i've got a new MDA III, now without any issues.
No Solution???
Thanks for your replies so far.
What i can´t understand is, why can´t we do something about it, a fix or a setting or an app... since it´s not an hardware problem ( the voice level when recording a video for instance is quite acceptable ((...well AVI not MP4...). After all, this is a developers forum! is it impossible to fix that issue?
I Think this is a very important feature for the Phone usability of the blue angel! must the 1000´s of units already sold be returned and exchanged?
ps - thanks 1234 but the voice level i´m talking about is from my own voice (the mic) and not the loudspeaker! other people when i´m in a phone conversation always say that i seem to be very far away and they hear me very low...!
This problem seems to be caused by the placement of the mic in a tiny hole next to the reset hole. Everyone complains that you sound faint when you're talking. If you try talking 'directly' into the hole or even hold the phone in your left hand things seem to improve ( closer to your voice-box? ) . You can also see this problem when making a movie with the phone. It sounds very quiet when compared to the same test with an XDA II. The XDA II had a mic in a much better position, next to the direction pad.
I think, it's a hardware issue
As i know, it's a hardware issue with the mic.
The position of the mic is bad, that's true, but some Shops will replace the MDA III against never models with some changes.
A Sales rep in a T-Mobile Shop told me, that devices with the voice issue WILL BE REPAIRED (mic change or something like this).
So, it may be a good idea to replace the device against a never model.
It's strange,
for me there are problems with cable headset.
If it's a problem with the phone mic, why I had the same problem, but only sometimes, with the headset ?
I will try also another headset.

Audio level - intolerable
Hello All,
I'm new to this forum but am a very frustrated PDA2K owner.
I cannot tolerate the issue of people complaining that my voice is too low during phone calls. The device has cost me an arm and a leg.
I bought it thinking it was the best PDA/Phone on the planet. The issue is there is no IMate service center in Egypt. I had it sent to me from Dubai...
If a software solution exists, then I would be very greatful for it.
PS. koponet says that he/she replaced their device. Has the microphone location been changed? Or is it still in the same spot?
Position is still the same
The mic position is still the same after the replacement , but the voice level is much better.
Before the replacement, the voice level was bad using the MDA III WITH or WITHOUT the cable headset (thats included).
After the replacement, the voice level is still bad using the MDA III WITH the cable headset (thats included), but much better WITHOUT this headset.
CALLING all Developers
I Think this is beacoming THE brain test for all the developer community out there...
If someone could come up with a software solution for this issue i´ll bet there would be several 1000´s of users ( all of QTEK, XDA, I-mate owners worldwide) thanking and respecting the "ONE"...
thanks,
Vega.
I would be happy if somebody could for sure tell whether this is a hardware issue or not.
For me, it can't be a hardware issue. Recording with the same mic and phone calls with Skype work well. Why should the same mic not work for GSM voice ???
A
I've contacted the italian distributor of Qtek 9090 about this issue.
They told me that they will release a patch in the next few days !!!
However, IMHO, it's a software issue, not hardware one because:
- the same mic with non-GSM apps works well
- With the mic in the cable headset you will experience the same problem.

Manuel
fixed with new ROM
I've installed the new ROM with radio version 1.06.02
I've made a few calls and the mic problem seems over!!!!
However I'll made some other calls to see if it's really solved.
bye
Manuel
Manuel, can you send me the upgrade for radio?
thanks
[email protected]
You could always take the pointed end from a sharp x-acto knife and cafefully 'drill' out the mic hole making it bigger. Drastic? Yes. Does it help? Yup.
Please post the Radio ROM which fixes this issue!
Rom update from qtek seems to fix it
The rom update from this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14362
seemed to fix my mic level issues. It came with the 1.06 radio version.
Thanks...hope it helps you
sound issue - quiet microphone
I still have this issue, even after upgrading to the latest ROM version (iMate 1.40.176)
Everyone I speak to says I sound distant or quiet, and plugging the standard wired handsfree doesnt seem to help at all. I spend all my time shouting into the phone to be heard!
Has anyone found a solution? should I upgrade the Radio ROM as well?
I have an XDAiis.
If you're using imate 1.40.176, then you should have radio 1.12 which is only one release back from the latest, so upgrading radio to 1.13 won't make a difference. I have an O2 XDA2s with radio 1.13 & sound level is fine, but it was also fine when using radio 1.06 (as shipped with phone)
Sounds like you have a hardware problem

Whistling screen?!?!

Ok, so overall not impressed with the BA. It clearly has some serious issues... but I never expected this!
I noticed today that when the screen is on (ie. during a phonecall) my handset now makes a high pitched whistling noise emmitting from the screen!! It's audiable from a good 2.5 feet away and is horribly annoying!
Anyone else had this problem/found a solution? If someone could check to see if they all do it I would be very appreciative
-Mike
Yes, I had exactly the same problem. After various emails and telephone calls I sent it back to my distributor (expansys) and they sent it to Dubai. Exactly 4 weeks later it came back with a brand new screen.
Don't get too excited though, as the whistle came back after about 6 weeks. Just got used to it now.

AAARGH!!
wheeeeeeeeeee
Yeah, I can vouch for you guys here...
I'm currently on handset #3, and into month #5 with my Orange UK Contract. Within a month or so, the whistle comes back, and Orange send me a new phone.
I'm sure they must now have it in their diaries to just ship me a new one!
Thankfully I have Orange's insurance, which means I get new phones... but they've recently changed their T&C to say that I must pay £15.00 to process the exchange.
As far as I'm aware, if the unit is faulty within the first 12 months, it is Orange's obligation with HTC to provide me a new unit, FOC - statutory consumer rights etc? Or is that the first 3 months for an exchange, and 12 months for repair?!
Either way, their insurance (which costs £5/month) has gone down in value for money a LOT now.
R.
Damnit. Mine went today for repair. Apparantly it has to have the same fault three times before 02 will replace it
This truly is the worst handset I ever had for reliability.
Yep same problem here. Started after about a month....not found a cure.
strange, i never had this problem!!!! :?:
does it make any difference with Asia IIs? I haven't had that issue yet. Only issue i have is when the phone is in Vibration mode .. the volume slider starts to vibrate and make a buzzing noise (kinda annoying).
XDA IIs Asia model owners
did any on the XDA IIs owners with asia model ever face this problem? put in ur views!
Yeah, I had the handset just over a month. Maybe its just the odd one has some kinda dodgy component which after about that time has an adverse effect on the screen. Strange, I hate this thing so much but after a day of no PDA I miss it terribly
mike: whats ur country
hi mike,
whats ur country of origin and was ur XDA iis of Asian origin?
Sorry no, It's UK
I've had an O2 XDA IIs for about 3 months, other than it crashing randomly when I got it, it has been absolutely fantastic.
The crashing was fixed by removing the O2 software.

maybe you could try an IMATE rom 1.40 i have this and it solved all the minor problems that i had when i was on the pants o2 rom!!!
Apparently, the whistling we are hearing is from the backlight circuit.
I can't remember whether the BA uses fluorescent or elctroluminescent devices for backlight, but if you listen to almost ANY EL device (mp3 players, watches, etc) you will find they, too, eminate a slight whistle.
The emphasis, however, is on _SLIGHT_.
It's due to the high-frequency AC power that is used to give the glow - what we're hearing is the oscillator... well... oscillating.
That is (so I'm told) the technical blurb - and I've listened to all my other EL things I own, and yes, they do whistle too, very very quietly.
So - whistling BA owners - we have FAULTY DEVICES. :-(
R.
Wowzers you know your stuff. My whistling was immediately noticable when it first started and from a distance so it's defo not slight lol.
Cheers for the technical Jargon! I'll use it as ammuntion in the 02 shop when I try to trade this for a 2i
i spent 10min listening to my screen and another 10min on the phone to test out this theory. no whistling BA's here. maybe it's a bad batch of BA?
So the 02 shop just rang me at home. Apparantly the repair centre has decided that I have damaged the screen and that I have to pay £160 for a new screen or £17.50 to get it sent back unrepaired.
I'm not happy considering I KNOW I didn't damage the handset. If it was sat on the desk not doing it, I didnt move it, then it started doing it then I'd say I had nothing to do with it. I especially don't want to pay £160 to get a screen back which will only start whistling again in a month.
02 are scum.

Returned MDA Pro for Repairs

Hi,
Today I returned to the T-mobile shop. I deliverd my dutch MDA Pro for Repairs.
I have the following complains:
- Battery dies at 54%. Very anoying.
- Calls are not clear, sometimes I cant understand anything someone say. I have a bad reception.
- Device is slow. You all know it.
Befor I returned my device, I took out my SIMcard, Memorycard and Stylus. I flash the latest dutch t-mobile rom (1.30.233) to my device and gave it a hard-reset.
The woman at the story told me I should receive a call in 10 workingdays to pick up my device. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Sharky,
IMHO Your Uni is ok. Battery issue was described many times over the forum and its connected to wornout battery. (In Your case Youll should get new battery after a repair so its good point)
Bad reception is propably because old radio rom - have You tried to upgrade it?
Slowness is a personal matter - mine is sometimes slow also but it depends on soo many elements thats its hard to define what precisely is slow.
Anyway how will You survive whitout Your Uni - its a question ;-)
best ,
Piotr

I know I can't. I just hope nothing goes wrong with my device, at least before any of the clamshell PDAs start to roll out. I would hate to buy another Universal, just to see a new version the next month.
BTW wats ur result after the upgrade did it solved ne of the problem .

No ringer or speakerphone sound after radio and rom upgrade...help needed.

Hi All,
I have a Hermes200 and tried to upgrade to WM6 as per the correct instructions. I initially upgraded the radio to 1.47.00.10 and Schaps 4.30 and in the process lost all external speaker volume. Meaning it does not ring or play any sounds other than the little earpiece.
In the meantime I've tried 1.51.00.10 and Schaps 4.31 and the situation is the same.
BTW it's an unlocked phone originally bought from Rogers.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I gave 1.54.00.00 upgrade a try but stil no good. Anyone else face this issue? Is there a previous radio version that works? Or is it the WM6 upgrade?
I had the same thing happen to mine...but it turned out to be the actual speaker that was broke. I got a replacement speaker off ebay.

Was the replacement difficult? Any special tools?
I just found it so strange that it happened the moment I did the upgrade
My speaker has just packed up, bloody annoying really as I needed to use tomtom at the time, I got a replacement off ebay.

he provides the tools, search for dismantling instructions on the forum, its easy really...
My speaker packed up recently too, downgraded back to T-Mobile WM5 and took it into a T-Mob shop to be fixed under warranty. They gave me the crappest phone known to man as a loan so I've gone back to my (9 year old ) Nokia 6210 as it's a lot better lol.

That's the same guy I got mine from!
To the OP - it's not very hard at all...just make sure you get a copy of the Service Manual and follow that on how to remove the old speaker.
You might actually find that the speaker isn't broke...and it's just the connector that has come off the mother board.
Got my phone back from T-Mobile yesterday and it's been exchanged for a brand new one
Seems a bit excessive for just a busted speaker but who am I to complain
Just realised today that the scroll wheel doesn't work as the ok button when you click it in, so this one will be going back to T-Mobile too
Will see if I can get a Kaiser out of them instead

sometime NO GSM and sometime will detect a radio rom.

why my dopod 838pro sometime it cannot detect a radio rom and show a NO GSM, but if detect it a radio rom and it will hang about and half hours and reset will turn back to NO GSM, is hardware or software prob, anyone can give me a solution?
Provide more information - OS version and Radio version. Its probably a hardware problem but you may try to reflash to a manufacturer's shipped version and retest.
I had the same problem basically. Phone would freeze up, get repeated NO GSM messages, drop the radio even when it finds it after several minutes of use. I did buy the phone off eBay used and it did freezeup in WM5 ALOT.
I took the phone apart and cleaned all the contacts - same problems. Reflashed manufacturer's rom again and it took. Before it sometimes would hang up - looking for GSM radio. Took it apart again FULLY and put everything back together. It is now working for the past week. No freezeups or drops. Seems to always find GSM on bootup.
last time using a official rom wm6 also freeze up, then flash it to manila2d rom, it also got a same prob, try reflash a radio rom, but always get stuck at 6%, but try and try then 100% done, but also same prob.
so ur solution is try Reflashed manufacturer's rom again?
Thats what I did but the flash alone didn't fix the problem. I don't think a rom flash will bring your phone back but you may get lucky. I had to open it up and clean and reposition things. For some reason it worked. I still get screen fade to white and the directional pad on the front sometimes doesn't work - you move the scroll wheel and it will work again. Might have to replace the dPad circuit board or flex cable. The HERMES seems to have MAJOR problems with quality control and the radios. I personally think the battery presses against a backing plate which rests directly against the chipsets. The silver plate behind the battery does flex and it shouldn't. It probably should be a little thicker to prevent flexing. The heat from charging and the pressure from the battery I think causes the radios to fail. Bad soldering also may be a problem but any pressure on a motherboard and chipsets isn't a good thing. Also screws that are too tight also may contribute to the problem.
My phone has been working for about a week. Prior to that it was getting constant NO GSM errors on bootup and dropped calls. Today the phone was out of the house for the first time in weeks and it worked without any problems - no freezes (did a lot before) and no dropped radio. It has been sitting on my desk for two weeks without any problem. Will try it a few more days and see.
herm200 no GSM
Hi! I have read all thread about no GSM from here.
I have already do many many tests, tried to flash any radio rom extracted, hard reset, mtty with set 1e 1... I have already dissasemble and reassemble it
but no one fix the problem No GSM.
I have the same probleme, sometime no gsm and sometime ok.
So please, if anyone find everything which can fix this problem please post it!
Sorry for my english!
Thanks a lot for all jobs and helps.
Hello all, my hermes had this problem too!
Sometime it works, " 1.56.70.11" and sometime no! "NO GSM"
i have done about twenty flash thinking it will resolve this problem...
After reading a topic on this problem, i have understand it was an hardware problem. Something unsolde.
I have buy "double face scotch", i have disasemble the phone completely.
And on every chip and on the "battery"( little round and flat) i have put a little piece of scotch. it will do a pression on every chip to keep chip connected on the motherboard.
From this moment, the phone has never freeze, no more "no gsm" message!
ALL IS GOOD
Sorry for my poor english.
Many things can affect the radio
Try this...
Un plug your batt... insert a big piece of aluminium under the batt over the gsm chip... it wil not work properly... Magnetic issues... the batt do this things too i prove it on a Nokia... the batt without the stick = radio problem no signal...
Abd here i got the same trouble no gsm sometimes i realized that has been a lot flashes but noup, was a dialer that makes this issues 3G phone canvas,.... back to touch dialer 3G or 2G and its good now... think the CPROG and some other is not so compatible.
Desperately please help me, my Dopod 838 Pro has No GSM!
hey dude try another rom... the roms with HTC phonecanvas 2g or 3g do this issues on my hermes dunno why... thats th reason i dont cook anymore phoncanvas on my roms.
Update Radio ROM to 1.47
I had same problem just recently, and the recommendation that I got was update your Radio ROM ONLY...I upgrade to Radio 1.47 as all the time I was loosing service connection as well as No GSM...after this, my Hermes took live again.
I had 1.16 Radio...!!! and that issue came up after upgrading to one of the so many cooked ROM...I don't remember which one...
Check this link for more info, it saved my life!!!
