No ringer or speakerphone sound after radio and rom upgrade...help needed. - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi All,
I have a Hermes200 and tried to upgrade to WM6 as per the correct instructions. I initially upgraded the radio to 1.47.00.10 and Schaps 4.30 and in the process lost all external speaker volume. Meaning it does not ring or play any sounds other than the little earpiece.
In the meantime I've tried 1.51.00.10 and Schaps 4.31 and the situation is the same.
BTW it's an unlocked phone originally bought from Rogers.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I gave 1.54.00.00 upgrade a try but stil no good. Anyone else face this issue? Is there a previous radio version that works? Or is it the WM6 upgrade?

I had the same thing happen to mine...but it turned out to be the actual speaker that was broke. I got a replacement speaker off ebay.

Was the replacement difficult? Any special tools?
I just found it so strange that it happened the moment I did the upgrade

My speaker has just packed up, bloody annoying really as I needed to use tomtom at the time, I got a replacement off ebay.

he provides the tools, search for dismantling instructions on the forum, its easy really...

My speaker packed up recently too, downgraded back to T-Mobile WM5 and took it into a T-Mob shop to be fixed under warranty. They gave me the crappest phone known to man as a loan so I've gone back to my (9 year old ) Nokia 6210 as it's a lot better lol.

That's the same guy I got mine from!
To the OP - it's not very hard at all...just make sure you get a copy of the Service Manual and follow that on how to remove the old speaker.
You might actually find that the speaker isn't broke...and it's just the connector that has come off the mother board.

Got my phone back from T-Mobile yesterday and it's been exchanged for a brand new one
Seems a bit excessive for just a busted speaker but who am I to complain

Just realised today that the scroll wheel doesn't work as the ok button when you click it in, so this one will be going back to T-Mobile too
Will see if I can get a Kaiser out of them instead

Damaged MICROPHONE???

Stupid me!!!
I didn't have my STYLUS with me, needed to do a soft-reset of my O2 Xda IIs and it wouldn't reset, I pushed it again and again with the only thing I could find (a paperclip) and it wouldn't reset.
THEN, I realized I was pushing the WRONG HOLE!!!! I was pushing the paperclip into the with Microhone hole!!!!
Now, the microphone is ruined. Whenever I use the phone, people can't hear me very well, it sounds garbled, or like I'm far away from the phone.
QUESTION: I found someone local who said they could fix the phone, but when they opened the device, they called to say they don't have a suitable replacement microphone.
Does anyone know EXACTLY what it is I need, and whether or not there is a local place I can BUY the microphone for these guys to install???? Oterwise I am going to have to wait weeks for them to order and have one shipped form China (that's what they said).
Thanks.
C'mon guys, someone MUST know where I can get my hands on a replacement microphone... does anyone have a damaged Blue Angel that I can strip the mic from???
Did you ever find a microphone?
I have a prblem with my microphone as well and have torn my BA apart and found the microphone. It would be an easy repair if I could just find a microphone.
How do you damage your mic?
I have one from a parts phone if you want it...

BT Operator Logo

Upgraded BT BB Anywhere HTC S620 to Kavana's excellent wm6.1 rom. All working great.
Anyone know how to restore BT as the operator logo instead of vodafone?
Am afraid i dont.
I have the same phone and also flashed it.
BT runs on the Vodaphone network.
Does it matter the op logo is not BT? its not like you havent invalidated ur warranty already.
No it's not a big deal really, just wondered if it could be done.
i had this issue, but strangely, a few days later, it returned to BT on its own, whereas it had said vodafone
very strange.
I've had kavana 6.1 on for a few weeks now so I don't think it's going to change now. I could always phone BT & say their logo has disappeared from the phone, I'm sure they would be helpfull...yeah right

What about getting the logo off the phone body "debadge"
Thought about thinners "No it will discolour"
Brillo pad "Sounds a bit extreme"
Sticker "Bound to come off"
Any ideas hate the reminder of BT everytime i look at my phone
If you have to return phone ever make sure you reflash BT ROM http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=a1e428ed720bdf418c9e7c56ba37815f84a9dca793b93f60
Wish I could help with the internal operator logo. US phones don't display them.
As for the case badge, the usual remedy is rubbing it with table sugar with your fingers. If not careful, it could mar the finish, but it's the surest way to get the branding removed without harming the phone.

Providing the phone is in a fit state to be reflashed of course, knowing my luck the phone will die one day & I won't be able to reflash before returning. Although I think if I had kept the BT **** on there another second I would have binned it anyway.

I know's what you mean, i have not upgraded to Kavana, due to my phone working extremely well with a re-set and OC'd, WM6.1 looks nice but bound to use more RAM.
I'm a happy owner.
I put this together for BT users who want to re-set there device, but not void warranty by a ROM update http://www.s620.blogspot.com/ but don't know where to put it doubt BT would like me to put link on there forum???
Have linked off my blog which is on the BT anywhere links, so hope people see it anyway.
Great blog, screenshots look good, I may go down that path next.
Won't the warranty be void if they realise it's been OC'd?, come to think of it would they even check the phone if it was sent back, probably just post out another one.
Would be nice if BT released a 6.1 upgrade, I'm going to find it hard to ditch this.

If you reset phone before going back for repair etc, then there is no trace of software install. They underclock them anyway.
What proof do they have some screenshots with a program installed
I like the way it looks and i'm far more into having a fast phone than one that looks great, but the WM6.1 builds do look amazing.
Trevaaaaaaa take look @ my security Blog also links to Multi-Media under sig.
stylez,
would you have HTC_S710_WWE_BT... ROM? I have a BT HTC S710, which needs reflashing or rebranding because by mistake after using HTC original on it, I needed to reflash, in the process I ended up with a partial reflash (S620), now my smartphone does not show anything on the screen. I have sound from key presses and two green lights on either side of ear piece.

If im not mistaken, the S710 is the VOX.
You would have a better change going to the vox forum and asking them after you read around to see if one is posted.

I have spent days on the HTC S710 posts. No one is coming out with an answer. At the moment they all point to the BT ROM for HTC S620.
BT can only take it in for repairs.
I am in a fix over this one.
7 days no phone.

Broken Speaker?

Hey guys,
I have a problem with one of the speakers. It is sounding extremely distorted. If you are looking at the back of the phone, it is the speaker on the left. While playing music, I covered the left speaker and the other one sounds great, no problem. As soon as i move my finger it sounds horrible. Any ideas? Do I have to replace it?
Thanks for your help
I have the same problem.
Very bad sound, even at low volume.
Does someone have a solution or an address where to get a new speaker (module)?
I guess i have to replace the part as shown in the pictures. (attached). Possibly contains more then just speaker(s)
Thanks,
Robin

I was thinking the same thing, but I cannot find anywhere online where I can buy that piece. All I find is some housings, and screens and a few keyboards. Are there any sites that sell the parts we need?
I've recently noticed the same thing. I wasn't sure if the speaker had anything to do with the radio you're running (radio in reference to the GSM radio, not AM/FM radio). It seems to have started after I flashed a new ROM which is why I ask.

Well this started a few weeks after I flashed my phone. My radio is version 4.48.25.20. Are you having problems with the same radio? I spoke to a HTC Representative earlier and they told me that it there is no damage (water, physical) or "improper programming" (lol) on the phone, i could send it in and it should be covered under their warrenty. I would just have to pay shipping and handling.
I have the same problem. Mine happened after I was playing music too loud. Think I blew the speaker. If anyone figures out where to get a replacement part please let us know!
Sweet.. I just found it on Ebay. Do a search for "touch pro 2 speaker"

Lumia 900 - Volume level during the call very low

Hi,
I first posted this help request on Nokia Support Discussions on August 13, but amazingly I received no reply to date (I can't insert the link since I have no privileges for that as a new user).
I am experimenting a very weird and annoying problem with my Lumia 900. Some weeks ago, the volume level during the phone call became suddenly very low and barely noticeable. I can hardly hear the other speaker both calling and receiving a phone call. Apparently this behaviour is restricted to the phone call feature in normal mode. If I press the loudspeaker button, for example, I can hear the conversation perfectly as usual. Same using my earpiece: I can hear and talk without any problem. Moreover, the audio output appears to be OK outside the phone call itself: when using apps, music, games or any other feature except the phone call, I can't spot anything abnormal in the volume level, everything appears to work properly.
I would like to point out that:
1) the volume level during the call is set to the max. level as usual (10/10)
2) the master volume of the device, as set though both right-hand buttons, is set as usual to the max. level (30/30).
3) I turned off and on the device, I removed and reinserted the SIM card many times since then, unfortunately the problem persists
4) I did not notice any other problem before this happened, nor the device suffered any "catastrophic" event (such as drop, water or similar).
Basically, I can only hear a speaker during a phone call either keeping the loudspeaker always on or using the earpiece. It's like my call volume were set to 1 or 2, while it is actually set to 10.
Can you help me determine whether this issue may be software or hardware related in first place? Unfortunately bringing it to the Nokia Customer Care is not the first option for me at the moment. I bought my device in Europe, but I am currently in South America. I may consider using the local Nokia Customer Care and paying a fee, but first I would like some clarifications from engineers or advanced users.
Finally, a guy on another forum suggested me a hard reset. I confess I never did that before, is there any step-by-step instruction for this? Or does it make sense to wait for the next software update through Zune (currently I have 8779.12201, a new update however has been already released and should be available for my language within days or weeks).
Thank you very much in advance for any useful information
You can wait for the update or try a hard reset. A reset will restore you phone to factory fresh, so you will lose everything currently stored on the phone; photos, apps, messages, settings, etc. So be sure to sync with Zune to backup photos and videos first, and sync with your Live ID mail account to sync contacts. Restoring email accounts, contacts, apps and media are all easy, but could take a few hours (depending on how many apps you have). If you prepare for the reset (as you can) it makes things easier.
If your other option is to send you phone out for service, that could take weeks. So while painful, rh hard reset is the "quick" fix. If your volume problem persists after the hard reset, then you know its hardware related (be sure to check before and after installing any apps to eliminate any possibilities). If so, and after telling Nokia Care that a hard reset didn't solve the problem, it might just get you a replacement. Quicker than sending it out for an inspection. Hope you get it worked out.
Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express Pro
It makes no sense to wait. I assume you are still under your initial warranty, so do the hard reset...after, as jimski says, you save off any pics or music specific to the device. You will lose SMS and SMS history , and any game scores.
Use reinstalled to reinstall apps after the reset, to get or apps installed more quickly.
Hard reset is a harsh way to test this out. However, if you test the phone before reinstalling apps, you cut to the chase real quick. If this is a hardware issue, do NOT wait for a fix. Replace the device and be done with it.
Good luck
First of all, many thanks to you both for your kind reply. It is refreshing to finally have someone listening to you when you really need.
It appears that a hard reset should be the first step to do in any case. While I have no idea when the next update with Zune will be available for my language, I can try to solve the problem alone. Is there any tested step-by step procedure for flashing Lumia 900 or Lumia devices in general? If yes, would you please point me there with a link?
Both your replies convinced me that bringing the phone to the Nokia Customer Care here in South America is definitely not a good idea. Yes, I am still under my initial warranty, I bought my device end of June, the problem is that I bought it in Europe, so my warranty is not supposed to cover me here. If the issue is at hardware level, there is very little they can do here for me without to exburse a lot of money, not to talk about the waste of time. Should the hard reset not work, I guess I'll have to wait for my next travel to Europe or having someone bringing it there for me to have my device replaced.
Anyway, I will let you now about any progress.
Many thanks for your help.

I'll start by saying, the Hard Reset will not force you to re-flash your phone. It just resets it back to stock settings. This is in fact the easiest and best way to try to resolve problems with your phone. To do so, go into your settings menu. Go to About, and scroll down to 'reset your phone', tap that, and follow instructions. This will delete all your data and messages, so be sure you've backed up first.
If you Absolutely NEED to flash your phone back to OEM Stock, you can use my link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605144
One other thing to check (and what I suspect to be the problem) is the speaker itself. It sounds to me like you either have a failing speaker, or something is in the speaker hole. Look closely at it and see if there is dirt/lint/chocolate/peanuts/earwax/etc packed in the speaker grill. It's pretty easy for this to happen. Try blowing it out with canned air and see if that helps. Otherwise, it's probable that the speaker is going out or the connection is failing.
Good Luck, and be sure you decide before your warranty is gone. Send it off ASAP if the above items don't help. PS: Flashing back to stock may void your warranty, so decide if you want to take that chance, rather than wait for repair to return it.
Thank you very much again for your time. And yes, I had found that link in this forum and was already duly reading it. I just did not post this because I still have no privileges to post links.

One last question. Would you please clarify whether Lumia 900 has one or more speakers? The speaker grill on the bottom of the device has apparently no noticeable dirt or other foreign material inside it, anyway I will try blow it with air, maybe it will help. One thing I can't explain to me is why everything appears to be OK with the volume level except during phone calls. As I mentioned in my first post, the audio output with music, apps, games etc. is normal. When I use the loudspeaker in phone calls, no problem. So the question: is there any other speaker in Lumia 900 which is used for phone calls, for example on the top of the device? I don't think so, but if yes, this would definitely point to a hardware problem of THAT speaker.
Anyway, I will let you know about any progress.
Kind regards

There are in fact two different speaker outlets. There's the one at the bottom which is speakerphone, games, apps, etc... Then there is the one at the top in that little slot. That's the one I suspect is either clogged, or going bad.
EDIT: Do you have a case installed that might be blocking that speaker?

Same issue with my lumia asian rom...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Wow! I thought I was going crazy....'cause I've had the same issues for the past few months. When I got my Lumia 900, I was pleasantly surprised that my in-call volume actually DIDN'T need to be set to max (10/10), and I usually dialed it back to 8/10. Nice...but it began to get quiet so that even on 10/10 it was difficult to hear callers -- especially if I was standing outside. I thought it had to do with a ROM or firmware update, but so few people noted the same problem that I just assumed my phone was faulty.
<sigh>
Anyhow, I found this thread just 30 minutes ago, read through your story, and (for whatever reason) thought it thru more fully. I realized that since I keep my phone in my pocket, maybe the thin ear speaker grill (just above the screen) is full of lint?!? I grabbed a soft, dry toothbrush and took about 30 seconds to brush it out. I could actually see the debris clearing away. Made a test phone call and voila.........my earpiece volume is loud once again! Easy fix. Almost too easy
I hope this helps.
did you ever resolved the problem?
Hi guys love the forum finally joined !
So i recently bought ebay Lumia 900 they are going for cheap =) loving it!
In my case the speaker was working great actually the first week it was way too loud kept it under 7/10 all of a sudden now
i cant hear almost anything below 8/10 and when i go all the way to 10/10 it sounds muffled like a blown speaker already tried cleaning the grill
very carefully it had dust but that didn't help and also erased averything from the about settings
.
Anymore suggestions? Im in the latest update and obviously no warranty .
Thanks :cyclops:
Hi
Are there any updates on this problem, because I am also experiencing this and I think it happened after I did an update with Zune .
Thanks

Bad Interferences while call

Hello,
from time to time, persons i'm calling tell me, that they hear really bad interence sounds. They sound like when you bring your phone near to loudspeakers. I can't hear this problems, the call is absolut clear on my side.
When I'm in the car and the phone changes to GSM/Edge, i can hear it over the car-speakers. So i think the problem depends on the GSM-Network.
Is there someone with the same problems? Did someone solved it? Does HTC know this issues?
Thanks for response,
Bond
Some here...
Same with my phone, really loud inteferences on the other side, sometimes louder than my voice. Depends also, how the phone is located in the room. While walking, the noise appears / disappears. Does this have something to do with the three build-in mics to improve the voice quality?
Android: 5.1
Firmware: 2.10.206.2
Im still dealing with this problem. And i couldn't find the absolutly right solution for it.
I bought my phone at amazon.de so i contacted them. They sent it to regenersis to repair it. Regenersis changed the following parts:
36H01982-00M - zam. 36H01936-04M; Speaker, AAC ELECTRONICS, DMSP0815D-J-01-FB
72H09061-00M - EMI Gasket, LCM FPC gasket combine absorber
74H02837-00M - zam. 74H02837-01M, Cover Pre-Assy, Plastic, CIR, Generic Color, Generic Process
The Process needed about one week incl. transfer with DHL and UPS. But after all for nothing. The problem was still there. During this week a read that sometimes this problem is produced from the SIMcard. To check this out you should "cross-change" your simcard with another one maybe from your friend. I didn't done this i just called my provider and he sent me a new card.
The problem is still there in my phone.
Another problem is, i would have to pay for a new nanoSIM. So my old SIM and the new free change SIM are a microSIM i had to cut.
I've contacted Amazon again, i will get a new device on monday. If the problem is still there on the new device i bite the bullet and pay for a native nanoSIM. And after that i have no plan.
If you can read german language... They deal with the same problem on the One M9. I've also wrote down my story there http://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/stoergeraeusche-beim-telefonieren.697510/page-2
Good Luck
After reading the thread on android-hilfe I would say chances are high that cutting your microSIM is the problem. If I were you I would try to use a "real" nanoSIM. I never experienced such problems and I'm using a "real" nanoSIM since I bought the M9.
Sorry, but using the wrong SIM causing interferences is completely nonsense. Looks more like HTC has some shielding problems with the M9.
@blackswan, i would aggree with you. There are no technical connections i could imagine. But i've read about from different sides, not just from people in forums who are oracleing about.
From my part i've got the new device from amazon. It seems the problem has been solved. The "old" One M9 was from Taiwan, the new one is from Hsinchu. Unfortunately the display of the new one is with a hint of green. I hope i can get used to it during the time. Everything else works well.
After two weeks of absence, I received my HTC back from service. What should I say? They change the speaker of my phone!!! Needless to say that the interferences still remain.
Sent again with 4 picture to explain the problem. Hopefully someone there will understand. If this try fails again, I will reverse the purchase!
I have had the same problem intermittently when connected to bluetooth in the car. Really bad feedback on the other end that i cant hear at all.
My carrier is o2uk and it happens on any band.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
