sometime NO GSM and sometime will detect a radio rom. - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

why my dopod 838pro sometime it cannot detect a radio rom and show a NO GSM, but if detect it a radio rom and it will hang about and half hours and reset will turn back to NO GSM, is hardware or software prob, anyone can give me a solution?

Provide more information - OS version and Radio version. Its probably a hardware problem but you may try to reflash to a manufacturer's shipped version and retest.
I had the same problem basically. Phone would freeze up, get repeated NO GSM messages, drop the radio even when it finds it after several minutes of use. I did buy the phone off eBay used and it did freezeup in WM5 ALOT.
I took the phone apart and cleaned all the contacts - same problems. Reflashed manufacturer's rom again and it took. Before it sometimes would hang up - looking for GSM radio. Took it apart again FULLY and put everything back together. It is now working for the past week. No freezeups or drops. Seems to always find GSM on bootup.

last time using a official rom wm6 also freeze up, then flash it to manila2d rom, it also got a same prob, try reflash a radio rom, but always get stuck at 6%, but try and try then 100% done, but also same prob.
so ur solution is try Reflashed manufacturer's rom again?

Thats what I did but the flash alone didn't fix the problem. I don't think a rom flash will bring your phone back but you may get lucky. I had to open it up and clean and reposition things. For some reason it worked. I still get screen fade to white and the directional pad on the front sometimes doesn't work - you move the scroll wheel and it will work again. Might have to replace the dPad circuit board or flex cable. The HERMES seems to have MAJOR problems with quality control and the radios. I personally think the battery presses against a backing plate which rests directly against the chipsets. The silver plate behind the battery does flex and it shouldn't. It probably should be a little thicker to prevent flexing. The heat from charging and the pressure from the battery I think causes the radios to fail. Bad soldering also may be a problem but any pressure on a motherboard and chipsets isn't a good thing. Also screws that are too tight also may contribute to the problem.
My phone has been working for about a week. Prior to that it was getting constant NO GSM errors on bootup and dropped calls. Today the phone was out of the house for the first time in weeks and it worked without any problems - no freezes (did a lot before) and no dropped radio. It has been sitting on my desk for two weeks without any problem. Will try it a few more days and see.

herm200 no GSM
Hi! I have read all thread about no GSM from here.
I have already do many many tests, tried to flash any radio rom extracted, hard reset, mtty with set 1e 1... I have already dissasemble and reassemble it
but no one fix the problem No GSM.
I have the same probleme, sometime no gsm and sometime ok.
So please, if anyone find everything which can fix this problem please post it!
Sorry for my english!
Thanks a lot for all jobs and helps.

Hello all, my hermes had this problem too!
Sometime it works, " 1.56.70.11" and sometime no! "NO GSM"
i have done about twenty flash thinking it will resolve this problem...
After reading a topic on this problem, i have understand it was an hardware problem. Something unsolde.
I have buy "double face scotch", i have disasemble the phone completely.
And on every chip and on the "battery"( little round and flat) i have put a little piece of scotch. it will do a pression on every chip to keep chip connected on the motherboard.
From this moment, the phone has never freeze, no more "no gsm" message!
ALL IS GOOD
Sorry for my poor english.

Many things can affect the radio
Try this...
Un plug your batt... insert a big piece of aluminium under the batt over the gsm chip... it wil not work properly... Magnetic issues... the batt do this things too i prove it on a Nokia... the batt without the stick = radio problem no signal...
Abd here i got the same trouble no gsm sometimes i realized that has been a lot flashes but noup, was a dialer that makes this issues 3G phone canvas,.... back to touch dialer 3G or 2G and its good now... think the CPROG and some other is not so compatible.

Desperately please help me, my Dopod 838 Pro has No GSM!

hey dude try another rom... the roms with HTC phonecanvas 2g or 3g do this issues on my hermes dunno why... thats th reason i dont cook anymore phoncanvas on my roms.

Update Radio ROM to 1.47
I had same problem just recently, and the recommendation that I got was update your Radio ROM ONLY...I upgrade to Radio 1.47 as all the time I was loosing service connection as well as No GSM...after this, my Hermes took live again.
I had 1.16 Radio...!!! and that issue came up after upgrading to one of the so many cooked ROM...I don't remember which one...
Check this link for more info, it saved my life!!!

Returned MDA Pro for Repairs

Hi,
Today I returned to the T-mobile shop. I deliverd my dutch MDA Pro for Repairs.
I have the following complains:
- Battery dies at 54%. Very anoying.
- Calls are not clear, sometimes I cant understand anything someone say. I have a bad reception.
- Device is slow. You all know it.
Befor I returned my device, I took out my SIMcard, Memorycard and Stylus. I flash the latest dutch t-mobile rom (1.30.233) to my device and gave it a hard-reset.
The woman at the story told me I should receive a call in 10 workingdays to pick up my device. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Sharky,
IMHO Your Uni is ok. Battery issue was described many times over the forum and its connected to wornout battery. (In Your case Youll should get new battery after a repair so its good point)
Bad reception is propably because old radio rom - have You tried to upgrade it?
Slowness is a personal matter - mine is sometimes slow also but it depends on soo many elements thats its hard to define what precisely is slow.
Anyway how will You survive whitout Your Uni - its a question ;-)
best ,
Piotr

I know I can't. I just hope nothing goes wrong with my device, at least before any of the clamshell PDAs start to roll out. I would hate to buy another Universal, just to see a new version the next month.
BTW wats ur result after the upgrade did it solved ne of the problem .

random crashes

my htc p3300 started to give me random crashes, hanging spontaniously without any reproducable scenario.
Sometimes it happens when the device is in power-saving mode, sometimes during connection to PC while being charged, once it gave me during the phone conversation.
The About shows:
CE OS 5.2.1238 (build 17745.0.2.3)
I can't remember which ROM it was exactly, but I downloaded it from these boards. I hate using original French versions hence I started to look for English one. Oh, and when phone boots it gives T-Mobile boot screen.
Anyways, I did a hardware reset, and it was running without a single crash for a whole day. Till this moment. It crashed again, software reset didn't work, had to do it hard way.
I contacted the vendor, and they are OK to send it for repairs, but it's gonna take around 3 weeks, plus I am not sure that they will be able to reproduce the problem, and what I am also not sure in, is that they may simply reflash the ROM with standard French version and be done with it.
So I am trying to get some help and opinions while downloading Mesche's vanilla v2 ROM to give it a final try.
Any ideas and comments are welcome
d3sp
no ideas, anyone?
I flashed with vanilla custom rom, and I only got 1-2 crashes so far..
Also when it crashes, sometimes the screen goes gray or dirty white-ish
and I can see vertical stripes on it..
I have exactly the same problem. I think the problem has to-do with cpu temprature. When its a hot day, I get it all the time. I think I am going to open it up, and check if the problem is with dirt inside.
sounds like a over heating problem, the screen usually goes dodgy if it gets too hot (same with most LCD screen products).
Do u have a program to show the temperature? (i use BatteryStatus, so get the temp from there).
thats really strange, i doubt it's a temperature that makes him sick
for example, it went dead last night, it was not hot inside my house, but the phone still went dead, so I had to hard reset it
I am facing the three weeks of horror without my artemis (( since I am out of ideas and going to send it to repair to manufacturer

Seriously.
It may be some software you have running on it. What all to you have? And, are you running the original ROM or a cooked ROM? You may have to warranty it if everything is stock.

Well, i just reinstalled fresh new vanilla something ROM that I took on these very boards.
The original ROM is in French, so that's not an option for me.
And yeh, my artemis is still in warranty, so I'm going to exercise that option, I'm afraid

Show of hands; How many have a fried radio stack?

So I've been trying to revive my 838pro for a few weeks now, It's got the NO GSM, boots to OS fine issue which seems to plague many people.
I'm just wondering how many of you out there have the same or similar (GSM/Radio ceased functioning) problem, I know it's lots but I've made a poll here so we can tabulate some figures. Surely if it's a large enough problem we can do something about it legally? Or at least get some assistance/guidance from HTC?
I know alot of people have been spending alot of their spare time on this and I'm not trying to belittle or disregard your threads by starting a new one, but this is really the thread for people who have tried EVERYTHING! (I even dissassembled the unit, desoldered the backup battery and soaked it in some soapy water for awhile!)
So, if you've tried all the radio upgrades/downgrades, hardware/software/voodoo tricks and still come up with zilch, vote yes.
Oops sorry, I'm more tired than ever at the moment, could a mod move this into 'Upgrading' ?
you should add "how many have bricked a hermes radio". i've had mine warranty replaced twice in 12 months.
I bought a phone with a trashed radio rom but with hundreds of flashes to my current phone haven't had a problem yet.. all I can say is these three things: charged battery, stable computer, and don't touch the damn phone or cable while its flashing!

This doesn't explain why so many people are experiencing call drop-outs and other GSM failures that continue to get worse until it just dies and won't be revived, even people who've never upgraded the ROM.
Count me in.
Surely we can at least narrow down the faulty component?

ENOUGH SAID u can be a flashaholic make sure u take the olipro steps and flash away dont f*ck with that usb cable
Better yet, put down the USB cable, step away from activestink and grab your SD card.
Were you flashing your phone at the point when your radio went out defroster?
nope, gradual radio death, once it was approaching unusable i tried flashing and the radio area just won't flash, even if it's in the fridge upside-down and coated in sacrificial lamb's blood.
my radio is dying
i can still flash my phone but the radio gets disconnected specially when i'm trying to make a call. if i'm out of the coverage area for too long, my phone won't reconnect to the network when all the other phones reconnected without problems! and i get a very low signal too. 709sc gets 3 bars while my phone get 1 or 2 bars only T_T Lately, it won't connect to the softbank network even if i turn on/off the radio.
did any experienced this? maybe i should just brick this damn phone and ask for a replacement? i tried to get it repaired but since its already sim unlocked, HTC refuses to repair it.
ok I give up, i've put the piece of crap on eBay! with a detailed desription of course.

Help me bring my hermes back

Hi guys, i bought my hermes (o2 trion) in 2007. It came with windows mobile 5. In march 2008, i decided to upgrade to windows mobile 6. After some time, i noticed it draining battery within a few hours and the device started emitting more heat than usual. Initially, i thought that there was a problem with the device and bought it to the local htc retailer. The guy there told me that the was a problem with the board and it needed to be replaced. I found it weird coz a few days earlier, it was working fine. As the board was a bit too expensive, i decided not to get it replaced. My hermes had been sitting in a drawer since. Today, i came across this article on the xda wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms It mentioned this:
"Problems with the device emitting more heat than usual, shorter battery life, long drop out periods where the device looks for a network or other "odd" intermittent radio issues can be a warning that something may not be right."
I continued getting signal but the device started heating and draining battery faster. Today, i thought that it may be a problem with the radio software. How to i flash a new radio?
My device has the following software on it
Rom: schap's 4.31
Date: 10/03/07
Radio version: 1.48.00.10
Would flashing a windows 6.5 version solve the problem? Thanks for your inputs gys.
ok, i upgraded to joshkoss's light 6.5 rom but the radio didnt get updated. Can somebody direct me to a rom which contains it's own radio? thanks.
you've got a pm from me
i flashed the latest radio. seems that something is wrong with the device itself. it still heats up and battery end fast when i activate my phone function.

try taking it apart and cleaning out all the dust?
I had this problem, i opened and i noticed that the camera wasn't in the right position. Now it works perfectly
Camera not in right position ? Care to explain further?
If you open it you'll notice that the camera is linked to the rest of the phone with a very small connection and can move from its place (sorry for my english). I don't know why but it moved from the right position and so some electric contact didn't work very well, causing fast battery drain and warming the phone. I just put it in the right position
Battery life and WM 6.0
Have had similar issuses with mine but now seem all OK, flashed with Hardspl to permanently unlock the ROM, and make bootloader freely accessiable to all other flash programs, and then downloaded and flashed with Dark Visions ROM and now battery lasts all day instead of 60 minutes.
I has become so frustrated with the 60 minute battery life i had purchased a new battery only to discover it was the ROM and not the Battery.
Apparently the battery monitor software in WM 6.0 drains the battery real fast
I am still searching for a ROM that lets me connect to Telsra in Australia and can open email attachements, but I am real close to what I want out of my JasJam

Barley will get singal

The other night my phone randomly shut off and would not turn on for like 8 hours. When it did, it got SUPER hot in the back where it would just about scald your hand. It shut off again and i got it back on in a few minutes.
But my problem is ever since then I have not got good signal at all where I use to get full signal. I dont't think it's ever connected to 3G either. And i can't get enough signal to place out calls.
My wife has the same phone and since i have flashed it, ive never got as good signal as here. Which im guessing the problem is my radio is a lot older version then her's. I just dont know how to succesfully update the radio.
But my main issue is that i have little or no signal in places i got good signal until this happened. Is it possible that this ruined my anteanna or something?
Carrier: Bluegrass Cellular
Current ROM: MIUI-110070 (also tried cynageonmod and the original sense UI)
Baseband version( assuming that means radio) 2.05.10.08.11 (wife's radio version is like 5... or 7... something)
something i just noticed.. Network says US Cellular, but i have bluegrass. But im just assuming that has something to do with me running MIUI instead.
Needing help!

That's the main issue here and that's what we should focus on.
The Desire overheating issue is a known one and it's mostly related to a faulty mainboard. It's patched by underclocking/undervolting or completely fixed by replacing the mainboard. My best guess is that when you installed MIUI, thus replacing the stock kernel with one that can overclock the CPU, the CPU got somehow overclocked/overvolted and that caused the overheating thus damaging the mainboard. As i said, it's a guess; the mainboard could have easily failed by itself, as no tech is fault-proof.
Try replacing the ROM with a stock one and see what happens. If the problem persists, you could try flashing a newer radio (there are lots of guides here on how to do that), but mind you, it's not a recommended procedure for a damaged phone, as if the phone shuts down and the radio flash fails, you'll end up with a permanent brick.
There is a hardware fix you could try, but that involves taking the phone apart. It's not a very invasive procedure, as you need only undo a couple of screws and dismantle some plastic parts. Do a search for "antenna contacts fix" in the Desire section.
